Chapter 11: Lost and Found

Gunfire and yelling. Both elements of the chaos occurring in the room ahead. Bon was right ahead of me as we ran. The sword as in his hand, fixed as good as new. Rin needed it as soon as possible and by the sounds of it we were almost too late.

I could hear Amaimon clearly. He was angered and ready to crush his little brother.

"OKUMURA!"

We reached the balcony. Rin was out cold in the middle of the destroyed floor. Amaimon had changed, controlling a giant dirt monster as armor to crush all in his path. I gritted my teeth in frustration. Damnit!

"Are you gonna sleep the whole day", Bon demanded. "Wake the hell up!"

"I can hear his heartbeat", Amaimon stated lowly, turning to us. "Give me the sword!"

"Shima catch!"

Bon threw the sword to a lower level where Shima was waiting. He panicked, not wanting to be the one holding it.

Bon barely dodged Amaimon's stone fist while I leapt onto it. The stone was rough beneath me but I ran along the arm, trying to get to Amaimon before someone got killed. Damn that demon but I wasn't going to let ANYONE die!

"Izumo", Shima called and tossed it down to her. She caught it easily before handing it off to Yukio. He headed straight for Rin's still form. Amaimon cried out in frustration and slammed his foot down before he reached him.

I stopped breathing, trying to spot Yukio under all the debris. He was caught under heavy slabs of stone, the sword still in his hand. There was no way he could get the sword to Rin now. I jumped down, Amaimon spotting me with a growl.

"Ryuu!"

I ignored him, snatching the sword up. I ducked between the stone legs. Rin was still out cold. Shaking his shoulder, I pressed the sword to his chest.

"Rin get up! Now's not the time to screw this up! Ri-!"

My words were cut off, Amaimon grabbing me in a large stone hand. I growled, trying to wiggle free as my headphones fell to the floor with a crack. He barely spared me a glance, focused on his real prey.

Rin suddenly erupted in blue flames and rose to his feet. His eyes were red with rage. I gulped; the energy of his power became almost suffocating. He drew his sword, his blue flames growing brighter.

What happened next took merely seconds, but to me it was the longest moment of my life.

Rin skillfully dodged Amaimon's blows, running along the length of the other arm. He swiped his sword, cutting right through the stone. He reached the end to where the Demon King was, plunging the sword right into him.

My eyes widened and I froze, falling to the ground as the giant stone form collapsed.

"Impossible! I am King of Earth! How could I lose!? How could I ever lose!?"

Amaimon was engulfed in the blue flames and turned black as night itself. He screamed in agony, calling for his older brother to help him. Mephisto just watched as if his brother was not dying.

Ashes fell, mixing into the debris. I was frozen where I was.

No way….he couldn't….no…

Rin slid his sword into its sheath before falling on his face, out cold once again. The flames had vanished and the son of Satan lay unharmed. Yukio and Sheimi called out for him.

The man I had seen before with long golden hair, rested the blade of his sword against Rin's neck.

"Hey what are you doing", Bon yelled.

"I'm going to severe the bloodline of Satan."

Laughter echoed through the room, gaining a high pitch. Everyone turned to the source.

"S-severe the bloodline of Satan", I giggled as I stood. "You're insane."

"Excuse me?"

I looked up, eyes a golden blaze. Yukio tensed and cursed under his breath.

"You cannot truly severe the bloodline of Satan, for in a way, all demons are his children." An insane grin spread across my face, tail switching around," No matter how many you kill nothing will change! Why can we not leave each other alone!? We each have our own worlds!"

"Ryuu", Shima stepped forward, eyes narrowed. "You need to calm down-"

"Calm down!? CALM DOWN!?" I laughed," There is NOTHING to be CALM about!"

"We saved Rin! What's wrong with you!?"

I hissed at him, "At the price of another….one demon saved yet another lost-"

Someone slapped a hand over my mouth, yanking me against their side. I growled, the scent of Mephisto filling my senses.

"That's quite enough out of you."

The three heads whom sat high above everyone stared at me," Is this another son of Satan?"

"No I'm afraid not. But he is to be used for the same purpose. You see this is the only surviving hybrid of Lucifier."

Whispered echoed amongst the survivors in the room. I tensed, eyes darting around but I didn't struggle against Mephisto. What purpose?

"Can he be contained?"

Mephisto smirked," Quite easily. He's just been through a stressful weekend, nothing more. I have personally looked after him."

Angel removed his sword from Rin's neck at the order," Angel stand down…"

"We have decided to accept the proposal made by Sir Pheles."

"Wither Rin Okumura becomes the savoir of Assiah or the demon who destroys it. We have no choice now but to wait and see."

"And as for this new addition to Sir Pheles proposal….you Mephisto will be in charge of this one. If he gets out of hand Angel will do what is needed."

