Thank you for all the lovely reviews from the previous chapter! This chapter was pretty fun to write, so I hope you all enjoy chapter 11 :)
A month had soon passed, but today was not like any regular day at Arendelle.
Today was the baby shower.
Of course, the term 'baby shower' was underrated, especially if you were celebrating the pregnancy of the Queen. This was a pretty big deal, an extremely big deal. Not only was the Queen expecting her first child, but everyone knows that Jack and Elsa aren't like most people, so this child was pretty special.
The moment Elsa told Anna that she had agreed to let her throw a baby shower, Anna instantly got down to work. This was exciting, not only for the royal family, but to all of Arendelle too. They had been looking forward to catching that first glimpse of Elsa for weeks now. However, even though Elsa was not exactly looking forward to this big occasion, it was too late to back out now. Anna had literally planned everything herself.
Within the past month, Anna had done absolutely everything to make sure that the event will go perfectly. She, along with the help of Kristoff, had prepared everything from the guest list, to the food, to the music and to the decorations. Everyone was here; from the royal family of France, to Elsa and Anna's family members from the northern part Norway.
The party had already started. The gates were open, music was playing, everyone was smiling and enjoying themselves here in the gorgeous castle of Arendelle. While Anna and Kristoff were downstairs greeting all of the guests, Jack and Elsa were still upstairs in the bedroom; Elsa didn't want to go downstairs just yet. In fact, she'd rather much stay in her room if she could.
Jack stared at his reflection through the full length mirror and sighed deeply. Today, he was not wearing his usual comfortable attire of a hoodie and pants, but rather wearing something that was not his style at all. Elsa had asked the tailors to make Jack a very dashing and royally-fitting suit, complete with a tie and everything. He looked good, if he had to say so himself. But this outfit, it just wasn't him.
He sighed, preparing himself for whatever witty comment Bunny had to say later on.
"I can't believe you're making me wear this," he muttered.
"Why?" frowned Elsa.
"I look so...not like myself," he said.
Elsa couldn't help but roll her eyes as she walked over to him, standing next to him as she looked at the two of them through the mirror. Elsa's hair was styled in a lovely half-updo, rather than her usual braid, and she was dressed in a long, light blue dress; her 16-week old baby bump was visible beneath the silky fabric.
"Well, I think you look very handsome," she said.
"I hate suits," he muttered.
Elsa just sighed.
"Can't I just wear my regular clothing?" he asked.
"No, Jack. Today is a special event. Don't you want to look your best?" she asked.
"Easy for you to say. You're not the one wearing this," Jack answered.
Elsa raised an eyebrow as she turned to him. "Well you're..." she gently jabbed a finger at his chest. "...not the one carrying a baby in their body, now are you?"
Jack laughed nervously, realizing that she does have a valid point.
"Can I at least keep my hair the way it is?" he asked.
Elsa looked up, and frowned at the sight of Jack's usual white hair, tousled and pointed in every direction. She had planned for him to make him comb it back, to make it look decent, but decided to just let him have it his way. Just this once.
She sighed deeply and said, "Fine."
Elsa turned back to the mirror. Her hair and make up looked lovely, but when her eyes trailed down her reflection, her smile started to disappear. She absolutely loved the dress she was wearing; it was blue and silky and it was embellished with ice-like diamonds along the side. But as stunning as the dress was, Elsa just didn't like the way she looked in it. It was just unflattering, unattractive.
As she looked in the mirror, everything felt and looked so bizarre. She has had a fairly slender physique all her life, but now, her body adorned a bump - a bump that held a child. It was all too strange, all too different. She just had to look away.
Jack turned to her. "What's wrong?"
Elsa pouted as she placed her hands on her stomach. "This."
Jack raised an eyebrow. "What?"
She sighed as she turned back to the mirror. "It's bulging against my dress."
Jack rolled his eyes. "You're pregnant," he said, as if to remind her.
"It looks unappealing," she muttered.
