I'm back again with another chapter. So on with the story.

Lose to Win

Last time, "I'll be right back with some coffee."

"Shadow!"

"What are you two doing here?"

"She's not your daughter."

"Yes she is, as I recall I'm the one who helped conceive her."

"Will you both stop it! You to are making a seen."

"..."

"Shadow, please-"

"Leave. The two of you have no reason to be here."

"Shadow please, she's much as our daughter as she is yours."

"Why won't you let that go?"

"BECAUSE I WAS IN LOVE WITH YOU!"

"Shadow, what am I supposed to say?"

"Nothing, there is nothing to be said. You already choose who you wanted to be with."

"You're still mad about that? After all these years."

"Then what do you want Shadow?"

"What I want. . . What I want, is my life back."

"I needed someone who would take responsibility and forget all knowledge and common sense, to take care of me, my bab-"

"Don't you dare say baby. You don't have that right."

"How can you tell me what my rights are? She isn't even your child."

"I raised her since the day you left her a my door, by myself."

"...try to help her get better because the two of you bastards made a irresponsible decision to smoke around Avory. So the doctors diagnosed her with pneumonia."

"Me and Jay never smoked around Avory."

"Shadow I came back with the coffee, you won't belie- Maria?"

"I just came back into town a couple of weeks ago."

"Mom I don't think that's necessary."

"Um. . . Shadow is right, I still have things to unpack."

"Hey mom, what if I was to tell you Avroy isn't my daughter?"

"...we sat down a had a chat and her asked me if I wanted to go out on a date and I said yes."

"...dad just died 6 months ago and its weird."

"The Hedgehog family."

"Your daughter, Avory, is cured of pneumonia, but just in case something happens the doctor wants you to bring her back once every week until the end of the month so we can check up on how she is progressing."

"Did you hear the ma my little girl is all better."

Normal POV

A Week Later

With Shadow

Amy's House

Shadow is walking up to the Rose door, with his daughter, Avory, behind him. Avory is a 4 year old hedgelette with red fur and blonde tips on her ears, blue eyes and a small, cute mole by her left eye. She was wearing short, dark brown, baggy shorts and a loud Orange shirt, with a pair of black Tom's. Her hair is in long pigtails, that was a little messed up from the ride in Shadow's car, he traded in his motorcycle last week.

He was about to knock on the door when he hears a loud noise from inside the house. It sounds like someone had fell down the stairs. Shadow knocks on the door three times.

He hears foot steps running towards the door and it swings open. "Hey Shadow." It is Amy in a baggy green shirt that went down a little bit higher than mid-thigh and a pair of white high waisted shorts. Her hair in a pony tail that was slightly messed up.

"Hey."

They stare at each other for a few moments.

Shadow opens his mouth, "Are you going to let me in?"

She rubs her forehead and steps out of the way, "Yeah sure."

Shadow grabs Avory's hand and walks inside as Amy shuts the door. Shadow told Avory to seat on the couch.

Amy looks at him in wonder, "Um... What are you doing here Shadow?"

"You called me in the middle of the night screaming." He said his brows up in confusion.

Amy looks off, have a quick flashback of last night.

"And I also came to do our project." When he didn't get a reply he call out her name. "Amy."

"..." She didn't answer.

"Amy."

"..."

"Amy!" His voice raises a little.

Amy jumps and looks over at Shadow, "What?"

He looks her in the eyes, "I'm worried about you."

She blushes, "Oh... Um, okay." She looks over a the little girl, "Who is this?"

Shadow makes a motion for Avory to come to him, "This is my daughter."

Amy took a small step back, "Your, your... daughter?!"

Shadow nods, "Yeah. Go introduce yourself."

The girl walks up to Amy, "Hi, I'm Avory. It's nice to meet you."

Amy squats down, "It's nice to me you too, I'm Amy."

Avory looks Amy in the eyes, "How do you know my daddy?" She said, with her head tilted and her big, adorable, blue eyes filled with curiosity.

Amy smiles, "Well, me and your daddy go to the same school."

Avory looks down with sad, droopy eyes, "I don't do to school."

One of Amy's eyebrows went up, "Why not?"

"I was sick." Avory pouts.

Shadow looks at the two with a smile, "Amy can she watch T.V.?"

Amy stands up, "Sure." She looks down a the girl, "What do you want to watch?"

"Dora the Explorer!" Avory yells in excitement.

Amy takes Avory to the couch and turns on the T.V. on Nick Jr.

"Amy." Amy looks toward Shadow.

"What?" She asks.

"Can I talk to you for a moment?" He ask with his hands in his pocket.

"Sure." Amy looks back at Avory, "Let's go to the kitchen."

They both towards the kitchen. Amy opens the refrigerator and Shadow stood in front of the island with his finger crossed as he watched. Amy turns her head towards Shadow, "Do you want some thing to drink?" She held a jug of water in her hands.

"No, I'm good." He answers.