Mephisto nodded," Understood."

I let out a shaky sigh and closed my eyes, blocking out the worried looks I was getting from my classmates. The pain in my chest throbbed. Damnit why….why….

"Mephisto I want to leave…"

"Not yet dear boy, you're still under my watch and care."

I sighed, sitting crisscross in a chair in his office," I just want to go study…"

"You can do it from here."

I growled at him.

It had been nearly a week of me staying with Mephisto. Yukio and Shura had their hands full with Rin and Mephstio took it upon himself to watch me personally. Also, I had been suffering more pain. I…

I shook my head. No, I couldn't think of it…of him.

"Ryuu."

"What."

My voice was completely monotone.

"Time to do something dear boy", he dropped something on my head.

I blinked, catching it as it fell. It was a sucker from that candy store. How did he…?

"Lose the headphones, time for some training while hunting for this demon you keep sensing."

"Training…?"

"Chop chop", he smirked, spinning his umbrella.

I sighed, reluctantly removing my headphones and laying them on the seat. As I followed Mephisto from his office I placed the sucker in my mouth. The familiar rush of watermelon and apple flooded my tongue. I narrowed my eyes.

"Ryuu?"

My head snapped up in surprise," …Yukio."

Mephisto chucked as the exorcist held the closet door open. However instead of walking into a closet we walked into the hall of cram school. I froze, the two men walking past me.

"Come along Ryuu."

"…..the demon was here."

Yukio looked at me in surprise," You can tell?"

I nodded slowly before following them," I can smell its host's fear…."

Mephisto smirked and lead us to an empty classroom where the smell got stronger. I was surprised to see all my old classmates inside, Rin included.

"What? You didn't get the email", Bon asked.

Both Rin and Izumo pulled out their phones to look at this supposed email.

"I sent that to all the exorcists in our region", Mephisto announced, drawing everyone's attention. "I'm afraid it's an emergency."

Shima furrowed his eyebrows," Why'd you send it to us, we're just exwires."

"The situation is so dire my boy that I felt we would need your assistance as well."

Yukio spoke next to explain the situation," A type of demon called Gufu has infiltrated the academy. Sir Phele's protective barriers are supposed to repeal any demon mid-level or higher. So we have to figure out how it got in here."

"A demon can only pass the barrier one of two ways", Mephisto stated. "Either the barrier has a tear in it somewhere or there is a person inside the academy who let the demon in."

"Say what", Rin asked.

"Who'd do something like that and why", Bon wondered.

"Who knows, I have no idea", Mephisto said before elbowing me.

I sighed and raised my gaze to finally meet theirs," Some demons feed off fear. By offering protection to a person they can get inside, using that person as a host, just like a parasite."

He nodded in approval," Now then I've asked the instructors to investigate the Gufu's whereabouts. However I'd like you exwires to personally conduct an inspection on the barrier."

Everyone nodded," Yes sir."

I stayed where I was, Mephisto handing clipboards of portions of the barrier to check to pairs in the class. Yukio grabbed Rin before he could go.

"Not you Rin, you're staying here and training some more."

He yelped when Yukio tugged him back into the room. I sighed softly, taking a seat on top of a desk. Rin grumbled, pulling out three candles and lining them out.

I watched as he concentrated on the candles. My eyebrows raised as they all just burst into blue flames. Rin groaned in defeat, shoulders slumping.

"Oh come on Yukio how long do I have to keep doing this?"

"You're gonna keep doing it until you learn how to control your flames better."

He let out another groan and glanced at me," Hey why doesn't he have to train?"

"He has been, he's been working with Sir Pheles since you killed Amaimon-"

I growled lowly.

Rin blinked," Oh…ok….How's that been going Ryuu, I haven't seen you for a while."

"…fine."

He frowned as I looked away, swallowing thickly as I thought of something else. I had to get a handle on this!

He sighed and looked back at his brother," Are you cool with this? Sitting around while there's a demon to hunt?"

"No you're right, I rather be out there looking for the Gufu. But I've been ordered to keep an eye on you two so I don't really have a choice."

"Well then…" Rin grabbed his brothers shoulder," Let's bail and go hunting! Come on!"

He smacked Rin's hand away," Could you be serious for once!? You're running out of time here Rin! If you think everything's going to go your way like it always has, then you nee-"

Yukio suddenly groaned in pain. I narrowed my eyes, noticing the sweat on his forward. Something was wrong… I tensed and sat straight. Rin asking what was wrong but Yukio waved him off.

"Yukio." He turned to me," I think it'd be best if I escorted you to the infirmary."

"No, stay here, I can go myself."

"But Yukio-"

"I said I'm fine. Just make sure Rin keeps training", he stated before walking out of the room.

My frown deepened and I was about to follow him when I heard Rin trying to jump out of the broken window. I grabbed him by his tail and yanked him down.

