District 6
Alexis Greenleaf POV
It is 7:00 when my alarm goes off, but I had been awake all night. I get out of bed and go to take a quick shower. When I get out and dry my hair it is 7:15. I get dressed in the faded pink skirt and white shirt I laid out the night before and get my mothers old pink flower broach and pin it above my left breast. I think about make up but decide against it. Why should I cover up my scars, they are a part of me. Instead I comb my brown hair that I haven't cut for a long time, but it reminds me of my mother so I wouldn't dare go for a shorter look. On the other hand I have my dad's ice blue eyes and he and I are both very tall. My skin in tan from always being outside and I am very well built especially for a 17 year old from district 6. I look at the clock. 7:30. Right on time I have to be at the square at 9 and I still have some stuff to do.
I walk downstairs to see Acorn, my nine year old brother pouring cereal for both of us and getting glasses of cold milk, a luxury. He is so kind like that, he defiantly takes after my mom. He sees me and comes up to me and says "I wanted to do something special for you, you know, in caseā¦" he trails off, not wanting to finish his sentence. I laugh to cover my own fears. "What did I tell you, I ain't goin' nowhere!" We eat our cereal then get the sandwiches we made last night for our friends. We walk down the street to the bad part of town to a small one bedroom home that is falling apart. We knock on the door and enter and are met by Andy, an man from district 5 in his early 30's and who broke his back doing stunts with his friends at age 8, and is now paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheel chair. After greeting us we follow him to the living room where Patricia, a 60 something year old lady from district 11 with a big heart and a chef's hand. Patricia and Andy had taken Acorn and I in when our dad went to fight in the war, as our mom had died of cancer 8 years ago. Of course I ran off to help my dad but Acorn stayed. She gave us each a big hug and went back to cooking. The 4 of us chatted for a while about this and that, Andy and Acorn eating, Patricia cooking, and I cross stitching, something my mother taught me before she died. We are still talking when Ivymore comes in. He is a well built 19 year old rebel leader from district 8. He joined our group towards the end of the war and came back to district 6 with us. Not that we would ever tell anyone but we are in love. He told me that's why he came back to six with me, and we have kissed a few times but nothing farther then that. I feel safe in his arms and I know he would never hurt me, but he can't protect me from the games. He joins our conversation as if he was always there until it is time to leave. I grab his arm "In case I am reaped..." I begin. "No," he interrupts "you won't be reaped." He says. "You don't know that. It could be any one." I say with tears starting to come. I don't cry much so I must be very upset. "It's not going to be you." He says while brushing off my tears. We are there before I know it and before long I am standing emotionless as they call my name. I run up to hug Ivymore goodbye, along with my brother. Because I know I will never see them again.

"Hey Dad where are you? Oh there you are Dad!" I say as I see him and start to run over to him. He sees me and starts to wave hello and just when I'm starting to get close it happens. The Capitol planes come and start dropping bombs. I am close enough to shelter to hide, but my dad isn't so lucky. Right before my eyes he is blown to bits. I scream and I scream and I scream.
I am still screaming as I wake up. My nine year old sister Myra comes running in to check on me. Ever since I have been having these nightmares she does this. She is the best little sister in the world and I am so lucky to have her. After she calms me down she makes me take a shower to wash of the memories and sweat from tossing and turning. She wants to be a psychologist one day, she says helping me has brought her joy and has helped her cope with dad being gone as well. Of course she wasn't there last year when he was blown up. When I get out she is dressed and ready to go and makes me put on a green and blue striped shirt and khakis and my nice shoes before she combs my dirty blond hair so that it doesn't stick up. After that we run downstairs where we see that our mom made us breakfast before running off to work. After eating she goes to play with her friend Lily, promising to be back before the reaping.
Just as she leaves my friend Fusia comes over to train before the reaping. When we heard about the reaping we made spears and started to train with them. We have gotten pretty decent from my point of view, but I'm no expert. Most of the time I focus on Fusia. She is so beautiful. Myra thinks I love her but I keep telling myself its just a crush. When we leave for the reaping Myra tells me not to worry as does Fusia although I'm way more worried about her. When I stand with the 15 year old boys I can only think "not Fusia" but luckly it's not her, it is an older girl who hugs and older boy and a younger boy - her brothers? - in the audience and calmly walks to the stage. But then my name is called, making Myra burst into tears. Fusia also has tears in her eyes. I comfort Myra then whisper in Fusia's ear "Take care of her. Don't forget me."
Sorry sorry I had writers block. I will work harder I am working on next chapter now.
