October 28, 2014 - 8:03 a.m. Townsville High Gymnasium (1st Period)
"So just let me get this straight, she came over to your house just to hang out and then gave you a kiss?" Buttercup asked Boomer in complete shock.
"Well yeah, I mean the kiss was on the cheek but the rest of it yes!" Boomer said as he explained the situation to her and Butch.
"What is going on with her? First she invites Blossom to be a cheerleader and now she's just swinging by the house of the guy she supposedly despises?" Butch asked, still trying to wrap his head around all of this new information.
"I don't know, maybe she's just actually being nice? It could happen you know. Neither of you can tell Brick that she stopped by though! They last person I want to know about this is him." Boomer told the two.
"What's up with him anyway? He's been such a dick lately. As in more than usual. Especially to Blossom! I am very close to swinging at him!" Buttercup said as her anger started to build up.
"Settle Butters. He might just being going through some stuff." Butch said as he put a hand on her shoulder and tried to calm her down.
"What's up with you two then? Are you going to tell people or just hide in secrecy?" Boomer asked with a slight smirk.
"Well to be fair that's none of your business Boomer. Quiet now Blossom's coming over." Buttercup said in an agitated voice.
"I'm so nervous for after school, what if I just make a fool of myself?" Blossom asked the group starting to panic.
"That's the spirit." Butch said with a smile.
"Not what she needs Butch. I'm sure you'll do fine, Bubbles gave you that invite for a reason. She wouldn't just do it for her own personal kicks, despite what these two may say." Boomer said to her with sincerity in his voice.
Coach Stevenson then entered the gymnasium, "Alright let's stop sitting around shall we?" he yelled as he ushered the students to get up from the bleachers.
The groups dispersed to do their own activities except for Bubbles and Brick. "Why did you do that?" Brick asked Bubbles in an angry voice.
"Do what? I haven't talked to you lately Brick so I really don't know what you're talking about." Bubbles said to him.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about. Why the hell did you give Blossom an invitation? She's not cheerleading material." Brick said to her in a stern voice.
"Says who? You? I really don't think that you have any reason to deal with cheerleading business Brick. She's perfectly qualified, taking gymnastics from 3rd grade to freshman year as well as sporadic dance classes; If anything she may be over qualified." Bubbles said as she added a smirk to the end of her sentence.
"You know exactly what I mean when I say that she's not cheerleading material. She's not... well you know." Brick tried to reason with her.
"No Brick I don't. Are you making the implication that she isn't wealthy enough or popular enough to be a cheerleader? If so, that's rather shallow of you if I do say so myself." Bubbles said, the smile not leaving her face.
"Whatever Bubbles. If you can get the other cheerleaders to actually agree to let her on the squad, I'll give you props for that, but until that happens I have every right to say what I'm saying." Brick said in retort to her.
"You don't actually. You're always insulting her now that I think about it. How about you stop being incredibly rude for once and be an actual person who cares if they hurt someone else's feelings or not?" Bubbles challenged him before she was called over by Katie Clayton.
Brick stood there with a stunned expression on his face and nothing but anger coursing through his veins. How dare she say that to me? She's wrong anyway, I do care about people I'm just really looking out for Blossom's own well-being. I can't help it that there's this strong feeling of it all being a set up and her being humiliated in front of most of the elite girls. I just don't want her to get hurt.
4:30 p.m. Townsville High Gymnasium (Cheerleading tryouts)
The tryouts had just began to start and Blossom could not be any more nervous than she was at this very moment. She had at least thought that the tryouts would be closed, but they weren't. There was actually quite a large number of people that were sitting on the bleachers waiting for the tryouts to start up.
Bubbles along with AnnaLeigh, Katie, Bethany and Paige were at the front putting each girl into some type of formation; Blossom was in the back which she was very thankful for. She tried her best not to look at who was in the stands, she felt as though if she saw Brick she may get too nervous and just end up throwing up all over the place. However, she felt the eyes of someone staring at her, so she just look up for a quick moment; It was him. For the first time in weeks he wasn't looking at her with disinterest or annoyance, he actually looked rather concerned or empathetic or something like that. Is he nervous for me? Is he hoping that I'll make the squad? Is this all a big elaborate set up to humiliate me? Oh gosh now I can't even focus.
Suddenly music started to play, Bubbles yelled over the volume the steps of the routine while she and Bethany walked through them for the group to see. There were about twenty girls at the tryouts. The moves seemed simple enough to Blossom; when it was time for everyone to start following along with them, Blossom mastered the moves effortlessly and was now in sync with the music.
