''Bec? Rebecca?''
''Honey, just calm down and lay back down,''
Ben looked around at the nurse speaking to him and immediately ignored her request, standing up.
''Where am I?''
''You're in the hospital, you were injured in a suspected street fight,''
''Street fight?'' Ben asked in disbelief. ''What are you...''
His memories soon came rushing back. The man who was after Rebecca, Tony running through the streets, Ben trying to protect Harley. It wasn't a street fight, it was an attack, and he needed to get back there now.
''It wasn't a street fight,'' he groaned, putting his hand to his head to realize there were multiple stitches.
''Try not to touch them,'' the nurse suggested. ''You have to lay back down, you're still recover-''
''No, I have to go,'' he shook his head. ''My girlfriend...she's in trouble,''
The nurse looked at him worriedly before putting a hand on his shoulder.
''Is there something going on? Abuse? Domestic violence? Is someone harassing you and your girlfriend?'' she asked, concerned.
Ben took a deep breath and tried to gather his thoughts. All his memories from the night before were fuzzy, he couldn't quite make out the sequence of what happened, he just knew that he had to leave this hospital. Rebecca had been taken and he didn't even know what happened to Tony, but he couldn't be here.
''Something like that,'' he told her nurse. ''You have to let me go,''
''You have a concussion, it's strongly advised you stay in for observation, I don't recommend leaving at all,'' she told him. ''Listen, if you're in trouble with people, we have options, we can get you help,''
''I don't need help, I just need to leave this place now,'' he told her.
''Your health-''
''Get me the paperwork I need to sign myself out, or I'll just walk out the door,''
Rebecca had never been so thankful for potholes in roads until one was big enough to rattle her awake. She knew exactly where she was. In the trunk of a car, just as she had been on previous occasions when she'd gotten herself into trouble. She should have been used to being in these sort of situations by now, but it was never pleasant to feel oxygen fading away.
The car was still driving, but she was still planning to get out. Whatever Savin had injected her with to knock her out had worn off before he predicted, and Rebecca was not about to be kidnapped yet again. She was going to fight back, just like she had before, except this time she had a big advantage over the metal door holding her inside the dark confinements of the car. She had Extremis.
Rebecca focused as much as she could as she put her hand to the metal, making it glow orange around her touch. With enough time and focus, it would soon melt off. However she immediately pulled her hand away when the car rolled to a stop.
Savin stopped at a small gas station, wanting to have a word with locals about a certain billionaire that may have passed through. He stretched his arms as he stepped out of the car, running his hand along the frame until he reached the trunk, feeling the heat of the metal.
''Well, looks who's awake,'' he remarked as he tapped on the door.
Rebecca gritted her teeth as Savin hit the door, knowing she was too weak to escape now.
''You're burning up like a fireball in there sweetie,'' he chuckled. ''You're just gonna tire yourself out,''
Extremis amplified everything in Rebecca's body. Her hate towards the man, her anger and her desire to get out of this car. She pulled herself to her knees as Savin continued whistling to himself and making remarks, thinking she was inside the trunk suffocating as she struggled. In one fast movement, Rebecca used all her strength to push the door up into the air, snapping it away from the car. It pushed Savin onto his back as it flew off the car, smoking from Rebecca's hands. However her dramatic exit was belittled by the fact she fell out of the car when the fresh air and oxygen hit her body.
''Now, now,'' Savin chuckled as he stood over her. ''Let's not get ahead of ourselves,''
Rebecca hated the way he looked at her as if she was so weak and pathetic. Her eyes glowed red with anger and her body began heating up, and that only made Savin laugh more.
''That's what you get for running away without reading the intstructions,'' he shook his head. ''You don't know how to control it, you don't know how to use it,''
Savin wasn't expecting a fist to hit his face with such force it knocked him onto his back, but that's exactly what happened. Rebecca threw punch after punch and kicked Savin until he stayed down, her rage taking over her strength. Rebecca stood over him now, throwing another punch into his face as blood came out of his nose. He had Extremis too though, nothing she did would really hurt him, and she enjoyed the fact she could hit him repeatedly.
Although there were people standing around yelling, Rebecca reached around Savin's waist and pulled out his hand gun, making sure it was loaded and pointing it directly at his face. The yelling turned to screaming then, but this was Rebecca's only way out. She had to get the upper hand.
