Chapter 10: Hinata's Servant
Hinata was practicing her stealth with her new favorite activity for the month outside of training and being with Naruto: watching her sister and Konohamaru. Normally she would be watching Naruto from a distance, but since they were pretty much boyfriend-girlfriend, she felt that she didn't have to as much. She also respected his privacy for his training; she hoped they would 'wow' each other at the finals. No, watching her sister and her friend was much more entertaining.
Ever since the meeting with the elders she had been curious about her imouto and the Third's grandson. It was found out later that day that Ebisu was spotted covered in honey and running away from the Abruame compound being chased by bugs. Apparently he'd made the mistake of referring Konohamaru as "Honorable Grandson" by habit, which really ticked off the boy but he was trying to break that habit for his own sake.
As the days went on a similar string of pranks started occurring in the Hyuga compound, much to the displeasure of the elders. The whole clan knew that Hanabi and Konohamaru were behind it, but it was sporadic and they couldn't get substantial evidence to really punish both of them.
Today the two had a different target in mind. Konohamaru admired Naruto and what he would do. Naruto was a mentor to him that Ebisu could never be. Ebisu was too old to really relate to the little boy. That being said, he had no love for those who called Naruto names or spoke ill of him.
"So tell me again why we're doing this?" Hanabi asked.
"Well…the way I see it, boss is too busy to get back at the people that badmouth him. Since he's got the Chunin Finals to train for I figured we can do it for him," Konohamaru answered grinning.
"…okay…so we're doing a snare with a pitfall surrounding it, right?"
"Right."
Hanabi sighed. "Okay final run down. Pit?"
"Check."
"Snare?"
"Check."
"You got the guy's sandals?"
"Right here," he says putting them in the snare.
"NO YOU IDIOT!" Hanabi tried to warn him, but it was too late.
The snare snagged Konohamaru by the wrist and had him dangling in the tree.
"AHHHH! Hanabi help!" he cried as Hinata tried to stifle a laugh as she watched the scene play out.
*sigh* "We just went over that the snare was already set up, but did you listen? Noooo~. And this is what you get Kono-baka," Hanabi said.
"Just help me down. This thing is cutting off circulation in my hand," he said. Hanabi just stood beneath him looking both annoyed and confused.
"Do you even know what circulation means?" she said.
Hinata was barely holding back from giving herself away as the two bickered back and forth. Finally having her fill of fun she decided to help them out. She could snap the rope with her mind, but she wanted to test her physical ablilities and her claws.
Hanabi was still bickering with Konohamaru when a blur passed above him and cut the rope. Good news. The bad news was that she was directly beneath him. "Crap," she thought.
Konohamaru didn't know what happened one moment he was still stuck in the tree arguing with Hanabi and the next he was on the ground, or at least what he thought was the ground. Opening his eyes he now saw he was on top of Hanabi. What was worse, she was looking right into his eyes and they had ended up kissing.
He quickly got off of Hanabi and backed up, neither noticing the blushes they were sporting.
"Uh…H-Hanabi?" he said nervously.
Hanabi's face went from shock to anger. "PERVERT!" she cried as she launched Konohamaru into the air with a punch similar to a pink haired kunoichi.
Still blushing she stood up and brushed herself off.
"W-well this prank is a bust. I'd b-better go find h-him," she said to herself with her blush still there.
When she left their target went to see what all the noise was about, but saw nothing except his sandals. He went over to grab them only to fall into the pit they had dug for him.
Hinata got out of her hiding place laughing at all that just transpired. She took another look at the picture she took of the two children kissing and grinned at the sight.
"Looks like Naruto-kun is rubbing off on me," she thought to herself. Even her other half was snickering at the scene.
Collecting herself she decided to head toward the hospital to check on Neji's teammates. Just because hear cousin was a jerk to her didn't mean that she should ignore his teammates in pain. After all, they were Konoha shinobi.
Konoha Hospital-Kin's room
With bandages still wrapped around her head, Kin Tsuchi analyzed her current predicament for a final time. She had failed Orochimaru, which was the equivalent to either signing yourself for torture and experiments, or a death sentence. Probably all of the above. She'd basically a little more than a week to think about this and sum her future down to two options.
Option one: she could wait until Orochimaru or one of his henchmen came to "take care of her". Personally she had no desire to die yet.
"Hell, I didn't even have a choice in the matter it was either join him or die that day. Maybe I should have died," she though bitterly to herself as she remembered the day Orochimaru came to her village. Taking a deep breath she focus back to her train of thought.
