Chapter 11. The jealousy disruption.
Amy had been feeling beyond sadness this last five days. Sheldon had not communicated once since their last skype call. He hadn´t even sent her an informative e-mail, as she requested.
Obviously he had decided to keep going with his ten day quarantine . It didn´t really surprised her. But she was surprised by her feelings about it. She had told Sheldon that it was up to him. He decided to stay away from her. She had promised him to respect his decision, she had assured him that there was going to be no retaliation if he decided he wasn´t ready to be with her intimately.
Amy had thought she was strong enough to accept his decision, after all, she had been all patience and understanding and she knew better than expect him to act like a hippie. She hadn´t expect to feel like this, actually drowning in a powerful mix of feelings: rejection, anger, frustration, self pity. She had barely been able to keep going with her daily routine. For the first time in her life she had been going to her lab without the smallest amount of enthusiasm. She felt drained of every once of it. Now she realized that very deep inside she had really hoped that he would come to her. It was really silly of her to have expected for him to overcome his fears and admit his own desires and needs. But she had, and the fact that it didn´t happen was literally, killing her.
Amy was crossing days as passed, waiting for the moment when she could finally call him. Maybe he was doing well with his kolinahr and all his strategies and she would really get to see him in another five days. Five days, they looked like five years to her. Every day after work , she had been watching very romantic movies and crying herself out until she was exhausted and wanted nothing but sleep.
As she crossed day five, she reckoned she was feeling in no mood for more weeping. Maybe she could go out for a stroll at the park, or the zoo. No, she couldn´t take it without him. The sight of their beloved monkeys and koalas would be unbearable without Sheldon by her side. She really missed him. She had even thought that if he were going tell her that they would never get intimate, she would take it without hesitation. His company, their shared moments, even when they were in silence for hours, made her feel complete, she felt like they were like two puzzle pieces, they matched, they were meant together. That was definitely more important than satisfying her baser urges. She could live without satisfying them, but she couldn´t live without Sheldon. Not anymore. And she was sure he wanted her. Maybe, just now he wasn´t ready for a full relationship. Still, somehow, she was sure that he would be some day, maybe sooner than later, and she would be patient with him. He was worth it. They were worth it.
Emboldened by her thoughts and feeling lighter than ever, Amy decided to go out for a little stroll. She started thinking that it would be a good idea to give Sheldon a little present once he would show up again, just to reassure him, in case he doubted her, that she really meant it by telling him she would accept his decision. She wanted for Sheldon to feel sure that they were all right.
Amy thought first about getting him a new toy train, but she would have to drive to the store. She remembered then that the comic book store was near enough her apartment for a pleasant stroll so she decided she would get him some action figure or comic books. After all, he went there every week and Stuart would be able to tell her what to buy. That was a terrific idea, she thought, brightening.
Feeling much happier than lately, Amy decided she would wear a light green dress, a cardigan and simple flats. The afternoon was nicely arm so she wouldn´t wear tights. Amy brushed her hair, applied some gloss to her lips and smiled at her face in the mirror. Everything was going to be okay, she felt a pang in her chest when she thought of Sheldon again, she missed him so much, but tried bravely to cheer up again. The though of going at the comic store made her happier, it was, somehow, like being a little near to him. She sighed and thought that she may get a date with a psychologist, with a smile she took her purse and left the apartment.
Amy entered the comic book store and puffed out her chest in pride when she noticed every male in the room watching her, mouth wide. She knew they would gape at a broom with skirt, but still, it was rather titillating having men watching her, as it was higgly unusual. Not even her boyfriend watcher her ever like that. She brushed aside that last depressive thought, and directed her steps to the counter.
Stuart was there, glaring at the other men in the room and advising them to stop oggling her. Then he turned to her and greeted her.
-"Hello Amy, this is really unexpected. What brings you here?. He smiled warmly at her. Stuart was a great guy and not entirely bad looking.
Suddenly she found herself thinking that had she not been so in love with his boyfriend, she may have been tempted to try something with the comic book store owner.
Stuart had never hid his regard for Amy, for Sheldon´s utter mortification, although, of course, he had never admitted he was jealous, stating that it was merely repellent to him that someone so short minded like Stuart pretended to pair bond with someone as brilliant as herself.—Yes, jealous, sure, maybe territorial would be more accurate, but you are not exactly interested in pair bonding with me, not physically at least –thought bitterly Amy. She brushed aside that thought, reminded herself that she was determined to be patient with Sheldon.
-"Hello, Stuart. I am glad to see you. I was hopping you could help me choosing some action figure or an interesting comic book"—Amy smiled back at him—"as you know, I am not expert and I need something really special".
Stuart laughed softly then—" You have come to appreciate the good literature after all?"—Winking at her he leaned over the counter so only her could listen what he was saying—"Sheldon has been rubbing on you hasn´t he?—there was a playful spark in his eyes.