"You look fine," Jack said.
She sighed. Elsa knew her stomach was inevitably going to get bigger, but as she stared at herself through the mirror, it was just another reminded that she was going to be a mother very soon. It was just another reminded that she has to endure this journey of pregnancy before it was time to give birth to her child. And every time Elsa's eyes wandered down to her growing belly, it sent an odd rush of adrenaline through her body.
"Hey," Jack said, cupping a hand under her chin. "If I can survive wearing this suit, then you can survive wearing a dress that shows how extremely pregnant you are."
Elsa sighed heavily and frowned. "You're not helping, Jack," she muttered. "And besides, I'm not that pregnant...am I?"
Jack looked down and stared at the stomach that was holding his child. Of course, 'extremely pregnant' was just an exaggeration. Though Elsa's stomach is starting to show through her dress, she was only about four months pregnant after all.
Jack chuckled under his breath as he leaned towards her. "I think...you...look gorgeous," he whispered between kisses.
"Jaaack! Elsaaa!" Anna's voice sang from the other side of the bedroom door.
Elsa pulled away from their kiss and sighed apologetically before saying, "Come in, Anna."
The door opened, and Anna popped her head in. She, too, was dressed in her most formal attire; her brown hair was up in a bun, while she wore a very ravishing lavender coloured dress. She gasped and squealed to herself when she saw them.
"Oh my goodness! Wow. You both look absolutely incredible! Jack, I barely even recognize you! You look so handsome. All eyes will certainly be on you both," Anna smiled at them.
Elsa sighed heavily. That wasn't exactly what she wanted to hear...
"Oh, Elsa. Look at you! You are so beautiful! I'm speechless," Anna gasped in adoration as she stepped inside of the bedroom. "Oh, you two look so, so perfect."
The blonde smiled gently and said, "Thank you, Anna. You look lovely yourself."
"Oh, thank you," Anna said. "Anyway, I hope I wasn't interrupting anything, but more and more guests are arriving, and they are all dying to see you both."
"Now?" sighed Elsa.
"Yes, now! I left poor Kristoff downstairs to deal with all the guests, so hurry!" Anna said.
Jack sighed as he and Elsa exchanged a quick glance. He turned back to Anna and nodded his head. "Alright. Tell the guards that we'll be downstairs soon. Just give us a few more minutes."
Anna smiled and nodded before exiting Elsa's room, closing the door shut behind her. Elsa turned to Jack. He looked into her eyes and automatically knew what she was feeling, based on the expression she wore on her face. He smiled gently before stepping in to wrap his arms around her, feeling her stomach lightly press against his body.
"You'll be fine," he whispered.
"I know," she breathed out, before pulling away to look into his eyes. "I'm just a bit nervous. I haven't done anything like this in my life. The last time Arendelle celebrated something like this was when my mother was pregnant with Anna - and that happened years ago."
"Which is why today is extra special," said Jack.
Elsa sighed. "I don't know if I'm ready. This is my first public appearance since the news of the baby broke out."
"You're worrying way too much. You'll do great, I know you will. And besides, look at you. You're stunning. You look absolutely breathtaking," said Jack. "But today, you just need to let go of being Queen, let go of being pregnant and just relax."
She looked down at her bare hands. Jack was right; all she needed was to take a deep breath, and relax. Elsa knew that she really didn't have anything to worry about, nothing at all. But she will always know that no matter where she went, no matter what she does, fear will always have a place in her heart.
Jack noticed that she was looking down at her hands, sighing deeply as he took them in his.
"Gloves?" he asked.
Elsa nodded.
Jack picked up a pair of white satin gloves from the dresser, before gently slipping them over Elsa's delicate hands. Elsa watched as he worked with her fingers, his blue eyes focused on making sure they were perfectly fit, watching as his silver-white hair moved when he did. Sometimes she wondered what she had done to deserve someone as perfect as Jack, someone so protective and compassionate. She loved him so much.
