Naturally they had enemies waiting for them as they entered the building, but Booker and Charles made quick work of that. They head into the elevator quickly before any other enemies showed up and the doors slid closed.
"So" Elizabeth said "Looks like they call you the False Shepard and his disciple"
"And you the lamb" Booker says
They all fall silent for a few seconds before Charles speaks up "Let's… just not call each other that"
"Sounds good to me"
"How could they know we were coming?" Elizabeth wonders out loud
"Either they have a prophet on their side…"
"Har har" she says as Charles rolls his eyes, walking out when the doors open
"Or the person who hired me wrote the signs"
"Or the person who hired me" Charles adds
"You know who?"
"No, I was just told it was some tall guy. That's it"
They all entered the Airship and Elizabeth looked around it as the men went to the controls
Charles picks up a red wrench that was laying on the console and examines it
"New weapon?" Booker jokes
He scoffs at the idea "A wrench? Please" he lays it back down and walks behind the chair, to lean on it
"I want to see Paris" Elizabeth sighs, walking to them as Booker turns the levers "I want to see…everything…"
The ship turns as Booker enters the location of New York, Charles was halfway through reading a book on entering destinations back home
'Need to finish that' he thinks
"Well that's up to you" Booker tells her "There's no one-"
"Wait" Elizabeth says "What it that?! 40 north by 74 west. That's not Paris, that's New York," she says, looking at the two
"How did you know that?" Booker asks, shock in his voice
"One thing I had in that tower was time, time to study things like Geography!" she says, crossing her arms
"I owed money and there's a fellow… he offered to wipe my debt away in exchange for you"
She slowly uncrosses her arms, shocked, and then covers her face, starting to cry
"Booker I told you not to do this…" Charles says
"You knew?! And you didn't say anything?!" Elizabeth asks him, shocked
"I… Elizabeth I didn't want to lie but…"
She starts crying again, covering her face as she does. Charles looks at Booker, both unsure of what to do. Charles steps away and goes behind her, Booker going to his side
"Elizabeth" he says, putting a gentle hand on her shoulder "I'm sorry, but everything will be ok"
She lowers her hands and starts to turn
"Can we please just talk about-"
Then she swung the wrench and hit him in the face, making him drop. The last thing he remembered was seeing Booker fall to the ground beside him. Then everything went dark
The first thing that registered was a ringing sound in his ears, then the metallic taste of blood in his mouth, then the wound it came from. It didn't feel to big, he guessed because she wasn't too skilled in weapons. He'd probably have to take back what he said about wrenches earlier.
He struggled to pry his eyes open and when he did, he saw men breaking rocks and felt wind start to whip around. Putting two and two together took a few seconds; he was hanging out of the airship!
"WHAT THE HELL?!" he yells
"Hey, glad you're awake"
He looks over and sees Booker being held out too, obviously worried off falling face first out like Charles was. Both are turned around to reveal two African American men holding them out, not looking to happy to see them.
"They're awake Daisy" one said
A lady stands up and walks over to them
"So, you're the men we've been hearing so much about. Caused a mess of trouble at the raffle"
"I was doing what I thought had to be done" Charles says
"Threatening death of Fink? Not a bad strategy"
She was wearing a white, long sleeved shirt with what seemed like a red scarf around it. She wore brown pants, with overalls on over her shoulders along with boots. Charles had never seen a woman wearing pants before, mostly long skirts. She wasn't dressed like a typical lady back home, more like a man, like himself
"You Fitzroy?" Booker asks
"Nothing but" she says, stopping by Charles, looking at them both
"We got no quarrel with you or your Vox Populi. But this is our airship you're hanging the two of us from and we have precious need of it"
"Really? Cause it sure looks like old Comstock's airship to me"
"We obviously fought our way through his brainwashed people to steal it, doesn't seem the kind to miss one little airship" Charles says, Daisy raising an eyebrow when she hears his sarcasm
"Shut it Charles" Booker mutters to him before looking at Daisy again "Look, we ain't looking for a fight with you"
"There's already a fight, only question is whose side are you on?"
"I prefer not to mix up with power struggles" Charles says
"Well you better change that thought while you're here. Seems you don't care for Comstock anyway"
"Just because I can't stand him doesn't mean I want to join a group to run off and murder him. Doing that would just get me killed"
"But you'd die a hero"
"I'd die as a madman" the tone of his voice was serious
"You seem smart but you don't seem to get it. Comstock is the god of the white man, the rich man, the pitiless man but if you believe in common folk, then join the vox. If you believe in the righteous folk, then join the vox!"
