A Little Bit of Magic

Snow fell from the cloudy, grey sky as the people of London hurriedly traveled along the sidewalks to get to their next destination. Holidays were quickly approaching, but with the current winter weather conditions it was keeping many people from actually braving the outside world.

A raven-haired girl with bright blue eyes scanned the street in front of her. Her porcelain skin was bundled under a thick, black winter trench coat, a pair of gloves, and a purple scarf that hung loosely around her neck. Wrapping her arms around herself in a feeble attempt to warm herself up, she cursed the snowy weather under her breath.

Kagome Higurashi was cold. Freezing cold to be more precise. And if she didn't manage to find a nice little place to step into for a moment to warm up, there was a good chance she just might turn into a holy power infused icicle.

Her eyes finally rested on a dark and shabby looking pub that sat between a bookstore and a record shop. Nobody seemed to notice the little eatery as people walked by to get to wherever they were going. She crossed the street with ease and looked at the sign above the doorway that read "Leaky Cauldron".

"Odd name…" she muttered to herself. But there was no way she was even going to judge or care based on how damn cold it was. Stepping inside, she gladly welcomed the heat that instantly rushed over her as the door shut. What she wasn't anticipating was the weird feelings she got from all the individuals that casually sat around the place quietly eating and drinking.

Using her powers she gently felt out the room. They were all normal humans, but their auras were just slightly more powerful than the average person. Not nearly as strong as herself or any demons she had encountered. It was hard to place but they just felt odd, stained with just a tiny bit of magic. However, since they appeared to be no threat to her, she simply made herself comfortable at the bar.

She glanced at the menu and grimaced at it's short and strange list of offerings: Pea Soup, Pickled Eel, Roast Hog, Steak and Kidney Pie, Game Pie, House House Soup, House Leaky Soup, House Soup Leaky, Leaky House Soup, Leaky Leaky Soup, Leaky Soup House, Soup House Leaky, Soup Leaky House, Soup Leaky Leaky, and finally Soup Soup Soup.

A young woman, who looked the same age if not younger than Kagome approached her. She had blonde hair and brown eyes. She dressed casually and even wore a little badger pendent on her sweater, along with a smile on her face. "Hi, I'm Hannah. What can I get for you?"

"Er…" Kagome mumbled out as she looked at the menu again, not really wanting anything that was listed but desired to fill her stomach nonetheless. "I'll try the Game Pie, please, and some tea."

"Coming right up!" Hannah chirped as she disappeared to where the kitchen probably was.

As Kagome patiently awaited the arrival of the food she so desperately craved, she heard the door swing open again. Two young men walked in, probably a couple years older than herself. They looked identical in every way: milk chocolate brown eyes, flaming red hair, and light freckles adorning their face. Their only difference was that it felt as though one of their aura's was very dim, almost fading away to nothing. She couldn't help but wonder if he was ill…

One sat down at the bar two chairs down from herself, while the other decided to walk around a bit. Hannah quickly came out from the kitchen with Kagome's game pie and placed it in front of her with a cup of hot tea. To be honest, she was surprised at how quickly she was served but decided to see it as luck as she quickly dug into the food. Delicious would be an understatement to the dish she was devouring…

"If you need anything else, let me know," Hannah said, probably ready to laugh at her eating so fast. The waitress however, turned her attention to the boy sitting at the counter and sent him a weak smile. "Hullo George, how are you?"

"Hullo Hannah," the redhead replied solemnly but sent her a fake smile. "I see you've taken over the Leaky Cauldron. Are you enjoying yourself here?"

"I am," she responded happily. "I love seeing all the faces of my friends as well as meeting any of the first years that are getting ready to go to school." She paused a moment, as if debating with herself to ask the man something. Hoping for the best, she asked, "Have you gone back to your shop yet?"

"No, but maybe soon..." he trailed off softly and simply left the subject alone.

Kagome felt sorry for the man. He was clearly bothered or upset over something, and enough so to cause him to even halt his job. But it wasn't her place to be so curious about someone else's life. She was on vacation, she reminded herself constantly. Looking down at her now empty bowl, she contemplated whether or not she wanted to order a second one.

"I hear you and Neville are snogging one another now," George said smirking towards the younger girl causing her to blush. Kagome wasn't sure what 'snogging' was, but assumed it was something intimate based on Hannah's reaction.

"He's sweet! And he has such admirable goals," she said dreamily. "He's an auror now, but wants to be an Herbology professor one day, preferably at Hogwarts."

"Of course," George responded with a smile, and eyes full of memories. "Hogwarts is the best school after all."

