Amelia Gilbert

Jeremy, Elena and I were sitting around the table, having breakfast. Things felt relatively normal after the last twenty four hours and I have never appreciated normal as much as this in my entire life. Although for now the dust had settled, it could be easily kicked back up. There was still a war going on between the two Salvatore brothers. Vicki's disappearance was still being questioned and I had a vampire sneaking into my bedroom every night. I had no clue what was going to happen next, but I knew I wasn't prepared for it.

"Morning all." Jenna greeted as she came into the kitchen.

"Morning." We all murmured.

"What time do you guys have to be at the station?" Jenna asked us as she brought out a bowl from the cupboard. We're all going to the station to give our statements about Vicki's disappearance. I wasn't a great liar so I was not looking forward to this.

"An hour." Elena replied, checking over at Jeremy's end. "Are you going to be ok with that, Jer?"

"I don't even know why they're conducting an investigation." Jeremy shrugged and pushed away his breakfast. As far as Jeremy knew, Vicki left town on her own accord. We wanted to keep it that way.

"Are you going to be ok, bud?" Jenna asked him, placing a hand on his shoulder.

"Yeah, it was for the best."

Elena and I shared a sneaky glance. At least the compulsion had worked.

"Listen guys," Jenna said, with two hands now on each of Jeremy's shoulder. "I was thinking..."

"This can't be good." I whispered to Elena.

"That maybe I could invite Logan over for dinner..."

We all groaned. Loudly.

Jeremy looked at me. "I told you this would happen."

"Oh c'mon guys, he's really changed. I think you'll like him this time around." Jenna said, looking around the table at each of us. "You'll have to let me know when you're all free." We all looked reluctant. "And please be nice, for me?"

"Yeah, ok, for you." Elena caved, but it wasn't going be so easy with Jeremy and I. We knew the dick was on Tinder. "We should get going."

I nodded and pushed back in my chair.

"So what's our plan?" Jeremy asked me as we walked towards the car. "I mean, we are going to expose this dick, right?"

"Of course, but we've got to be careful. We don't want him running Jenna out of town again." I replied as I opened the car door.

"What are you two talking about?" Elena asked as she got in the driver's side.

"We found Logan Fell on Tinder." I told her.

"What were you doing on Tinder?"

I looked at Jeremy. "We were… setting Matt up." She gave me an odd look. "He likes cougars now."

"There are a lot of weirdo's on there. I was very surprised by our results." Jeremy said, leaning forward from the back seat. "We need to take this guy down before Jenna gets too serious about him."

"Maybe it's just an old account." Elena suggested.

"Or maybe we need to remind him what happens if he messes with Jenna." I said, punching my fist into the palm of my hand.

"Like that would work." Elena snorted.

"We'll bring Matt in on it, Logan won't know what hit him." Jeremy pitched.

"Exactly, the dream team. Maybe we could get Stefan to join too." I said, but noticed my twin squirm at the mention of his name. "Stefan..." I repeated to see if it got the same effect. "Stefan..."

"Stop it." Elena snapped at me.

Jeremy and I exchanged a glance.

"Are you and Stefan... ok?" Jeremy asked.

"We broke up." Elena revealed, keeping her eyes on the road.

"...Awkward." Jeremy said from the back.

"Why?"

"It's complicated." Elena replied, but gave me a knowing look, obviously she couldn't explain in front of Jeremy.

We arrived at the station where we were each taken in one at a time. Jeremy went in first. We wanted it to be over pretty quickly for him. I waited outside with Elena. She looked sad. I know before it all came out, Stefan had made her very happy.

"So," I started. "want to talk about it?"

"There's not much to say, it's for the best." Elena murmured quietly.

"It wasn't his fault." I said.

"I know that, but what he is, Mia, I can't-" She stopped and looked up. "It's too much."

"For what it's worth, I thought Stefan was a really good guy."

Elena didn't want to speak more on it so we spent the rest of our waiting in silence. When Jeremy came out, he seemed ok much to our relief. He didn't want to stick around and who could blame him?

I decided to go in next and it was a little awkward being interrogated by Caroline's mom, the sheriff, Liz Forbes. We went over the basics and I was doing pretty well in keeping to our story.