"We just want the airship" Booker says
"And the vox shall give her to you, but first, you must help the vox" she takes out a card and stuffs it in Booker's pocket "There's a gunsmith who can supply weapons to our cause, get our guns and you'll get your airship back" she nods to the men and they let the two go. Both fall back and hit something hard, red momentarily flashing in their eyes. Charles rolls onto his stomach, sucking in breath as he sees they're in a shipping yard
Booker stands up and offers Charles a hand up, which he accepts. Charles stretches, getting out all the cracks he feels in his back
"First things first, we have to find Elizabeth"
"I hope you realize that if we hadn't lied, which I wanted, she wouldn't have smashed us with a wrench" Charles says, feeling the cut on his head
"And if I'd listened to you, she'd have seen Slate be shot"
Charles stares at him "What's your meaning of that?"
"Look, I'm not turning on you or anything but you're first thought was to kill him right in front of her. He had nothing left to be considered a threat"
"You don't know that, Comstock could probably find ways to make him useful"
"You know that's bullshit"
"One lesson I learned was keep future threats in mind, especially if you have people you want to stay safe, and that's the two of you"
Booker turns to Charles, who looks deadly serious
"You want me to say it? Fine, I wouldn't be this far without you helping me. I've got a temper; you saw my first instinct with Slate. I'd still do it if I had the choice now. It's how I was taught"
"Just because you were taught that doesn't mean it's the only way, I learned that a long time ago. You know what I mean"
He shakes his head slowly
"Now enough of this" he says, shaking it off "We have to find her before anyone else does"
Charles nods and both walk in, looking for her. Charles sees a large sign of Fink's face and sighs
"Did not miss that ugly mug of his" he sighs
"Still want to throw a baseball in his face?"
"More like this skyhook" he comments as they climb up the stairs
They get to a couple of side doors and Booker slides one open, revealing Elizabeth who was thrown off a ship. She sees them and runs up the stairs, both of them running after her
"Just stop for a minute!" Charles yells
"Just stay away from me!" she yells, putting up a barrier in front of them
"We just want to talk to you!" Booker yells
"I said stay away!" she opens a tear that makes balloons fall on them but it shrinks away as they continue to follow her
"We aren't angry with you!" Charles yells to her but she opens a tear with a marching band to block them further
She opens the door and opens a tear of a passing train, as they got closer to her. She opens another one but then two men grab her
"NO!" Charles runs towards it but it shuts before he reaches it
"Damn it, come on!" Booker jumps on the skyline, Charles close behind
Some men begin to shoot at them but they execute them quickly, running to Elizabeth. The men start at them but the two shoot them fast. She begins running again, as they get close to her they suddenly a handyman, who grabs the two and throws them at a box. They smash into it and grabs onto the ropes, however, they see the handyman throw something to cut the ropes
"No no no no no" Charles mutters under his breath as they ropes cut, causing them both to start falling
However, a large object with hanging ropes suddenly appears, allowing them to grab onto it
"Ok, that was nothing like the zeppelin, so don't you dare bring that up" Charles says, through deep breaths
"I can do that…"
They see Elizabeth standing by them as it floats up to her
"H...hey we're slipping!"
"Do not try to follow me anymore!"
"Elizabeth, we made an arrangement to get our airship back!"
"You can get us out of here?"
"Yes, we just need to supply enough weapons to arm an entire uprising" Charles says in a fast voice
"And where will we get these weapons?" she asks, sarcastically "From one of our many friends"
"Oh har har, a gunsmith in that place should be a walk in the park"
"That's the plan, what do you say – Partners?" Booker asks, holding out a hand
She hesitates for a moment "You're both liars and thugs… but you're also my only means of reaching Paris…" she looks at them and grabs Booker's hand, pulling him to safety before doing the same to Charles. He tried to distract himself from thinking about how soft her hand was compared to his as he steps away from the edge
"Thanks… Elizabeth, I seriously didn't mean to lie to you, sorry…" he says
She looks at him, then sighs "Do it again and I'll let you fall over the edge"
"Now more lying, got it" he nods
They all go and enter the doors to Finkerton
"Let's see how much he missed us"
