EXT. MCKINLEY FOOTBALL FIELD – SUN JUN 16 – AFTERNOON
Fourteen men lined up on the center line of the football field. Seven of them were wearing red jerseys, the others wore white. The red team was comprised of Burt Hummel, Niall Schuester, Russel Fabray, James Anderson, Al Motta, Clifford Rose, and Reid Abrams. The white team was comprised of Harry Lynn, Rusty Pillsbury, Don Puckerman, LeRoy Berry, Mike Chang Sr., Dwight Evans, and Rob Adams. Standing between them all was the adult referee: Hiram Berry. Standing at the corners of the field were the student referees: Sam, Ryder, Puck, and Mike.
Hiram's whistle sounded. Burt, the quarterback for the red team, called the play. Niall Schuester snapped the ball, and Burt threw the ball to the agile running back, Clifford Rose; however, Clifford wasn't fast enough for the ball, which landed in the arms of Dwight Evans, who sprinted as fast as he could to the end of the field, scoring a touchdown for the white team.
"White 13, Red 12!" Hiram shouted.
"Nice run, dad!" Sam exclaimed, high-fiving his father.
"Alright, dad, you're down one. I don't know what Finn would tell you, since I was on the football team for all of a week, but keep playing clean, and I think a field goal will be the key to tying this thing," Kurt said, massaging Burt's back.
"Gosh, football with the guys," Burt said in his head. "I never thought I'd get these adrenaline rushes again. Who knew these kids had it in them to plan this amazing Father's Day gift? I think we all owe it to Sugar Motta, who spearheaded this little surprise."
"Daddies! Lemonade time!" Sugar cheered, serving refreshments to all the dads.
Niall Schuester happily took a cup, thinking about the start of the week.
INT. SCHUESTER APARTMENT – SAT JUN 15 – MORNING
Will and Emma invited their parents over for breakfast. It was a much more peaceful gathering than the last time both families were together; that is, of course, until Rusty Fabray raised the ultimate question.
"So are you two thinking about having kids?" he asked. "Who knows, maybe you two will actually be mother and father by the next Mother's Day and Father's Day."
"Dad, I don't think this is the appropriate time for—" Emma stammered.
"Well, I'm quite curious about that myself," Rosemary Schuester interjected. "I mean, we're getting old. The Pillsbury family already has grandkids, right?"
"A blonde girl, still waiting on a ginger," Rusty specified.
"Well, yes. See, we're getting old, and I want grandbabies. We should've had one years ago if only that dratted Terri didn't—"
"Mom, let's leave the past in the past, please," Will said.
"Well, this is a very serious question," Rusty said. "Like I told you, Will, the hardest part will be our daughter's OCD that drives everyone nuts while she's pregnant, while she's in labor, while she's raising the kid."
"We know that our little girl has been making such good improvements with her condition, but we are still very concerned that she won't be able to handle it," Rose said.
Emma looked on the verge of tears. "Well, Will and I will keep thinking about it."
"Think fast. You know how they say conceiving gets hard after age 35. You're 35," Rose said.
"Will is already 37," Rosemary said. "You need a baby before you reach your mid-life crisis."
"Mom!" Will pleaded. "Let's please just get back to our breakfast, okay? Dad, Dad-in-Law, happy early Father's Day."
"Happy Father's Day," Emma echoed. "Love you guys."
INT. HUDSON-HUMMEL HOUSE – EVENING
"Thanks for helping with all of this, Emma," Carole said. She and Emma were getting everything sorted out for a garage sale.
"Don't worry," Emma responded. "I just love sorting things like this."
Carole giggled. "It's about time we do this. Especially with a lot of the stuff that was piling up in Finn's room. We kept all of the things that were really personal, but everything else, we're giving away. Old books, school supplies, board games, fans, stuff like that."
"Well, everything's sorted out! Do you guys have any plans for Father's Day?" Emma asked.
"Burt and Kurt and I were going to go visit the graves," Carole answered. "Put some flowers for Finn and his father, Christopher."
"That sounds nice," Emma said sweetly.
"Emma, I can tell by the look on your eyes that you have something you want to ask me," Carole laughed.
Emma blushed. "Mine and Will's parents were hounding us about whether or not we were having kids today."