Kagome sniggered at the name of the school the two kept mentioning, earning the young waitress's attention. "Could I get you anything else?" She asked frantically, feeling as though perhaps she had neglected her other patron at the bar.

"Oh no thank you," Kagome returned with a smile. "I didn't mean to interrupt you guys at all. I will just take a check whenever you get a chance." While Hannah hurriedly got her total, Kagome reached into her coat pocket for her small pocketbook that contained her currency. But when her hands met emptiness, her eyes widened in fear and shock. "Oh no…" she mumbled to herself while searching every pocket and scanning the floor around her, hoping that by some miracle it merely fell onto the floor into the pub.

No such luck.

Letting out a groan, she put her head down on the counter. This earned her a raised brow from George. "Are you alright, miss?"

"I got robbed!" She exclaimed standing up from her bar stool. Kagome clenched her fists by her side and tried to fight back her anger. After all of her training and time in the feudal era, she managed to get pick pocketed in modern London. "I can't believe this… how could I be so stupid?" How could she be so careless?

"Hey now," George stood up and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "You're not stupid. It's those bloody chav muggles that are stupid. Going around causing mischief and being hooligans. It's not your fault." As Hannah brought over the check, the red-headed gentleman instantly took it from the waitress. "Don't worry, love, your meal is on me," he added in with a wink and a boyish grin. Reaching in to his pocket he took out a couple of gold coins, ones that Kagome didn't recognize from any she had received from the currency exchange office, and set them on the counter. "Thanks for the chat, Hannah. This should cover everything."

"Bye George!" Hannah called out, waving in his direction. He gave her a nod of acknowledgement and was quickly out the door. Sighing, she turned to face Kagome. "It's been a while since I've seen him grin like that. Not since his other half died."

"His wife?" Kagome asked, finishing off her tea.

Hannah seemed to stifle a laugh at her comment. "No silly. His brother! It's been half a year since he was murdered. I can't imagine one of the infamous Weasley pranksters getting married. I don't even think I saw either of them dating anyone at school…"

The barkeep went to the back leaving Kagome alone at the high top with her thoughts. It was so weird being back in the modern era. Sometimes she forgot that bad things like death could happen in this time period. When travelling in the Feudal Era, she looked to her home time as a safety blanket, a time where nothing could go wrong. No demons. No jewel shard hunting. Only high school and rejecting Hojo's advances. Although now that there was no more feudal era, her life in the modern one seemed rather dull.

Her thoughts were interrupted when the boy who looked like George came from around the corner but stopped suddenly when he noticed the look-a-like was missing. He frantically glanced around the entire facility before letting out a frustrated groan. "Bloody hell…" he murmured to himself, running a hand through his shaggy red hair.

"If you're looking for George," Kagome started while standing up from her bar stool and looking right at the twin. "He just left."

The young man stopped wide-eyed and slowly turned to stare at her. The two simply stared at one another before he finally blurted out in disbelief, "Are you talking to me?"

"Yes?" She answered with a question, now wondering if she shouldn't have given the twin the information about George after all. But since George had been so kind as to pay for her meal, she thought the least she could do was help his sibling.

He was next to her in the blink of an eye, his face mere inches from hers. "Can you really see me?" His eyes shone with excitement and he grabbed her hand. The smile on his face only grew wider. "And you can touch me!"

Kagome cursed under her breath. She really needed to get better at realizing when someone is and is not actually a ghost. It had been almost five years since her encounter with Mayu and the Soul Piper, but it still didn't make the idea of interacting with ghosts less painful. After all, lingering souls usually meant that there was reason they were sticking around.

It also usually meant they had been killed.

"Yes…" she responded while slowly pulling her hand away from his own. "Look, I'm so sorry for whatever happened to you in life. However, I really need to go." Without giving him a second glance she tried to bolt for the door. The sooner she could get away, the better.

"What? No! You can't leave!" The twin boy caught up to her in a heartbeat and blocked the door frame to the outside world. "You're the only person on the bloody planet that can see me. There's no way I'm letting you get away from me."

"Move." Kagome seethed sternly. She had already been robbed today and was not ready to deal with whatever baggage this dead guy had. But when he decided to hold his ground and not budge from the door frame, she let out a loud groan. To make matters worse, the few patrons that still remained in the Leaky Cauldron were all starting to send her glances or blatantly stare at her. This day just keeps getting worse and worse…

Counting to three in her head, she let out a calming breath and turned her attention back towards the twin. "Well then, if you won't let me out the front door…" she started verbally before turning around and eyeing a back door. "I will just go out the back!"

