Wade watched on as they started the c-section. He couldn't see past the wall of doctors but he could hear a little of what they were saying once in a while. Lucas started to make some noises he didn't recognize and before he could respond a nurse scooped him up from the bassinet. Wade didn't even realize she was in there.

"Is he ok?"

"Yes he's fine. Are you guys bottle feeding?"

"Huh?" he quickly looked at her "Oh, yeah." He nodded and turned back to the window. "Does he need to eat?" he asked without looking away

"Yes but I can feed him if you want? Oh and one of the nurses went down to fill your family in."

Wade nodded but he was torn, he didn't know what he should do. He wanted to feed Lucas but he couldn't take his eyes off the commotion in the next room. All of the sudden he saw a nurse carry a tiny baby to the table. A smile started to spread across his face but it stopped when he realized she wasn't crying.

"What's wrong with her?" he asked

The nurse walked over with Lucas "I don't know but she's really tiny. Would you like me to see if I can get any information?"

"Can you?"

"I can try. Why don't you take a seat with him and feed him." She said handing Lucas back to Wade.

He just nodded and sat down in the chair that appeared behind him. The nurse left and he looked down at Lucas. "Oh Buddy, this doesn't look good. Your Mama and your sister have to be ok. I can't do this on my own." Lucas just looked up at him as he ate. "You are cute." Wade smiled at him

"Wade" The nurse said walking in "The baby is having trouble breathing, her lungs haven't fully developed. She is going right to the NICU. She is really tiny, 4 pounds 2 ounces and she is having trouble regulating her body temperature. This is very common in twins and premature babies, 2 times already today. She should be just fine."

"Thank you, what about Zoe?"

"Zoe is doing great, they got her stable but not awake yet. How's he doing?"

"He's good, I think he finished this." He held up the bottle and shook it

"Very good, I'll take him." Wade handed over the baby "The doctor will come to get you in a minute."

The nurse was right and after a minute Dr. Green came in the room.

"Hi Wade, how are you?" she asked

"Freaking out, what's going on?"

"Zoe is fine and stable. She's pretty out of it right now with the medications so I suggest you go see your baby girl first."

"How is she?"

"Her lungs aren't fully developed and she's really tiny so we will have to keep her here for a while. How is Luke?" she asked

"He's good" Wade smiled "Already ate and everything."

"That's good. Nurse Hailey will take him to the nursery, you can follow me to the NICU."

Wade nodded and followed her out of the room. When he walked into the NICU he was shocked at how many babies were actually in there. She led him to the back corner where an incubator with his last name taped on it stood. He looked in and saw a tiny baby with an even tinier hat laying there with wires everywhere.

"She is so tiny." He said

"Yes she is, you can reach in and touch her." She told him

Wade carefully stuck his hand in and gently placed one on her stomach. "Hey baby girl." He whispered and stuck his other hand in and rested it on her head, her hat moved back. "You got a lot of hair under there. Your brother hardly has any. Your Mama is gonna put all those bows she bought in there now. She'll be thrilled."

"Mr. Kinsella?" a nurse came over to him "I'm Isabel, I have been assigned to your daughter. She's doing very well."

Wade smiled "Thank you."

"Does she have a name?" she asked

"Umm." He thought for a moment "Mackenzie." He smiled "Mackenzie Jacqueline." He told her

"I love that name. I heard she has a brother."

Wade smiled "Yeah, Lucas. He's almost twice her size."

Isabel smiled "She'll catch up. If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask me any time."

"I will, thank you."

"You'll need this." She said holding up another hospital band that matched the one he already had on. She wrapped it around his wrist. "There ya go."

Wade sat there and just stared at the tiny baby in front of him, he was exhausted. After being up since 2 and only sleeping for 3 hours before then, plus all the stress that he just went through he felt like he could fall asleep right then and there. As soon as he closed his eyes he heard someone say something.

"If you're allowed to take her out, skin on skin works wonders with bonding."

Wade looked up and saw a woman across from him with a baby on her chest. "Really?" he asked

"Yes" she smiled "I'm Jenn and this is Chase."

Wade smiled back "Wade and Mackenzie."

"It's nice to meet you. I was here when they wheeled her in. She's a cutie."