Carole beamed. "Wow! Well personally I think you two should. You both would make amazing parents."
"It's just the OCD thing," Emma gulped. "My dad thinks I won't be able to handle it."
"Oh, it'll be fine," Carole said. "We all go through those rough patches when we're pregnant. You won't even remember it when the baby is born. So um… you guys haven't um…"
"Oh, no, no, no!" Emma stammered. "Nope, just thinking about it. But thank you, Carole. I need all the motherly advice I can get."
Carole smiled. "Alright, I think we can go move these boxes on over to the garage. Kurt is already down there arranging all the clothes we're selling."
"That's Kurt for you," Emma giggled, picking up the stack of board games to go down.
INT. TIRE SHOP
"Thanks for helping me out, buddy," Burt grunted, wheeling himself out from under a car.
"No problem," Will said, packing away the drills and wrenches. "Gosh, last time I worked on a car like this was when Terri got me this old car to work on to distract me from her pregnancy stunt."
"Did you end up keeping it?" Burt asked.
"No," Will said. "Wouldn't have been safe for a baby, and it was just too old for me to keep. I loved it though."
"Well, are you and Emma looking for a new ride?" Burt asked. "I know a couple people selling mini-vans if you're interested."
"We've never talked about that," Will said, thinking for a moment. "Yeah, let me know about those offers. Emma and I only have little 5-passenger cars. A van would be really good for our family, I think."
"I agree," Burt said, drilling a tire onto the car he was fixing. "I'll let you know! Speaking of family, have you two been, um, giving any thought to having kids?"
Will sighed. "Our parents have been getting on our case about that."
Burt chuckled. "I'm sure they are. My parents would not get off my case about that after my first wife and I got married. We had Kurt, but my parents live so far away upstate, we don't see them very often."
"I guess we're lucky our parents live fairly close to us," Will said. "My dad just graduated law school, actually."
"No kidding!" Burt exclaimed. "Congratulations to him. Has he been hired yet?"
"Not yet," Will said. "Just getting a part-time job to pay off his student loans and stuff before applying to any law firms, but I'm very proud of him."
"Never too late to chase your dreams," Burt agreed.
INT. THE LIMA BEAN
Sugar sat down with Quinn, Artie, and Marley.
"Don't you guys think it would be great to plan a whole day of Father's Day celebration tomorrow?" Sugar asked.
"I would, if only my father was still in my life," Quinn responded. "I know I'm not the only one."
"She's right. I haven't seen my dad in years," Marley sighed. "And Jake and his brother were totally just dumped by their dad. I don't think it's a good idea, Sugar. Those who still are involved with their dads can celebrate on their own."
"Well, we did a big surprise party for Mother's Day; I think we should do the same for our dads," Artie said.
"Fine, but don't count on us being there," Quinn sighed, sipping her coffee.
"Hey, The Lima Bean is hiring?" Marley asked, looking at a sign. "I'm trying to get a summer job. I won't be able to get a dress for junior prom unless I have my own money."
"You'll find something," Sugar said. "I can let you borrow if you like, but anyway, what should we do for Father's Day then? We can let them relive their glory days. I can ask Coach Beiste if we can reserve the school football field for them. We can have a barbecue too!"
"That sounds fun," Artie remarked. "My dad would love it for sure."
"I think it's sweet that you all are doing such a great thing for your dads," Marley said.
"Yeah, I remember how grateful my dad used to be whenever I gave him a card or something," Quinn said. "They really appreciate it."
Sugar sighed. She couldn't imagine life without her dad, so she wanted to do something special for Quinn, Marley, Jake, and Puck too.
"Well, I'll get Facebook invitations out tonight," she said.
EXT. PUCK'S FRONT DOOR
The doorbell rang. Puck hurried over to the door and opened it. It was Shelby and Beth!
"Beth! Shelby!" Puck exclaimed gleefully, welcoming them inside.
"Hi, Noah," Shelby said sweetly. "Beth got to see Quinn for Mother's Day, so I thought it was only fair that you get to see her for Father's Day."
"Thanks so much," Puck said quietly, scooping the little three-year-old into his arms.
"She still has that clown drawing you made her," Shelby giggled. "Beth, show Noah your favorite drawing!"
Beth reached into her little Dora the Explorer backpack and took out the drawing Puck made for her in senior year. "Clown!" she squeaked.
