Sister of the Boy Who Lived

Chapter 11

The year started off without much of a hitch. Because Professor Snape was the Dark Arts teacher this year, it left Ron and Harry with the option of attending potions. Well they were told to attend by Professor McGonagall, first to keep them out of trouble, and second Harry needed the Newt to become an Auror.

As neither Harry nor Ron had a potions book, they were told to take an extra from the cabinet. There were exactly 2 left, a shiny brand new one and a shaggy used old one. Ron was able to wrestle the new one out of the cabinet before Harry, leaving Harry with the older looking one. To Harry's surprise the older on was filled with notes in the margins.

Harry was discretely looking through the book while Professor Slughorn was talking about the potions up on the table. He vaguely heard Miah answer what the potions were, to Slughorn's delight. Harry only tuned in long enough to hear that a vial of Felix Felicis would be awarded to the brewer of the day.

At the end of class when Harry surprisingly won it, not only was his sister furious that he'd won, but she was equally upset when she learned that he technically cheated to do it. She told him the book wasn't safe and that he should return it to Professor Slughorn. Her voice was shrill, when she read, "Property of the Half Blood Prince," she said, "who's that?"

"I don't know," Harry said slightly confused, pulling the book safety from her scrutinizing gaze and into his arms. To Miah he looked like a weasel who had just found something shiny. She laughed at the thought before turning serious for a moment.

There was no way Miah could agree to let it go, however she did silently agree to drop the subject for now. She decided that she would search for answers in the library. She had been able to find the registered Animagus registry, she should be able to find something on this Half Blood Prince, or at least who he was related to.

As the days turned into weeks, Miah spend most of her time in the library working on assignments that weren't due for weeks. She also spent time catching up on her reading, her Parents had sent her some books to read that were totally extracurricular in nature. She could also be seen writing letters to Viktor.

In the evenings when Miah was in a good mood, music could be heard though out the Gryffindor dorms, and common room. Even the Fat Lady in the Gryffindor portrait could be heard singing or trying to sing to the music. Mostly it just sounded like cows dyeing.

"Someone make it stop," Ron would cry when they were standing outside the portrait trying to get inside. They were lucky, the portraits caterwauling couldn't be heard on the inside of he common room. Ron visibly sighed in relief when they were nestled safely in the common room. "I pity anyone that has to listen to that."

"Listen to what," Miah asked, stopping briefly from playing.

"The Fat Lady was singing again," Harry explained, "Miah perhaps you should give her some singing lessons."

"Fat chance," Ron said, "I doubt that she would think she needs them."

"He does have a point Harry," Miah said laughing lightly as she started playing again.

"Well gotta go," Harry said standing.

"But you just got here," Miah said.

"Duty calls," Harry said, "Dumbledore's orders, speacial classes and all that. Don't worry I'll fill you in when I return."

"Be safe Harry," Miah said.

"I'll see you in the morning,"Harry said.

"See you," Ron and Miah said.

"What do you think Dumbledore has in store for tonight?" Ron asked, "last time they just went over memories."

"I don't know," Miah said, "but he said he'd fill us in so I expect a full detailed report the first chance he gets tomorrow. How's your potions assignment coming along?"

"It's not really," Ron said looking down at the piece of parchment, "I don't even know where to start really."

Miah stood, grabbing her bag from the seat next to her. Sitting down next to him she opened the potions book to the chapter they were on in class. "I would work from this page and the next over. Let me know when your finished and I'll revise it for you."

"Thanks 'Mione," Ron said.

"Your welcome," she said standing, "I'm going to the library, see you later."

Soon Quidditch try outs were upon them. They hadn't gone as smoothly as Harry had hoped. Ron was trying to keeper. McLaggen seemed to be doing a better job of it. Harry watched as McLaggen seemed to be watching Miah for any sign of her looking at him. This allowed he beater to score, making Ron the one with most saves, and the better choice for keeper.

Miah who was sitting next to Lavender seemed amused at Lavenders cheering for Ron. Seemed Ron had an admirer, Miah rubbed her hands together, a smirk on her face. Teasing Material, Miah thought.

"What are you so happy about?" Harry asked curiously.

"Ron has an admirer," Miah said in a whisper.

"Really?" Harry said surprised, "do tell."

"Lavender Brown," Miah said, "she's been cheering at him lovingly and batting her eyelashes his way all day."

"Teasing Material," Harry said an evil gleam in his eye, "goody."

The two of them laughed as they continued on back to the common room.