And without a moment's hesitation she sprang for the back door, clutching her coat tightly around her. She didn't even stop to check and see if he was chasing after her before slamming into the back door and swinging it open. What greeted her sight though was not a back alley though, but a small courtyard with part of a brick wall. However, it was what she could see beyond the brick wall that startled her. Before her sat an entire shopping district with people hustling along the streets.

Deciding that she needed to quit gawking, but was halted by the ghost man grabbing her wrist. "Let go of me," she shouted at him while dragging him toward the shopping center.

"Just talk to me," he grunted out while trying to hold her back. It was starting to become more and more difficult for him to maintain his grasp on her with her constant pulling and twisting.

"I'm not getting involved," she responded before finally breaking free and running into the alley full of people. She wasn't sure why he wasn't chasing after her again, but she wasn't going to stop and ask him. She paid no attention to the people around her as she weaved in and out of the crowd. Finally she saw a pretty busy shop to her right and decided to hide inside.

As she hurriedly walked through the door she immediately had to stop when a bright pink ball of fur came flying past her face. But the strangest part is, she was certain the little bundle of fluff had a face on it with big black eyes.

"Hey! No throwing the Pygmy Puffs!" A man in a magenta robe yelled from across the room.

Blinking a couple of times, Kagome finally looked around the shop and felt her jaw drop in wonderment. She read the names of the items located closest to her: Anti Gravity Hats, Fanged Flyer, Nose Biting Teacup, Screaming Yo-Yo and an odd sounding product titled "U-No-Poo". It was like a joke shop, only the products were items she had never heard of before. There was one teenager who picked up what looked like a toy wand, but when waved it instantly turned into a rubber chicken.

Odd.

But the more she looked around, the more odd things she started to witness. Another girl in the corner placed a hat on her head that made it disappear completely and caused all her little friends to giggle along side her. Someone let off a firework that snaked around the top of the shop like a dragon before evaporating into smoke. The man in magenta immediately went running after whoever let off the firework exclaiming that they couldn't try the fireworks before purchasing them.

Glancing down at her feet, she noticed one of the little balls of fur attempting to climb over her right foot as though it were one of the biggest obstacles the little creature had ever faced. Smiling softly, she couldn't help but bend down and scoop the little creature up. Giggling she brought the Pygmy Puff up to her nose and nuzzled against it and stroked its fur. It was so soft and reminded her of the way Shippo's tail felt…

"...cute."

Kagome froze instantly recognizing the voice. Letting out a soft growl in annoyance she said rather sternly, "I told you I'm not getting involved!" However, as she turned around to confront the redhead, she was pleasantly surprised to see that it was the brother that was still very much alive.

George raised a brow at her sudden outburst and leaned against the wall beside him arms crossed. "Get involved with what?"

Hugging the Pygmy Puff close to her chest, she let habit take over and quickly bowed. "I'm sorry I thought you were someone else. Oh! And thank you again for earlier today!"

She blushed as she looked up slowly and saw he was trying not to laugh. "There's no need to be so formal. And it's not a problem at all." He started with a smile. "But just out of curiosity, who did you mistake me for?"

"Just a different persistent red-head, and you're right, these little creatures are really cute," she said turning her attention back to the little ball of fluff. "Even if I've never heard of a Pygmy Puff before."

"You can only get them here," he said scooping up another one off the floor. "My sister has one named Arnold. My brother and I bred them here in the back. It's quite a long process so I don't recommend trying it yourself."

"In the back…?" She questioned confused. Turning around she looked toward the check-out counter and noticed the big banner across the top that read 'Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes'. "Weasley…" she mumbled to herself remembering that that was what the waitress Hannah had said George's last name was. Of all the stores she had to run into and hide, it was the one associated with the ghost she was trying to run from!

"This is my shop," he started triumphantly before his expression softened into that of heartache. "My twin brother and I opened it together after we left school. However, I am the sole owner now..."

"I'm so sorry for your loss," she said softly, hoping he could hear her over all the noisy guests bustling around the shop. Not a single one of them paid the duo any attention as they spoke with one another. "If you don't mind my asking, what was your brother's name?" She had a feeling that she would be seeing the deceased brother again, and she thought it would be rude if she didn't know how to address him other than Mr. Ghost.

"Fred," he responded a little bit surprised. "He was killed during the Battle of Hogwarts last spring."

"Oh," was all she could muster out. Truthfully, she had never heard of the 'Battle of Hogwarts'. She didn't even think England was at war with anyone.