"So Stefan got involved because Elena asked him to?" Liz asked, looking up from her notes.

"That is correct." I replied. "She's Matt sister so we wanted to make sure she was ok."

"Any signs of aggression or violence?"

"No, ma'am."

"So you believe Vicki really has left town?"

"From personal experience, sometimes it's just easier."

Liz took off her glasses and offered me a soft smile. "I'm glad to see you back, Amelia. I know Caroline is happy to have you back."

Liz was a close friend of my parents and she was really there for us after their death. She even kept in touch when I was away, making sure I was ok despite it not being her job.

"Thanks, Liz. It's good to be back."

"I think I have all I need. Can you send Elena in?"

I nodded and left the room. "You're up, twin." I said as I passed Elena.

"How did it go?" She asked me, standing up.

"All good." I told her. "I'm going to wait outside."

I walked outside, looking down at my feet as I went down the stairs.

"Been called down to the police station, you naughty girl." I heard him tut.

"Urgh, it's you." I replied and attempted to pass him, but unsurprisingly, he side stepped me.

"Hello, Mia, what an unexpected, but welcomed surprise." A smile played on Damon's lips.

I crossed my arms which only made his smile grow. "We are next to a police station, and I know the sheriff personally. You're not going to want to mess with me today, Damon." I warned him with my hands on my hips.

"You're adorable when you get all sassy."

I looked at him flatly. "What are you doing here?" He was holding a box in his hand. I leaned in to see what it was, but he moved it away out of my reach.

"Ah, ah, ah, nosy."

"What are you up to?" I asked, suspiciously.

"I'm just exploring my new community, Mia." He walked around me. "I quite like it here. The town is small, the people," he glanced down at me. "aren't so bad." I met his gaze. "How's your arm?"

"Fine." I replied, surprised that he cared enough to ask us.

"Good."

"So, you're sticking around?"

"Looks like it, don't look too thrilled."

"And Stefan? You're going to make peace with him?" He continued to smile making me think that wasn't his intention. "How can you be so hateful towards your brother?"

"Well, when you've been alive as long as we have."

"I don't care how old you are, family is family."

Damon's hand reached behind me and clasped over my lower back, pulling me forward, into him. I was about to ask what the hell he was doing when I realised someone had been running and had almost knocked into me if Damon hadn't pulled me out the way, but it didn't explain why he didn't let go once the guy had passed. Damon's eyes traced my face against like I had noticed he had done many times. Every time he did it, I wanted to know what he was thinking.

"You made me look like a crazy woman to Jenna last night." I told him, taking a step back.

"You are a crazy woman; you invited a vampire into your house."

"Like I've said before, that was Elena." I told him sternly.

"You invited one into your bedroom." He smirked.

"I didn't invite you, you invited yourself… and then you stole my ice cream."

As Damon went to reply, his eyes were drawn elsewhere. Whoever it was, he mockingly waved at them. I turned round to see my twin at the top of the stairs and she did not look happy to see Damon.

"Good luck explaining this one." Damon said. "You should probably leave out the part where you have a crush on me."

"You're the one who keeps following me and turning up everywhere."

"Let's not pretend that you don't want me to." He said as he started to move past me. "Elena." He drawled as he passed her on the stairs.

She ignored him and continued towards me.

"I'm in trouble." I grumbled, seeing her charge towards me... Damon turned round and winked at me. I forgot his super hearing power.

"Mia, what the hell do you think you're doing?" Elena demanded.

"I was waiting for you!" I replied innocently.

"Why were you talking to him?"

"He was talking to me!" I defended, moving in the direction of our car.

"He's dangerous." Elena continued, power walking behind me.

"I know that."

"So we're agreed, we don't talk to him?"

"Sure, whatever." I said as I got into the car. "Bonnie texted me, she's on her way over to our house."

Elena nodded and pulled out of the parking lot. I could feel her bad mood fill up the car.

You traitor, you left me in the car with it! I sent to Jeremy.

Hahahaha - Jeremy replied.

Mia: I'm pretty sure it's her time of the month too, I'm screwed!

Jeremy: Did not need to know that

Mia: You needed to be warned!

Jeremy: Is she that bad?

"Mia, can you please not do that?" Elena suddenly snapped.

