SORRY FOR NOT UPDATING EARLIER BUT I HAD A FEVER! I LITERALLY JUST SLEPT FOR MOST OF THE WEEK AND I FELT LIKE I WAS BEING COOKED! THEN I HAD TO MAKE UP SOME STANDARDIZED TEST WHEN I GOT BACK TO SCHOOL! THE EVIL...
PETERS POV
I woke up in a strange room, confused? Where was I? Then, I remembered everything that had happened.
I somehow missed my friends and Nadia even more. It physically hurt. I wondered if this was how girls felt when their boyfriends broke up with them and they sat in their rooms with mascara running down their faces. I bet that this was worse.
I went to breakfast and sat down across for Caleb, who seemed like he ws sulking a little.
"You look happy this morning," I said.
"Oh be quiet," said Caleb. "People keep looking at me funny. Some people even gave me dirty looks. Does it not bother you that these people have been watching us on surveillance cameras for out entire lives?"
I had noticed people staring at me a little bit, but I tried to ignore it.
"It's a little weird," I said.
"Not just a little! It's creepy!" he said.
A little boy ran up to us giggling. I hadn't noticed many kids around here.
"Is it true that you're from that experiment?" he asked.
Caleb looked like he was actually going to yell at the kid, but I managed to keep my cool better than him.
"Yes. And people would prefer if you didn't ask them that question," I said.
"Oh, okay. Sorry, mister," he said, and scampered off.
Caleb sighed. "This is going to take a lot of getting used to."
A man ran into the cafeteria.
"I just got back," he said, breathless. "They told me my sister set out with you guys, and—"
This guy looked like Tori, the tattoo artist. Caleb and I exchanged a worried look.
"And . . ." George began again. "Why are you all looking at me like that?"
Cara stepped forward to tell the man what had become of his sister, but Four valiantly stepped up and said,"Your sister did leave with us. But we were attacked by the Factionless, and she . . . didn't make it."
The man touched the wall behind him as he wobbled a little. "What?"
"She gave her life defending us," Tris said, with surprising gentleness. "Without her, none of us would have made it out."
"She's . . . dead?" The man asked. He collapsed onto the wall,
I noticed Amar from yesterday get up and walk over to him.
"I tried to find you earlier to tell you," Amar said.
The man grasped onto Amars shirt and Amar hugged him.
I felt a stabbing sadness. No one should lose their loved ones. I quickly shooed the feeling away. It made me feel weirdly vulnerable.
Eventually, Amar lead the man out of the room. They walked away talking in hushed voices.
"The rest of our friends are okay, right?" asked Caleb.
"Well how am I supposed to know?" I asked. "But on the bright side you can always check on them with the cameras!"
