Finding Time to Write

It is.. December 9 for me, guys, and do you know what that means? No, you probably don't, but here's what's going on. It is the week before finals. I have homework to do that I.. well, have yet to start and projects and tests (three) tomorrow, so, hi!

I'm guessing that some of you are going through this as well. Yeah, we're not doing ourselves any favors being on fanfiction right now.

So this brings me to my next wonderful topic, which is finding time to write. A lot of people struggle to write - not because they don't have motivation (like my last chapter) but because we just don't have time.

There's school, work if you're in it, home stuff, personal other stuff.. Come on.

So here are some tips and tricks to make sure you're writing.. something. By the way, this is going to be a rather short chapter - as I said before, I'm procrastinating on homework that really needs to be finished.

TIPS AND TRICKS ON FINDING THE TIME TO WRITE:

1. Productive procrastination.

This is something I do all the time. I know you don't want to outline that essay you have to write tomorrow on the role a citizen plays in a democratic society.. see, I don't want to, either.

So instead of doing something unproductive, like sitting on your couch and watching that new episode of.. whatever with a bag of chips, write. You might as well, if you're not going to do your homework.

This can also be during your self-designated break time. (Tip: Take breaks when you're doing work so your brain doesn't explode.) Sometimes, writing is a great outlet for whatever you want to write about.

Hey.

2. On the go.

Carry something with you - all the time. This applies to everything, whether you write in a notebook or on a tablet or on your phone. Have something you can easily pull out and jot down things in.

Those fifteen minutes on the bus? Write a scene. Time in class when the teacher's explaining something you already understand? Put the ideas on the paper. Any time you have a minute or two to spare, write something.

Do it on the go. That's all I got.

3. Set aside time.

I am not a heavily scheduled person. I do not plan out what I'm doing every day. I don't use time sheets or whatever.

I do have a general idea of how I'm going to spend my time. I'll tell myself that I can take a break after I finish my last math problem. I set a curfew sometimes. So usually, there's enough time that I can allow myself a small window every now and then to write some words.

It works. Or maybe you can write before bedtime instead of reading. I dunno.

4. Plan ahead.

If you don't have time to write, you can at least think about it a little. What are you going to do next? New character, some death, a car drive, falling cats. Then, when you do have the time, write some stuff.

5. Slow it down.

Hey, you. Stop writing, and go do something else that takes no effort. Sometimes, we can't just write all the time. You deserve that.

6. Get off of the Internet.

Get off. What are you doing? You know those things that just hook you in for hours and hours? Those things that completely destroy any willpower you have? (Tumblr.)

Get off it, you lazy writer, and go write some words.

7. Can you tell I'm out of things to say?

That's going to be all for today, unfortunately. If you guys have any suggestions on how to find time to write, tell me. I could use it, too!

Thanks for everything, um, and don't forget to tell me what you thought. Uh, yeah. I got nothing.

Writing tip of the day: You should write a lot. I talked about this before, but even if you're not working on an important piece, you should at least write something. Keep the creative juices flowing, relax a little... If you don't write, that just.. that's just bad.

Yeah, I'm sorry if this chapter sucks. I don't have much time to write this, either. Bye! (Ooh, this is almost 800 words. That's kind of pathetic.)