"There," said Jack as he finished.
She sighed to herself. "Thank you so much, Jack."
He laughed. "They're just gloves, Elsa."
Elsa laughed in return before shaking her head. "No, I didn't mean that. I mean thank you. For everything. Just everything that you've done for me, not only with the pregnancy, but everything, from the very beginning, from the moment we first met."
Jack smiled at her, leaning down to press his forehead against hers. Elsa slowly reached up to wrap her arms around his neck, laughing as he leaned in to kiss the tip of her nose. "You are extremely important to me, you know," he said.
"As are you," said Elsa.
He smiled again before giving her a quick kiss on the lips. "Now then. Shall we go downstairs?"
Her smile instantly faded, but she nodded her head.
Jack sighed before gently tilting her chin up with his finger, their blue eyes connecting once more. "Don't worry about a thing. Anna, Kristoff and I will be right by your side."
Elsa laughed a little. "You're acting as if today is all about me. This is your child too."
"I know," said Jack, tucking a loose strand of Elsa's hair behind her ear. "But I'm pretty sure the Queen is more important. Who cares about some silly old Guardian?"
"Lots of people care, especially me," Elsa said gently, before reaching up to press her lips onto his. "I love you, Jack."
"I love you too," he whispered, before reaching his hand out towards her. "Are you ready?"
Elsa nodded as she took his hand and intertwined her fingers through his. "Ready," she whispered.
Anna wasn't joking when she said that all eyes will be on Jack and Elsa, because the moment the guards announced their arrival, all eyes were definitely glued onto the Guardian and Queen. As Jack and Elsa descended down the grand staircase, every single living presence stared at them with awe and admiration, like watching two glistening snowflakes that adorned a touch of imperishable beauty.
Jack himself was already an extremely handsome young man. And Elsa had elegance that was so strikingly flawless, it seemed unreal. But when they stood side by side, it took everyone's breath away. With their pale skin, light hair and compelling blue eyes, the Guardian and Queen looked flawless, absolutely exquisite. It was truly magnificent; it was undeniably a sight to be seen. Even the palace guards, chefs and maids held their breaths as Jack and Elsa entered.
Once they reached the bottom of the staircase, Elsa looked around for a few seconds, taking in her surroundings. With almost every inch of the palace decorated in crystals and flowers, the inside of her castle definitely didn't seem like her castle; it was beautiful, but Anna really did go overboard with the amount of extravagance. She then caught a glimpse of the overwhelming amount of gifts, which sat next to the vast variety of food.
Oh, Anna, Elsa thought.
From the corner of her eye, she saw her sister and Kristoff, who were both smiling proudly at them both. Anna motioned Elsa to say something, anything to welcome the guests. Elsa bit down on her bottom lip. How could she forget? She had been worrying about this whole thing that she didn't even prepare a welcome speech!
But she took a deep breath, hoping she won't get tongue tied and said, "H-Hello everyone."
Anna did a hand gesture and mouthed the words 'speak up'. Elsa sighed. Having the jitters while having to make a speech in front of a large amount of people wasn't her forte.
"I would like to start off by saying thank you to all of you for coming. This is truly overwhelming, " she said, a bit more loudly. She just hoped the shakiness in her voice wasn't obvious.
Elsa glanced over at Anna, who nodded and smiled.
"It really means a lot to myself, and to Jack that you have all taken the time to come to Arendelle to celebrate the coming of our child. I know that you are all as excited as Jack and I are, and it really is special that you are all here to join us in today's celebration," said Elsa.
Elsa actually surprised herself by how good she was doing, considering the fact that she was unprepared and that she was basically saying whatever came into her mind. She thanked a few more people, thanked Anna and Kristoff for planning this entire thing before handing the welcome speech over to Jack. Jack, however, froze. He knew that he should say something; this whole celebration was for his child, after all. He didn't know what to say or do, but soon said a few words of his own, basically summarizing everything that Elsa had said, only in different words, before letting Elsa have the final say.
