Chapter 11: More than just friends
"You were late because you got knocked out from a fall?" Valeria said not believing it.
"And concussed as I said, I woke up hours later with only minutes to get there and I was too late and for that I am so sorry." Jack said apologising to her for the let down.
She knew he was sorry and it made sense why he was late.
"So what about this thief, did she get away?" Valeria asked.
"Actually your not going to believe this but the thief was Emily and she found out who I was and well can't into much detail but she was forced into it and we helped solve her problem and now I probably won't see her again." Jack explained.
She was shocked it was Emily. "I knew there wasn't something right about her." Valeria said.
"Wait, you had suspicions about her?" Jack asked.
"After we met briefly I felt something wasn't right about her so I l-" realising she was saying too much he was chuckling.
"Val…were you jealous?" Jack asked in a childish voice.
She began to turn red and not make eye contact with him.
"No! I am not jealous! I just didn't want that girl hurting you." Valeria said as he chuckled again.
"Well thanks for caring for me but it's not my first heartbreak." Jack said. "So I take it your not mad at me anymore?" he asked.
"I was but the circumstances have been explained…I understand now and also, I forgive you." Valeria said forgiving him.
"Since you forgive me does this mean we have to give a speech on our theory on Friday?" Jack asked.
"Yes and it will be a follow up of our last one and at your University once more." Valeria explained.
"So it's an encore then? Ok this time I'll be there and this time I won't get KO'd." Jack said as she shook her head at his humor.

It was now Friday and both Jack and Valeria were giving the lecture on their theory and Jack decided to wear a suit to this as he was making the effort for his friend.
"Are there any questions?" Valeria asked the audience.
As some hands were raised. "And no more requests for Mr. Redgrave's number please ladies and gentlemen!" Valeria said as a lot of hands dropped and only one was up.
"I would like to ask that is Mr. Redgrave the one who found the missing link?" a random guy asked.
She looked to Jack. "Yes without him I was not able to find the link, he is a prime example of why it's never a bad thing to ask for help." she said as people took that advice to heart and began giving them an ovation for the lecture and not only that Jack received a few numbers from the ladies in the crowd.
"Did you have to take their numbers?" Valeria asked as he was handling some personal cards he'd gotten.
"Well they asked, I answered and I received so pretty much yes." Jack said as she just sighed at him.
As then a certain sound went off in his pocket as he pulled out a card.
"Avengers Assemble"
"Well the ladies will have to wait, duty calls." Jack said as he was being called to action by his team mates as he left.
"Jack!" Valeria called out as he stopped and turned to her. "Be careful." she said as he smiled and saluted her as he headed off into battle.

