We Remain

Chapter 11

Lexa POV

Sitting on a log not to far from the healers hut I watched more and more warriors from other clans arriving. The word of the tournament had obviously reached the other villages.

From the corner of my eye I noticed the Healer and Octavia exiting the Hut with a deep frown set on their faces. I couldn't hear what they were saying but they were obviously distressed by the way they were shuffling through the contents of three large baskets outside the side of the hut.

Catching Indra's attention I gave her the signal I was going to talk with the healer and would not need any guards. Indra simply nodded her head, but I could tell she disapproved.

Striding toward the hut I ignored the guards confused expressions, it wasn't often I went anywhere without my guards.

"Octavia" I nodded at the Sky girl, who's head snapped up giving me an indescribable expression, before then nodding and making hey way back into the hut.

Turning to the healer I was unable to see her face with her long graying hair covering her it.

"fisa" (healer) I slightly raised my voice trying to get her attention.

As soon as she noticed me she stood up straight and bowed her head. "Heda" she replied.

"How is Clarke" I asked as emotionless as possible, I knew something was wrong and the look on her face confirmed it.

"The blood loss has made her body weak, she will need 'Uno de gato' to help with the healing and fight off any infection. Unfortunately we have no 'uno de gato' left, it has been a while since my herbs were last restocked. I am not sure when our next supply will arrive, I thought I may of kept some in these baskets but was wrong."

"Are you aware if any of the villages close by uses these herbs?" I asked her.

Frowning the healer looked back at the hut "None of the close villages I know of keep such a strong herb. There is however a small village to the east that may."

"How far?" I asked her with perhaps a bit too much force.

"Two hours by horse back" she replied, this time with her head bowed.

Determined to find this herb for Clarke I raised my head. "Very well, I shall visit this village"

I could tell the Healer was surprised at my wiliness. It was strange for a Commander to do such an act so I asked the Healer to keep the knowledge to herself.

"Yes Heda" she nodded with a small smile on her face.

Octavia POV

"Illa?" I called out to the Healer, when she didn't respond I poked my head outside the hut to find her watching Lexa argue with Indra before striding over to mount her horse and taking off through the village.

"What's going on?" I questioned her, a grin plastered on the healers face.

"The Commander has gone to find your friend some more 'Uno de gato' in a village east from here." She responded, with that ridiculous grin still on her face.

"Really" I said surprised at the Commander's actions. "I know she care's about Clarke but…" cutting me off Illa pushed me inside the Hut and put her index finger to her lips and shook her head.

Taking a wooden bucket next to her she shoved it into my hands than pushed me out of the hut with one word "Water."

Turning away I rolled my eyes and made my way to the well. As I was filling the bucket I noticed hunter setting up the fire and seeing the sad look in his eyes instantly made me feel bad for him. I'm sure he didn't mean to hit Clarke with the arrow and Lexa had her warriors guard the hut, refusing to let him visit Clarke.

Once I filled the bucket I quickly made my way back to see Clarke and was surprised to see her awake staring at her stomach. She still looked like death but I was happy to see her awake.

"Clarke" I smiled sitting next to her, using the small stool from the corner of the hut.

Looking up at me she winced in pain and tried to joke. "Am I dying?" her voice barely a whisper.

I grinned, "Let's hope not." If she knew how bad her condition was I don't think she would of joked about it.

"Why am I so Hot? I feel like I'm burning from the inside out and why am I wrapped like a mummy?" she asked confused, which confirmed her concussion.

Slowly I recapped to her everything that had happened during the hunting trip, I couldn't help but notice her eyes growing wider by the second.

"The Healer said with all the blood you've lost you'll need some special herb to fight off any infections but she's run out." Seeing the panic in Clarkes eyes I added "don't worry though, Lexa has run off on her white horse wearing her knight and shinning armor to find you some more. Illa said she'll be back by midnight" I couldn't help but grin at Clarke surprised expression.

"Midnight?" she looked at me confused.

"Yeah, the Village is like two hours from here." I replied checking the bandage.

