Parker
I was so happy when I saw Arianna walk out to meet us. She was so smiley, even with the severity of the attack she'd had. I ran to get the first hug from her and she laughed.
"Easy," she warned. "I'm not 100% just yet."
Hardison gave her a hug as well, but Elliot hung back. Ever since Hardison had upset him that morning, he hadn't been acting right. Arianna went up to him and held her arms out. He looked like we was about to say no, but gave in anyway.
"We should celebrate!" I yelled in excitement.
"What should we do?" Arianna asked
"Something safe," Elliot said, finally breaking his morning-long silence.
Three of us rolled our eyes.
"Dur," Hardison chuckled. "How about we just go to a nice restaurant and relax?"
"That sound's good," I said. "Let's go to that new fancy place that's always booked out."
"Not for us," Hardison smiled, pulling out his phone.
We all headed to the restaurant and had a beautiful meal together. Arianna told us that she spent the night talking to Elliot because of how lonely the hospital was. Hardison told Arianna about the way Elliot had come home acting weird and then started fighting with each other so bad, we were asked to leave.
"You guys seriously can't go day without a disagreement, can you?" Arianna sighed.
"It's just the way they are," I joined her as the boys continued bickering, even as we got home.
"You had your medicine this morning, right?" Elliot checked and Arianna nodded. "Good, I'm gonna check every day, just in case."
"Don't worry," she laughed. "I set a reminder on my phone, but thanks anyway."
"Still," he grumbled.
Arianna yawned. "I might get some sleep."
She headed down to her room, and only when her door closed did it start.
"You know I hate you," Elliot growled.
"Man, I didn't do nothin'," Hardison replied in anger.
"Yeah, you did."
"What did I do then?"
Elliot's mouth snapped shut.
"So you ain't even gonna tell me?" Hardison half-yelled.
"You're getting in my brain," Elliot spat. "You're making it awkward."
"How so?"
"Do you have any idea what it's like to have you badgering me about Arianna?" Elliot asked, his face turning a light shade of red. "You don't know crap, and you put these ideas in my head, and they just turn into a storm."
He stopped to breathe.
"So you realised?" Hardison asked calmly.
"Realised what?" Elliot challenged. "That I care about Ari? Yeah, I knew that from the first time she stepped in this place and I though she had a problem we could help solve. So did you, and Parker. It doesn't change anything now that she's part of the team. We all care for her, and I'm the one who has to protect all our asses."
"I wish you guys wouldn't fight," I interjected.
They both looked at me until I felt like a mouse.
"You seriously need to stop making me think of her in ways that I don't want to," Elliot continued. "She's our team member."
"Didn't stop me and Parker," Hardison countered.
"That's different."
"Look, I'm not trying to be hard on you," Hardison admitted. "But to me, it's obvious you have a special connection with that girl. She trusts you on a deeper level, and do I even talk about how you've spent 99% of your waking time with her?"
Elliot turned away. "This is exactly what I'm talking about."
He muttered something about a work-out and headed for the gym.
Hardison sighed and sat on the couch next to me.
"Did you guys really need to fight about that?" I asked.
"I guess we did babe," he replied, flicking the TV to his favourite movie and snuggling up to me.
"I hope he feels better soon," I mumbled.
"Me too."
Arianna
I had somewhat drifted off when I heard yelling coming from the lounge room. I assumed it was just a continuation of the earlier fight and tried to block it out. It quietened down after a few minutes, but I had trouble trying to get to sleep so I went out to get a drink. Hardison and Parker were having a home movie date of the couch when I entered the lounge room. They both smiled and said hello.
"I thought you were sleeping," Hardison said.
"So did I, until a certain two decided to have another argument," I growled half-jokingly.
"Our bad," he apologised but I just waved it off. "So, did you hear any of it?"
"No, you guys fight over the smallest things so I just ignored you," I replied.
"Maybe you should check on giggles and sunshine," he called to me as I went to the kitchen. "He's in his bat cave."
I rolled my eyes as I came back, but headed for the gym anyway. The music was decidedly louder today, so pinking the lock and sneaking in unnoticed was easier than normal. I sat on the floor and watched Elliot's back has he continually laid into the punching bag. I could just hear his words above the music.
"That stupid," -punch- "arrogant," -punch- "son of a," punch.
"Hey," I called as I turned off the music
He turned around in shock.
"I heard you fighting before," I told him. "Are you okay?"
He turned away.
"I suppose you heard then," he said before cursing loudly.
"No," I replied, to which he spun back looking relieved. "But seeing as both you and Hardison were worried about me hearing, I'm going to assume it was about me."
He groaned, dropping to the floor. I crawled over to sit in front of him.
"What's going on?" I asked simply. "I thought you'd told me everything yesterday that made you feel like this."
"Nothing I told you yesterday made me feel like this," he replied.
"Well, why does it need to cause fights?"
"Because Hardison can't keep his fat nose out of my life," he spat.
"How is that about me?" I asked.
He sighed. "You know that incident a couple weeks back?" I asked.
She nodded but her face said she was trying to remember, and I sighed.
"When Parker made Hardison talk to me."
"Oh," she groaned. "He brought it up again?"
I nodded. "It's just a bit different this time."
"How?" she questioned.
I half looked away, not sure how much to tell her. I felt a warm hand on mine, and it didn't help the thoughts in my head.
"Just, it's getting to me now," I admitted, not that it was a lie.
Her reaction was just as I'd hoped.
"So he just won't leave it alone," she growled.
I could see it in her eyes. It was the same feeling I had when I fought with Hardison.
"It's not worth it," I told her. "Let's just leave it."
She death stared me so hard, and I couldn't help but think she looked adorable.