"Do what?!" I exclaimed. "Breathing?"

"No one breathes that loudly." she scowled.

Mia: She just told me off for breathing

Jeremy: Whoa, what a bitch

Mia: I know right.

Jeremy: You know what we need to do right?

Mia: What?

Jeremy: Tinder!

I laughed at my brother and this didn't sit too well with the twin.

"What?" Elena erupted. I clicked on the video button and decided to send my brother proof in what I was having to put up with.

"Nothing, jeez!" I replied, wide eyed at her. "What the hell is your problem?"

"You're just being really annoying today." She huffed.

"I haven't done anything!"

The recording I was doing then decided to go automatically on play back mode and Elena yelling at me echoed in the car. I kept pressing buttons to stop it, but it was too late.

"You were recording me!?"

"No! It's touch screen, sometimes… it just has a mind of its own!" She looked furious. "Alright, pull over; I'll walk the rest of the way home."

"Stop being stupid." Elena said, rolling her eyes.

"Well then stop being a bitch!"

Needless to say when we arrived home, Elena slammed the car door and stormed into the house. As I walked in from behind, Jenna watched Elena go up the stairs.

"What did you do?" Jenna asked me.

"Nothing! Elena and Stefan have broken up and I was the target."

"And you didn't provoke her, at all?" Jenna raised a brow.

"I have video evidence that I didn't."

Bonnie came over not long after. "Hey." she greeted as I opened the door. She scanned the hallway before glancing up the stairs. "How's she doing?"

"Oh Bonnie, it is not good, she's been a nightmare." I revealed.

"Hi Bonnie." Elena greeted sweetly, now appearing at the stairs.

"She doesn't seem it." Bonnie leaned in and whispered to me.

"I have video evidence." I whispered to her.

"Hey." Bonnie said, going into the hug Elena had welcomed her in. What was going on? Why wasn't she mean to Bonnie too? "How are you feeling?"

"We're not talking about it." Elena said sternly, but still with a smile. "I just need you to take my mind off it."

"I can do that." Bonnie said, smiling. "I have something I want to show you guys." Bonnie made her own way to our staircase. "But I need to swear you both to secrecy."

"Ok..." I offered, following Bonnie up the stairs.

She went into Elena's room and patted on the bed for us to sit down. She then reached for one of Elena's pillows and ripped into it, pouring all the feathers onto the bed.

"I'm glad we didn't do this in my room." I said, looking at the mess.

"I shouldn't be showing this to you, but I can't hide anything from you two." Bonnie said, looking around the room. "Ok, so there are no windows open, right?"

I looked at Bonnie strangely. "No..."

"There's no fan, no air conditioning." Bonnie continued. "Grams showed me this; you're both going to love it." I moved my legs so that I was comfortable as I watched Bonnie. She looked down at one of the feathers and hovered her hand above it.

Slowly, she started moving her hand up and as her hand moved, so did the feather.

"What the-" I muttered as I watched her raise the feather into the air. She lowered the feather and looked back at us, with a smile on her face. "Wizard!"

"Bonnie… what's going on?" Elena asked, looking extremely freaked out.

Bonnie rubbed her hands together and hovered both hands above the feathers and lifted even more into the air. I choked because that's how stunned I was. I shouldn't be this surprised after finding out vampires existed this week, but wow. She lowered the feathers and looked back at us, looking for signs of approval. It was then all the feathers were floating in the air without her even having to move a finger. "It's true, everything my grams told me, it's impossible and it's true. I'm a witch."

"I believe you." Elena laughed as she watched the feathers float around her.

"We," I corrected her. "we believe you."

"It's weird huh? Joking all this time about being psychic… I really am a witch." We all chuckled, "You don't think I'm a freak now, do you?"

"Not at all! Now we can take over the school like we always talked about!" They laughed, but I was being serious!

"I've got to go, I told grams I would join her for lunch." Bonnie begun to get up. "Remember, don't tell a soul." She warned us before she walked out the door.

I laid back on the bed and glanced at Elena. "Well, that makes me feel crap. Do you think we should tell her?"

"I don't want to drag someone else into this, it's bad enough we now know." Elena sighed heavily, grabbing the covers and hiding underneath it. "Why did I come out?"