Bubbles and Bethany had stopped leading and started to evaluate each girl as they continued to follow the steps by moving around, while AnnaLeigh, Katie and Paige evaluated from the front.
Once Bubbles had reached Blossom she stopped, stared for quite a bit longer than she had for the rest of the girls and moved along. When Bethany came by Blossom she did the exact same thing. Why did they do that? Am I making a lot of mistakes? Oh no I've completely lost all of my chances.
The music then stopped. "Okay everyone! As you know it is not required that you have any tumbling abilities and it will not affect our decision in anyway, but if you have any tumbling experience that you would like to add in addition to this would you please raise your hand." Bubbles then shouted over the group.
Blossom hesitantly raised her. Besides her, there were only a few other girls who also raised their hands. Katie then began to speak, "Okay you five, come over here with Bubbles and I so we can see your level." she directed them over to the left of the dancers.
Bubbles gave each girl a set of tumbling directions that they were to perform when it was their turn. "Back-tuck, back hand spring, round-off, front cross over in a split finish." Bubbles said to Blossom with a small smile, not a mean smile but a genuine one. Blossom simply nodded to her.
Each girl was doing rather well, so Blossom had to be absolutely flawless so that she would stand out. She looked back up at the bleachers again, Brick was looking around nervously and twiddling his thumbs. "Blossom it's your turn." Bubbles suddenly said to her. Here we go. Just do it Blossom.
Blossom did it all, effortlessly. She even received a cheer from the onlookers on the bleachers. Brick was even smiling at her.
Tryouts came to a close they were calling each girl over to them individually. There were only three spots available, so most of the girls were rather sad when they returned. Blossom had yet to be called. So far two of the positions had already been filled by Sophie Anders, a small, bubbly freshman and by Quinn Felton who moved here a few weeks ago.
She was then called to the small group. AnnaLeigh and Paige gave disapproving sneers at her, but the others friendly welcomed Blossom. AnnaLeigh then spoke, "I'm just going to tell you right away that I do not agree with this decision." she said in a blunt tone.
"Relax AnnaLeigh, you were out voted remember? Besides, Bubbles is going to take her shopping after anyways." Katie said in defense.
"I'm sorry what? Shopping?" Blossom asked the group.
"Oh sorry, you're in. You just severely need an update, which Bubbles has kindly offered to give you, free of charge." Bethany explained to her.
"An update?" Blossom said feeling quite offended.
"Just new clothes, your hair and everything else is perfect actually. You just need a slightly newer wardrobe is all." Bubbles said with a smile. She looks rather excited, I'm honestly unsure if I should be excited or offended.
Blossom took a pause, trying to take in all of the new material of the situation. "So just to clarify, I'm on the squad and I'm getting free clothes?" Blossom asked the group.
"Yes... I thought you were smart enough to understand that." AnnaLeigh said in a harsh tone.
"Ignore her. Yes that's exactly what we're saying. After we're finished letting the remaining girls down and making the announcement of who's on the squad, you and Bubbles can head off to the mall." Katie explained to her.
Oh Alright, so I just get popularity and a bunch of free clothes. Actually I'm not even going to question it; Bubbles is my friend and she seems happy and who I am to question her attempts at making me popular.
The final announcement was made to the gymnasium, most of the people looked rather shocked when Blossom's name was called, but some looked rather impressed.
"Ready to go? I don't want us to feel rushed at the mall." Bubbles approached Blossom with a large smile on her face.
Suddenly Brick came up to the pair, "Hey Bubbles, Blossom, could I talk to you for a second alone Bubbles?" he asked her, which she then agreed and they walked out of ear shot from Blossom.
"Why'd you put her on the squad? If it's just to humiliate her then you're a worse person than I thought. She deserves to be on that squad solely because she's talented." Brick ranted to the small blonde.
"Well I hate to interrupt this cute moment that you're having with your feelings, but you can ask any of the other four judges and they will tell you that Blossom was chosen because of her skill. However, it was incredibly nice of you to be concerned about Blossom's wellbeing for once. We have to go though so carry on with your on life, yeah?" Bubbles said to him as she sauntered back over to Blossom and headed toward the parking lot.
8:41 p.m. Townsville Mall
"Please tell me that we're done? I don't think I can carry much more and I'm also incredibly exhausted." Blossom asked Bubbles as they carried a ridiculous amount of bags through the mall heading to the exit.
