Hey guys! So in this chapter, we're gonna have a little bit of a plot twist... Hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: I only own Ella.
I sat at the conference table for several hours. The blonde man sat across from me. His clear blue eyes watched the soldiers bustle about the room as they worked. I gathered that everyone had orders from Fury not to speak with me. It could've also been the handcuffs. Or the armed guards. I tried to sleep, but the continuous chatter of agents on the bridge made it impossible. Fury's loud voice shattered my attempts.
"Captain, Ella. You're up."
My head shot up. It spun from the rapid motion. Up for what? I groaned.
One of the guards unlocked my handcuffs. The Captain gazed at me warily as I stood, massaging my wrists. "You're my backup?" He asked, not unkindly. He seemed to be more tired than anything. I shrugged in response. I had no idea what was happening. "Alright Ma'am, let's go then," he sighed. I followed closely behind him as he moved to exit the room.
"Capitan?"Fury called out, stopping the man short.
He turned back to face the director. "Yes, Sir?"
"Whatever you do, don't let her out of your sight. She has the tendency to... wander off." He smirked at he spoke the last part.
The younger man looked at me skeptically. "But she's just a girl, Director-"
Fury interrupted his words by chuckling humorously. "-She's probably the most dangerous person on this ship."
The blond man turned to look at me. His expression darkened exceptionally as he took in the man's words. There was a long, pronounced pause, filled to the brim with tension. Finally, the Capitan let out a lound exhale and exited the room.
I pinned Fury with a heated glare. "You didn't have to say that."
He shrugged. "The man should know what he's dealing with."
"I'm not as dangerous as you make me out to be!" I called after the man as he turned away.
"I wouldn't be surprised if you had the power to kill every person on this Helicarrier, Ella," he called back. "I only know one other that has that sort of power, but he has to get very angry for that to happen."
I frowned. Not knowing what the man meant, I turned to race after the Capitan. I could feel Fury's gaze on me until I disappeared into the hall. When I looked up, I saw that the blond man had waited for me. His hands were in the pockets of his trousers as he leaned against the wall. As soon as he saw me, the man straightened and cleared his throat.
"Sorry about that," I hummed, smiling softly up at him. He towered high above me, making me tip my head back. He was certainly a handsome man.
He smiled kindly back. "It's not a problem. Ready?"
I nodded.
I followed him through a network of complicated tunnels. We finally reached what seemed to be an armory. Guns of every shape and size hung from the wall. There were hundreds of knives and various grenades. My eyes trailed down. I noticed several bows and quivers. One seemed to be missing. The sight of the specific weapon reminded me of Agent Barton. My stomach clenched as images of the handsome archer bombarded my mind. Shaking my head to dispel the thoughts, I saw that the Captain had moved forward to the end of the room. He stood in front of a glass case. Inside it was a suit.
I frowned. "You're Captain America?"
The man nodded slowly. "Yes Ma'am." He breathed out as if he was deep in thought. The man turned. "But please, just call me Steve Rogers. I haven't put on the suit in a long time."
I smiled walking forward. I reached a hand out. "Ella. It's lovely to finally meet you." They shook. His grasp swallowed her petite hand.
"You've heard of me, Ma'am?"
"Just Ella, please," I said. "Yes. You caused quite a bit of... debate where I'm from."
Steve chuckled easily before he released my hand. He reached into the case to retrieve his suit. "And where would that be? I apologize, but you don't look old enough to know about me, Ma- Ella."
I laughed along with him. "I'm a lot older than I look, Mr. Rogers."
He smiled down at me, suit in hand, before he went behind the changing screen in the corner. "I know how that is. How old are you? Twenty-one?"
I snorted. I went to the wall and took several knifes. I slipped them into my combat boots. "Not quite."
"Thirty?" He ventured, humor lifting his tone.
I took a handgun from the wall and slipped it into the waistband of my leggings. "A little older..."
"Thirty-five?"
"Isn't it rude to ask a lady her age?"
He was quiet for a long moment. "Have I offended you, Ma'am?"
I laughed. "No, Mr. Rogers. I'll see you in a couple of minutes," I called back to him as I walked out of the room, grabbing a couple of extra knives on the way.
Steve popped his head from around the screen, only wearing the pants of his suit. The room was empty. Remembering what Fury had told him, the man hastily pulled on the second half of his outfit before he raced out into the hallway, going on a hunt for the mysterious woman.
I was sitting silently inside the aircraft designated for Germany. I turned my head at the sound of footsteps. Steve climbed aboard the craft, a disgruntled look upon his face. As soon as he saw me, he lunged forward to grab my wrist. "You weren't supposed to leave my-"
I crouched to the ground, twisting my body, using the force of his movement to throw him forcefully against the ground. The Capitan tried to wrench his arm free. He looked at me in complete shock. I attempted to calm my breathing. The pulse of the power increased, yearning to be released. It was aching to come out.
I expelled a breath. "Please do not grab me like that ever again."
I let him go as soon as he stopped fighting against my hold. He stood to face me. I sat back in my designated seat and closed my eyes.
"How do you move so fast?" Steve asked, completely forgetting about what just happened. I heard him sit beside me and buckle up.
"Do not ask a question if you're afraid to hear the answer," I murmured quietly.
"I'm not afraid."
My head rolled to the side. I arched a brow at him. "The fact that you had to tell me that says a lot more than before."