"She's so smart," Shelby laughed. "She already knows that you misspelled 'Too Beth.'"
"What a little genius," Puck laughed, tickling Beth. "She gets that from Quinn. She's so big now!"
"She is," Shelby agreed. "It scares me sometimes. It doesn't feel like that long ago that I had Rachel in December 1994, and she's already eighteen."
"Daddy, look at my map!" Beth exclaimed, showing Puck a Dora map.
Puck and Shelby eyed each other awkwardly.
"I always knew this was going to come about someday, and I don't know how to handle it," Shelby said. "You're her father, Puck, but I know you remember what I said about wishing that Beth could have a dad. She's getting older and smarter; she's starting to ask questions that I don't know how to answer."
"Hey," Puck said gently. "It'll all work out. I know it will."
The two smiled.
"Alright, Beth," Puck said, analyzing the map. "Which way to the Princess's castle?"
"Through the woods!" Beth said confidently, pointing her way across the map.
"And make sure you don't run into Swiper, right?" Puck warned.
"Right!" she laughed.
Song: "Dance with My Father" by Luther Vandross
{As Marley sings, Puck and Beth spend quality time together.}
Marley: Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then
Spin me around 'til I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved
{Marley sings as she walks home with Sugar and Quinn in the dark, remembering her nighttime walks with her dad.}
If I could get another chance, another walk, another dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
How I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again
{Quinn remembers her childhood with her dad.}
Quinn: When I and my mother would disagree
To get my way, I would run from her to him
He'd make me laugh just to comfort me
Then finally make me do just what my mama said
Later that night when I was asleep
He left a dollar under my sheet
Never dreamed that he would be gone from me
{Jake walks up to Puck's house.}
Jake: If I could steal one final glance, one final step, one final dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
'Cause I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again
{Jake walks in.}
Jake and Puck: Sometimes I'd listen outside her door
Puck: And I'd hear how my mother cried for him
Jake and Puck: I pray for her even more than me
I pray for her even more than me
{Marley walks into her house, seeing her mom lonely on the couch.}
Marley: I know I'm praying for much too much
But could you send back the only man she loved
I know you don't do it usually
But dear Lord she's dying
To dance with my father again
All: Every night I fall asleep and this is all I ever dream
INT. ROSE HOUSE – SUN JUN 16 – MORNING
"MARLEY! GET DOWN HERE, SWEETIE!" Millie shouted.
Marley hurriedly got out of bed and rushed downstairs. She almost tripped over the last step upon seeing who was at the door.
"Dad," she breathed.
"Clifford, what are you doing here?" Millie asked sternly. "Don't think that you can just traipse back to us after years and years expecting something for Father's Day."
"That's actually why I'm here," Clifford said. "I got a call last night from some girl named Sugar. She said I had to go to McKinley High this morning. I figured she was one of your friends, and you'd know what's up."
Marley rolled her eyes. "I didn't think she would do this."
"Do what, Marley?" Millie asked.
"Sugar thought it would be a good idea to throw a Father's Day surprise party like we did for Mother's Day, only, she knows some of us aren't in our fathers' lives anymore, and I guess she thought it was her duty to stage some reunions," Marley explained.
Millie sighed. "Marley, can we have a moment in private?" After Marley left, Millie continued, "Clifford, this girl has been through a lot since you left us. She's fragile. I don't know what's going through her head right now. But if she comes home from this surprise Father's Day party in tears, you will be sure of it that you won't be leaving this town quite so easily this time."
"Millie, I've always regretted what I did," Clifford said. "I missed out on so much; I want to be in her life now."
EXT. MCKINLEY FOOTBALL FIELD
Quinn and Russell sat thirty feet apart on the bleachers when Marley and her father pulled in.
"She one of your friends, Quinn?" Russell asked.
"I don't know her too well," Quinn said. "But she's a sweet girl. Looks like Sugar called up her father, too."
"Looks like it," Marley sighed, sitting next to Quinn. Clifford went over to introduce himself to Mr. Fabray.
"Who on earth is this Sugar girl?" Clifford asked. "I'd like to meet the person who caused all this drama."
"Excuse me, it's your fault that the drama exists," Quinn snapped.
