I Have Confidence in Me

"Hey," Jade said unlocking the apartment door.

"Hello, Ms. Writer's Assistant," Beck said congratulating his girlfriend with a big hug lifting her off the ground a bit and kiss.

"Thank you and for the record I would like to be called that every time I am addressed," Jade stated seriously but her face broke out into a smile by the end of her statement.

"Have a seat," Beck said helping Jade take off her sweater.

"You made me dinner."

"I did. I made meatless Spaghetti, just like you like it. I also picked up some cheap red wine and I did not refrigerate it so it is warm just like you like it."

"Well, I see this is a very classy celebration. What else?" Jade said looking at Beck expectantly.

"Uh, that's it," Beck said looking unsure.

"O," Jade said looking slightly disappointed.

A smile broke though on Beck's face, "Oh, I forgot. There's also garlic bread."

"Good. I thought you forgot the garlic bread. You can't have spaghetti without the garlic bread. If you had forgotten it I might have had to rethink our entire relationship."

"So tell me everything about how you landed the job," Beck stated as he sat down and the couple started to eat.

"So this morning the writers were working on a rewrite of two different scenes. They pretty quickly figured out how to rewrite the first scene but were having trouble with second one and they ended up breaking for lunch. I had the perfect solution to the rewrite and it would be a plotline that will be brought up next season. I just needed a way to get my idea out there and for it to be taken seriously. So while they were all at lunch I began typing up my idea, printed it, and set it on Gary, the head writer's desk," Jade began detailing the event.

"Jade come meet me in my office," voiced Gary.

"Yeah," Jade said as if she had no clue why he wanted to see her.

He began reading to her:

1. This idea allows the audience to feel shocked but not betrayed.

2. By using this plot point we afford ourselves plenty of material for next season.

3. Do you have any better ideas?

I thought this might help you out. Jade

Jade had written a page describing a new plotline for the show and then listed three reason why the writer's should use it.

"Your proposal would be a game changer. Why did you leave it on my desk and not just give it to me?" Gary asked.

"Well, if I gave it to you I don't think you would have been so curious about it. People constantly give you their suggestions and scripts. You can't take them all seriously. Also, I know it's not my place to make suggestions for the script since I'm not a writer. However, I wouldn't have done so if I didn't feel confident about it. So I left my idea on your desk. You saw it, without a name, my first line was killer, if I do say so myself and I will. You were made curious. After you were done you noticed the arrow and the end of the page. So following the arrow you turned the paper over and saw that I was the author you were curious about. Now here we are," Jade stated standing over the head writer as he remained seated. She was wearing an outfit she had picked out on purpose to look confident without looking too intimidating. She was wearing black pants with a dark blue tank top and her highest boots. Jade had never told anyone before but at important moments in her life when she needed to muster up some extra confidence she would think of the song from The Sound of Music, "I Have Confidence In Me."

"Well, you certainly piqued my interest," Gary said folding his arms across his desk.

"Here's the bottom line. I started as an intern, now I'm an assistant, and one day I want to be a head writer like you. I know you're not looking to hire another writer. However, I know that Ava is leaving at the end of the season and you need to hire her replacement as a writer's assistant. I'm already here. I know the staff, the show, the storylines, and I'm already in the room I just want to get closer to the table. No one would be more driven than me to do well as a WA. That paper in your hands proves how valuable I am and how much potential I have," Jade calmly and confidently made her case. There were only two others from the inside that would possibly be up from the job. One of them had been there longer than Jade. As far as outside competition it would not be at all unheard of for the writers to hire someone on the outside to inject some new energy in the office.

"I have to consult with the writers and the producers but I think we have the next WA," Gary stated.

"Well, hopefully I'll hear from you soon, "Jade said before leaving the office.

"And by five o'clock I heard the good news from Gary. I'm moving on up. Now I will get paid a decent wage to get people coffee and type for them," Jade relayed to Beck has she held her wine glass into the air before bringing it to her lips.

After dinner Beck and Jade started the dishes together. Beck's stint as a guest actor on the tv show, Look Closer, had ended. He was back to waiting tables and looking for roles.

"So how did the meeting with your agent go," Jade asked Beck as she dried the dishes after Beck washed them.

"She gave me a few scripts to read. One of them looks pretty good. But most of them aren't too exciting though. Not yet anyways," Beck said.

"I'll take a look at what your agent gave me later if you want."

"Yeah, definitely," Beck agreed.

"So you only have a few more days left before you're on hiatus. What's next?"

"I have no clue. I'm not closed to anything acting related. Hopefully I can get a lot of writing done though."

"Do you have any ideas?"

"Yeah, I have an idea for a play. It's about a beauty pageant but it has a really dark tone. A lot of the girls know each other from the pageant circuit so there's lots of backstabbing and manipulating. And one of the girls is insane and is psychologically and then physically starts torturing one of the girls. Maybe she's obsessed or in love with one of the girls," Jade rambled on as the creative gears in her mind kept clicking.

"I have to write this down," Jade stated as Beck took the plate she was drying out of her hands before she forgot she was holding it and dropped it. She then dropped the dishtowel she had been using onto the floor.

Beck was use to these creative moments of inspiration that left Jade with a laser focus and made her forget everything else. All he could was let out a small smile and finish the dishes.

So what did you like? What kind of acting job should Beck get next?

In the next chapter you'll see the gang together again. Andre performs at an open mic night and Tori, Cat, Beck, and Jade come for moral support. What should happen while their all together?
