Nick's jaw dropped, at least as much as it could in his sick and exhausted state. He didn't know why he was so surprised to see Jess there in his doorway. He should have known that Jess would have followed him back from Oregon. He watched as she hesitated in the doorway, shuffling from foot to foot, but not taking a step further into the bedroom.

"Hey Jess…" He said groggily. "You can come in." He saw her mind turn for a brief moment before she took a step forward, carefully balancing the tray of soup in her hands. She walked over to him and set the tray on Nick's nightstand so that she could help him up. Nick tried to think light thoughts, but it was no use as he could tell that Jess was struggling.

"Sorry I'm such a fat ass," he muttered. He saw a weak smile creep at the corner of Jess's mouth, and for a moment he wasn't mad at her anymore.

When Nick was finally sitting up, Jess sat the tray on his lap. Nick picked up the spoon, which felt like he was lifting a boulder, and began his attempt to transport the soup into his mouth. Jess saw him struggling and stopped his hand before he could spill the soup all over the bed. She sat on the edge of the bed and began to feed him the hot liquid.

Nick watched her as she fed him. Her eyes would furrow in concentration and her lips would press together tight, each time that she dipped the spoon into the soup and carefully brought the spoon up to his lips. It felt like heaven each time he swallowed; warming his body as it made its way down to his stomach. He was sure that he had never had anything that tasted so wonderful in his life. Scratch that, he thought to himself, There was only one thing that tasted better, and she happens to be in the same room.

"Oh no!" Jess had spilled some of the soup on Nick's shirt, "I'm so sorry Nick! Let me get a towel or something!"

Jess went to get up but Nick stopped her, "It's fine Jess! It's just a shirt! I can just take it off!" Nick went to take off his shirt, forgetting that the tray of soup was still on his lap, he hit the tray with his heavy arms, causing the soup to get all over himself, the bed, and Jess.

"Aw shit, now I'm the sorry one!" Nick felt embarrassed. He felt like he couldn't do anything for himself right now.

Jess started to laugh, the sound breaking deep into Nick's soul. He felt as if his anger at Jess and for being sick was shedding away.

"Here let me help you," Jess offered between giggles. She moved the tray back over to the nightstand and pulled the wet blanket off of Nick's bed, setting it at the foot of his bed. She took Nick's shirt off, his pants unharmed, and added that to the pile. Next she started to take her cardigan and dress off, causing Nick's breath to hitch in the back of his throat. If his anger wasn't gone before, all thoughts were gone from his mind as he stared at Jess's beautiful body.

"What are you staring at?" Jess asked, "It's not like you haven't seen this before."

"I know it's just...it feels like it's been awhile."

"I know."

They stared at each other for a moment; Nick could feel the electricity between them. Nick wasn't sure what to do. He wanted to go to her, to sweep her off her feet and bury her with kisses but he could barely move from this flu he had.

Luckily he didn't have to. Jess slowly made her way towards him. She crawled up beside him and brought her face close to his.

"Jess, I'm sick," he said, offering her a way out.

"I don't care," she replied, then pressed her lips against his. Nick couldn't tell if it was the flu or Jess's kiss making him feel light headed, but he didn't mind. There was something about Jess that he just couldn't stay mad at her for long. The hurt feelings were still there, but he pushed those aside. Right now he was with Jess and she was kissing him and loving him, and that was all that mattered.

Nick broke the kiss to get some air. He didn't quite have the energy to kiss like he normally did. He also figured he should get some things out in the air before they continued.

"Jess, I got some things to say," Nick piped up. Jess took this cue to put her head on his shoulder.

"Mhm" she replied into his chest.

"First off, I'm not angry anymore. Maybe it's this flu thing that changed me, or you playing doctor, I don't know. But I'm still hurt. I still cringe to think that you were kissing Sam."

"I know Nick, I'm sorry."

"Shh I'm not finished," he felt her nod against his chest, and she absentmindedly started to play with the hair on his chest like she used to do. "I don't want to fight anymore, at least not like this," she laughed. "I want you to know and remember that I don't want anyone but you, and I never will. If we are going to make this work, you have to promise me not to forget that. Do you?"

"Yes."

"Yes what?" he teased.

"Yes I promise!" she replied.

"Good." Nick said satisfied. "Because I think this is something worth fighting for. We have something special. I don't think it was just fate that you answered our Craigslist ad, I think that it was destiny." Nick felt profound; maybe he should get sick like this more often.

"Are you saying I'm your destiny?" Jess pushed herself off his chest and looked into his eyes.

"I guess I am."

"I love you," Jess said. Nick could see that she meant it. Her blue eyes were filled with love and regret and apologies.

"I love you too." He said back. He leaned his head towards Jess, signaling that he was ready for another kiss.