Kagome must have let her confusion show on her face because it was only seconds later that George asked, "You have no idea what I'm talking about do you?"

"I mean no disrespect!" She instantly replied blushing in embarrassment again. "I'm sure it was very important, I just have never heard of it."

"Never heard of it…" he repeated dumbfounded, while returning the Pygmy Puff to the floor. "It's what brought about the end of the Second Wizarding War! The defeat of Voldemort!" His jaw merely dropped when she continued to look at him confused. "Where did you go to school?!"

"Er… a high school in Japan?" She answered casually following his example and placing creature at her feet. Not really sure if she should give out the name of her old school or not. Clearly she was missing something…

"A high school? My dad said that's where muggles get an education…" he thought out loud. Suddenly his eyes widened in realization. "Merlin!" Looking around in a panic he grabbed her hand and led her towards a staircase off to the side of the shop. They passed a sign on the wall that read 'Employees Only'. At the top of the stairs was a balcony that allowed people to look down over the entirety of the shop, but a door reading 'Break Room' was their destination.

As the two approached the room, George practically pushed her through the door frame and then leaned against the door as if blocking other from entering and quickly locked it. Kagome nervously took a step back, not liking how this was going so far. First she is robbed, then she is harassed and stalked by a ghost, and finally she is locked in a small room with the ghost's twin brother. There was nothing but a couch with a coffee table in the center of the room, a small stove in the corner to make tea, and an ornate fireplace on the right wall.

Could this day get any more annoying?

But in a weird way, she was kind of enjoying it. She would probably regret thinking that at some point in the near future. For now, she was thrilled with the excitement, despite the weirdness of it all. Life had been pretty boring since her return from the Feudal Era. No more demons threatening to maim or dismember her… or trying to eat her… or make her their wife. No more being called a wench or a useless priestess or merely the group's Shikon Shard detector.

Her thoughts were interrupted when George began to mumble to himself. Turning to look at him, she noticed just how panic stricken he seemed. "Are you alright?"

His attention immediately snapped to her. "Am I alright? Of course I'm not alright," he seethed out. "I'm somehow managed to come across a muggle in my shop and she asks me if I'm okay."

"Excuse me?!" She shouted back offended at his remark, despite the fact she had no idea what it meant. "I have no idea what the hell a 'muggle' is, but I have a name and you can use it. It's Kagome. Ka-Go-Me! Got it?"

"Well Ka-Go-Me," he repeated back mockingly. "A muggle is a non-magical person and since you went to a high school, and not a magical one that means you are not a witch. Muggle."

In an odd way it felt like he was insulting her. "I am not a muggle! Just because I didn't go to a fancy school in England doesn't mean I don't know magic."

"Oh, so you're a squib?"

Kagome felt her eyebrow twitch in annoyance. All these words she didn't know were starting to piss her off. "I don't know what that is."

"Then you're definitely a muggle." He said matter-of-factly. "But none of that will matter…" he started off by reaching into his back pocket and pulling out a stick. "When I erase your memory." Pointing the stick at her, he drew a circle in the air while saying, "Obliviate!"

She quickly dropped to the ground allowing the spell to pass over her. "What is that, a wand? How dare you try to erase my memory!" She did the two things she knew she was good at still: putting up a barrier and ducking for cover. She didn't know what getting her memory erased entailed, and she wasn't ready to lose her precious memories of the feudal era.

Her barrier took a couple of spell hits from George, and she could feel them ricochet throughout her body. Whenever anything touched her barrier, she could tell. When she didn't feel anything else on the barrier, she cracked one of her eyes open to witness the wizard hovering over her and her small protective force field. "Blimey…" she could hardly hear him speak. The barricade muffled sounds to her, almost like they were very far away.

Suddenly, she noticed a mop of red hair rise from the floor inside her barrier followed by the top half of a face identical to the one trying to erase her memory. Kagome shrieked in surprise and fell over, causing the barrier to immediately drop. By this time Fred had completely risen out of the ground and was sitting cross-legged in front of her. "Why are you screaming?" Both the boys yelled at the same time.

Propping herself up with her left hand, she brought her right hand over her heart as if to calm it down. "Well with you popping up out of the damn ground and your mental brother trying to erase my memory, I'm not exactly excited right now!"

"Well why's he trying to erase your memory?" He asked quizzically.

"He keeps calling me a muggle," she pouted. "Then he points this stupid stick at me and casts what I assume is a spell."

"Wait, you're not a witch? What were you doing in the Leaky Cauldron if you weren't a witch?" He questioned.

Kagome was starting to get annoyed again. "Well what are you doing in the land of the living when you're dead?"