He didn't say anything after that. My eyes were closed as I heard another person arrive on the jet. I could feel the Capitan's pointed stare burning through my profile. The light mass, distinctive sole pattern and definitive European perfume of the individual led me to the conclusion that Agent Romanoff would be accompanying us. The jet started up several moments later and suddenly we were in the air. Twenty minutes into the flight, the Capitan unbuckled himself and stalked to the front of the aircraft. I could hear hushed voices.
"Does she always act like that?"
"Ah. You too?"
"Hmm?"
"Did she try to knock you out?"
"No."
"Did she manage to knock you on your ass?"
"Uh... well, um-"
"Don't take it too hard; she does that to everyone at least once. You should've seen Fury after their first run in. She's the one who broke his nose." There was a slight smile in her voice.
"You're kidding."
"Wish I was, Capitan Rogers."
I was able to ignore the rest of their conversation until we were above Stuttgart.
Agent Romanoff's voice was shouting orders.
"-Let's take them down."
My eyes shot open and I immediately unlatched my harness. I watched as Capitan America fidgeted with the straps of his shield. The back of the jet lowered ominously.
The Capitan looked uncomfortable at the height of the jet in accordance to the ground. "Excuse me!" He yelled to Agent Romanoff, who appeared to be the pilot, "Can you take us down any more? I don't want the Lady getting injured."
I shook my head at his gentlemanly antics and took a running start. I shot past him, causing him to cry out in surprise. I launched myself off the jet, without a parachute. I streamlined my body, breaking through the harsh winter air. The rapid wind pricked my exposed neck and face. The drop took only moments. The black of night tenderly caressed my body. As if I was flying again. The bright stars hid behind large clouds. All of a sudden, the ground was arriving fast. I tucked my arms around my body and rolled onto the pavement. The asphalt bit into my shoulders and back as they took most of the impact.
I looked up. I saw a group of people kneeling before a man in god-like armour. He was familiar to me. Loki, God of Mischief.
An elderly man stood. "-Not to men like you."
"There are no men like me," the god scoffed.
"There are always men like you." A shiver ran down my spine at his words.
"Look to your elder, people! Let him be the example."
The towering man sent forth a bolt of energy from the sceptre at his side.
I lunged forward. "Loki!" My voice ripped through the tension just before Capitan America stepped forward, blocking the energy with his shield. It bounced back, directing towards the original source.
The god avoided it easily. His head snapped up at the sound of my voice. Cold features melted. Shock appeared. His eyebrows raised as eyes widened. Suddenly, the god fell to the ground in an extravagant bow. His robes pooled around him. My jaw clenched. I watched as the crowd looked to me with confusion written clearly on their faces. I looked back at Steve. His mouth had dropped open.
I swallowed. My heartbeat was so loud, I was afraid the crowd would hear. "Rise Loki, son of Odin."
He obeyed my words immediately. The god rose and approached me swiftly. The crowd scattered to make a path. "It is a joy to look upon your sweet face once more, my Lady." Loki took my hand and pressed a lengthy kiss on the back. I nodded my head cordially. It felt odd to be treated this way. It had been so many years. "Have you been on Midgard this entire time?"
I exhaled shakily before nodding. "I ran into the Bifröst. My craft crash-landed here."
His hand came to cup the side of my face. "The Realms have searched for you for so long..." He visibly shook himself and pulled away. "But there is something I must do."
A strange uneasy sensation knotted in my belly. I groaned internally as Loki turned to strike the Capitan. The crowd scattered quickly. Screams and yells filled the square. I watched as the men fought each other with intensity.
The jet approached, Romanoff's voice ordered Loki to stand down. Moments later, strange music overrode the Agent's voice. A flash of red and gold entered my peripheral vision. I rolled to the side just seconds before a man rocketed past me and barrelled into Loki. The god fell against some stairs and stared up at the man in the iron suit and Steve. The robot aimed its fist at Loki. It glowed a dangerous blue. I ran forward and launched myself in front of Loki. I spread my arms wide, trying to shield him from the attack.
"Who the hell is this?" The robot asked, it's voice mechanized. My head cocked to the side.
Capitan America stepped back. "She's my backup. Stand down, Stark."
Both men put their weapons away.
I looked behind me to see Loki laughing manically. "You know not who this is? Oh where I'm from, she is but a legend. All the gods bow to her-"
I cut him off quickly with a wave of my hand. No one could know.
Loki looked to me in outrage. "These children should be bowing for you! Kissing the ground you choose to grace!"
"Stop. They don't know." My voice was cold and detached, making the man of iron turn to face me.
The helmet of his suit degenerated back into his suit. The man before me was quite attractive. Chocolate brown locks covered his scalp. Precise facial hair adorned his features. His dark eyes studied me suspiciously. "Who the hell are you? Is S.H.I.E.L.D. recruiting out of high school now?"
I snorted. "I'm here as a favor to Fury, nothing more."
"-Did you play with Cabbage Patch or Barbies? Sorry, I'm usually great at figuring this out, but I'm kind of hung-over."
His words were strange to my ears. "I don't know what you're trying to say..."
"You know. Dolls. Or were you one of those child prodigies?"
"Uh..."
"You should kneel before her! Kneel!" Loki shouted. Steve grabbed the god under his arms and hoisted him from the ground. He proceeded towards the jet.
"-so what are you good at? Piano? Math? Torture?"
I ignored the strange man in the red and gold metal suit. My bright silver eyes followed Loki as Capitan America walked him over to the jet. The god of mischief struggled in his grip. His shouts made my heart clench.
If only these humans really knew.
Have any guesses to what's going on?