"At the mall yes, then we have one more stop make and we're done for today!" Bubbles said rather energetically.
"Where are we going after this?" Blossom asked, rather suspicious of Bubbles' vague answer.
"You'll see! It's not far just about 5 minutes away!" Bubbles said happily as they hopped in her car.
Like Bubbles said, they drove for about 5 minutes before they reached some storage units. "Get out, I have a surprise." Bubbles said with a smile.
She opened up the storage unit to reveal a matte red Audi TTS. It was absolutely gorgeous, but Blossom was still unsure as to why Bubbles brought her here for. "Why are you showing me this?" Blossom asked her.
"Well this is one of our spare cars, and this is only red one we have so I thought you'd like this one the best! It's now yours to use." Bubbles explained as she dangled the keys from her hand.
"What?! I can't accept this. This isn't clothes this is a damn car that's like $50,000! I'm sorry Bubbles but no." Blossom firmly said to her.
"Oh relax. My dad doesn't even use this one and neither do I, it was a gift from his business partner anyways so it's not like we spent our own money on it. You need a car and here's a car, come on I know you love it." Bubbles persisted.
Blossom hesitated and weighed the pros and cons of the situation, deciding that Bubbles obviously trusted her enough with the car and Blossom did really need a car since it was going to start getting cold soon was a good enough reason to just take the car.
For the first time in her entire life Blossom was driving a car that wasn't a mini-van.
10:22 p.m. - 126 Pacific Pl. (Boomer's House)
Boomer was just about to go to bed, he had been on the phone with Brick for about an hour talking about Blossom's new position on the squad. It was strange at first but it was nice to have Brick's attitude seeming to return to normal. Then he received a text from one Bubbles Sinclair: Hey... this may sound strange but I'm passing through, do you mind if I stop by?
She just happens to be cruising around my street at 10:30 p.m. on a Wednesday, highly unlikely but I would enjoy her company... So Boomer replied: Yeah just text me when you're here. No more than a few minutes after he saw her pull into his driveway, he then let her into his house and they went up to his bedroom.
"Sorry that it's so late, but I was just wondering if we could have a talk?" Bubbles asked Boomer timidly.
"What do you want to talk about?" Boomer asked genuinely interested.
"Well you see... I kind of... sort of... like you, and I'm pretty sure that you like me... so if that happens to be the case... I was wondering if you would just want to hang out with me tomorrow night or Friday or something? Like go get a pizza or something?" Bubbles asked Boomer. Her face was very flushed and she was making an incredible attempt to avoid his eyes.
At that moment, Boomer knew that this wasn't a set up or a game or any kind of ploy. This was Bubbles being Bubbles and taking down her wall for a slight moment to see if feelings would be returned to her. It was actually quite an adorable and amazing to witness.
Without even thinking really, Boomer didn't say anything to her, nothing at all actually. He just took a few steps toward her and got so close to her that he we practically towering. Considering she was at least 6 inches shorter than him he had to crane his neck a bit to have their eyes be level. Then he proceeded to something that was very un-Boomer like. He kissed her. Not even just a peck, but just a kiss that held so much anticipation that it was absolutely incredible.
As the finally parted Bubbles began to speak, "Now don't be upset please, I really hope that you'll be understanding about this..." Oh god, now she's probably going to say how much of a mistake all of this was. "But I think that we should just keep what's going between us a secret, at least for a while. It's not that I don't want people to know because I really do! I just don't want people to think that you cheated on AnnaLeigh with me and stuff like that. You understand right?" Bubbles explained to Boomer.
Boomer breathed a sigh of relief. Mostly because he hadn't really thought about the reaction people might have and agreed that him and Bubbles should keep whatever they have under wraps for the time being. "I'm such an idiot. I didn't even think of that! But I think that's a great suggestion, so... would you like to come over tomorrow for pizza here? Or at your place? And then I'm hoping I might see you at Paige's Halloween party on Friday?" Boomer replied to her with a meek smile.
"My place then. And you definitely will see me Friday, that is if you can find me." Bubbles said with a sultry smile before placing a light kiss on his lips. "I have to go though, I'll see you around Beckman."
"Same to you Sinclair." Boomer said as she exited his room, leaving Boomer feeling on top of the world.
I'm sorry that this took so long to deliver but I was just at a major loss for a bit! I hope that this being a rather long chapter makes up for it! Hope you all like it! :)