Amy´s cheeks reddened instantly to her utter mortification. She gasped and glared at Stuart—"Now, now, Stuart. I don´t appreciate your pun and find myself baffled at how daring you are. Now stop teasing me and help me find some nice item please"—She could feel her cheeks burning hot but forced herself to maintain her eyes on his. She was not a teenager, after all.
Stuart´s smile faded immediately and he straightened himself, red in the face—"I am sorry Amy, you are right…let´s forget my bad joke okay?—She nodded eagerly, he was not a bad boy.
Stuart smiled, relieved and came back to the topic—"Well, Amy, I need more information, so I can help you choose properly. What kind of thing are you looking for?"—He leaned over the counter, relaxing.
Amy smiled back and explained to him—"Okay, here´s the situation. I haven´t seen Sheldon for some time, and we will be meeting each other in some days, so I want something for him, something special. You must know what he wants or what he might like, he comes here every week after all"—She winked at him, hoping he would understand—"You know, the kind of thing that would put him over the proverbial "hills".
Stuart just gaped at her, in a rather uncomfortably way. He sighed—"Well, I must say that Sheldon is such a lucky man"—He smiled at her again, and continued as if he had just said nothing important—"you are in luck, milady, for yesterday just arrived something Sheldon has been waiting for"—He furrowed his eyebrows and tilted his head—" As a matter of fact, I am surprised he hasn´t come to get it. He never forgets about delivering dates".
Of course Amy knew why Sheldon hadn´t come to get his new toy, but she wasn´t going to tell Stuart about it. She felt giddy thinking that she would hand him over something he had been waiting for anxiously—"Perfect. That will do it nicely"—She didn´t even asked the price. Her savings account was considerable given that she had always been very careful about her money, but that didn´t apply here—"Could you gift-wrapping it, please?".
He laughed loudly at this—"Well, Amy I am afraid I don´t have wrappers nor boxes, normally the guys buy this things for themselves and not as a gift for anyone. Now that I come to this, I am sure you are the first girl ever coming here to buy something for her boyfriend. I should have your signature in my wall, really"—He pointed at the wall behind him. The VIP wall—"but wait, I reckon you could put it inside one of this wooden boxes, encarved in elvish, that I received last week. He would like it too"—He took the box from down the counter.
Amy couldn´t help but laugh with him. He was really funny. Plus, she felt giddy every time someone mentioned that Sheldon was her boyfriend. She leaned over the counter and took the wooden box. It was beautiful. Even she liked it, although she didn´t understand a single sign carved in it. She ran a hand over the edge and felt a sudden pain in the tip of her finger—"woah, I think I cut myself,…"—Stuart reached for her hand and watched her finger.
-"Oh, don´t worry, I think it didn't cut the skin, it´s just a little scratch"—She sighed in relieve and tried to retrieve her hand to look at it herself when it happened.

Day One.
Sheldon was doing reasonably well working on his kolinahr and his diet regime, specifically designed to soothe him. Nothing too spicy, so he had to forget about thai and pizza night, all because he found out in internet that too spicy goods and meat stimulates the libido, so his diet was mostly vegetarian, not Brusella´s sprouts though, he didn´t want to go back there. He tried to work on his whiteboard but to no avail, so he finally give up and practiced some kolinahr again before sleeping time. No extra showers needed.
Day Two.
Videogames were helpful. Sheldon resorted to them once the whiteboard had become nothing more than a white screen where he started imagining nothing but the utmost naughty scenarios, all of them involving Amy in a wide variety of outfits and attitudes, and inevitably leading to a rather dirty end. Sadly, he couldn´t stand it and finished taking an emergency shower before lunch time, relieving session included. Shame on him. The smurfs video game worked nicely, and so did his old friend Mario. He attempted more kolinahr again before turning in and apparently it worked since he didn´t have nightmares and could reach a good REM spleeping.
Day Three.
He devoured a huge pile of comic books which Leonard had brought him on Sunday, after he explained to him his schedule for the next ten days. He had been able to focus on them and stayed away from his whiteboard, he would only be remembering what he had imagined on it. He tried kolinahr in order to contain himself, but apparently it wasn´t working that well today. He tried again video games, but he kept losing again and again. Finally he had dinner, had a soothing bath and recited the periodic table all the while and during his preparations for bed and until he fell sleep. Miraculously he hadn´t dreamed of Amy that night.
Day four.
Sheldon had a Star Trek Old Generation marathon. He thought it was successful until he doze off and found himself dreaming of Amy in her medical officer uniform, searching his body in a much less innocent way than she had done in reality. Most shamefully he had had a relieving session right there on the couch. He blamed it on his half unconscious state and the aggressiveness that his dreamed Amy had shown to him. He had to take a shower, change his clothes, disinfect his spot and severely scolded himself for watching Star Trek. That had been really foolish of him. He practiced kolinahr in an unequivocally state of anguish, which didn´t help in the slightest, he finally gave up and, really exhausted went to bed.