Black eyes watched them from the shadows. It wasn't his intention to spy on them; but he found himself watching anyway. Severus was worried that his prize pupil and her idiot brother would be targets for the dark lord. He aimed to stop it from happening. He was a bit weary that, he'd already given the task to one of the 6th or 7th year Slytherins. He had to try and keep an eye on them. He owed it to Lilly to keep her children safe.

In another part of the castle Malfoy was pacing. He'd located the Vanishing Cabinet; but he didn't have a clue as how to fix it. A simple Reparo charm wasn't going to work this time. He was given the task of killing Dumbledore, a task he was beginning to see as impossible. He found himself staying to himself, he even had a hard time insulting Potter and Weasley. Miss Potter was a whole different matter. He knew that she was the bane of his masters existence. He'd ranted about it over and over again. The best way to get to Potter was through his sister. Malfoy knew she would be in danger this year,. However he didn't much care, she was Potter's and Weasley's to save.

Nott, Goyle and Crabbe had been given the mark that summer. They were all beginning to see it was a mistake. They'd seen what happened to death eaters who messed id, made mistakes or even got caught. They'd all been subjected to the Crucio more than once. The three of them had also been given the job of bringing down Potter's sister. He wanted her out of the picture or worse... Dead. They'd all seen the look in Doholov's eyes at the mention of preferred capture. Most of the Death Eaters knew that Doholov lusted after the girl. He'd been outraged about how she'd gotten one over on him in the Ministry of Magic. Sure he got her good, but she'd gotten him first, he was itching for payback.

The three boys could be seen sitting silently in the common room. The were suddenly feeling older than 16-year-old boys. Their fathers hadn't minded sacrificing their well-being to save their own hide. They were in just as much danger as Malfoy of failing, though they didn't know what the task was that he had been tasked with. All they knew was that Malfoy was distant this year, so he must be under some sort of stress.

They knew they couldn't go to their head of house about what the dark lord had asked of them. Of course they didn't know that he could help them keep her safe, or that he was already trying to keep her safe.

So the three of them silently came up with ways to hurt her, hoping that none of them would proceed in actually hurting her. However they wondered what she could have done to have gotten such a madman after her. Perhaps it was a good idea that they didn'tknow.

As the days passed, nearing closer and closer to the first Quidditch match of the season, Mclaggen was becoming more and more of an annoyance to Miah. She was constantly dodging him in the halls, hiding behind tapestries, taking short cuts. She'd even taken to hiding in empty class rooms.

"What are you doing?" a stern voice asked her from behind.

"I'm hiding," she said looking over her should to see an annoyed professor Snape standing behind her. After catching the grin he was attempting to hide she turned her head back around and peeked out the door. Mclaggen was hovering outside the door way. He'd seen her go in, he was obviously waiting for her to come out.

"Why are you hiding?" Severus asked, "And who are you hiding from?"

"Mclaggen," she answered with a sigh, "he just can't take the hint that I'm not interested."

"Yes, I can see that," Severus said, "move aside."

Miah move out of the way, allowing for Severus to open the door and walk through. "Mclaggen," Severus hissed, "what are you doing?"

"I'm looking for someone," Mclaggen said, "You haven't seen Granger around here have you?"

"I'll be the one asking the questions," Severus snapped, "what are you doing in this part of the castle after curfew?"

"I alredy said I was looking for Granger," Mclaggen said his voice laced with annoyance.

"10 Points from Gryffindor for your cheek," Severus said, "back to your tower now before I decide on detention."

"yes sir," Mclaggen said scurrying off to Gryffindor tower. After Severus was sure tht he was goon he opened the door and ushered Miah out. "the coast is clear," Severus said, "before you go, detention tomorrow evening 8:00pm don't be late."

"Yes sir," Miah said turning to walk away, "thank you."

Severus was surprised at the sincerity laced in her voice, that he forgot he was standing in the open doorway to his class room. Closing the door he returned to his office, where he had a tumbler of Brandy.

A/N: I know it's not as long as usual. I'm writing this before bed, and I'm dozing so I thought I would post what I have. It seemed like a good place to stop. forgive me for missing any bad spelling or miswording. i'm dozing off as i type this line.

I'm sorry for taking so long to update, things have been hectic around here. The daycare my kids go to closed today, so I spent the last 2 weeks trying to find somewhere they could go. Soo. Now that that's all taken care of, and I actually had a chance to update I thought I would. Again I am sorry that it took so long to get this chapter up.