"My, my, my, not too happy of a pair of families, are we?" barked a voice from the stadium entrance. Al Motta was wheeling a barbecue onto the track, and Sugar towed a wagon full of food in.
"That's her," Marley and Quinn said together.
"Perky little thing, isn't she?" Russell asked.
"HI MARLEY! HI QUINN!" Sugar screamed, dashing up the bleachers to meet them. The two girls accepted her hugs halfheartedly. "And these must be your daddies! Wow, they don't look nearly as pissed off as they sounded on the phone."
"Why did you do this?" Marley asked. "We didn't ask for it."
Sugar looked down guiltily. "I just thought you would feel left out if everyone else was doing something special for Father's Day and you weren't. I was just trying to help."
"We know, Sugar, but calling them into the picture out of the blue like this?" Quinn asked. "It makes everything so much more complicated."
"Yeah, please tell me you didn't call up Jake's dad or anything," Marley pleaded.
The awkward and guilty look on Sugar's face showed otherwise.
"Well, I suppose we'll know in a few seconds, Marley," Quinn said. "That's their car pulling in now."
Violent-looking Puck and Jake emerged from the back seat of a car that Don Puckerman was driving. Jake and Puck met up with Marley and Quinn.
"Let me guess, Sugar did this?" Jake asked.
"Yeah… I'm going to go help my daddy start cooking the steaks," Sugar said hurriedly, zooming down to the track.
"Well, she basically ruined our lives," Puck sighed, furrowing his brow as Don Puckerman already pulled out a beer from the trunk of his car. "That drunk bastard."
"He had the nerve to ask Puck and me for rent money the moment he showed up at our door this morning," Jake sighed. "Asked me for money when I was a freshman, too."
"No kidding?" Puck asked. "He showed up at a pool I was cleaning in senior year for money."
"Guys, let's not get mad at Sugar over this, okay?" Marley asked. "She was only trying to help."
"Some help she is," Puck sighed. "Well, looks like things might brighten up in a bit. I guess a lot of other people are in on this little shindig."
"Quinn," Russell said, joining them with Clifford.
"Russell and I were talking and it seems as if we both have our apologies to trade to you girls, but we came here for a reason, and that's because we both genuinely regret leaving you," Clifford explained.
"We'll respect it if you want us to leave here on out after today, but we want to make this a special day for you girls while we can, alright?" Russell asked.
Marley and Quinn nodded.
"We'll, uh, go have a word with that fellow over there and spread the message," Russell said, escorting Clifford to go talk to Don.
"Well, they have a point," Quinn said. "Let's have fun while we can."
ONE HOUR LATER
All fifteen fathers and their kids were gathered in the stadium now. Will and Emma were on a makeshift stage to perform. Ryder played the drums, Puck and Jake on guitar and bass, and Blaine on piano.
Song: "I Learned from You" by Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus
Emma: Ooooo, yeah
I didn't wanna listen to what you were sayin'
I thought that I knew all I need to know
I didn't realize that somewhere inside me
I knew you were right but I couldn't say so
I can take care of myself, yeah, you taught me well
[Chorus: Emma]
I learned from you that I do not crumble
I learned that strength is something you choose
All of the reasons to keep on believin'
There's no question, that's a lesson, that I learned from you
[Will]
We always don't agree on
What is the best way
To get to the place that we're going from here
But I can really trust you, and give you the distance,
To make your decisions without any fear
[Both]
I'm grateful for all of the times
You opened my eyes
[Chorus: (Both)]
[Both]
You taught me to stand on my own
[Emma] and I thank you for that
[Both]
It saved me, it made me,
And now that I'm looking back
[Emma] I can say
[Both] woooaaahhhh!
[Emma] Hmmmm... Yeah!
[Will (Emma)]
I learned from you that (I learned from you)
I do not crumble
I learned that strength is something you choose (something you choose)
All of the reasons to keep on believin', (keep on believin')
There's no question, that's a lesson that I learned from you (Woah, I learned from you)
[Emma (Will)]
I learned that strength is something you choose (something you choose)
All of the reasons to keep on believin',
[Both]
There's no question, that's a lesson that I learned from you (Emma: Yeah!)
[Both]
I learned from you
"Happy Father's Day, everybody!" Will exclaimed.
"Some performance," James remarked after Blaine returned from the piano.
