Chapter 11 – Examination

"Call this in now Frost!" Jane shouted with her back to Frost as he pulled his cell phone out straight away. Jane took a deep breath then fumbled around in her pocket and pulled her cell out and dialled Maura's number.

"Jane, is everything okay?" Maura sounded panicked and Jane hated what she was about to tell Maura it was going to make things ten times worse.

"No Maur it's not you need to get down here, Sadie she's…" Jane hesitated,

"She's what Jane?" Maura questioned,

"She's dead Maura, and the person who done it, it's the one who sent the message to you and they've left you another one. We need you to check the body Maur but come in with Korsak please I need to know your safe okay, I love you Maura."

"Okay, I love you too Jane."

That was all Maura could say now, Korsak had come over to Maura after the phone call of Frost and made sure Maura would travel in the car with him to the apartment. In the car Maura fell silent she couldn't stop thinking about the text message and now there was another one. Who was doing this? And for that person to actually kill Sadie it was too much, way too much and Maura was genuinely scared now. They arrived at the apartment and there were a few police cars outside with police officers starting to section off the scene. Maura exited the car with Korsak and both walked up to the front door of the apartment where Jane and Frost were waiting patiently.

"Maura!" Jane exclaimed and walked up giving a tight hug to Maura.

The four of them turned and walked through the door when Frost stopped and called out,

"Hey if it's alright with you, I think I might stay and look at the living room."

Jane nodded she understood that Frost had a weak stomach when it come to seeing crime scenes and to be honest this particular scene upset Jane to no end especially the message written in blood on the wall.

"I need to be honest with you Maura it's not pretty and the message well…" Jane couldn't finish her sentence and Maura just nodded in an understanding motion. Before entering the bedroom Maura took a deep breath and as she entered she gasped and put her hand to her mouth, seeing Sadie on the bed sprawled out with huge amounts of blood covering the room, as she slowly looked around the room she saw the message written in blood and what it read, Maura started shaking which Jane instantly saw and ran up to Maura and put her hands around her waist.

"Jane, why would someone do this? I mean what do they want with me?" Maura's voice cracked with worry as she spoke.

"I don't know baby, I really don't but I'm not gonna let any harm come to you, do you understand me Maura I will do anything and everything to make sure your safe." Jane gave her best reassuring smile to Maura although underneath she too was scared of the fact that there were the words, what if she couldn't protect Maura?

Cops were helping process the rooms with Frost while Maura prepared herself to examine the body, Jane and Korsak stayed in the bedroom with Maura looking for any evidence they could find. Maura noticed her hands shaking as she went to examine the body, Jane walked over and took hold of Maura's hands.

"Maur if you're not up to this it's okay we'll get Pike in, we all understand."

Maura shook her head,

"No Jane I will do this I have too, yes I'm scared but I'm not going to let this sick person scare me and back me into a corner."

Jane smiled and Maura questioned it,

"It's one of many reasons why I love you Maura because you're a fighter."

Maura smiled and turned to examine the body, Jane was hovering by the door behind Maura with Korsak waiting to hear what Maura would say. Korsak tapped Jane on the shoulder,

"Are you okay?" Korsak asked concerned,

Korsak knew Jane well and could read her like a book since they used to be partners and he could see she was scared, Korsak himself was worried since Maura was like family to him.

"I'll be okay Korsak as soon as I get the bastard who's doing this."

Korsak understood this was the end of the conversation and kept quiet; he didn't want t push Jane.

"Okay so from looking at the body I cannot assume anything as yet I will have to do more testing back at the morgue but first I will collect samples of the blood around the room."

"Okay Maur, I'll take you back then and stay with you whilst you examine the body."

Maura agreed with Jane and when she collected the blood samples she asked for the body to be moved to the morgue ready for her to do the autopsy.

At the morgue Maura was putting on gloves and getting ready to examine the body whilst Jane stood on the opposite side.

"Right, there is a 12 cm long gaping cut as you can see from the larynx to the lower jaw, this was made to look like a suicide Jane but its not. The right jugular external vein was cut straight away so it was a instant death, I can do a few more test to find out the weapon used but I can't promise anything straight away Jane."

"That's okay Maura you've done great, how are you feeling?"

Maura took her gloves off and went to her office and Jane followed, entering the office Jane shut the door and held Maura in her arms. Maura started to cry softly and Jane held her tightly and gently soothed her. Jane hated seeing Maura like this it was slowly killing her inside.

"Maura, I promise you I will catch whoever is doing this."

Maura nodded with her face buried in Jane's arms, this right now was when Maura felt safe in Jane's arms, yes she could put a brave face on for everyone else but Maura felt Jane knew her too well and it felt good to be in Jane's arms.

There was a knock on the office door and Maura straightened herself up and wiped her eyes, Jane smiled and kissed her forehead.

"Come in." Maura said,

It was Susie with the blood samples.

"I've got the results back from the blood samples and there and two matches Doctor Isles."

"Two?" Maura and Jane said in unison.

"Yes, the first one is the deceased Sadie Hardwick and the second is John Bluekeld."

Maura went pale.

"John Bluekeld?" Maura questioned Susie who nodded.

Jane shot a concerned face,

"Jane he's an ex boyfriend of mine."