Option two: she could go to the Hokage and try to bargain her life for what little information she had. Sure she knew about the invasion, but other than a few bases she knew next to nothing.
She sighed once again. She knew she at least had a chance to live if she gave Konoha information. Nodding to herself she called out for a nurse.
"Hey nurse can you come in here for a sec, there's something I need."
The door opened not to a nurse but a man in an ANBU mask. But his voice made Kin's blood run cold.
"And what is it you need Ms. Tsuchi?" asked Kabuto.
Konoha Hospital-Hinata's location
Hinata had checked in with Tenten first becase her injuries were not as severe as Lee's and she didn't know if Lee was well enough to have visiters. It turned out Tenten just checked herself out not long before Hinata's arrival and after some idle chatting she decided to check in on Lee as well.
The two kunoichi made their way to Lee's room, but then heard a scream and sounds of a struggle. They quickly raced to the source of the commotion to find the Oto nin that Shikamaru fought being attacked by a mystery ANBU.
Not wasting any time Hinata used her crushing grip to grab the ANBU and lift him up. With eyes blazing orange with psionic power, she gave a feral snarl as she kinetic blasted him out the window. The ANBU however moved his body in a way that could have him not take all the damage, but he was still flung out the window and lost an arm in the process.
Hinata had unconsciously drawn on her Zerg side as she sensed the ANBU's mind and knew it was Kabuto. Looking out into the street she flung him she scanned the area with her Byakugan and her psionics, but he was already outside her range. Her clawed hands slashed at the wrecked window in frustration. Taking a calming breath she retracted her claws and turned to ask Kin some questions.
Both Kin and Tenten had their mouths open in astonishment. Kin had't seen Hinata and Ino's fight, while Tenten did see it before she could not believe it until now. Both of them felt the power that rippled off her when she threw the ANBU out the window and they could only speculate what she was really capable of.
Kin was especially frightened when Hinata turned around and had her eyes directly on her.
"Alright Kin what's going on here? Who was that and what did he want from you?" she asked Kin putting some venom into the girl's name.
She was about to answer until she noticed the needle in her arm. She knew right away she'd been poisoned by Kabuto.
"Shit! Quick I need to see the Hokage immediately."
"And what did you need to see me for exactly miss."
Everyone in the room turned to see the Hokage and several ANBU present looking like they wanted answers.
Kin could already feel the poison's effects working through her system. "Look I don't have much time. I've been poisoned and knowing the bastard who gave it to me, I don't think anyone can save me save for Tsunade of the Sannin. There's going to be an invasion and it's going to-"
"Happen during the final exam, we know," the Hokage interrupted.
This surprised Tenten as she was the only one in the room that didn't know.
"Wait why hasn't something been done about this?" Tenten asked.
"There has been. However we can't afford to let our enemies know that we know and that makes this an A rank secret Tenten," Sarutobi explained. She nodded in understanding.
Kin coughed as the poison was affecting her breathing. "Okay, so you knew about that, but I can at least give you the locations of a few of Orochimaru's bases so you can counter attack. I owe the bastard nothing and it'll make my death mean something. I'll need a map. The sooner the better."
The Third nodded and motioned for the ANBU to give her what she needed. She quickly got to work circling the places the bases were and giving what info she could recall in her debilitated state. Tenten took this opportunity to be escorted to the Hokage Tower to be filled in when the Third returned to his office.
Hinata looked at Kin in a new light. She wasn't bad. She was forced into situation that she had little choice but to be bad.
"If that's the case with Oto, than Orochimaru needs to be taken down soon. If only there were something I could do to help her," she thought.
She then reached deep into her mind to look for something, anything that could help her. Frustrated she sighed looking down at her hands in defeat, then it came to her.
"Wait, if Sulu's virus could alter my very own DNA then maybe…"
She reached out with her mind. "Xendra can you hear me?"
"Yes my queen I hear you."
"Someone I thought an enemy has turned out not to be, however she was poisoned. Is there a way to save her?"
"…There is my queen. Sulu can alter her in one of our spawning pools. She will be altered in a way that this poison will be useless against her, but she will be changed for the swarm's use."
Hinata stopped at this. It was either let this girl die or condemn her to service under her rule, a slave to her whim. Not to mention the physical changes that would occur with this mutation. Gulping she reached out once more.
"Will she still have her free will?"
"If you wish it, it shall be done my queen."
Hinata relaxed a little at this. She looked at Kin sadly. Kin was starting to give in to the poison's effects.