"Yeah, I guess," Blaine sighed.
"What's the matter?" James asked.
"It's just, hearing those lyrics… 'I learned from you that I do not crumble'?" Blaine asked. "Dad, no offense, but you and I both know that Cooper is your prize child and I'm just the boy who entertains unprofessionally."
"Son," James said sternly. "Don't ever think that. I know we had our struggles after you came out to me, and I know I didn't do my best as a father to accept your differences, but I thought we put that behind us now. I mean, yes, I know I've treated Cooper differently especially after he rose to fame, but you're going to NYADA, aren't you? You and your brother will be famous for different reasons, and I'll be equally proud of both of you, okay?"
Blaine nodded.
"Mr. Schuester also told me about a comment you made at your folks' graduation party, about not having a solo in that musical you're in—"
"Godspell, dad," Blaine said.
"Yeah, that," James said. "I've never been one for musicals; that's all your mom, but what I do know is that performing takes a whole lot of humility. You've been blessed with the spotlight for so many years, Blaine. A lot of your cast mates, this will be their first time to shine, so give them that chance. I know you didn't play a big role in Grease, but you'll have plenty more musicals to shine in, alright, buddy? Just, don't think your life is over if you don't get a solo in one musical, okay?"
Down the table under the tent, LeRoy and Hiram were talking to Reid Abrams about New York life.
"How was the move for Rachel?" Reid asked. "See, we're just very concerned because we know Artie wants to be independent, but him being in the chair, it's going to be such a tough move."
"Well, Rachel started out in a dorm, first," Hiram explained. "So we really only had to pack about three suitcases because NYADA supplied her bed and furniture and everything. The NYADA dorms were in okay proximity to stores too."
"We didn't expect for her to drop out of her dorm so quickly," LeRoy said. "She found that loft with Kurt, so they had to get their own beds, privacy partitions, kitchen items, shelves. They did a lot of pilfering around Bushwick for their own couches and stuff, but they had to spend a lot of money, we and Burt had to do a hell lot of shipping."
"Indeed," Burt said, coming over to the table. "Not to mention Kurt insisted on vintage dinner table chairs, tough shipping."
"Well, Artie will be staying in the Brooklyn Film Academy dorms, so hopefully we won't have to do all that," Reid laughed.
"Well, I'm sure Kurt and Rachel would be cool with Artie moving into the loft with them and Blaine and Santana," Burt said.
"If you ever need help over there, just give us a call," Hiram said.
"I will, thanks," Reid said, accepting their numbers. "I'm excited for Artie, I really am. You can imagine how nervous my wife and I are, though, because it is such a busy city, so much traffic, we hear a lot about the crime over there. Artie's been sheltered for most of his life, but we want to trust that he'll be fine."
Meanwhile, Mike Chang Sr. and James Anderson were frying hot dogs on the barbecue.
"I guess I should feel comfortable with Blaine pursuing theater. My oldest son is a commercial actor, so my kids clearly have a thirst for fame," James said. "I don't know, I mean, sometimes I feel like I'd be at more peace of mind if he pursued something less competitive. Actors struggle, you know?"
"That's exactly what I thought when Mike told me he wanted to be a professional dancer," Michael said. "I thought, what do dancers do? You can be a teacher, making a small salary. Besides that, what were the odds of being a professional, like the people you see on Dancing with the Stars or backup dancers for music stars? But after seeing the magic that Mike pulled off choreographing for Grease, Sectionals, and Regionals, I knew that I should've just let him do dance from the get-go. Passion is passion and talent is talent. Your son has plenty of both."
James, putting hot dogs into buns, said. "I suppose I should feel comfortable with Blaine's choice, but he just has a habit of making impulsive decisions, you know? Like, when he told me that he wanted to go to McKinley, I thought, you want to transfer to a new school just for a guy? He almost went back to Dalton earlier this year. All these mind changes, it just makes me nervous."
"Well, Kurt seems very focused over in New York," Michael said. "I think him and Blaine living together will do them both some good."
James nodded. "Alright, what do you say we start up on these burgers?"
"Couldn't agree more," Michael said.
Just then, Burt called James over to have a talk with Rob Adams.
"Rob and I were having an interesting conversation and I figured you'd have something to add," Burt said.
