Chapter 10

He is no ordinary L'Cie...

The sun was starting to set over Vile Peak, Erin sat on the dusty floor, her back resting on a large rock, a rifle in her hands. She tapped her boot against the floor, kicking up a tiny bit of dirt and dust. "This is going to be a long mission..."

"You know complaining about it isn't going to make it any easier or faster right?" Lightning's voice could be heard over the radio in her ear, Lightning sat in a makeshift office which the Cavalry had set up, staring at a screen which had Erin's location marked by a blue dot.

Erin rolled her eyes, "Who said I was complaining... I was merely observing the facts..." She chuckled slightly, "Anyway, no sign of any movement, moving to next location now." Erin stood up and started moving fast but quietly between the rocks, staying very cautious to keep an eye out for anything that could be near her. She halted and ducked behind a large rock, "I think some wild animals have been around here, the terrain has changed slightly. There appears to be a clearing ahead, but there isn't one shown on my ma-" She went silent instantly her eyes widened.

Lightning frowned and stood up from her seat, "Erin... what is it? Erin! Can you hear me?" She clicked her fingers and one of the technicians started tapping away at their computer, they gave Lightning a thumbs up telling her that the connection was fine. Lightning sighed, "Erin if you don't answer me right now I am coming to get you..."

Erin took a deep breath, one which could be heard over the radio, "Footprints, I see some footprints.." She knelt down and examined one of the footprints, checking the dirt around it, "These are fresh, at least five minutes ago. They are heading into the clearing. I am going to get a bit closer to the clearing.."

Lightning gasped, "hold on if they are from about five minutes ago, who is to say they aren't waiting in the clearing?"

Sighing softly, Erin looked around her surroundings, "If I climb the rocks just to the left of me then I should be able to see the clearing from a slightly safer angle. If anyone is in the clearing then I don't expect them to anticipate someone from higher ground, most of these rocks are smooth so most people would have a problem climbing these, but if I plan my climb then I should be able to get up there with no problems. Also at this time of day, this part is not hit by any sun so it will be harder to spot me."

Erin looked up the rock face, her eyes examining all the nooks and crannies that she could grip and put her feet in. She nodded once she figured out her climb. She stood up, turned her back to the fall and walked into it. She checked her surroundings one last time and then knelt down, shouldering her rifle, she took her boots off, tying them to her little rucksack.

Lightning paced the office and then sat down, "Just be safe and try not to scuff up the smooth rocks..."

Erin rolled her eyes, already traversing the wall, "Stop stressing, you will get wrinkles... Also, I took my boots off.." She slipped slightly, her legs dangling and her hands still on the wall, she sighed in relief and kept going. Once she got to the top of the wall she took a deep breath and put her boots back on, keeping her head down, she lay down on her stomach as soon as her boots were tied and crawled slowly to the edge, her eyes narrowed, "One person, male, early 20's. Seems to be unarmed but well built. Advise." There was no reply, just white noise. Erin sighed, "Looks like I am on my own.." She pulled the ear piece out, letting it just hang from her shoulder. She took her rifle off her shoulder and rested it on her shoulder, keeping her guard up.

The male paced the clearing, looking terrified, "Dammit... Why did this happen to me..." he looked at his arm, a L'Cie brand just visible to Erin from the small torch which was on and placed on the floor near his feet.

Erin's eyes widened, this confirmed the L'Cie, she lifted her rifle up to shoot but she couldn't squeeze the trigger. He looked human and terrified, he couldn't do any harm, could he?

She scowled and tried again, but looking at that face of his, she saw someone close to her heart in him. "Damn. It's not Noel.. you can do this..." she looked back towards him and he was gone, her eyes widened, "where did he go.." she whispered.

"Where do you think..." a voice whispered in her ear. She gasped and rolled over onto her back, pointing her rifle at him, her heart racing more than it had ever done before.

He smirked, "So.. they sent a little girl to get me... how cute.. what are you waiting for? Shoot me! That's what they want, isn't it?" he chuckled as he stood over her.

Her eyes widened in fear as he laughed, she shook her head and scowled, her finger on the trigger. But she couldn't do it, to her, he looked like Noel, although he was older with brown eyes and black hair. He saw her hesitation and kicked the rifle out of her hands. It flew off the wall and hit the ground below.

"It's amazing what a little bit of acting does to trick people..." He raised his boot and went to stomp on her head but she grabbed his foot. He gasped, "I see... You don't want to die... Good, that will be making this more fun!"

She closed her eyes, "Noel..." she then instantly opened her eyes, a new fire ignited in them. She pushed his foot away and kicked the other one away, making him loose balance. She rolled off the edge of the wall and disappeared from sight.

He stumbled backwards, after a few moments he regained his balance, he looked over the wall and laughed, "You can't run away forever!" He jumped off the wall and landed near the rifle, he looked at the rifle and shook his head, "If you hadn't hesitated then you wouldn't be in this mess now would you!?" he yelled.

He examined the dirt, it was all covered in his footprints so he couldn't see hers. But he did see a ditched radio on the ground. He walked over to it and stomped on it. Causing her beacon to go out. He then noticed some blood on the ground, it trailed towards the another maze of rocks. He smiled, "This is going to be fun.." He started running through the maze, following the blood splatters.

Erin ran at a steady speed, trying to force herself to go faster, she gripped her arm, which was dripping blood, it had a nasty scrape down it. She knelt down and curled up under a weathered rock, hiding completely from view. She opened her rucksack and bandaged up her arm, which had been badly scraped by a jagged rock on her fall down from the wall. She took a sip from her canteen and then pack it all away and placed it on her back again, ready to move at a moments notice. Her heart was pounding her hands were shaking. "Who is he... One thing is for sure... He knew where I was almost instantly if not before hand... almost as if I was baited without me knowing. But how did I not see it... He is no ordinary L'Cie..."

He stopped running, seeing the blood going under a rock, he smirked, pulling a knife out from a sheath on his back. He put his hand on the rock, "I have finally found you... now I did want to let this last a little longer... but you obviously aren't going to last much longer with the amount of blood you have lost already, so I will end it quickly and very painful for you... Time to die!" He darted under the rock, a loud high pitch squeal sounded and crows from the top of the rocks flew off.

Author Notes: Things have been altered to the story line to fit my fanfic. Please note this is a crossover of the two games. Sorry that is has been so long since I have updated, I have had a lot of things happen in my life and I haven't had the time or even the motivation to add more to this. However, this is part of the story is coming to a close soon. But don't be sad, I will be doing sequels for this one as I have had planned this one better than anything else, I even wrote all my ideas and plans down :D Next chapter to come out next week :D I will be starting to publish once a week!

Disclaimer: I do not own Final Fantasy 13 or Final Fantasy 13-2 or any of the characters, except my own characters and this storyline/parts of it. I will also be adding Lightning Returns to this as I have now played through it and I know where to take it with that part of the story, but that won't is for a while.