It was then I remembered the fight with Lexa and Hunter. Excited I grabbed her arm and gently shook it, "I almost forgot, you missed Lexa and Hunters fight. It was out the front of the hut and I really wish you had seen it, it was epic. "

"I'm sure it was," she replied

I turned around to the jug of water sitting on the side table and poured her a drink in a small cup "Here you should have some water." Turning back around to her I noticed how still she was. "Clarke?" I whispered, putting my index finger under her nose and nearly lost it when I couldn't feel her breathe.

"ILLA!" I screamed.

Clarke POV

1am

I began hearing voices around me but didn't quite have the strength to open my eyes and join them, from what I gathered Octavia was arguing with an older lady

"It's been an hour since you gave it to her, why hasn't she woken again?"

"She will wake when she's ready" The other lady replied.

I could hear footsteps exiting the room "Where are you going?" Octavia shouted. "Hey what…." I lost the rest of what Octavia was saying, obviously having left the room.

Even though the voices had left I could feel a damp cloth gently being dabbed against my cheeks, then eventually resting on my forehead. Curious I used what strength I had and opened my eyes only to find a pair of very familiar green eyes, surrounded by black war paint scanning every inch of my face. "Lexa?" I whispered.

She instantly straightened up on her stool as if sitting on her throne "How are you feeling Clarke?" her eyes darting to the exit checking if anyone was around.

Trying to sit up I almost split one of my stomach stitches. "Better then before, it's mostly my head now. I feel like a sledge hammer is pounding away in my head."

Lexa's head tilted to the side confused "Sledge Hammer?" she questioned, trying out the words.

"Forget it" I said, too tired to explain.

Frowning Lexa pushed me back down on the cot "The Healer said you must rest, moving will only cause you more pain."

Laying back down I watched as Lexa leaned over me threading her fingers through the left side of my hair. Not sure what to do I gave her a look that said 'what are you doing?'

"I am checking your head wound" she responded, making me wince once her hand made contact with the injury.

I felt slightly embarrassed that I perhaps thought she just wanted to stroke my hair. Looking down at my hands I began fiddling with the hem of my shirt, it wasn't covered in blood so I assumed Octavia had changed me after cleaning my stomach wound.

Leaning away from me Lexa eyed my bandage then handed me a cup of water that had been sitting on a chest next to her. "Here. Drink" she shoved the cup in my hands. Normally I would say something about her demanding nature but instead drunk the water.

"Your clothing was covered in blood, I took the liberty of changing your top for you" she said it like she was speaking of the weather, however the faint pink on her olive cheeks told me a different story.

I would have been able to hid my reaction to her comment had my mouth not chosen to spurt the water from the cup all over her lap. "You did what?"

"I assumed you would prefer to wake in clean clothing" she responded with her eyes once again looking towards the door, a vulnerable expression on her face.

Taking a deep breath I remembered Lexa's culture is quite different to mine. Nakedness probably isn't a big deal for grounders, especially warriors. I wouldn't be surprised if groups bathed naked in the streams without a second thought.

Then again I imagine the commander has special treatment like having her own bath, but she would still have maids of sorts that see her and most likely wash her.

"Your right" I smiled. "I wanted to thank you, Octavia told me how you left the village earlier to find some more herbs for me, you didn't have to do that."

Lexa shrugged like it was no big deal "It was not far away."

Smiling at her I knew that wasn't true but didn't say anything, "Thanks anyway."

I couldn't help but notice her side smile, unnoticeable to most people but after my time with Lexa I have managed to see things others do not.

All of a sudden she straightened up in her chair, all signs of Lexa gone and I was left with the commander. "I have instructed the tournament to be held at noon if you wish to attend" raising from her seat she walked towards the door before stopping and turning her head to me "I am happy you are healing" and then left the hut.

"She has the strangest mood swings," I whispered to myself.

Lexa POV

Striding out the hut I quickly told the healer of Clarke's new condition and once again made my way back to the tree in the woods and climbed to the top branch away from the rest of my people and guards.

"Commander is everything alright" Indra spoke up, obviously concerned.

Needing some time to myself, I looked down at her "Everything is fine Indra, I shall speak to you when ready." She nodded at me and began guarding the tree.

I was surprised at how much relief I felt that Clarke was healing. I needed to focus, tomorrow I would be fighting Hunter again and it is tradition that I fight to the death with him. However I know Clarke would not approve and may not be the best way to win her affection.

I still have not decided if I should kill off Hunter LOL review and tell me what you think.
