Ice
The snow crunched under Gajeel's feet as he walked home from the train station. His small Exceed flew above the ground to avoid his little paws from touching the freezing snow. A long mission left Gajeel and his partner tired, cold and desperate to get home.
The cold hit Gajeel's nose in a sharp wind and he heard Pantherlily shiver beside him. "Don't worry Lil, we're almost home" he tried to console.
"Ho- home?" The small cat stammered. "Y-you mean where there's ni-nice warm blankets? W-what made you think I was wishing for that?"
"Gihihi. 'Cause I'm thinking the same thing." The slayer laughed. "This weather is fucking ridiculous."
Lily's teeth began to chatter.
"How are you this cold?" Gajeel asked sharply. "You're covered in fur." He looked at his cat's thick black coat of plush fur covering the exceed from head to toe.
Pantherlily shot him a glare. "It-t's not as waa-rm as you may th-think."
Gajeel simply chuckled in response.
Two blocks until home. That's all they had.
While the pair crossed the middle of town a familiar blue head of hair caught the dragon slayer's eye from across the street. Gajeel watched the petite girl as she nuzzled a pile of but books in her chest. He couldn't help but to call out to her.
"HEY SHRIMP! Gajeel shouted. She looked up instantly; a small smile crept on her red face.
"Gajeel!" She exclaimed. "You're back!"
She stepped through a small pile of snow and began to carefully cross the street. Ice covered every inch of the pathway from her to him, so it wasn't a complete surprise when her balance wavered and she tumbled to the ground, her books flying every which way.
"Levy!" Gajeel yelled as he hopped the snow pile that blocked him from the Exceed , not paying any attention to his partner warning him to be careful. When Gajeel was close enough to help her up, he too found himself struggling to stay up. Maintaining his balance he grabbed her hand. With the little strength it took to lift her up, she now stood in front of him, her hands holding his arms and his hold her waist, she stared into his red eyes, as he stated into her hazel ones. Both the cold and embarrassment stained her cheeks red.
"Thank you" she squeaked as he looked down at her. Gajeel could see her breathe coming from her lips as she spoke.
"We should grab your books." He mumbled, quickly removing his hands from her waist and looking away. They moved around the street collecting each book, then slowly made their way to Lily.
As Gajeel was about to hand Levy her books back, she started to, once again, lose her balance on the ice. The raven reached out to grab her hand and his stability began to falter as well. The two slipped and fell into a the pile of snow on the side of the road.
"Are you two alright?" Lily asked, but was drowned out by the two lying in front of him laughing.
Gajeel was the first to get up. "Don't worry Shrimp, none of your books got wet," he chuckled while pulling her with one arm and holding her books in the other.
Levy smiled. "Thanks for that." He handed her her books back. "I'm even more frozen than I was before though."
"Where are you off to?" Lily chimed in.
"Fairy Hills," the blunette sighed.
"No." Gajeel stated that's too far. You're coming over to our place."
"Are you sure?" She asked receiving a small nod in response. "Okay then, thanks."
She hadn't expected his place to be so cozy. Gajeel had lit the fire place, immediately warming the house while Lily went to find Levy a change of clothes.
"You wanna take off your coat?" The slayer asked softly. "We can hang it up to dry."
Levy blushed. "Yeah. Sure" she squeaked while taking off her coat, revealing the sopping wet sweater stuck to her body.
"Levy!" Lilly called from another room. "I found some that might fit you!"
Throwing her coat at Gajeel she ran to Lily.
She stared at the sweatpants and shirt in front of her. "Lily. These are huge!" she giggled.
"Well they are the smallest I could find that's not my size" the cat announced. "I think you and I both know Gajeel is a rather large man."
"True" she called as Lilly walked out of the room.
It felt good to finally get the soaked clothes off, but the baggy ones she slipped into had not been much more comfortable. As she stepped out of the room and was greeted by the warm, sugary scent of chocolate.
Levy walked into the kitchen, holding the large pants up as she walked. Gajeel smiled at her with an expression in his eyes she'd never seen before.
There was a mix of kindness and desire in them. A light blush touched his cheeks before he mumbled something about her looking nice.
It's was Levy's turn to blush. Her small cheeks grew hot as she tried to avoid eye contact with the burly man in front of her.
Lily, a sensing the awkward tension, spoke up.
"Levy, Gajeel and I have made hot chocolate. Would you like some?"
"Of course I would." She smiled, trying her best to shake off the flames on her cheeks.
She watched as Gajeel poured some of the hot liquid into a ceramic mug. His fingers tightened around the handle when she reached for it.
"It's hot," he warned "be careful."
Levy nodded and happily took the mug from his hand, trying to ignore the scalding liquid that splashed out and was now rolling down her fingers. They spent the rest of the day there, quiet, content and happily sipping.
Like I said, i was sick so this isn't my best work, but I still hope you enjoyed it.
Let me know what you think and Happy Holidays