"And behalf of myself and my sister Anna, I know that many of you here knew our parents, and have been friends with our mother and father before their passing. And although my parents never got the chance to live to see their future grandchildren, it means so much to me that those of you who were friends with them, and personally those who I have known since I was a child, will get to see my own child grow up, as if my parents were here with me," Elsa said.
Anna sighed and smiled. She was so proud of her sister.
"Once again, Jack and I appreciate you all being here, and we hope you all enjoy the celebration," Elsa finished.
Not even fifteen seconds had passed after Elsa's welcoming speech, before she was pulled away from Jack by family, friends and other guests who were dying to talk to the Queen. They all squealed and gasped in adoration, asking her endless questions about the baby and the pregnancy.
Jack chuckled under his breath as he watched them lure Elsa away. Over the next two hours or so, Jack himself got plenty of attention, mainly from people he has never seen in his life. They were probably other royals, some citizens of Arendelle, some people from Elsa's side of the family. He got his share of 'congratulations' and constant questions about the baby. But he hasn't seen Elsa since her speech ended, and he would rather much be with her, rather than answer the same thirty questions over and over again.
He sighed in relief when he finally saw her walking back to him, without a mob of people trailing behind her.
"And where have you been?" he teased.
She laughed lightly. "I'm sorry. Everyone wanted to speak with me. I was about to return to you an hour ago, but then Anna insisted that I had to greet each guest individually."
He smiled. "It's alright. I'm just glad that you're back."
"So, how about you? Have you been enjoying the party so far?" she asked.
"Yeah, it's been pretty fun. I've been talking to a few people too; a couple of yours and Anna's family members. Your uncles, actually," said Jack.
"Oh no..." Elsa said as she stifled a laugh.
"Yeah," Jack laughed, shaking his head. "Let's just say that it's been a pretty interesting afternoon so far."
Elsa laughed before reaching to fix the tie on Jack's suit. "I'm sorry," she said apologetically. "I know a few of my family members can be quite embarrassing and intimidating, especially mine and Anna's uncles. But that's their way of welcoming you into the family. I'm sure they like you."
"Right," said Jack.
Elsa laughed, before reaching up to kiss him on the cheek. "I'm sorry if they scared you," she said softly.
"It's fine," he smiled, looking down at her. "Anyway, your speech was incredible. I knew you could do it."
"Really?" she beamed. "I didn't sound nervous?"
He shook his head. "You sounded perfectly calm. I'm pretty proud of you."
"Thank you," she sighed, before gently placing both hands on top of her stomach. "You know, this is starting to feel so real."
"The pregnancy?"
"More than that. This pregnancy, our baby, becoming parents..." she sighed and smiled. She almost felt foolish for ever feeling miserable and afraid before. This whole thing now felt remarkable.
Jack smiled at her, but didn't say anything. Despite every good thing that was going on in his and Elsa's life right now, he had to remind himself everyday about Pitch. With each day that passes, was another day closer to Pitch's return. And no matter how happy he looked, how calm and normal a day seemed, the fear and concern that Jack felt for Elsa and their child increased each day.
But Pitch's words rang in his ears.
"One year, Frost. You have one year...If you want to protect Elsa and the rest of those pathetic Guardians, then you will hand over your child to me."
"There they are! Jack! Elsa!"
Jack snapped back into reality when he heard their names being called. That voice, it sounded like...
He and Elsa both turned their heads at the same time towards the source of the voice, only to see Tooth, North, Sandy and Bunny walking towards them. He smiled; after being in Arendelle for so long, it was definitely good seeing his fellow Guardians again for the first time in months.
"Wow, and I was beginning to think that you guys got lost on your way here," Jack teased.
"Blame those bloody reindeer. I knew I should have taken my tunnel instead, rather than that good-for-nothing sleigh," Bunny muttered.
Tooth laughed as she leaned towards Jack and Elsa. "Bunny sort of angered the reindeer on the way here," she whispered.