"Yeah, it's my son, Wade," Rob said, pointing over to the group of kids. Wade in his male form was having a good chat with Sugar, Kurt, Marley, and Rachel.
"My wife and I sometimes just don't know what to make of it," Rob said. "Don't get me wrong, Betty and I are very accepting of Wade's differences. I mean, we thought from an early age that he was gay, but we weren't expecting Wade to be transgendered, that's just so unheard of for us. We don't know anyone personally who identifies as such. We're very proud of Wade. National MVP and all, but sometimes I feel like we lose connection with him. We don't have much to talk about, and ever since we pulled him out of Grease feelings have been pretty ill."
"I can definitely relate," James said. "For a while I thought dragging my son into the garage to fix cars would've turned him around. I was stupid. I knew I couldn't change who he was, but I just held on to that sliver of hope."
"I knew that Kurt was different at an early age too, but like James here sometimes I just hoped that he wasn't, but I think what we fathers need to understand is that our sons or daughters are not us. You know, we have kids and hope for them to be like us, but now I idolize Kurt. He's stronger mentally than I ever was at his age," Burt stated.
"I get you, Burt," Rob complimented. "My son has idolized your son for years."
A tap on the microphone turned all ears. Rachel, Sugar, and Unique sat on stools accompanied by the same musicians.
Song: "Daddy" by Beyonce
Unique (Sugar): I remember when you use to take me on a
Bike ride everyday on the bayou (Sugar: You remember that? We were inseparable)
Rachel: And I remember when you could do no wrong
You'd come home from work and I jumped in your arms when I saw you
I was so happy to see you (Sugar: I was so excited, so happy to see you)
Because you loved me I overcome
And I'm so proud of what you've become
You've given me such security
No matter what mistakes I know you're there for me
You cure my disappointments and you heal my pain
You understood my biz and you protected me
Treasure every irreplaceable memory and that's why…
[Chorus]
All: I want my unborn son to be like my daddy
I want my husband to be like my daddy
There is no one else like my daddy
Unique: And I thank you (Rachel: thank you) for loving me
Daddy, daddy, daddy (6x)
Rachel: I still remember the expression on your face
When you found out I'd been on a date and had a boyfriend (Sugar: My first boyfriend, you should have seen your face)
Unique: I still remember I caught you crying cause of my tattoo
Could have said Beyonce I told you so
Instead you said you'd get one too (Sugar: Even my mama said y'all get one just like mine)
Unique: Words can't express my boundless gratitude for you
I appreciate what you do
You've given me such security
No matter what mistakes I know you're there for me
You cure my disappointments and you heal my pain
You understand my biz and you protected me
Treasure every extraordinary memory and that's why…
[Chorus]
Unique: Even if my man broke my heart today
Rachel: No matter how much pain I'm in I will be okay
Unique: Cause I got a man in my life that can't be replaced
Rachel: For this love is unconditional it won't go away
Unique: I know I'm lucky (Sugar: lucky)
Know it ain't easy (Sugar: it ain't easy)
For men who take care of their responsibilities
Rachel: Love is overwhelming
Lord why did you pick me
Can't stop my tears from falling
I love you so much daddy
[Rachel & Unique background chorus]
(Sugar: Thank you, you've done so much for me. I love you daddy.)
Rachel: I get so emotional daddy, every time I think of you
Unique: I get so emotional daddy, every time I think of you
All: There is no one else like my daddy
No one else replace my daddy...
"Aw, that was sweet," Carole remarked.
She turned around overhearing Dwight and Harry talking to Reid about Sam and Ryder in summer school.
"How does your son do it?" Dwight asked Reid.
"Artie's always been academically driven," Reid said.
"You know, anyone can make progress," Carole said, joining the conversation. "Finn was only pulling a C- average throughout freshman year, but after he joined Glee, somehow things began to go uphill. His senior average was a B+."
"Amazing," Harry said. "My son's cumulative is only a 1.7 right now, and my wife and I, needless to say, are horrendously disappointed."
"Patience is key," Dwight said. "I wasn't too good with grades myself, but I know firsthand that it takes a good foundation of support to succeed."
"Carole, I never got to say thank you to your son, Finn, for getting Ryder that appointment with a dyslexia specialist. He really helped," Harry said.
Carole smiled. "Looks like the boys are up for their tribute."