"Hey! What was that for!?"

"You heard Yukio, keep training."

"Oh cut the crap! I gotta go help find that demon!"

I growled and bared my fangs at him," No way in hell. Finish your candles."

He glared at me and I glared right back.

However I heard quiet footsteps outside in the hall. I tensed, turning and standing in front of Rin.

"The hell Ryuu-"

I growled at him to shut up, eyes going gold.

Konekomaru stepped into the classroom. His head was down. All I could sense was fear and power from him.

"Oh hey Koneko…maru….."

Rin saw the same thing I did. Over the left shoulder of the young exwire was the Gufu. I hissed lowly, crouching down. Rin gulped but didn't stop me as he drew his sword. The blue flames flared behind me.

Konekomaru slowly looked up at us and we approached. He screamed bloody murder. I darted forward but he ran out of the classroom. A growl rumbled in my chest and I leapt after him.

Bon, Shima, and Yukio came running out of the bathroom, seeing me with a strong grip on Konekomaru's ankles.

"Hey let him go!"

Bon kicked me in the face. I released the cursed boy, allowing Shima to grab him.

"What the hell is going on!?"

Konekomaru panted," I-I don't know they just attacked me!"

I slowly stood, head down in challenge as Rin stepped out of the classroom. He still had his sword drawn, the flames as clear as day.

"Watch out you guys, get away from him, he's dangerous!"

Bon scowled," You dumbasses! You two are the only dangerous ones around here!"

I narrowed my eyes. The Gufu had made itself visible on Kone's shoulder. It laughed at Rin and I, mocking us. Apparently we were the only ones how could see it.

"Damnit…Don't laugh at me!"

Rin ran forward, going to strike the demon down. Bon took Shima's staff and blocked the attack.

"Okumura…what are you doing!?"

"What does it look like!? I'm going to slash its ass!"

"Rin", Yukio called as he aimed at him. "Stand down and get away from him."

Rin looked at his twin in disbelief as I approached him from behind," Why are you pointing that gun at me!?"

I pointed at Konekomaru," There's the real danger."

The demon laughed at us, claws in deep. Rin scowled, swinging his sword while yelling at him to leave the boy alone. Bon pushed Kone down right before the flames could touch him. Rin looked shocked and disgusted.

I narrowed my eyes. This was a tricky one.

Yukio slammed his twin against the wall," What are you doing!? Control yourself! If you go on another rampage their gonn-"

He was yanked away by Bon. I wrapped my tail around his wrist before his fist could make contact with Rin's face. He gl;ared at both of us.

"Damnit are you blind or something!? I was going after the demon!"

"Kone? Kone!"

I sighed and slowly released Bon, walking towards them," You idiots can sense it but Rin and I can. Konekomaru has made a pact with a demon."

Konekomaru was out cold but seemingly ok. That demon would be hard to detach-

I was slammed against the wall by Bon," Don't give me that! He hates demons, he would never do something like that!"

"Do you really know him?" I blinked at him," It's obvious what he's done. It can happen to many people when they're weak."

He scowled and shoved me towards Rin," …get out of here."

My tail whipped around and settled around my waist. They were all watching Rin and I as if we were the true dangers.

"….let's go Rin. It's their loss if they don't believe us…"

"But Ryuu we can't just-"

"We can and we will."

"…."

From behind us Yukio narrowed his eyes, watching as I left with the Son of Satan.

"Hey…..Ryuu…"

"Hm?"

"….what's wrong with us?"

I narrowed my eyes," Nothing….don't listen to Bon. We did what we thought right just like he did what he thought was right. We can't blame them."

"…ya I guess. I just…..we could kill people on accident."

"Humans kill humans, humans kill demons, demons kill humans. It doesn't matter what we are, it just happens."

He nodded slowly while we looked up at the darkening sky.

I sat up abruptly, sensing the Gufu nearby.

"Ryuu-?"

The demon landed with a screech and rushed us both. I darted out of the way and Rin flipped back off the top of the shack.

The Gufu snarled, using the darkness to its advantage.

"It's you", Rin stated.

The Gufu screeched again before flying at Rin. It tackled him, both going over the edge. I scowled, jumping off the building after him. My wings shredded my shirt and I landed right before the two demons slammed into the ground with a loud crack, pavement shattering. The Gufu jumped away from Rin, giving him space.

"Die demonic spawns!"

He threw feathers, the ends sharp and ready to pierce it's victim. I got in front of Rin, wigs up. I cried out in pain as the feathers ripped through my right wing, Rin barely catching me as I fell to my knees.

The Gufu created a wind barrier, keeping everyone else out. The demon laughed in victory, Rin and I watching uneasily. My wings folded and disappeared under my shoulder blades once again.

"I have been reborn for one purpose! To rid this world of the son of Satan and Lucifer!"

