Aurora soon found herself sitting in a chair in the police station while Elisa was busy talking to some of the others in the department. Elisa's partner, Matt Bluestone, was stuck watching the girl and had given her a pencil and a notebook after she admitted to being an artist. She was drawing the scariest thing she had in mind, her gargoyle self.
"Say, that's pretty… realistic… um… I suppose you know about the gargoyles around here?" Matt asked. The gargoyles were pretty famous now, since they had finally been accepted as citizens of America, and as actual beings.
Aurora nodded. She had managed to sketch her full form out along with her coat and hat. She intended to see if Bluestone would actually notice what she was doing. "This is Diana Dusk… you could say… she's a friend…" Her soft spoken voice seemed full of edge as she added shading and started on making a background.
"Oh… So, how'd you meet her?"
"How else do you meet a gargoyle? Wait till sunset, and you'll know." She was very diligent on her shades and form it seemed.
"Have you been drawing long?"
"Only since I could hold a piece of wood. I honestly don't know my real age, so I can't give you any answer other than that." She took off her hat and placed it on the small end table next to her chair, revealing her blonde hair and pale skin among the dark clothing.
"Oh?"
Aurora nodded. She looked up to the window. "I need to get up somewhere high where no one will see me. The sun is setting…" She muttered before remembering that she had cast a spell so that only friends of the gargoyles would know that she could transform.
"Why, afraid that you'll turn into a monster?"
"That depends on your definition of what a monster is…" She placed the finished artwork on the table in between them so that she could at least give Bluestone a preview. "Do you think Diana is a monster?"
"No, not unless she hates humans beyond all reasoning. I know a few gargoyles that actually live around here and are pretty nice. Gargoyles are pretty common around here now a days, or at least Goliath's clan is. I suppose Lisa told you about them?" He asked as he looked over the detailed piece of art. It looked almost lifelike.
"No, I ran into them… They're pretty nice. Diana is usually a lonely gargoyle. She protected the humans of her home town as best as she could, but it never made a difference. I'm hoping we make more of a difference here though." She gave off a soft smile.
Bluestone smiled back. "Somehow, I think you will."
"Thanks." Aurora then looked out the window. "I really should get going, Brooklyn and the others might get worried."
Elisa looked outside and noticed the sun setting as well. "Come on you two, let's get going then."
The three made their way to the Xanatos tower with the old Castle Wyvern on top. They made it just as the sun was setting completely behind the horizon and the gargoyles sprang to life. Aurora however had hidden behind wall as her transformation happened.
"Ah, Bluestone, it's been a while." Goliath smiled as he greeted Elisa's partner.
"Yeah, it has, hasn't it?" Bluestone then looked around for Aurora, after noticing she was missing. "Hey, where'd Aurora go?"
"Aurora?"
"Yeah, she was just here."
"Um…" The gargoyles and humans turned to a small voice that belonged to the young girl in question. Bluestone's eyes widened as he recognized the gargoyle from Aurora's picture. "I'm afraid she won't be back until sunrise… I'm… Diana Dusk…"
"What the…?"
Goliath bit his lower lip while trying to figure out how to explain the situation to their friend. Diana on the other hand just sighed at the confused human and explained her situation. While all this was going on, Diana felt a cold shudder up her spine and turned quickly to see another gargoyle disappear into the shadows of the roof. She shook her head and continued explaining her situation to Bluestone. 'It looked like Angela, but… I could have sworn that the colors were wrong… are there more gargoyles here? Is… is Angela's mother here too?'
A tall, lean, and well-muscled, gargoyle female glided to the nearby buildings and shook off her shock. She knew magic and knew that this young one was filled with it… but the problem with her was that the young lady was filled with a strange type of magic that seemed to confuse her. It was full of… spirit, yes, but… also a sense of… companionship and love… as though allowing her to be a part of anyone's life, even a small part, would be some sort of blessing… whatever it was, she wanted to know, after all, she was the resident sorceress even if she wasn't welcomed as a gargoyle anymore…
