Derek's POV
It was 7:14 PM, and I had my ear pressed up to the door leading out of my hotel room.
I was listening for Casey's footsteps.
I knew she was going somewhere with that kid she met yesterday, and since I am her brother, I think I should know what is going on in her life at all times.
After I heard her walk down the stairs, I grabbed my coat and headed out the door. But before I left, I looked over at Edwin. He was sitting in the same place I had seen him earlier, still watching his James Bond marathon. I shook my head in disbelief and headed after Casey.
After following her for a while, she finally walked into a restaurant called "Hausmannskost", which means "Home Cooked Food" in German. She went in, and I followed. She sat at a table.
And there was the kid.
He stood up and gave her a hug. She giggled and removed her long coat.
Underneath was a beautiful red dress that complimented her body wonderfully.
I think the kid's and my own mouth dropped open simultaneously. I didn't know Casey owned a dress that gorgeous.
And she wore it for him.
I went and sat a few tables away, covering my face with the menu so Casey wouldn't recognize me.
After the waitress got Casey and Oskar's order, she walked over to me.
"Hi. I'm Milla, and I will be your waitress today. What can I get for you?" She said perkily.
"Just some hot cocoa and a chocolate muffin," I said, my eyes still glued on Casey and Oskar.
I devoured my muffin and cocoa in about three minutes, but Casey and Oskar took an hour and a half to eat. And all they did was talk and laugh. How boring is that? If this were a date between Casey and I, we would be outside making out by now.
After a very long night, Oskar and Casey finally got up and walked outside. I followed quietly.
Once they were outside, they walked to the lobby. I could hear Casey laugh and Oskar put his arm around her.
Gross.
When they reached the lobby, I heard Oskar mumble something about having to go back to work. Casey smiled and nodded her head. Then, Oskar closed his eyes and leaned in to kiss her.
I can't believe this is happening.
I couldn't watch this. I covered my eyes with my hands and started walking away from them.
After a few minutes, I uncovered my eyes. Oskar was no longer there and Casey had started walking to the cabin.
I kept following her.
When we reached the turn to head to our cabin, Casey made a left turn instead of a right.
The right turn headed to the cabin, and the left headed to the woods surrounding the resort.
I didn't know where she was going or what she was doing. But I knew I had to follow her. I needed to make sure she didn't get hurt.
She made some crazy turns along the way. She had been walking (and I had been closely following) for about ten minutes when she finally stopped. She walked behind a few trees, and I followed.
It took me a while to spot her, but she finally appeared leaning up against a tall tree stump. Her back was to me, but I soon noticed what she was looking at. In front of Casey, there was a beautiful pond. There was snow covering every inch, and the water was perfectly frozen and gorgeous. My mouth dropped open.
I knew I was being an immaculate spy, but I just had to talk to Casey. I couldn't help it any longer.
I walked up slowly towards her. It was dark outside and there was only one streetlamp lighting up the night. It took me a while to find her, considering I could only see two feet in front of me.
I was about a yard behind her when I spoke up. "Casey," I said quietly.
She turned toward me. "Derek, what a surprise."
"Look, Casey, about that Oskar guy, I think he-"
I was trying to talk but got interrupted by Casey's laugh.
"Derek," she said in between giggles. "I know what you've been doing tonight."
"What?" I asked.
"I know you've been spying on me and Oskar all night," she said with a smile on her face.
But she knew? How?! How could she have known about Derek Venturi, the greatest spy of all time?
"Y-y-you knew?" I asked in disbelief.
"Derek, it wasn't that hard to figure out. I mean, you sat like three tables away at dinner. How could I not see you?" She laughed again.
I don't think I have ever been so shocked in my life.
"Casey, why did you go out with that dude? I thought we were like...together...or something," I said. I could feel my face turning red.
"Derek, that's the first time you've said that to me."
"Huh?" I asked. What was she talking about?
"I did this whole thing just to make you realize that. We are together," she said ever so calmly.
"But, you kissed him."
She laughed. "I didn't kiss him, Derek. He tried, but he didn't succeed, if you know what I mean."
"But why did you do all this? Do you realize how aggravated this made me? I just want to punch that guy."
"Derek, do you like me more than you did before?" That took some thought.
I knew I liked Casey. Like...a lot. But I didn't realize I would turn into such a jealous kid when Casey get close to someone else.
"I like you the same, but I'm now much more aware." I said quietly.
She giggled. "Do you really think I would pick a guy I met yesterday over such a wonderful guy like you?" she asked all smug.
I just shrugged bashfully.
I reached for her hand and held it. "You planned a whole date just to do that?" I asked.
"Well, it wasn't really that hard. I knew you would follow us."
"You did?" I asked.
"You're crazy when you're jealous," she said with a wink.
I shook my head in shock. Casey knew more about me than I did.
"Casey, you are nuts," I said, smiling.
"I'm only nuts for you," she said. I couldn't stand it. I leaned down and kissed her.
I reached for the buttons on her coat and took it off. "You look so beautiful," I said. I stared at her red dress.
She kissed me and wrapped her hands around my neck.
My hands moved down her back.
And we stayed there, at the pond, until 2:43 AM. We made out some more, played in the snow, and just talked.
It was one of the best nights of my life.
And it was that moment that I realized that I had nothing to worry about.
Writer's Note:
Just so you all know, this story is set BEFORE Simon was born. Sorry for not writing in forever. School has been crazy with finals and stuff, but now it's Summer and I can write more :) Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed this chapter!