''Maybe not, but I know a thing or two about weapons if you didn't know that already,'' she told him with a slight smirk. ''And I'm pretty sure I know how to use this,''
Savin chuckled at her, but he didn't fight against her yet.
''That won't kill me,''
''No it won't,'' she shrugged. ''But I'm sure it'll hurt,''
''You couldn't do it,'' he smiled at her. ''You're a kid, fight for good and all that, you wouldn't-''
Rebecca interrupted him by firing a bullet into his shoulder. The people around her screamed and ran away, going inside the small store at the station. Savin cried out in pain, but he still didn't fight back.
''You were saying?''
''Where do you think this is gonna get you?'' he asked. ''You're not gonna kill me and Killian won't stop looking for you,''
''What did you do to my dad?''
''I wouldn't bother tracking him down, he hasn't got long left anyway since he's got that file.''
Rebecca swung the gun around in her hand and hit Savin across his face with it. To say she was angry was an understatement, she wasn't operating on a sane level anymore, and she was beginning to scare herself as well as everyone around her.
''Where is he!''
''On the run, he's being hunted,'' Savin told her with a smirk as if he was enjoying this. ''And so are you,''
Savin knocked Rebecca back, gaining enough time to stand up and throw a punch at her. However, Rebecca caught his fist in her hand as her eyes glowed red, his hand being burnt by her own.
''Feels good, doesn't it?'' he winced, but still chuckled. ''Realizing what you are. But it won't last long I promise you, we'll have you dead by-''
The gun shot three rounds. Rebecca's hand shook with anger as she saw the blood trickling from Savin's chest. He wasn't going to die, they both knew that, but he wouldn't be getting up for a while. Everyone screamed around her in fear, and Rebecca stood motionless for a moment, looking at what she had just done. Soon enough, she put her hand down and slid the gun into her pocket. She needed to get out of here. Rebecca rushed over to the car and got into the driver's seat, started up the car and took off as if she was in pursuit, which she knew she would be now.
She needed to find her dad and Ben, who she assumed was still back in the small town. The whole situation had just been taken up a notch. Looking around the car as she drove back down the road, she found a cellphone and desperately wanted to call Ben or her dad, but she knew it would be bugged. However it was Savin's phone, which meant all contacts he had to report to were now accessible to her.
Rebecca didn't know if it was the fact she was still extremely angry or not, but she picked up the phone and began calling Killian. The man who made her into this, the man who she was going to stop no matter what. Savin hadn't told her what happened to her father, but she knew she could trust his word when she said he was being hunted, that he didn't have much time left, and she was going to distract their plan. She'd be the bait, and she had been many times before. Except this time it would be voluntary.
''Savin, where the hell are you?'' Killian's voice answers, angry. ''Did you take care of it?''
''Savin? Yeah, he's taken care of for now,'' Rebecca answered, a playful grin on her face. ''But as for you master plan, I'd have to say it's not going too well,''
There was pause on the other line, a moment of silence as Killian put the pieces together.
''I have to say, I thought you'd be dead by now,''
''Honestly, I thought so too, but you seem to be unable to manage that,''
''I'm sure I could arrange your death today sometime, whenever you're free,'' Killian smirked, beginning to track where the call was coming from.
''Well if you kill me today you won't get the file will you?'' she taunted, knowing the file was an important part of whatever plan was going on. ''And I'm sure it contains a lot of stuff you don't want anyone else to see,''
Killian paused again.
''Listen-''
''I'm done listening,''
Rebecca threw the phone onto the passenger seat next to her. With any luck, they'd be tracking her right now and someone would be coming for her. But she was going to stay one step in front of them from now on, and she had a plan of her own. She had to find out what that file was, but that meant finding her dad and she'd be leading them right to him. For right now though, she planned on finding another car and phone to lead Killian's henchman on a chase.
Hey guys, I know this was a short chapter but I hadn't updated this in a long time and I just wanted to give you something to let you know I am continuing slowly on this story. I've just seen Captain America 2 and am thinking about writing a fic in that movieverse, but it's just a thought for now. I have my other story to work on as well, but I'm just lacking inspiration and motivation lately. However I will be continuing on to finish them so I'm sorry if updates aren't regular, I'm getting there slowly.
Anyway, thanks for reading and keeping with this story