Kurt, Blaine, Mike, Sam, and Artie went up to the microphones. Ryder was on the drums, Jake was on guitar, Puck was on bass, and Rachel pitched in on the piano.
Song: "A Song for Dad" by Keith Urban
Sam: Lately I've been noticing
I say the same things he used to say
And I even find myself acting the very same way
I tap my fingers on the table
To the rhythm in my soul
And I jingle the car keys
When I'm ready to go
When I look in the mirror
He's right there in my eyes
Starin' back at me and I realize
[Chorus]
Blaine with All: The older I get
The more I can see
How much he loved my mother and my brother and me
And he did the best that he could
And I only hope when I have my own family
That every day I see
A little more of my father in me
Mike: There were times I thought he was bein'
Just a little bit hard on me
But now I understand he was makin' me
Become the man he knew that I could be
In everything he ever did
He always did with love
And I'm proud today to say I'm his son
When somebody says I hope I get to meet your dad
I just smile and say you already have
[Chorus]
Artie: He's in my eyes
My heart, my soul
My hands, my pride
And when I feel alone
And I think I can't go on
I hear him sayin' "Son you'll be alright"
Everything's gonna be alright"
Yes it is
Kurt: The older I get
The more I can see
That he loved my mother and my brother and me
And he did the best that he could
And I only hope when I have my own family
That every day I see
Oh I hope I see
I hope every day I see
A little more of my father in me
Ryder: A little more of my father in me
I hope every day I see in me
In me
In me
I hope every day I see
A little more of my father in me
FLASHFORWARD
"And that's basically how the day got started. Relationships were rekindled and new ones were formed," Burt narrated.
Burt looked over in the distance and saw Quinn and Russell. Quinn was in tears, and Russell was consoling her in his arms. Turns out that they both have come to respect each other's side of the drama. Marley was telling her father all about the past several years and how she switched schools and finally found her real home at McKinley High. Jake and Puck were actually joking around with their dad. Though he was an epic dead-beat ass, he used his own life's mistakes to give Puck and Jake life advice. Sugar and Al looked at each other with accomplished faces.
"Alright, guys! How's about we get back to this game?" Burt called.
All of the dads rushed back onto the football field. Burt's red team had earned a penalty kick. Burt stepped up as the team's kicker. Kurt grinned at his father as the oh-so-famous music began.
Cause if you liked it then you should have put a ring on it
If you liked it then you should've put a ring on it
Don't be mad once you see that he want it
If you liked it then you should've put a ring on it
Wuh uh oh uh uh oh oh uh oh uh uh oh
Burt kicked the ball, and the kick was good! The game was tied 13-13.
"Alright, guys!" Burt said to all the fathers. "The kids gave us their tribute, but I think it's time we return the favor."
"Oh no," Sugar laughed.
Song: "Burning Love" by Elvis Presley
(All 15 fathers participate.)
Niall: Lord Almighty,
I feel my temperature rising
Higher higher
It's burning through to my soul
Dwight: Girl, girl, girl
You gonna set me on fire
My brain is flaming
I don't know which way to go
LeRoy: Your kisses lift me higher
Like the sweet song of a choir
You light my morning sky
With burning love
Harry: Ooh, ooh, ooh,
I feel my temperature rising
Help me, I'm flaming
I must be a hundred and nine
Reid: Burning, burning, burning
And nothing can cool me
I just might turn into smoke
But I feel fine
Clifford: Cause your kisses lift me higher
Like a sweet song of a choir
And you light my morning sky
With burning love
Russell: It's coming closer
The flames are reaching my body
Please won't you help me
I feel like I'm slipping away
It's hard to breath
And my chest is a-heaving
Hiram: Lord have mercy,
I'm burning a hole where I lay
LeRoy: Cause your kisses lift me higher
Like the sweet song of a choir
You light my morning sky
With burning love
With burning love
Ah, ah, burning love
All with LeRoy: I'm just a hunk, a hunk of burning love
Just a hunk, a hunk of burning love
[Repeat until fade]
"Best father's day ever!" Kurt exclaimed as all of the kids engulfed their fathers with hugs and kisses.
"Let's give it up to Sugar for planning all this!" Burt exclaimed. Everyone lifted Sugar into the air in celebration.
