"There's a whole community of them" Rose sobbed into Anko's lap. "I am descended from those, those things"
"Slow down, sweet" Anko said. After Rose had a horrible day in her other, she ran to Anko in hysterics. "Who are they"
"Wizards. A whole community filled with people unnatural as me!" Rose sobbed out, clutching at Anko's clothes, terrified out of her mind at the idea. "I am enough of a risk myself, how can I survive a whole community of people volatile as me?"
"Shh, calm down, Rosie" Anko hushed. This scene was getting far to familiar for her tastes. "What do you actually know about these people?"
"They wave wands, and do spells, and-and they are the people who murdered mother!" Rose cried, looking for anything that she san pin on them.
"Rose, darling" Anko said, frustrated at the girl. "Shinobi killed both of your parents here. How is it any different?"
"It isn't" Rose admitted, still crying. "I have Naruto to guard me here, though. The gaurds wont let anything actually murder me, and you know exactly how much I am continually sacrificing to keep Sakumo from getting murdered by his father- a man who wiped out all of his family on one leader's order. I thought, I had hoped that that place was different, that I was sometimes safe. Look were that ruse went! It died, right along with Petunia! I didn't like her, but she litteraly bleed out, pronounced dead when she still had a chance at life. I could have called the emergency servaces, gotten help- Vernon himself could have tracked down one of those, those Sun attributes, whatever those are, or at least tried! He knew that she could be saved. He knew that there was a way to keep my aunt alive and he just ignored it. It was his own wife! It was someone that he loved, and he didn't even try to save her!" Rose sobbed. "Why would anyone abandon someone like that?"
"Wait, hold on a sec, did you just say Sun attribute?" Anko asked, distracted from the worry about Rose getting sucked into a seceret society by the familiar phrase.
"Yes. Do you know what that means?" Rose asked.
"I think that we share an other, sweetie. That's a personality type in the secret society where I live there. People who have it are often nurturers. Still, talking about it can get you killed, so I'm not going to say more about it unless I have to. You were talking about him abandoning her?" Anko redirected. It worked.
"Yeah. Vernon said that the fight started because he botched a deal, whatever that means. Now people are angry at him and are sending people to try to kill him and his wife and his kids. He says that both me and Dudley will go of to Hogwarts, a school for people to try to learn about the ability, because his enemies wont be able to track us down there. He knows that we both are eligible to go because we sometimes make strange things happen around us. I don't want to talk about that, but it starts to scare me. How can I defend myself from something that I don't understand?"
"How did you survive life here?" Anko asked, trying to jog some ideas in Rose.
"Because no one has managed to kill me yet" Rose promptly answered. "Not the rumers, not the childbirth, not an accident, and not the sabatoge. I was still alive afterwards, and I keep doing my best to maintain my life as such"
"Good answer, honey" Anko replied. That was scarily accurate from a not quite eleven-year-old. You are still alive because nothing has killed you yet. A bit morbid, but the general principle was useful. "And if nothing kills you there, you can learn to survive it to. What advantages do you have going in to this place?"
"Vernon says that I have an inheritance there" Rose listed, "I know that I already survived one murder attempt there, mom blocked the fatal blow or something equally dramatic. Dudley will be going, and I already know him, even if we aren't on very good terms, even if we are better now than we were when Aunty was still alive. He is grateful for the fact that a saved his life from someone trying to kill him or something, because he has been strangely nice after the incident"
"Hold up for a second, did you really save his life?" Anko asked.
"If killing an attacker right before you can land a fatal would counts, then yeah"
"You should take advantage of that, sweetheart. If you just saved his life and he is grateful for it, you know have a great opportunity to make friends. I am not sure if he understands the concept of allies, but if you two become friends, he might help you make sure that you are still alive. What do you know about him anyways?"
It took a little while for Rose to remember anything about her cousin. "Umm, I think that Aunt and Uncle died in there other at some point in the last five years, because I remember hearing him wake up from nightmares of it happening when we both were littler. I think that he was adopted at some tech-savvy place, because he never asked for assistance in science. There's nothing else about him that I really remember otherwise," Rose admitted, "He was just one of the people to make nice with in that house"
Anko did not approve, especially if Rose really was a sky-attribute. That uncaring attitude could indicate the start of a lack of sky-related traits. Anko really didn't want her sky to end up being inverted, even though she still would stay with her if she ended up being one. No element would abandon their sky, not if the title went deeper than political lables. She would endure anything that her sky did, but she still wanted it to be nice. "You really should learn about the people that you are near, Rose. It could be useful"
"Alright, I know that now" Rose agreed. Still, she wasn't entirely sure that she was being genuine. Why? How did she sort between useful people to know and usless information?
"People aren't useless" Anko scolded. "The might not be currently useful, but they aren't useless"
"So, I'm going to Hogwarts" Rose gathered herself.
"Yes, you do seem to" Anko agreed.
Back in Privet drive, or more accurately, a hotel that Uncle was having Dudley and Rose stay at, Rose started using Anko's advise. "Hey Dudley?" Rose asked, her voice wayering in the night. Vernon had written a letter of acceptance when the owl arrived, and the two of them were both going to Hogwarts. He wouldn't let them read the letter, however, so the two of them had to guess until Rose got hers.
"Yes, Rose" Dudley responded. He was frightened by the changes that were happening. It was so scary, because he was alone in a new, dangerous world. Was he going to die? Rose seemed to know what he was thinking, because her smile gentled.
"I was thinking" Rose started. Why had she ben afraid of this? Dudley was much more frightened of her than she was of him. As a matter of fact, it had ben years sense he had bullied anyone. Why would she be afraid now? "We are going to be in the place together"
"Really?" Dudley asked. He had thought that he was going to be alone in this.
"Yes, really. I was doing the weird things before you were, and that means that I am going to be going to, once my letter arrives on my birthday. I thought that it would be nice to be friends when we go. I don't want to be alone when we get there, so friends?"
Dudley could hardly belive it. His cousin, she was so brave. She had never bent for anything, always being strong enough to fallow her own rules. If she had been scared to, then mabey Dudley wasn't being a crybaby. Mabey if they were friends, then he would stop being scared to. Wait, they were cousins! "I though that being cousins made us friends already" Dudley said.
"No, it doesn't. Living in the same house as someone means that you know how to avoid getting into huge arguments at home, and it took years for us to do that. I am suggesting that we defend each other, so that if anything tries to kill me, you will warn me so that I can defend myself, and if anything tries to kill you, or even just is mean to you, I can protect you to"
"You would do that?" Dudley asked, amazed. "You would be willing to do so much? I know that I wasn't exactly nice to you when we were in kindergarten"
"Ha" Rose said, remembering those days. "I had survived worse by then, and am willing to forgive you- so long as you don't start that behavior again"
"I promise" Dudley said solemnly, "I would like to be friends"
"Alright" Rose said. Success! "Now we are friends. You will warn me about dangers nearby, and I will protect you from outside threats"
