Chapter 11: Intruders

Later, at the castle, Sonic was having trouble sleeping. Walking outside, he heard a rustle and saw Swift coming out as well.

"I'm still used to you being a griffin," Sonic said as his son drew up to him.

Swift smiled and flapped his wings. "I like this new adult dragon form," he said.

"Do you truly like it, or is it just because you can now fight?" Sonic asked.

"I really like it."

Sonic smiled. "I miss you as a griffin, but you seem to be adjusting well," he said, then looked off into the forest with a frown.

"What's wrong?" Swift asked.

"Lancelot and Lamorak were suppose to report back a while ago, but I haven't heard from them. I'm getting worried," said the king.

A few minutes later, the two ghosts materialized in front of him.

"We can only stay for a few minutes to bring you news," Lancelot said.

"You're gonna have to do without two knights," Lamorak added, looking grim.

"That's okay," Sonic said. "What did you learn?"

"Mordred cursed the werewolves. They serve him now. I don't think any simple magic Nimue comes up with could break this," Lamorak said.

"We'll see if she can. Anything else?" The two ghosts looked at each other. Sonic could see something was wrong. "What did he say?" the kind asked, sharply. The two continued to be silent, so Sonic pulled his red card. "I ORDER you to tell me what he said."

Lancelot gulped and spoke. "The spell has grown stronger."

Sonic was about to speak when Lamorak cut in. "And...he said your son was next."

The griffin screeched in anger and flew off.

"Dad!" Swift yelled, but Sonic was long gone.

The two ghosts sighed.

"I was afraid of that," Lancelot said.

"What's going on out here?" someone called behind them. Swift turned to see his mom come out of the castle.

"Dad flew off," Swift told her.

"Why? I just heard him screech and came out to see what's up," his mom said.

"I told him that Mordred wants your son," Lancelot said.

Percival saw that it was fading, along with Lamorak. "Wait! He's coming for our son?!" she called, but the two ghosts vanished. She turned to Swift.

He nodded. "It's true."

"So what about Sonic? What's he going to do?"

"I don't know where he's going."

Percival looked up at the sky. "I hope he won't do something stupid."

The griffin screeched as he flew through the air. He had to think.

Not my son, he thought to himself.

The king sighed and screeched again, flapping his great wings. He had to keep Swift safe at all costs. Sonic started to fly back to castle when he noticed something below him. It was the two wolves. They were hunting in the forest and getting close to the castle.

"Oh boy, this should be fun," he sighed. The griffin swooped down and landed on front of them. They growled and laid their ears back. "Back off before I rip your fur out," he growled back at them.

"We are just hunting," Knuckles said telepathically.

Sonic scoffed. "You really think I don't know? I have many ways, or did you forget that when you changed sides?" he snapped.

The two wolves growled and took a step forwards. "You won't stop us. Our master demands Swift and we shall have him," Galahad snarled

Sonic glared at them. "I will not allow you to kidnap my son. Why does Mordred want him so bad?"

"That is none of your business. Now move!" Knuckles growled, springing forward.

The griffin dodged the attack and leapt to the sky, flapping his wings and looking down upon the two wolves. "Intruder alert! Need backup now!" The king called, flying for the castle.

His knights came to his aid immediately.

"What do you want, my King?" Blaze asked.

"The two werewolves have come to the castle. They want my son, and I shall not allow it. Mordred's other followers may be on their way, so we must be ready," said the king.

Blaze bowed, as did Silver and the other knights, and Sonic looked at them.

"What do you want us to..." Silver asked, but was cut off by howling. The Pegasus looked up to see the two wolves.

"Stop them, and anything that might come with them" Sonic ordered, swooping down.

The Knights nodded and ran off. Shadow looked at Sonic.

"What do you want me to do, my King?" The Phoenix asked.

"Get Lancelot and Lamorak. I don't know what to do with them but I know we'll need their help," Sonic replied.

The phoenix nodded, and vanished to go to the Underworld. It saw the two ghosts and looked at them.

"Shadow, what are you doing here?" Lancelot asked.

"King Sonic needs your help," Shadow said. Lancelot looked at him puzzled.

"What can two ghosts do to help him now?" he asked.

The phoenix shrugged. "The king didn't say, he just told me to come here and ask for your help."

"We can't do much," Lamorak said.

"But we must do what he says. He must have a reason," Lancelot said. He turned to Shadow. "We shall come at once."

Shadow nodded, and the three vanished from the Underworld.