"He's causing you to get mad and sulk," she accused. "And you want to sit here? Why are you smiling? Stop laughing!"
I hadn't realised how funny it was when she got mad in my stead. I couldn't help but let loose a little, especially after the events of yesterday. She continued to glare at me until I stopped.
"What is so damn funny about this situation?" she asked scathingly, which only made me laugh again.
"You," I half choked out. "You look like a chihuahua ready to fight a rottweiler. Stupid but vicious."
She slapped my leg, the closest part of me to her. It totally didn't help my laughing fit. Soon, she joined in and we both laughed until it hurt. As soon as we calmed down, we sat there in silence for a while.
"Why do you make me laugh so much?" I mused.
She scoffed. "Hell if I know, that's what I was trying to ask you."
"Yeah," I sighed and she smiled.
"What happened to working out," she asked sarcastically.
I shrugged. "I think I'm in more pain after laughing so hard than I have ever felt from a work-out."
"You should do it more often then," she giggled.
"Yeah," I agreed. "Just promise me you'll stick around to help me."
She held out her pinkie without hesitation. "I promise."
We shook on it and I stood up. She joined me and we left the gym.
"Would you like to do something fun today?" she asked and then added quickly. "For your laughing exercises."
I chuckled but agreed. "We could go to an amusement park."
"Wouldn't that make things worse with Hardison?" she asked.
I blinked, only just realising we'd managed to look like we were going on a date. The only problem was, I didn't care as much any more. The only things bothering me now were my heart feeling like it was going nuts, and my stomach doing somersaults as I thought the word 'date'.
"You know what? Who cares," I replied, trying to mask the break in my voice. "Let's just go have fun."
"Let's go then," she smiled, but the look in her eyes was more worry.
I used my thumb to smooth out the lines on her forehead. "Stop worrying, you'll get wrinkles."
She laughed before running to her room to get ready.
Arianna
As soon as I closed the door, the only sound I could hear was the beating in my chest. Even if Elliot didn't mind the rumours, it didn't stop the fact they'd get worse if it looked like we were going on a..
Nope! I flopped on the bed to stop the thought. Instead my mind played flashbacks of the last few weeks, but it decided to choose only certain moments to show. I tried to shake them away. It was hard to think of someone so much older than me, so much more experienced and mature, ever thinking of me the way that Hardison thought he did. It just wouldn't happen. Even if I felt closer to him than anyone else.
I slapped myself out of my reverie. It was a bit too hard, but it worked. I got changed and headed out to the lounge room. Parker and Hardison were still on the couch but they stopped talking when I got close.
"What?" I asked.
"You look nice," Parker complimented.
"You going somewhere?" Hardison questioned.
"If you must know," I huffed. "Somewhere with Elliot, as friends."
I emphasised the last word to get the point across that he was in deep trouble, but he just shrugged and mumbled, "Whatever you say."
I grabbed a nearby magazine, and used it on his head.
"I thought we'd gotten over the business of rumours," I shouted. "You know how much it upsets Elliot."
Restraining hands grabbed me and took my magazine.
"I said just leave it," Elliot growled in my ear.
"But-" I began.
He quickly silenced me with a look.
"Come on, let's go to the car," he said quickly, guiding me away. His hand was locked around mine as we left the front of the busy shop. I got into the car as he went around to the driver's side. We sat in awkward silence for half the trip. I thought about apologising, but his mood had turned sour, and I had no idea how to fix it.
He sighed. "You shouldn't have done that."
"I know," I mumbled. "But his attitude bugged me."
"Don't worry," he said. "It bothers me too. But there's no use getting mad. It's obviously not going to stop him. He's like you sometimes."
I snorted. "How so?"
"Stubborn," he chuckled.
I couldn't argue.
"Look, I'm sorry," I apologised.
"It's okay," he smiled. "Just let me do the fighting. It's kind of my job."
I laughed and relaxed. Soon, we got to the amusement park. I began my lessons with a straight face. Well, as straight as I could get it.
"Lesson one," I began, clearing my throat. "Amusement parks are a land created specifically to make us smile and laugh."
I could see his serious face cracking at the silliness of me trying to actually turn this into a learning experience. He just walked ahead of me without waiting, making me have to catch up.
"You're a total idiot," he chuckled under his breathe.
"I know," I replied. "Now let's hurry. We've already lost half the day."
Parker
As soon as Elliot and Arianna left, Hardison started.
"They're going on a date," he said simply, still staring at the TV screen.
"But Arianna said-" I started but he shook his head.
"People can lie babe," he told me. "You know that better than anyone."
I sighed. "But I trust her. She wouldn't lie like that."
He shook his head again. "It's not her I'm talking about. I think she fully believes they're just going out as friends. Elliot, on the other hand..."
He trailed off.
"Hey!" I snapped. "You know Arianna was right. You shouldn't be bringing up rumours again. It hurts all of us when we don't trust each other."
Hardison sighed. "I guess I have to trust him, even if he''s lying to himself."
"You don't know what he's thinking," I rebuked. "You don't read minds."
I stopped in realisation.
"Do you?"
He laughed. "No, Parker, but I guess your right. I should think of everyone, not just trying to get Elliot to admit to stuff he doesn't have to."
I nodded and snuggled down closer to him.
"Even if it's true," he added and I sighed, pushing myself off the sofa.
"I was joking babe!" he called after me as I headed to the kitchen.
"Sure you were," I muttered to myself.
I don't like writing this part so much. I keep tearing the team apart. D: I'm so mean, but keep reading to find out what happens next. ;) As always, any critiques, suggestions, ideas via review are encouraged. Until next time ~^_^