He barreled forward, throwing me against the barrier and grabbing Rin by his skull.

"Now Demon, I'm going to snap that neck of yours", he stated as he lifted Rin up.

I snarled, jumping onto the demons back. I dug my fangs deep into his shoulder, earning a loud cry of pain as he released Rin. He turned his attention to me, trying to get me off of his back so he could snap my own neck.

All I knew is that Gufu and Konekomaru were having an internal battle. There was still good inside of Kone and he was regretting the fact that he ever made a pact with the demon. He wanted out, to save his friends, without killed me or Rin.

I was slammed back into the barrier repeatedly; the winds ripping the skin of my back to shreds. Roaring in pain I released him, the Gufu holding me up by my tail.

"RYUU!"

Rin nearly drew his sword, but then he remembered the human inside. He couldn't risk hurting Konekomaru.

"….cut the crap." Kone looked at Rin, "We don't want this. I never asked to be the son of Satan!"

His flames came on anyway, tossing his sword to the side.

"Konekomaru", I said, drawing his attention to me. "If you want to be afraid of us we can't blame you. Just know, we would never ever hurt those we call our friends."

"Ya…and the thing is, what were you thinking, trusting this demon!? That's what we're for! Your friends got your back not that thing!"

I was dropped, my blood splattering all over the pavement. The demon flew up," No! I won't let you go! You belong to me!"

I glanced at Rin and he nodded. My wings burst back out through the tender flesh of my back and I darted after the demon. My tail wrapped around the demons head and I clung to it, grabbing Konekomaru by his shoulders.

Below me Rin drew his sword, unleashing his full power," Konekomaru trust us!"

He looked at me, fear evident before he swallowed and nodded. I grinned, holding him to me and ripped him right out of the demon, tossing the Gufu towards Rin. He jumped up, slamming his sword clean through it. The Gufu letting out a defeated cry before swirling into nothing.

I landed roughly, setting Konekomaru on the ground before collapsing. Rin landed beside me, grabbing my shoulders. My wings dropped as he eased us down to our knees. I was trembling; exhausted and out of energy.

Yukio ran over to us, supporting me to give Rin a chance to put his sword away," Are you ok!?"

I nodded weakly," Ya…"

"I'm good", Rin groaned. "No big deal."

"Okumura….Hamato…"

Rin and I turned to look at Konekomaru. He looked so guilty and started to cry, "I-I'm sorry I tried to….I-I'm so sorry…"

I smiled weakly, my wings retreating," I-it's ok man…."

Rin nodded," No hard feelings Konekomaru…."

"…although I'm still confused to how the demon got through the barrier in the first place."

I paused, my hand on the doorknob. I had been taken to the hospital until my back had healed up. Yukio had told me to return to Mephisto right after. But it seems that there was a meeting going on so I listened closely.

"Well the only way it could is if someone used a key to open a doorway", Shura stated. "Pretty obvious really."

"Then the situation is worse than I thought. Only a select few are allowed the use of my keys so now I'm really concerned."

"Me and Tsubaki found the doorway in a parking lot in town. I went through it and found a torched research lab in this big forest."

"That's suspicious."

Well said Yukio. I furrowed my eyebrows. A lab in a snowing forest….wait, she didn't mention snow….did she? I gripped my head, a headache throbbing. Did I know something…?

"Uh huh", Shura agreed. "And it wasn't your typical research lab either. They were experimenting with artificial life out there. Something that the Vatican outlawed for the last three centuries."

I tensed. No…it couldn't be.

"Really", Mephisto asked, obviously intrigued. "Now that is intriguing. We should open up an investigation into it immediately. But in the meanwhile, Ryuu do come join us instead of listening outside the door."

I sighed, opening the door and walking inside," I didn't want to interrupt."

Shura smirked," You look like shit kid."

I rolled my eyes.

"It's quite alright, I believe we're finished", Mephisto stated.

Yukio and Shura took the hint, taking their leave. I sighed tiredly, sitting in the chair I had claimed as my own in my time of being in his office so much.

"So, Ryuu, I heard what you did tonight. I am surprised that you actually worked with Rin."

I raised my eyebrow," Why…?"

"Well he did defeat my brother after all."

I tensed, making the demon chuckle. But that's when I noticed something on Mephistos desk. It was tiny and green, with a familiar hair spike on it's head.

"It can't be", I sat up slowly.

"I thought it best to keep my brother where I can keep an eye on him."

My mouth went dry as I stared at the little hamster. It crawled up to the end of the desk, tilting its little head," Hello Ryuu."

Hey guys! Yes it's another update~~~! I'm just as happy as you guys are. Things are getting along perfectly just like I imagined- no, BETTER than what I imagined. I may or may not have the next chapter out TONIGHT. So stay tuned and let's see if I can make it!