"Hokage-sama," she said getting everyone's attention, "there may be a way to save her. May I propose it to her?"
Sarutobi nodded beckoning her toward Kin who looked worse with each passing moment. Kin looked at Hinata with a pleading look.
"So *cough* you think you can save me?" she asked.
"My name is Hinata Hyuga. And yes I believe so. However there is a price to saving you." Hinata revealed her changing arm and emphasized it by showing her claws. "The price is that you will become something…not entirely human. I'm sorry, but there is no other way. I will however make sure that you maintain you're free will. So what is your decision?"
Kin was mortified at the news. On the one hand she would live and have a chance to get back at Orochimaru, but on the other hand she would essentially become a monster of some kind. And the poison expedited her decision, putting her on a timer.
She then thought about what Hinata was able to do. Would she get similar abilities? She took one last look at herself and took a breath before she would pass out from the poison.
"Y-yes," she uttered before her consciousness fell into darkness.
An ANBU caught her from falling. Kin's breathing became shallow. Hinata looked at the Hokage with an apologetic look.
"I can only speculate how you are feeling Hinata, but are you positive the Zerg can save her?" he checked.
"Yes Hokage-sama, I asked Xendra telepathically and she said it can be done."
"Then go and make sure it is done properly," he ordered.
Hinata nodded and motioned for the ANBU to follow her. When they got to the Forest of Death she took Kin's comatose body deeper into the woods, leaving the ANBU. Using her enhanced muscles she made it to the underground hive in record time.
She made her way to the evolution chamber and found Xendra and Sulu there waiting for her.
"Let us get to work my queen. Remove her clothing, set her down into the spawning pool and we will begin," Xendra said.
Hinata nodded. She stripped Kin and set her body above the pool. Tears were forming in the Hyuga's eyes.
"Please forgive me," she whispered into Kin's ear.
She set Kin down into the pool, letting the fluids begin their work. Sulu rubbed his hands together in anticipation as his more manipulative limbs made their way to Kin's form.
Much later
Kin began to stir from her unconsciousness. She realized that she was floating in some kind of liquid, but felt better. Not just better but great. She then noticed she was in some sort of pod.
Using her new strength she pounded on the side of her containment, cracking it. Kin then felt the need not just to break out, but tear her way out. She felt new limbs reach up and pierce the crack, ripping open a coughed out some fluid and breathed in the air. She saw Hinata and lots of creatures around her.
The bulbous one spoke first. "Mutation: complete."
"How do you feel Kin," Hinata asked with genuine concern.
Kin then looked at herself. She was covered in greyish skin with carapace armor. Denser carapace was around her stomach and more private areas that made it look like a corset. She had claws, but not as large as she saw Hinata have. She felt her new enhanced muscles flex and relax. What she notice most of all was that instead of hair she had four long tentacle appendages each ending with a foot and a half long spike at the end of each.
(AN: Think Izsha from Heart of the Swarm but with arms, legs, and has Kin's face and body.)
"I feel incredible. I admit that this will take some getting used to, but I am alive."
Hinata smiled bitterly at the statement. "Everyone besides Xendra and Sulu leave," she commanded. When the chamber was empty Hinata turned back to Kin.
Kin was now taking in her environment. She looked back at the cocoon she came from then saw many other cocoons surrounding them.
"Kin," Hinata said getting her attention, "p-please tell me how you are r-really feeling."
Kin saw the sadness in her eyes as she cast down her own gaze.
"Look I know you probably feel bad about all this," she gestured to her new form with her hands and new tentacles, "and I would be lying if I said I was on hundred percent fine with it. I mean I might be able to hide my features a bit but I have to face facts, I'm not…I'm not human anymore."
That one phrase broke the dam and she couldn't contain herself anymore. She lost strength in her legs and sobbed openly. Hinata bent down and comforted her knowing the predicament all too she wept for as long as she needed she smiled at Hinata and thanked her.
"So…what exactly can I do now?" she asked.
"Sulu?" Hinata asked.
"Basic physiological enhancements. Improved immune system. Adapted poison into sequence. Can now produce and administer through spikes. May also administer antidote the same way. Examined previous form to determined role in Swarm. Body not built for frontline combat. Built for a more supportive role. Does not possess powerful psionic potential, only minimal. Adapted to aid in commanding the Swarm, not overriding will of queen. Enough to aid in span of control. Ensured free will as per parameters set by queen. Acknowledged need for Terran form to move among them without suspicion. Created way to transform from Zerg form to Terran form. Key to doing so is will power. Queen shall also have ability once evolution complete," Sulu listed off.