"Dude, you can't hide forever." I said as I tried to tug the covers away from her. "You'll just get angrier and angrier and end up taking it out on innocent bystanders."

Elena removed the covers and glared at me. "Innocent bystanders? As in, you?"

"Maybe." I replied, taking the covers fully away from her. "Look, you're miserable without him, why don't you go talk to him?"

"He's a vampire, Mia."

"We all have our faults." I slid off the bed and grabbed onto her arm. "C'mon, you're going to see him."

"No, I'm not, stop it."

"You'll thank me for this later." I pulled her off the bed and dragged her out of her room.

"I wouldn't know what to say!"

"Just sing a Taylor Swift song." I replied, now pulling her on the stairs. "That always works. If not, you have a whole ten minute car journey to come up with something." I threw her outside the house.

"Amelia!" She turned to face me from outside, but I slammed the door in her face.

Jenna was leaning against the staircase, watching me with her arms folded and brows raised.

"I'm such a good sister." I said to Jenna.

"No you're not!" I heard Elena call out from behind the door.

"I don't hear the car starting." I shot back.

"You're making her see Stefan?" Jenna asked me, I nodded. "I wish you were that supportive of me and Logan."

"There's a difference, Stefan is a good guy, Logan, isn't." I replied. I was ready to tell her when my phone started to buzz. "Hello?" I answered it and walked up the stairs.

"Hey, Mia, I'm throwing a party tonight at the Mystic Grill, you're coming." Caroline rushed out.

"How do you know I don't have plans already? Being a social butterfly and all."

"I'm not taking no for an answer. It's at the grill, 7pm." Caroline said. "I'll see you tonight!"

Later that night

"Looking sharp, Matthew." I said as I met Matt outside the grill. "Do you know why Caroline's throwing a random party here tonight?"

"Nope, but I was threatened to show up." Matt replied as we walked in together.

"You're the life of the party, of course you had to show up." He laughed. "Now you have to say something nice back."

"Uh..."

"Why are you hesitating? There are a lot of nice things you could say about me." He pulled an awkward face at me. "C'mon Matthew, we've been friends for fifteen years! Fifteen!"

"You do look good naked." Matt said with a smirk.

"Just because you've seen my twin naked, doesn't mean you've seen me naked, that's not how it works."

"Hi guys! Glad you could make it!" The hostess, Caroline, appeared, bubbly as always.

"Not that we had much of a choice." Matt replied.

Caroline just smiled. "You look great, Matt and nice touch with the short skirt, Mia." she winked and headed off.

"It's not that short." I murmured, tugging it downwards.

Matt looked down at me. "She basically just called you a slut."

I pushed him. "No she didn't."

He chuckled and nudged me back with his shoulder. "So, where's Elena?"

"I don't know if she's coming or not." I replied. "Her and Stefan broke up which means you're back in the running, Matthew! I could put in a good word."

"We're still yet to get over the awkwardness." Matt told me. "What about you and Ty? I heard he gave you a lift home." He raised his brows.

"No funny business, he just gave me a lift." He continued to raise his brows like he didn't believe me. "What?"

"Nothing." Matt shrugged and we headed over to the bar. "Do you remember how funny our double dates used to be?"

"I do, I actually really miss that." I leaned against the bar and looked for the bartender. "Maybe when all the awkwardness has gone, we'll go out as the four of us, just friends."

Some guys from the football team arrived so Matt went over and had a chat with them. I still waited for the bartender and texted my twin to see if she was coming tonight. I wonder if she got as far as Stefan's house earlier.

"This is getting a bit silly, Mia, don't you think?" I rolled my eyes and didn't look at him.

"Go away."

"No need to be rude Mia, it's not my fault you're not very subtle." I felt his arm brush against my mine as he took a seat in the stall next to me. I ignored him and continued to look for the bartender. "That's not going to work, you know, you need to flash a bit more cleavage to get his attention." My head whipped round to him, opened mouth. "You have the right idea with that skirt."

"Ok, what is everyone's deal with my skirt? It is not that short." I scowled, tugging it down.

"It's not short enough if you ask me."

"Well I didn't." I replied. "What are you doing here anyway?"

"I was invited." Damon and gave the bartender a nod of the head and was instantly brought over a drink. Damon winked at me as he took downed it.