"Ouch, love," Fred feigned being hurt and stood up. He instantly reached out his hand and offered it to her. "The vixen has claws."

Blushing she accepted his assistance and stood up. "Yeah, well this vixen has a name. And it would do you well to use it."

"May I have the honor?"

"Kagome," George said her name interrupting the two. However, to him, it appeared as though she had been talking to herself the entire time. "Who are you talking to?"

She glanced at Fred who was grinning from ear to ear next to her. He nudged her with his elbow. "Y'gonna tell him?" He looked at her expectantly, clearly excited.

Groaning, she rolled her eyes. "I'm talking to your stubborn brother, Fred."

Kagome didn't know it was possible, but Fred's grin somehow got even bigger. But instead of matching his excitement, George frowned and furrowed his brow. She could see a deep anger flash through his eyes before he immediately marched over to her. "How dare you," he seethed out as he got merely inches from her face. His wand jabbed awkwardly behind her chin. "Are you making fun of me?" His voice was low, dangerously low. There was so much hatred in him right now, she could practically feel it rolling off of him in waves.

This of course was when Fred decided to chime in his two cents. In a hushed and amused whisper he bluntly mentioned, "We were pretty close."

"Yeah I see that," she half choked out. For a stick, this thing was pretty sturdy and sharp. "A little help here, Fred?"

Smirking he leaned in and said, "I'm a ghost in the land of the living, remember?"

George gripped the handle of his wand and immediately thrust out his arm with it in tow. A red jet of light immediately shot from its tip and shattered the teapot that was resting on the stove top. "Stop mocking me!" He shouted angrily. "You have no idea what I've been through! The pain I've experienced and the heartache I've felt. I lost my best friend! Half of me died the day Fred did! I can't even look in the mirror without thinking of him. Do you know how hard it is to live knowing that he can't?"

Kagome felt her heart crumble as she witnessed the man before her break. She did the only thing she could think of and wrapped her arms around him and buried her head in his chest. "I know your pain," she whispered. "While I may not have been a part of your war, I experienced my own. I lost friends who acted as a family to me. Now I can never see them again. I never joke about the dead."

It took him by surprise, no doubt. But what surprised her was when his shoulder suddenly dropped and he hugged her back. He had dropped his wand and was now gripping the back of her trench coat. At least he wasn't trying to erase her memory anymore. Unconsciously she started to rub his back in small circles in an attempt to soothe him.

Kagome mentally cursed. Things had escalated to a level she hadn't expected it to. All she wanted to do was to escape the cold, and she ended up meeting the most interesting pair of twins that threw her life back into weirdness. She smiled against his chest. As expected, this was the life she needed, not a dull boring one without any excitement. She hated to admit it, but it looks like she was going to have to get involved.

Glancing up at Fred, she smiled and gave him a nod. Understanding what she meant by that he immediately cheered and joined in on the hug. "You're an angel, Kagome! I knew you'd come around!"

Her giggle prompted George to immediately let go of her. "I'm so sorry!" His face was red with embarrassment instead of anger now. "I'm a mess right now…"

Fred sniggered and whispered into Kagome's ear. She tried to stifle a laugh and George sent her a perplexed look. "You're brother says, 'this is nothing compared to when we got those beards in our sixth year.'"

George was left speechless as he looked at her, trying to soak in exactly what she said to him. Fred smirked at his brother and crossed his arms. "He's finally figured out you're not joking with him."

Finally, for the first time since she met the two, they both wore the same facial expression and beamed at her. George rushed forward, picked her up by the waist and spun around with her. "You're a God send! I knew there was something I liked about you!"

It was amazing how someone could go from having a wand at your throat to praising you endlessly. "So you don't want to erase my memories anymore and send me back into the 'muggle' world?" She asked jokingly.

"Send you off?" He started, feigning confusion and instantly lowering her to his eye level. He hadn't removed his hands from her waist. The twin brought his face mere centimeters away from hers causing her to instantly blush. "I'm never letting you out of my sight!"

What had she gotten herself into?

AN: I know it wasn't as fluffy or love struck as some of the other ones, but I hope you still liked it. You have no idea how close this was to becoming a drabble series that would be on going. I'm still fighting with myself about it to be honest. But oh well.

I've got a couple of other chapters that are getting close to being ready to be posted, including a Hotel Babylon crossover. If you don't know what Hotel Babylon is and have access to Netflix, please watch it. It's an awesome series, (at least the first two seasons anyway haha).

Please read and review! I love you all for sticking with me! Thank you!