"Oh... okay." Amy places the jug back in the refrigerator. The pink headed hedgehog walks around the kitchen island and stands across from the dark hedgehog.

The two stares at each other for a while. The room was so quite you could hear the drops of water from the faucet and Avory in the background counting along with Dora. Amy claps her hands awkwardly, ending the dead silence, "So... What did you want to talk to me about?"

"Amy." Shadow says watching her.

She places the cup down on the counter, "Huh?"

"What happened yesterday?" He asks.

One of Amy's eyebrows flared up in confusion, "What you mean?"

With a sigh Shadow says, "After coming home from the hospital, I heard a knock on the door. So I get up to answer the door and no one it there. I stood there for a few seconds, then something caught my attention. This picture was taped to my door." Shadow takes the picture from out of his pocket and hands it to her.

Amy's POV

I can't say anything. Who would give this picture to Shadow? Why would they do that? They must've thought that Shadow would be mad or something. I mean, it's quite obvious that some jealous girl sent this to him... but why? It's not like I like him or anything.

Right?

Even if I did, does Shadow even like me in that type of way?

"Amy?" It's Shadow's voice.

I look up at Shadow, "Yeah."

Shadow looks me in the eye from around the island, "Are you ok?"

I smile, "Yeah, but... um are you okay?"

Shadow shrugs his shoulders, "Yeah, why would anything on that picture effect me." A flash of jealousy when across his face for split second, before it was gone. Almost making me believe that it wasn't there. Shadow crosses his arms. His face held wonder all over it. "But with that bein' said, why would they send this picture to me?"

"I don't know," I said with an uncaring tone. "but let's just drop it for now and get started with our project." I walk from out of the kitchen and start to walk up the stairs. I can hear Shadow telling his daughter to follow him as I was halfway up the stairs. I open the door to my room and take a seat at my computer desk. Shadow walks in with his daughter holding his hand. They walks over to my bed and takes a seat.

I reach into my bookbag on top of the desk and pulls out my English notebook and a blue gel pen. I flip through the pages until I see the notes on our project. I stand up and sit Indian-style in my chair, the place the notebook on my left thigh. "Do you have any new info. for the project or ideas." I ask him looking up from my notebook.

Shadow was taking off his daughter shoes when I asked him, "Well, I have a different," He places Avory's shoes on the side of my bed, "approach. How about we do a video?" Shadow said flicking off his shoes and starts to lay down on my bed.

I put the pen to my lips, "Yeah, but what are we gonna shoot?" I asks him as the little hedgehog lays her head down on Shadow's stomach.

Shadow put his arms behind his head and looks up at the ceiling, "How about tomorrow we go around town and ask people in the streets and the stores about their views on life. Then record what we see."

I rest my head on my hand and nod, "That seems like a good plan."

Shadow hums his approval.

I stare as his little girl nods off to sleep on his stomach, listening to Shadow's heart beat. I can't believe he has a kid. Just imagine having this type of responsibility at such a young age.

"Shadow?"

"Huh." He answers with his eyes closed.

"Where is her mom?"

"For all I care I hope she's far away from here." His voice held gallons of venom and hatred.

"Oh." I tap my pen against the arm of my computer chair.

It was a long silence between us, you could only here the small snores of Avory. I wonder if I made him mad. I don't want him to be mad at me.

"I didn't mean to make this awkward, it's just that her mom lied to me. Thursday, well...yesterday, Avory was in the hospital and her mom came to see her and she made me mad." Shadow practical growls.

"Oh?" I didn't have anything else to say. Have am I suppose to comfort him.

"I mean, she came from out of no where and thinks she has the right to call Avory her daughter." He sneers.

I uncross my legs, "Well, Avory is her daughter."

Shadow glares at me, but then stops and let out a heavy sigh, "I know, but she left Avory on my door steps, after tell me that she wasn't my baby girl."

My jaw dropped to the floor, "Why would she do that?"

He shrug his shoulders, "She said that she wanted someone to stick around and take care of her while she was pregnant."

I cross my arms under my chest, "I would've hit her."

Shadow lets out a dry laugh, "The killing thing was that she said "no hard feelings". Who the hell say some bull like that."

I laugh, "Oh my God!" I'm holding my stomach in pain as I laugh even louder.

Shadow chuckles, "When I think about it, the whole situation was kind of funny."

I wipe the tears that came down from my face as I was laughing, "I wouldn't say that." I look him in the eyes, "That was wrong; what she had did to you."

Shadow shrugs, "I knew it from the start, but I got pulled it to her trap." He sighs, "I had thought that we would work things out when she had the baby. So I came into the her room and saw Avory, I knew she wasn't my daughter from the moment I set eyes on her. I looked at Maria and all she said was that not to take this the wrong way. And then ask if we can still be friends." Shadow closes his eyes.

"Her name was Maria?" I asks, feeling a littl e stupid.

"Yeah."

I was about to ask another question when the front door opens and slams shut.

"Amy!"

It was my mother.