Day five.
This had to be hell. Sheldon had been unable to focus on anything, not a single moment. He tried very hard reading his comic books again, but it had proven impossible. He pictured Amy in every single woman in the comic books, and he kept fantasizing about new story developments, none of them innocent at all. He tried videogames, and not even smurfs could keep him from thinking of Amy. Kolinahr was useless now. He tried very hard but when he finally got his mind blank it was only a matter of minutes before that blank space was slowly invaded by Amy, her smile, her eyes, her bare shoulders, and finally his mind was invaded by her words: "I want to be with you Sheldon"…" I will be ready". A delicious yet horrifying shiver shot through his spine like a bolt of light and he jumped violently.
Sheldon felt desperate, there had to be something to get Amy out of his mind. He was just in the middle of the quarantine, he couldn´t loose his mind now. Maybe he needed more comic books. He called Leonard but his roommate made very clear that he was in the middle of a very important experiment that would keep him busy until late that night. Leonard suggested him to buy comic books on line and have the items delivered the next day, after all, that was hardly an emergency. That was too much for Sheldon, who hung up without further word to his tiny roommate, huffed and muttered to himself about Leonard being delusional about the importance of his own work.
The problem remained that he needed some new comic books, without female characters, thank you. He thought he had better eat, put his bus pants on and head for the comic book store.
Sheldon was in a right mood when he walked through the comic book store door. The bus ride had been hell. The driver had been rude to him, he had been forced to sit next to an elder woman who kept coughing and sneezing all the time. He had been about to throw himself out of the window more than once. He would have to take a shower and start a preventive course of antibiotics the second he was back home. -Nothing could make it get worse –He thought bitterly while walking in the store and glaring around, he had a good idea about what he wanted, so it should be an easy and fast endeavor. That proved wrong the next second though, just as his eyes fell over the sight of two people talking over the counter.
The man was Stuart, the comic book store owner, so nothing extraordinary there. He was talking and gesturing animatedly. Sheldon was not good at facial expressions, but even he could tell that Stuart face showed interest and happiness as he kept going on with his jibber jabber. His companion was currently laughing and leaning over the counter while taking something Stuart was offering to her. He saw her brown, sleek hair falling over her green cardigan. When she leaned over the counter, the hem of her dress raised slightly, showing some white, creamy skin, just above her knees and her nude calves. She was not wearing her customary black closed flat shoes, but a pair of comfortable but feminine flats.
Sheldon stood there, frozen . She laughed again as if she was having the time of her life with that foul-minded, girlfriend stealing piece of crap. As in slow motion he saw Stuart raising his hand to take hers and leaning over the counter towards her while he kept smiling in that stupid, goofy-like manner. He had always hated goofy. Damned him, he was not going to take this nonsense for one more second. He felt his blood boiling and in two long steps he was right beside her.
-"What exactly do you think you are doing letting this man touch you, Amy Farrah Fowler?"—His voice was silky and grave, one he had never used before with her… or anyone for that matter. He didn´t even know he could talk like that, without even raising his voice, but dripping contentment and danger.
Amy jumped violently, snatching her hand from Stuart´s as if he had burned her. She dropped the wooden box over the counter, barely registering the loud thud it made and turned to face Sheldon with eyes wide as saucers and her cheeks flaming red again.
Sheldon felt bitterly satisfied to see her reaction. Afraid she must be-he thought. Well, he would come back to her later, now he had to make sure Stuart received a very important message. He turned to face his new target.
-"Stuart, I thought I had made myself clear before when I told you I found the notion of you being near my girlfriend "—Sheldon emphasized the last two words with a menacing glare at the shocked Stuart—"not to mention touching her, repellent"—He raised to his full height and crossed his arms on his chest, contemptuously.
—"I must warn you, If I ever see you again touching the very tip of her finger, you shall know the full extent of my wrath"—Sheldon leaned menacingly over the counter and growled—"And you know I am from Texas… need I say more?"—He raised his eyebrows in a defiantly manner.
Stuart merely gaped at him open mouthed and nodded feebly while stammering some jibber-jabber he didn´t pay attention to.
Sheldon turned to face Amy, who apparently had lost her ability to talk and just stood there, watching him as if he was some kind of alien who had just told her he was kidnapping her to mars. Without second thoughts he grabbed her by the arm and literally dragged her out of the comic book store.
Wow, I don´t know about you guys, but I just love this "macho" Sheldon, I am sure we would see more of him in the show, because he has it in him, he has shown us before how possessive he can be, go get her cowboy!