"I'm not surprised," Jack laughed.
"Ha, hilarious, Frost," Bunny said dryly. "On the other hand, it's lovely seeing you again, Elsa."
She laughed. "Thank you, Bunny. It's great seeing all of you again too."
"Sorry for coming so late," said Tooth. "I hope we didn't miss too much."
Elsa smiled and shook her head. "It's completely fine. Just as long as you all arrived safely."
Tooth smiled. "Anyway, Elsa, we want to say congratulations! You are absolutely glowing! Oh, we all cannot wait to meet the little baby!"
Bunny scoffed from the side and said, "She's also looking forward to seeing the baby's teeth once it grows some."
Tooth frowned at Bunny before turning back to Jack and Elsa. "Don't listen to him. But wow, I can't believe it. This baby is going to be the most precious child ever. Can you imagine a little Jack Frost or a little Elsa running around? How adorable!"
"We'll be fortunate if the baby takes after it's mother," Bunny said. "One Frost is already one too many."
Jack just rolled his eyes before turning back to the other Guardians. Sandy had already trailed off towards the dessert table, and North...wait. North had barely said a word yet. Usually, he would be the happiest, jolliest and not to mention the loudest of them all, but today, he just stood there, his eyes wandered off to the floor, wearing a frown instead of his usual smile.
This certainly did not seem like the Santa Claus he has known for over 300 years. In fact, this might be the first time seeing North so...not like himself.
"North?" asked Jack.
The oldest Guardian, who had been deep in thought for the longest time, blinked and turned to Jack. "Yes?"
"Are you alright?" Jack asked.
North chuckled. "Of course I am!" he said in his thick Russian accent before patting Jack on the back. "Congratulations, Elsa. I will make sure that the baby will be spoiled with every toy it will ever want."
Elsa laughed. "Oh, why thank you, North. The baby is definitely going to be lucky having you four as it's uncles and aunt," she smiled, looking at the Guardians.
But Jack's eyebrows furrowed as he continued to look at North. He was definitely acting strange. Or at least, it seemed like it.
As the celebration progress, things were going perfectly fine. However, North just couldn't hold it back anymore. Ever since his last chat with the Man in the Moon, he has been feeling guilty and somewhat horrified that he had to bring this upon Jack. Despite being who he is, the jolliest man on earth, he was keeping a secret - a secret that was extremely crucial, not only to Jack and Elsa, but to them all.
But he was done with keeping it in.
He had to tell Jack - now.
North sighed as he stood up. He made his way over to Jack, who was talking to Bunny, Sandy and Tooth and cleared his throat.
"Jack?"
The white haired Guardian looked up. "Yeah?"
"Can I speak to you?" the old Guardian asked.
Jack raised an eyebrow. He looked at Bunny, Sandy and Tooth but they didn't say anything. Unlike Jack, they already knew what was going on; North had told them what had happened during his last encounter with the Man in the Moon. They all agreed that it was terrible, that it was dangerous, but it was also the right thing to do.
"Um, yeah, sure," said Jack.
North turned to Tooth and said, "Tooth, keep an eye on Elsa."
Tooth turned to look at Elsa, who was on the other side of the hall with Anna, before turning back to nod her head. "I will," she said.
"Wait, wait, wait, hold on," Jack said. "What is going on?"
"Follow me," North said in a low voice, disregarding Jack's question. He turned around and started to make his way down a quiet hallway.
Jack, however, stared at all of them in disbelief. What was happening? Why wasn't anyone telling him what was going on?
As North walked, he sighed deeply before shoving his right hand into his pocket, feeling the small vial of clear liquid roll into his palm, the vial that the Man in the Moon had given him, the vial that labelled 'death'.
So, we are one step closer to finding out what actually happened between North and the Man in the Moon.
I loved writing this chapter, especially the dialogue between Jack and Elsa when they were talking about the baby ^_^