Kin nodded, closed her eyes, and focused her mind on her form and willed herself to be human again. She felt something happening and the chamber felt cooler to her. She opened her eyes and found herself human again…and naked.
She quickly covered herself in embarrassment. Hinata handed her cloths and Kin set about getting changed. While she was putting on her shirt she noticed that her form couldn't change her tentacles back into hair, only made them shorter to the length her hair was before.
She came back dressed in her usual outfit, minus the Oto headband, and had her tentacles in a way that had her front two look like bangs and the back two braided into a pony tail.
She felt a little restricted in this form, but she considered it a price to be paid for being able to become human, or Terran as Sulu called her form.
"Thanks for this Sulu at least I can pass the whole tentacle hair as a new bloodline. Other than that I'm back to normal. Now who is this queen you were talking about? Is it you?" she asked pointing to Xendra.
"No, I am not my queen. I am Xendra, a Broodmother. Our queen is her," she said pointing to Hinata.
"You!?" Kin exclaimed. Hinata nodded not hiding her changes for Kin's sake. Her arms closer to her wrists had changed a bit and her changes went up to her ankles from her feet.
"Yes. I became infected with a virus they created so that they would have a queen. They need me to survive. Unlike you I'm still changing, but I'm resisting it. You didn't have that luxury. It was either let you die or change you immediately. I'm sorry," Hinata said downcast.
*sigh* "Look, you just said that you didn't have a choice, so I can't really blame you for saving my life. But thanks for your concern."
Hinata smiled at this. "Well, we'd better go see the Hokage and inform him about the new you."
They both made their way to the Hokage tower all the while Kin was amazed at her new endurance. When they got there she felt little to no fatigue. Hinata asked the secretary if the Hokage was in, she was told and they waited.
A little later they were escorted in.
"Ah Hinata, I was wondering when you would come by," the Third said. He quickly put up a privacy seal and nodded to them. "So I take it your plan worked?"
"I won't lie Hokage-sama, I was extremely nervous about the whole plan even though it was my idea. However I'm happy to say that the past fourty-eight hours were successful. Sulu did his work and improved her, as he's inclined to do," Hinata reported.
"Wait, I was out for two whole days?" Kin asked.
"Yes. To manipulate DNA to such the degree that Sulu had to is a long process. I had him make sure that your original form wasn't compromised for the new adaptations made." Kin nodded and let Hinata report the new enhancements to the Hokage.
Sarutobi exhaled from his pipe in contemplation. "I'm getting too old for this shit. Well I don't think Kin will be able to walk around Konoha openly until after we've dealt with the invasion. For now keep her with the other Zerg so Xendra can teach her how to command them when you're not around. If she is seen, we say that she awaken a new bloodline so people aren't scared of her tentacles."
"That's acceptable Hokage-sama. After this is done I wish to become a kunoichi of Konoha if it's alright," Kin said.
Sarutobi lowered the privacy seal, but before anyone could leave a messenger came in.
"Hokage-sama, the council is requesting your presence and that of one Kin Tsuchi."
The Third rubbed his temples and sighed in frustration. "Kami-fucking-damn it!" "Very well we'll be there shortly. Hinata you're dismissed."
"I will see you later Hinata-sama," Kin said shocking Hinata a bit before she shook it off.
Hinata bowed, gave Kin a reassuring smile, and left to see if Naruto was free for the afternoon.
Council chambers
The councils were waiting for the Third and Kin to arrive, but had been briefed about the hospital incident. The shinobi council had been informed of the impending invasion a week ago and started to preparing themselves for action. The elders were also informed but could do little given their age.
The civilian council looked as bloated, fat, and arrogant as ever as they waited with childlike impatience. No, even children had better patience than most of the adults among the civilians. These people were the main reason Konoha was slowly dying. They had bled it of resources simply to fatten their own wallets and fan their egos.
They also were the source of Naruto's suffering as a child, especially from Sakura's mother. She would keep her hatred of Naruto to herself since her daughter was of his team and was now a kunoichi, but she had been subtly fanning a sense of hatred in her about him. She had been like this since Sakura's father died the night the Kyuubi attacked.
The last party of interest was Danzo, who had called the meeting, and his hidden ROOT agents with him. His mind was preoccupied with his private agendas. He had heard that Hinata had been receiving training from Anko and a few others in the Forest of Death after she had somehow awakened a new unclassified bloodline. From what he heard, she was infected with a virus and it awakened her abilities.