The Avengers had just done battle with The Brotherhood of Mutants and The Revengers but alongside the X-Men they stopped them from trying to destroy New York.
"And once again this goes to show that good always wins…because evil is dumb." Eclipse said getting a few looks from that statement.
"Guess we let SHIELD handle this and haul them away to prison." Wolverine said.
"Yeah thanks for the help." American Dream thanked the X-Men for their help.
"Hey E-Man just out of asking how in the hell are you dating a frigid prude like Valeria Richards?" that question shot to him came from Bluestreak.
"Ok man now first off we are just friends and work colleagues and second don't call her that ok she's a good person once you get to know her." Eclipse said defending her.
"I knew it." DarkDevil said cutting in. "You like her." he said.
"No I don't!" Eclipse said.
"Uh huh!" Bluestrak said.
"Nuh uh!" Eclipse said.
This back and fourth between both heroes was getting childish and their fearless leader had to step in.
"Alright kids break it up, it's getting embarrassing now." Dream said stopping them.
"He started it." Eclipse said pointing to Bluestreak.
"Well you asked for it." Bluestreak came back at him.
"Guys stop it now or so help me god I will smack you with my shield!" Dream said having enough of their dispute as they held their hands up in defeat.
Riley then approached Jack. "Since when did you go all Galahad for your "friend" ?" he asked.
"I don't know why I did I mean I stuck up for her yeah you do that for friends but when he started calling her those things I got a bit mad." Jack said trying to make sense of it.
"Well maybe it's because you actually like her?" Riley said as Jack scoffed at that.
"What?! No…no…I'm not…I mean…well…uh…what?" Jack stuttered trying to come back with a response but wasn't able to make one.
"It's a bit obvious why she was so upset you didn't make it to your first lecture with her? How about when you started dating Emily?" Riley pointed out to him.
Jack hearing that Valeria Richards the daughter of Reed and Susan Richards, members of the Fantastic Five and the only fourteen year old to receive her doctrine in history was infatuated with him Jack Redgrave, a guy who got his head zapped by an alien artefact, became a genius and hero and is an all round idiot.
"Wait…when I started to date Emily was she about to admit to me what I think she was about to admit when I went on my first date with Emily?" Jack asked.
Riley then tried to deny it but that look he had on his face said it all.
"Sir, you are a terrible liar!" Jack stated.
"This is why being a lawyer is hard." Riley said.
"Wow she actually likes me…it's a bit insane to hear." Jack said not able to comprehend it.
"Now that's rich to hear you say something is more insane than yourself." Riley said.
"I know and that's what's insane about it, but maybe I should think about this before I go into it." Jack decided.
"Well there you have it the first smart thing you've ever done." Riley said.
"Yeah I-Hey what?!" Jack said realizing what he meant.

After a one hour flight back to London courtesy of the Quinjet Jack made his way back to class on time as he was in his world history lesson as he went to ask for a pen he then realized the seat next to him was empty.
Emily…hope you and your brother are happy.
Jack was still down about Emily's departure but it was for the best he'd hope one day their paths would cross.
Class was over and he made his way out as he met up with Lilly who had also just finished her classes for the day.
"That's classes done for the week so any crimes to report?" Jack asked.
"None and not this weekend Jackson as Riley will be taking us out to a vary fine gourmet restaurant." Lilly informed him.
"Free meal!" Jack said in excitement to his favorite four letter word.
"I expect you to wear your best clothes and to be on your best behavior." Lilly made it clear.
"Yes mother." Jack joked.
They made their way out and went to the restaurant as they met with Riley who of course was dressed to impress his girlfriend as they shared a kiss.
"Good your also here let's take a seat." Riley said as they sat at their table.
"Hey we're expecting someone else?" Jack asked noticing the fourth place next to Lilly.
His question was then answered and saw who it was.
"Val?" Jack said as it was his partner and saw she looked stunning, she wore her hair up and was wearing a plain dress as he could not take his eyes off her.
"Jack?" Valeria also said surprised he was there.
Both looked to the couple. "Oh I guess I forgot I had guest of my own, silly me!" Lilly said trying to sound serious.
"Yeah stupid me for forgetting that." Riley said not even trying to hide it.
"Riley…we talked about this." Lilly said as he groaned.
"Lillian why don't we just admit we're doing the obvious and this is to speed it up." Riley admitted.
"Oh come on your not pulling this now on me?!" Lilly exclaimed.
"It's just stupid to make them dance around the obvious!" Riley said.
The couple got into an argument as both Jack and Valeria watched on in confusion and embarrassment.
Jack looked to Valeria. "You wanna go someplace…"
"Yes right away." Valeria said as they left the two to their own problems.

They had stopped off to get themselves some shwarma as they had to leave their meal and were just mainly discussing random things.
"So you agree with me?" Jack said.
"I agree that there is a slight chance the Loch Ness Monster may actually exist due to the fact it may have been frozen while in the loch itself and must've remained in a cryogenic sleep and has been roaming the loch since." Valeria said detailing why she agrees with him.
"We can agree on some things then." Jack said as then they both went silent for a couple of minutes.
"Look I need to tell you something and it has been bothering me a while now." Valeria said.
Is she actually going to say it?
Jack braced himself to hear what he thinks it was from her mouth.
"We've been working closely together a while now and I've learned a lot about you and from you and I would like to say that…I…um…" she struggled to get the words out.
Come on woman! It's not that hard it is?! Just tell him and be done with it!
"I've realized that I have fe-"
An alarm was heard and was only minutes away from their location.
"Sorry Val looks like I gotta change into something more conspicuous." Jack said as he went for his watch.
"Jack!" she called to him as he stopped to look. "Be careful." she said as he nodded and found a spot to change.