"Thank you

"Mr. Kinsella?" a nurse walked over

"Yeah?"

"If you want you can take her out."

"I can?"

"Yes of course. We encourage it actually. "

"Ok, how?"

The nurse smiled and showed him how to open the isolette. She carefully picked up the tiny baby and put her in Wade's arms.

"She's so small." He said sitting in the chair

"She's a munchkin." The nurse smiled "Kangaroo care or skin to skin contact is the best."

"How?" he asked

She chuckled "Just unbutton a couple buttons and hold her against your chest."

Wade did what she said. "She's ok like this?"

"Oh yes, she's better like that than any other way you can hold her."

Wade nodded and she walked away.

"Little girl, you are too tiny. I know your Mama is but this is a little extreme." He whispered, gently stroking the babies back with his thumb.

"Wow"

Wade looked up and saw Jesse in front of him. "Hey Jess."

"Hey. She's so tiny but gorgeous."

"Yeah she is. Where is everyone?" Wade asked

"I was sent here, Dad, Lavon and AB are with Zoe. We haven't seen the little guy though."

"He's at the nursery, I'll get him on my way back if they haven't brought him already."

"Zoe's dying to see him and you."

"I bet she is. I hate to leave her." He looked down at the sleeping baby on his chest.

"She'll be here later, take a few pictures for Zoe. She'll kill you if you don't."

"Good idea. You want to take some, I hate to move her."

Jesse snapped a few pictures and then Wade gently placed her back in the isolette.

"Alright Mack, I'll be back later ok." He told her

Jesse stuck his hand through and rubbed the babies arm "See ya later little one."

Wade and Jesse left the room and Wade walked to the nursery. He peaked through the window and saw Lucas in there. A nurse was leaving the room.

"Hey, how do I get my son?" he asked

She smiled "Which one is yours?"

"Lucas Kinsella."

"Aww, he's a sweetie. Can I just check your bracelet? Wade showed her his wrist and she read the tag. Ok, you can take him."

"Thanks." He smiled. They walked down the hall and into Zoe's room. Wade smiled when she looked at the door. "Hey Baby."

Zoe smiled "Hi, Lucas?" she asked looking at the bassinet

"Yep." He turned to Lavon, AB and Earl. "Hey guys" He went over and kissed Zoe. "How are you feeling?"

"Sore, very sore but I want to hold him."

Wade gently placed Luke in her arms. "Hi little man." She smiled down at him

Wade chuckled "He's not so little compared to his sister."

"Is she ok? Where is she?"

"She's in the NICU, she's doing great." He pulled out his phone and pulled up the pictures of Mackenzie. "There she is."

"She's so tiny but she's so cute." Zoe said "You got to hold her?"

"Yeah they suggested Kangaroo something."

"Kangaroo Care, it's supposed to work wonders."

"She seemed to like it."

"I want to see her."

"Tomorrow. They asked for her name so I named her." He told her

"Named her what?" she asked very concerned

"Mackenzie." He told her

Zoe smiled "I thought you weren't sure about it."

"Yeah but you loved it so that's her name."

"I really do love it."

"They have such great names." Annabeth gushed peeking at Lucas in Zoe's arms

"You want your turn Aunt AB?"

"When you're ready." She smiled

"Oh take him, you've been dying to hold him just as much as I was."

AB took the baby and smiled "I love him. I can't wait to meet his sister."

"She can't wait to meet you guys." Wade smiled

"So Son, how does it feel to be a Dad?"

"It feels good now. It was horrible a couple hours ago. My girls were trouble."

Zoe smiled "But we are both fine now."

"You are, she's not."

"She will be just fine Wade. I have seen this many times. She'll be as big as that little guy in no time."

"I hope so."

"Gimmie the little linebacker." Lavon said reaching for Lucas

"Fiiine" Annabeth giggled handing over Luke.

"Hey kid, I'm Unlce Lavon and I'm gonna teach you all about football. We're gonna have a lot of fun."

Zoe smiled watching Lavon, Annabeth, Jesse and Earl play with her son. She leaned her head on Wade and took his hand in hers. "I love you and our family."

Wade kissed her head "I love us too."