Interested he'd sent ROOT agents to see if they could get a sample of her blood so they could isolate the virus and replicate it. None that were sent returned. Seeing that option was "blocked" he sent agents to study Hinata's abilities as she practiced. They had returned, but reported that she was just getting new shinobi training and they were only using the Forest of Death because Anko practically lived there.
What he didn't know was that those who returned weren't loyal to him any more.
Xendra was no fool; she knew it would only be a matter of time before some foolish Terran would think about exploting the Zerg. She had heard the betrayal that had befallen the Queen of Blades at the hands of one who had a similar agenda to Danzo. She had made sure that those who tried to take from her new queen and the brood died painfully, and those who watched Hinata practice were made into double agents with a Zerg parasite that attacked the brain and made the victim nothing more that slave to the swarm's will. One of the infected was always present with Danzo so she could always have eyes and ears on his operations.
Finally the doors opened and the Hokage walked into the room taking his place in the Hokage's chair. Kin was escorted in by real ANBU and now stood before them.
"Alright everyone, I wish to know why a meeting was called and why you wished to see miss Tsuchi," he said in a commanding voice.
Danzo rose from his seat clutching his cane for support. "It has come to our attention, Hokage-sama, that there was an incident at the hospital that miss Tsuchi was healing at that left her, reportedly, poisoned and the attacker without an arm. Please explain."
Sarutobi sighed. "Very well. Yes Kin Tsuchi was attacked, and were it not for the interference of Hinata Hyuga and Tenten I have no doubt that something terrible would have befallen her. We have taken the arm and confirmed that it belongs to one Kabuto Yakushi and we are currently searching for him."
Tsume Inuzuka, Kiba's mother and matriarch of the Inuzuka clan, spoke up. "I've heard of him. Apparently he's a brilliant medic nin, but has failed the chunin exams seven times. Why would he do something like this?"
"I'll tell you why," Kin spoke, "he was probably under orders from his master, the ruler of Oto: Orochimaru."
The councils gasped. "If that's true than that makes you no more than a spy for him," one of the fat civilians said.
*sigh* "That's why Orochi-teme sent Kabuto after me, because I "failed" him in the exams, but knowing him he would have killed us anyway," Kin retorted.
"What I am interested is how you are here. If what has been said here is true, than that means you are or have been poisoned," Shikaku Nara, Shikamaru's dad, said.
"Oh that. I have Hinata-sama to thank for that. She thought up a way to save me and it worked, but I doubt she could do it again anytime soon. The head tentacles are a new kekkei genkai that awakened as a result of the poison and the cure," Kin said going with the cover they thought up and getting the issue out of the way.
"Why is it that gave Hinata the title of sama?" Shibi Aburame, Shino's dad, asked. His insects seemed rather excited at Kin's presence for some reason.
"The way I see it I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for her. I gladly pledge my services to Hinata-sama and wish to become a Konoha kunoichi once the finals are over so that I can have a fresh start away from the shadow of Oto," Kin said proudly.
The Hokage nodded, as did most everyone else save for a few civilians. "If there is nothing else I think this meeting is over."
Everyone left and Kin sped back to the Forest of Death to await her queen's return. Xendra was waiting for her in the main Hatchery. Kin bowed to her superior out of respect for her new teacher.
"We should get your training started if you wish to be of use to the swarm as our queen thinks you can be," Xendra said. "We shall start with your spikes. You should be in your Zerg form and become more comfortable in your true form."
Kin sighed, but nodded in understanding. She disrobed and stood on the creep naked covering her modesty with her hands. She let go of her human form and shifted back to her hybrid form, tentacles swaying around her. She looked at herself again. Her hands moved away from her carapace form, since those parts were now covered again. Kin could still hardly believe this had happened to her.
"Now then," Xendra brought her back, "manipulate your appendages and try to gain absolute control over them."
Kin felt her head tenticles, but moving them was another issue. She tried to move them like any other limb first. They moved in front of her so she could get a better look at them. They had segmented plating running down their length and the spiked tip did look pretty intimidating. She tentivly reached out to touch one and both limbs flinched back at the sensations. It felt so weird to her. It was almost no different than touching her own arm.
She decided to go for a strike and stab at an invisible target. She felt the power behind her new appendages as they darted forward. Unfortunately her inexperience with them and poor stance caused her to fall face first into creep.
*sigh* "This is going to take some getting used to," she said getting up to try again.
