A/N: I'm sorry.

"-And then I come out and she's chewing on them! Ugh, Kristoff, what am I going to do?"

Anna was... not in a good mood. She had been up early for Weasle's class (where he proceeded to stare at her while explaining what would happen if they didn't submit their essays on time. Fucking toad) and was now sitting with Kristoff at the same coffee kiosk they went to yesterday. She had some time to kill before Rapunzel finished her own class (she, somehow, managed to get the lecture right after and so didn't have to be awake until 8, instead of getting to class at that godforsaken time. As soon as she finished, they were going to the library to finish said assignment.

Elsa had been taught the basics of Netflix and eaten the rest of her biscet- spaghetti. Anna didn't trust her not to go through her underwear drawer again if she got hungry (and she hadn't said exactly why she'd started chewing on the underwear in the first place). Instead, she'd asked, shyly, if they could build another snowman.

Anna hadn't responded.

The big blond (who hadn't said a word about Pabbie (because Anna hadn't let him), or a word at all, really) clapped Anna on the shoulder before giving a very useless shrug. "Wait it out?"

Anna didn't even bother replying to that; she just sent him a glare. "I feel like I can't even trust her to not be an idiot."

Kristoff screwed his mouth up in thought, but didn't say anything (not that Anna gave him a chance, anyway).

"So, I go to bed and half an hour later she's crawling under the covers with me, and you know how small my bed is. I tell her to go back to her own blankets, and then ten minutes later, she comes back! I swear I didn't get any sleep all night.Ugh."

There was silence for a few moments as Anna's head fell forward into her waiting hand. She didn't move from that position.

"Look, Anna," Kristoff said after a few moments. "Have you actually, I dunno, talked to Elsa?"

Anna rolled her head to the side, looking at him from the corners of her eyes. "How? She doesn't even know how to use pronouns, Kris. Pronouns!" He sighed.

"Okay, I'm going to be straight-up with you, Anna. You're being a bitch." Anna sat up straight, glaring at him. An incredulous scoff burst from her throat, but Kristoff didn't give her a chance to actually retort.

"No, shut up. Look, Elsa was a dog. And now she's a human. You've put her in a situation surrounded by double-standards, and honestly, can you tell me that you wouldn't be confused if you suddenly became an animal?" He took a sip of his coffee and turned his gaze onto the park. "I think you need to pull your head in and apologise because you're not being fair. I wouldn't be surprised if she ran away at this rate."

Anna stuck her bottom lip out and glared at nothing. "Good. Then I wouldn't be stuck on 24/7 babysitting duty to a moron."

"Ugh!" Kristoff cried out. "Anna, she's your pet. You have an obligation to look after her." Shaking his head, he stood up. "I have class. Just... remember how rude Hans was to you? Saying he loved you and then acting like the utter prick he is? Don't you think you're doing the same thing to Elsa?" When she didn't say anything, he scoffed. "Ugh, do whatever you want." With barely a glance, he threw his (still terrible) coffee out, leaving Anna to muse on her own for a while.

How dare he suggest she was a bitch?! Or that her actions were as bad as Hans?! He had broken her heart! That was nothing compared to what Elsa was doing. Elsa was the one with a problem. She was never a messy eater as a dog—hell, Anna had to hand feed her. Getting annoyed about the change was completely natural and justified. The girl hadn't even apologised!

Thankfully (... she thought), Rapunzel arrived only a few minutes after Kristoff left (at least if felt that way). Anna realised belatedly that he hadn't actually told her what Pabbie had said. She wasn't in any mood to ask him about it now, though, and followed her brunette cousin dutifully to the library.

This time, they managed to actually get work done, and Anna was feeling rather good about it. Rapunzel had (wisely) decided against bringing up Elsa, and Anna was incredibly grateful. To be honest, Anna was actually spending a good portion of her time daydreaming, thoughts drifting to the blonde girl. There was an uncomfortable sensation in her stomach, akin to the one she got if she couldn't remember if she'd turned the oven off, and it took every ounce of her willpower to fight down the urge to go and check up on Elsa—especially as the day progressed and Kristoff's words began to sink in.

She had just made up her mind to duck in and check on Elsa before work when Rapunzel gave a loud huff and sat back. The girl had been doing a far better job of working than Anna, but, like her tact in not mentioning Elsa, knew that something was going on.

"I'll finish this up," she said, "and send you a copy tonight after work." Anna glanced up at her, confusion written on her face.

"What? I can stay for a while. I don't start work for another-" she glanced at Rapunzel's computer "-ten minutes, shit. I've gotta go, sorry!" Rapunzel gave her a small smile, shaking her head.