A bank was being robbed as Eclipse swung in to investigate and found that a huge hole was made in the front entrance as he entered the building he found wreckage and the security guards were down and checked on them as they were unconscious.
Hold on this seems familiar.
Looking around he saw all destruction led to the back as he cautiously walked to the back and that led him to the vault which the door was torn open as he quietly entered the vault to catch the culprit.
"Bloody ell! What kind of bank has a vault for things and not any wonga?!" a northern accent was heard.
You got to be kidding me!
Hearing the voice it was a familiar one and he took a peek behind a row of safety deposit boxes and saw the huge figure looting boxes.
"Now I'm not sure what it is I'm seeing." Eclipse said as he came out of hiding and the big guy faced him.
"You again?!" he said.
"I still don't get why you keep doing the same thing Looter?" Eclipse asked.
"This ain't about just the wonga…IT'S MY WONGA THEY TOOK!" Looter shouted.
"Well you did take your "wonga" from said people in the first place so who's fault is that?" Eclipse asked him in a taunting tone.
That statement made the big man angry. "I broke you before and I'll do it again you muppet!" Looter stated how their last encounter went.
"Not this time and I beat you once before, I'll beat you again." Eclipse stated.
"Then let's rumble you nonce." Looter said cracking his knuckles.
He came running at him but quickly jumped over his head and avoided the batter ram style attack of Looter as he crashed through the vault leaving a hole as belongings scattered everywhere and leaving him dazed from the hit.
"C'mon are ya that dumb that you can't even win a fight with a wall?" Eclipse mocked him.
He shook it off and the runaway freight train just came for him as he had to run for it and led him to the outside of the building.
"Come ere you little nonce!" Looter shouted trying to get his hands on the Dark Hero.
He started to punch wildly at him as massive fists flew at him but he dodged each shot but then got caught with a hard shot to the chest which would've broken his ribs but his suit provided a degree of protection as it only winded him.
"Gotcha!" Looter said as he grabbed him by his neck and held him up in the air choking him. "Last time I broke yer back, this time I'm gonna break your neck!" he said squeezing harder.
But from out of nowhere a huge slab of concrete hit the big man in the face as he released his hold of the Dark Hero.
"Who the bloody ell?!" Looter said as he saw it was a young blonde girl.
"Stop it right now!" she shouted as Eclipse recognized the voice and saw it was Valeria.
"You little tart." Looter said as he marched towards her.
Eclipse just willed himself up and he quickly jumped onto his back and tried to stop him as he was trying to grab him he was trying to stop him from getting his hands on her and knew he had to fight dirty and fell down to the ground and went in between the legs of the big man and he just went down low.
"OH! MY TWIG AN BERRIES!" Looter shouted in a high pitched voice as he fell to his knees.
Knowing he had him down Eclipse capitalized on it and faced him. "That's two to one." he said and delivered a huge roundhouse kick as that knocked him out, he quickly tied up the big man and grabbed Valeria and swung off with her away from the police as they took him away.

On a distant rooftop Jack and Valeria overlooked the city.
"Valeria what were you thinking?!" Jack said as he had some anger in his tone of voice.
"Jack…he almost killed you, I only went there to make sure you were ok and-"
"HE COULD'VE KILLED YOU!" Jack shouted and she knew he was right.
"I know but…I…" Valeria couldn't get the words out as he approached her.
"Val." he held her by her cheek. "I wouldn't forgive myself if anything happened to you and tonight pr-"
He was cut off as now she was kissing him as for a full minute she went on and stopped as he just looked shocked.
"Oh…that's why." Jack just blurted out.
Will they? Won't they? Are they more than that?
