A/N: I'm sorry this is a short chapter! You guys deserved an update though. I'm so sorry for the delay. Life once again went crazy. Thank you to everyone who has stuck with me! I love you guys so much!
It had been a week since Olivia has woken up. Most of the days were spent with Alex curled up next to a sleeping Olivia. She was still sore and the pain medication made her pass out. The last two days though, Olivia had been up more. She was to be released from the hospital that evening. As happy as Alex was, she was so nervous. She had agreed to take care of Olivia after being discharged.
"You ready to bust out of here beautiful?" Alex smiled as she slipped into Olivia's hospital room. She had stepped outside to take to Olivia's nurse. She was getting paperwork ready.
"I've never been so ready to see the four walls of my tiny apartment." Olivia smiled at Alex. She was finally out of a hospital gown and into clothes. She was clad in a navy blue button up and a pair of jeans. She felt human almost.
Alex couldn't help but smile at Olivia. After her wounds healed, she would start physical therapy. The bullet went through Olivia's chest, puncturing her left lung and nicked an artery in her heart eventually exiting her shoulder. There was no telling at this point if Olivia would come back 100%.
Both ladies turned their heads to the door when the nurse came walking in.
"I have a few discharge instructions and then you are free to go." The nurse gave them a smile and continued on. "Keep the entrance and exit wounds clean and dry, and change the dressing twice a day. No showers until the stitches are removed. Come back in if there are any signs of infection."
Alex sat there and listened to the same things a nurse had told her years ago when she was shot. It still sent a shiver up her spine. Olivia sensed it and gave her hand a gently squeeze.
"And follow up with your doctor, Detective. You're free to go as soon as someone goes down and gets a wheelchair."
"Do I really have to be wheeled out?" Olivia groaned.
"You've only walked for maybe a half hour a day the last few days." Alex shot Olivia a look.
"Listen to the pretty lady. Besides, it's hospital policy. Your body has been put to the test over the last couple of weeks. You need to take it easy."
Olivia just nodded and sighed.
"Ready babe?"
"As ready as ever." Olivia smiled as she sat in the wheelchair that was brought to her room by a young male nurse.
Once the couple got back to Olivia's apartment Alex made her sit on the couch. She instantly knew she wasn't going to be able to push herself with Alex around.
"Three out of four of my limbs still work Counselor."
"That may be true detective, but you just got out of the hospital I'm not about to let you over exert yourself and put you right back in. I care so much about you, Liv. Let me take care of you."
Olivia couldn't help but smile as she heard was Alex was saying.
"I care about you too, princess."
Olivia smiled as Alex shot her a playful glare because of the nickname from the kitchen.
"Can you please just come here and sit down. You have been straightening up in there since we got home."
"Well, we abruptly left it a mess. I'm almost done and I will be right there."
"I can't promise I will be awake when you return baby." Olivia smiled to herself. She had just taken pain medication but knew they wouldn't make her drowsy just yet.
"There I'm done." Alex smiled and curled up next to Olivia's right side.
"Kiss me and I'll forgive you for taking so long." Olivia fake pouted.
"I guess I can make that happen." Alex laughed and kissed Olivia gently on her lips.
"Can we order some dinner, that way you can stay right here next to me?"
"If you wish. Pick what you want and I'll call it in." Alex smiled and handed Olivia the menus that were kept on the coffee table.
It had been almost a half hour since they called in their dinner when there was a knock at the door. Alex opened it expecting the delivery guy to be there but Casey stood in front of her.
"I heard Olivia was home, I didn't know you would be here."
"Yeah, only way she could come home was if she had someone here to help her."
"Oh."
Olivia looked over and saw how Casey's demeanor had changed.
"What can I do for you Casey?" Olivia spoke and ran her fingers through her hair.
"I just dropped by to see if you need anything, but I see she has that covered." Casey sent a look over to Alex. Jealousy seeped from her words.
"I thought we got over this the day you came to ask Alex questions."
"I just thought-." Casey was cut off my Olivia.
"Thought what? That suddenly I would no longer want to be with her. She spent weeks by my side when she didn't have to. I finally got her, what makes you think I would let her go? I'm sorry you feel the way you do, but Alex is my girlfriend and she will be the one here to help me when needed."
Casey just nodded her head and bit her lip. "I'll see you guys. We have confessions from both if you were wondering, neither of them will be out for a long time."
Alex sighed as she closed the door. "How many other women do you have around new York drooling over you?"
"I don't care to know Alex. Only one I care about wanting me is you."
Alex smiled and kissed her softly, groaning when she heard someone else at the door. She was happy to see their food had arrived and not another uninvited guest.
Their night was spent curled up on the couch in each other's arms. The time they spent together meant so much to both of them.
"Take your medicine then we're laying down." Alex stifled a yawn and stretched before handing Olivia a glass of water.
Olivia yawned and nodded in reply. It had been a long day.
"Home, and safe." Alex smiled as they slipped into bed. She always felt safer in Olivia's apartment than her own. It was almost as if Olivia was her safety blanket.
"I love you." Olivia laid on her right side facing Alex. She could easily get lost in her blue eyes.
"I love you too." Alex smiled and turned the light off on the table.
This would be the first full night of sleep they both had. No nurses coming in and out. No machines beeping, just the sound of each of them breathing. Neither one would trade it for the world.
