Criminal Minds
One Shot
Close Call
Rating: Uh…something where 16 years old can read. Like you guys follow the rating rules. So who the fuck cares? Why in my day, I was reading lemon when I was 12….wow that explains a lot. I'm 23 by the way.
Author's note: So I decided to take a little break from my Gundam Wing fic "Trials". It has been awhile since I've updated my Criminal Minds one shot folder. So without further ado here is "Close Call".
I do not own Criminal Minds
Ester paced her bathroom floor, chewing nervously on her nails while Spencer waited outside. Not knowing why she was taking so long in the bathroom. They were supposed to meet the team for dinner ten minutes ago, but the thought of facing them terrified her. She worked with the best minds in the entire B.A.U, they were bound to notice a few things.
A quiet knock on the door made Ester almost jump out of her skin.
"Is everything alright, Ester?" Spencer held his ear to the door, "You've been in there for quite a while."
"Yea I'm fine, I-I'll be out in a minute!" Ester grimaced at the crack in her voice. No doubt that the genius doctor heard it too.
She glanced at the white stick sitting on the hotel's marble counter. Ester didn't want to turn the thing over to see the ugly truth. That she might be pregnant, Spencer would be more than thrilled about becoming a father. But Ester still hadn't warmed up to the idea of having children.
This whole baby idea wouldn't have popped into her head, but when a victim reported that she just found out that she was pregnant with her attacker's baby—it made her wonder. It made her think about how long it had been since her last cycle, when she and Spencer last had sex and if they used protection or not.
Ester eyed the possible future and without fear turned it over. "Oh sweet Jesus fucking Christ, thank you!" She thought happily.
Ester opened the door, trying to look as casual as possible, but she felt like she was smiling like a fool. Spencer was relieved to see that she wasn't ill.
"You okay?" He asked nervously.
Ester pursed her lips, "Yea I am, but I don't think you will be."
Spencer's whole demeanor shifted from relax to panic within seconds, "Why? What's wrong?"
Ester held up the pregnancy stick and frowned, for Spencer's sake at least, "Its negative."
Spencer's shoulders dropped, the hope of a child now diminished, but then a thought occurred to him. "Wait…you thought you were pregnant and yet you didn't bother to mention it to me?"
The hot headed girl rolled her eyes, "If I had told you before taking the actual test and turned out negative you would have been disappointed."
"Don't you mean 'we', we would have been disappointed?" He asked defensively.
Ester sighed deeply, not wanting to have this conversation. "No Spence, just you."
The boy genius looked genuinely hurt, his mouth slightly opened and brows creased upwards. "You don't want to have kids…with me?"
She stepped forward, now looking sympathetic as she felt. Ester knew how much Spencer loved and wanted children. It pained her to have to tell him the truth. "No Spence, I don't want to have kids in general. I've never liked kids; hell I didn't like kids when I was a kid." She admitted.
Spencer sat on the bed, Ester following suit—placing a hand on his knee. Turning his head towards her, but he avoided making eye contact. He wasn't sure if it was because he was disappointed in her answer or if he was just afraid of looking at her in the eye. "Do you think you ever will?"
The glossiness in his eyes, indicating tears, almost made the lump in Ester's throat break. She never wanted to tell him this much, but she had no choice. "I honestly don't know Spencer." She replied shakily, "I didn't have the best childhood growing up, you know that. I guess I just don't want to be like my father. I'm afraid that I'll do the same things he did."
Spencer's voice was quiet, he held her eyes softly, "But you won't, wouldn't. You'd have me and the others."
"Spence…"
"No Ester! I don't to end what we have. I don't want to lose you Es, not you! I love you and I can wait for you to change your mind. Even if its 30 years down the road, I can wait!" Spencer pleaded, "Just please don't leave me."
Ester's heart broke seeing Spencer like this. She sunk to her knees in front of him, cupped his face in her hands and softly gazed into his chocolate brown eyes. She brought their foreheads together before their lips met for passionate embrace.
She couldn't break up with him, not when she loved him to the point where everything hurt. When nothing made sense, the birds were singing, the flowers smelled good and the sun was brighter. Ester quickly shot out a text to Hotch, saying that they wouldn't be down for dinner. He wouldn't ask questions, he knew that the two were seeing each other. Even though was against regulations—Hotch knew that Ester and Spencer were good for each other.
Author's note: yea that's right Hotch totally ships Ester and Spencer and I have given them a name. Spenster. Let this become a thing. Please, oh, please let this become a thing.
