Sorry for the long delay, I had writers block. This chapter is a little short, but I thought I'd get something up before Christmas. (jokes)
Chapter 11: Jealous
Caroline walked through the door to the bar she used to visit regularly, it almost feeling foreign to her. Looking across the sea of people she spotted the bar where the person she used to see every day for years kissing a small petite brunette. Anger, jealousy, and bitterness flooded her body. She may have broken it off with him all those years ago but what was she supposed to do? She was the wrong side of 30 and still getting older with no offers at the door. Nick may be a backup plan but right now that's all the plan she has, she can call and he'll come running. Well that's what she thought before she saw the young brunette sat in front of him with a weird love in her eyes. However she believed if she could get her out of the way she can put her plan back into action.
She walked up to the bar, waiting patiently until Nick turned around to deal with another customer. She sat next to Jess quietly playing with the bar mat in front of her. "Why did he decided today's the day that he doesn't want a commitment, Typical men." Caroline said in a loud muttered tone. She wanted Jess to hear her but not make it obvious what she was playing at. Jess looked up from her phone and turned to see who was now accompanying the seat beside her. "Are you ok?"
Caroline smiled inside, "Yeah… no, it's just my stupid good for nothing boyfriend decided on our anniversary that he didn't want a proper commitment."
"Oh that's horrible, how long were you together?"
"It was our one year anniversary today." Caroline let out a fake sob in mourning of her imaginary boyfriend.
"That's terrible, I know how it feels. I used to go out with this guy for six years and we were living together and everything. Then one day I came home and he was cheating on me in my own bed. I genuinely thought I was going to marry him. But then finally after some years I finally found someone that I love a million times more and could really see a future with. So I'm sure you can no problem."
"I'm working on it" Caroline mumbled under her breath,
"Excuse me?" Jess asked confused. "I said it's not that easy, I used to have a boyfriend I was dating for years and he never let me know how he felt and was even more of a commitment phobe than my last boyfriend he just strung me along. Never wanting to settle down, start a family, wasted four of my best years on him. Actually maybe you know him he's the bartender that works here Nick Miller."
Jess nearly chocked on her drink, "What?"
"Oh so you do know him?" Caroline asked even though she knew the answer. "Yeah I know him, what's this about not being committed because I heard he has a new girlfriend that he really loves and I'm sure he wants to spend his life with me… I mean her."
"Oh I'm sure he does now, I guess they've only been dating what a month or so?"
"Two and a half actually." Jess corrected. "Well let me tell you honey he's commitment phobe 101. Quiet about how he feels, doesn't want to show that your relationship is going anywhere, oh don't get me started about kids, he may seem like he likes them but for him no chance, wouldn't want to be a father even if you paid him." Caroline spotted Nick about to turn back around to them, she had to make a quick dash before he caught her talking to his current girlfriend.
"Look I gotta go, but give your friend a piece of advice Nick Miller ain't no good. But nice meeting you. Bye." With that Caroline walked off with a big smile on her face, phase one complete, now just have to wait for the perfect opportunity for phase two.
Jess sat frozen for what seemed like an hour. What was that women talking about? Why wouldn't Nick want to settle down, start a family, he's never said no before but he's never said yes either? Had they ever really had the conversation? More questions kept flowing through her head, doubt, worry, insecurity. Everything she had been sure of was flying out the window she just had to get away and think.
"Jess, Jess… JESS!"
"Huh?"
"You've been spaced for about five minutes."
"Oh sorry, look I gotta go, early morning tomorrow."
"Ok do you want me to drive you home, I can take a break?"
"No it's fine I've got my car. I'll see you tomorrow ok."
"Love you."
Nick was about to kiss her goodbye but Jess was already running out the door. Confusion flooded Nick's body, things had been going great between them, he was finally happy in this hell hole that was his life. He was in a great place, great job, great family and even greater girlfriend, and now that was maybe ruined.
Thought it needed a bit of a twist everything seemed too happy with daisies and was getting a bit complacent anyway please, please review they make my day (wow I sound sad and lonely there)