"Caroline hates you." I said to him questioningly.

"She doesn't hate." Damon replied. "Do you?" I turned my head to see who he was looking at and Caroline was right behind me. "Hello Caroline."

"Hey! Amazing party! Right?" She asked him, her face begging for his approval. What the hell was going on? Does she not remember… I looked back at Damon. Of course she doesn't.

"Glad you thought of it." The cheesiest smile I have ever seen spread on Damon's face. Caroline looked confused for a moment. So this was Damon's idea? Why?

"Are you having a good time?" Caroline asked him.

"Do you have my crystal?" The cheesy smile still on his face as if he were talking to an eight year old.

"No."

Damon's smile faded as soon as she said this. "Then I'm not having a good time."

"What is wrong with you?" I asked him.

"Mia, that's rude." Caroline scowled me instead.

"I'm not being rude, he's the rude one."

Damon just smirked at me. "I think Mia's thirsty, why don't you go get her something to drink?"

"Ok!"

I watched in disbelief as Caroline wandered off in the direction off the bartender who happened to be at the other end of the bar.

"Remind me to get her some... of that stuff."

"You mean vervain?" Damon said, his hand reaching over and brushing my hair back over his shoulder.

I grabbed his hand and pushed it back towards him. "Yeah, that. You're such a dick to her."

Damon opened his mouth to speak again when something caught his eye past me. I tried turning round to see what it was, but I didn't spot anything out of the ordinary. "Excuse me." He said, and put his hand on my shoulder as he passed me.

"Thank god." I said out loud, hoping he'd hear it.

His seat wasn't left open for long.

"I am so not in the partying mood." Bonnie said, dropping down in the seat next to me. "Why did we come again?"

"Caroline made us. Speak of the devil." Caroline was returning with my drink.

"Where's Damon?" Caroline asked, looking around.

"I don't know." I replied, "He went that way." I pointed off in the direction I saw Damon go in.

"You're still seeing that guy?" Bonnie scowled at her.

"I am, but-" Caroline turned to me just as I was taking a sip of my drink. "You really need to stop hitting on him."

My drink threatened to come back up. I had to cover my mouth. "What?!" I squeaked. "Me hit on him?"

"That's what he said." Caroline stated, hands on hips.

"He said what!?" I exclaimed. "He is a liar, Caroline and I am very insulted by that accusation."

"Mia wouldn't do that, Caroline." Bonnie jumped to my defence. Caroline turned to Bonnie to argue back, but then she turned the necklace hanging from Bonnie's neck.

"My crystal." Caroline whispered. "Bonnie, I need it back."

"Why? You said you hated it?" Bonnie replied, looking down at it.

"But then I saw it on you and realised how great it is and I have three outfits I can coordinate it with." Caroline was never that good of an actress. Damon wanted it, but the question was why?

"I can't give it to you." Bonnie replied. It's like she knew who it was meant for too. I felt awkward standing in between them as I knew Caroline wasn't going to take this well.

"Ok… well I didn't want to have to tell you this, but I'm your friend. When you wear it, it makes you look fat."

I gasped. "Oh snap."

Bonnie's face immediately scrunched up into anger. If Caroline wanted the crystal back, that definitely was not the right way to go about it. "I'm sorry Caroline, I can't give it to you." Bonnie replied through clenched teeth.

"What do you mean you can't?" Caroline snapped. "Bonnie, it's mine."

"I thought you said it was Damon's?"

"Well it is, but-"

"So he's the one who really wants it back?" Bonnie questioned which made Caroline get even more flustered.

"No-" She paused, "-maybe." She then went to grab it from Bonnie's neck, but just like when Damon tried yesterday, it gave her a shock. "Ow," she hissed, pulling her hand back. "Are you wearing polyester?" I wonder if that was Bonnie's witchy power that was doing that to people.

"You were really going to pull it from my neck?" Bonnie looked both hurt and angry. "What the hell is wrong with you?" Bonnie walked away.

I shook my head at Caroline and begun to get up from my stool. "Just so we're clear," I told her, "It's Damon you should tell to back off of me."

Caroline still ended up glaring at me and storming off. I really needed to figure out a way to save her from Damon.