"It's okay, Anna. Go make money." Anna shot her a pained smile. This day was going too fast.

The night was actually rather quiet. Anna hated it. At least if it was busy, she could entertain herself by making up stupid stories about the people, or actually, you know, working. She couldn't do either of those if there were actually no people.

Thus, it left a lot of time for introspection.

At first, it was busy. She had the night shift, 4-to-midnight, so there were a number of students coming in to get their nightly dose of caffeine in order to get the work done. Even then, it was a Monday. People didn't usually stress about their schoolwork on Monday.

It was dead by 5. It didn't help that Oaken's was actually having a sale, so everyone was probably there.

Anna entertained the idea of stopping by there to get some nice chocolate. Maybe... maybe she did owe Elsa an apology.

As much as it pained her to admit, Kristoff was... right. A little. Not a lot. She hadn't stopped to think about how this had affected Elsa, and it sort of wasn't fair for her to be so... Anna couldn't think of another word that wasn't 'mean', 'douchey' or 'jerkish'.

And maybe the dig about Hans had hurt more than she wanted to let on.

Kristoff was more than just a 'little' right. Sure, Elsa had humiliated her, but as Anna thought back to the first night she got her, maybe she should have expected it. The girl (when she was still a dog) had made a complete mess of her noodles. She had cried when Anna locked her in the bathroom.

She loved Anna, and maybe the red-head had been oblivious to Elsa's struggles because the girl hadn't let her see them. She was always smiling and bouncing around, after all.

She was a dog in a woman's body and had only had a few days to really develop as a person. So, she was a dog with the mind of a child in a woman's body.

God, and she was so mean to her. What if Olaf had done the same thing? She wouldn't have yelled at him, ignored him. She'd get him to apologise for making a mess and show him the proper way to eat spaghetti. She wouldn't kick him off the couch, or make him- oh god. Make him sleep on a pile of blankets in the corner of the room.

God she was a bitch. Why hadn't she seen it earlier? She was better than that! She was a good person!

... so why hadn't she acted like it?

That single question plagued her for the entirety of her shift, and when midnight came, she couldn't get out of there fast enough. She snagged a chocolate muffin from the basket (knowing full-well her boss wouldn't mind because.. .he wouldn't mind?) and rushing from the shop.

Head down against the cold (though at least it wasn't windy), Anna tried to come up with a plan. Would Elsa even forgive her? It was one thing to realise you were being cruel, and attempting to make amends, but another thing altogether to actually succeed. The muffin was a peace offering, and Anna vowed to be a better... person. Owner.

Friend?

Eh, she'd figure it out if and when Elsa accepted her apology.

Arriving outside her dorm, she only spent a few seconds shaking the snow from her shoes. Her feet and fingers were freezing, but she barely noticed as she pushed open her door. She hadn't bothered to lock it with Elsa there. She girl was a deterrent enough on her own (though, Anna thought with a grimace, the way she had thought it that morning certainly wasn't all that flattering).

"Elsa?" she called out softly to the darkness, not sure if the girl would come bounding up to her or choose to ignore her. She honestly wouldn't be—and wasn't—surprised when the latter materialised.

"Elsa?" she asked again, flicking a light on. Her eyes protested against the sudden flood of light, but after blinking a few times she was able to see the room clearly.

The empty room.

Her laptop lay on her bed, abandoned. Her pillow was in shreds on the couch, and there was a large puddle of milk on the bench.

There was no Elsa. At all.

Oh God. She'd run away. Anna had been a bitch and her dog-come-human had run away, in the middle of night, in the middle of snow because of it.

Anna didn't deserve to feel upset—hadn't she said she wanted it earlier on?

Unbidden, she felt her chest constrict. She was a terrible human being, and an awful owner and friend and just a complete assjerkface. There was only one person who could help her, and she didn't even have any qualms with calling them.

Hitting the right contact, she lifted her phone to her ear, trying to ignore the way her hands shook a little. It dialled out for a few beats, and Anna felt her breath catch when it connected.

"Ugh, what? It's like, 1am."

Anna pulled her bottom lip between her teeth. "Kristoff?" she said softly, swallowing thickly. "Elsa ran away."

A/N: I promise with all my heart that it gets better. It gets a lot lighter after the next chapter. Might actually make some headway on the tumblr prompts ^^" As always, your reviews make me cackle and I love them :) If Anna's characterisation seems off, /please let me know so I can fix it. I realise that bitchy!Anna is rather OOC and I never planned on having her be cruel for too long. She just got overwhelmed by everything.
