What is up? This chapter is the beginning of the real Reaper war and it's time to crack some synthetic skulls.
Rex and Shepard walked into the meeting room where the three delegates argued
"Absolutely not, we cannot allow the Krogan to regain their old numbers" the salarian delatross said.
"If you want our help we want a cure" Wrex said glaring the salarian down.
"It doesn't matter there is no way to make a cure in time" Victus said.
"A cure already exists" Wrex said queuing up a vid screen "I received this footage three days ago from a trusted source". The video was of a research facility with several Krogan in containment cells marked immune. The camera panned to a small monitor that displayed "All subjects immune to genophage: warning keep subjects isolated"
"Is this true?" Victus asked.
"They were the survivors of a young Salarian's experiments" the delatross answered.
"Mordin's old assistant" Shepard said "We took down his operation, but Mordin kept his research"
Wrex and Victus looked at the delatross with disdain and she said "Fine we're keeping them on Sur'Kesh I will arrange for you to pick them up".
When they arrived on Sur'Kesh Wrex, Shepard, Garrus, and Rex dropped down onto the landing pad much to the displeasure of the salarian guards.
"We're here for the females" Wrex said pointing his shotgun at a salarian.
"Calm down Wrex" Shepard said to his old friend "We need access please"
"We're preparing an elevator for the subject and you can go down in a minute" The salarian commander said "Your friend will have to stay here; the elevator can't support his weight".
"Shepard, go get the females and bring them up here safely" Wrex said.
Shepard nodded before he and the rest of the group entered the elevator. As the trio rode the elevator down into the facility Rex Thought it was odd that the salarian said subject instead of subjects. When the elevator stopped the doors opened and they heard a familiar voice say hello. Mordin stood on the other side of the door holding a small data pad and after the trio greeted him he led them over to a shielded of section of the lab. The Krogan female stood in the cell pacing around the lift kit that would bring her to the surface.
"Where are the other females?" Rex asked
"It is unfortunate; the process that made them immune to the genophage causes a break down in the immune system most of the subjects didn't survive" Mordin said sadly.
"Can you create a viable cure from her?" Shepard asked.
"Yes all I need is DNA from a male Krogan and a cure can be created in a matter of hours" Mordin replied.
"Mordin did you find a solution to the transporter problem?" Rex asked.
"Yes, found solution" Mordin said "Very simple really should give us advantage over the Reapers"
Mordin handed Rex a data disc and Rex place it in the Quantum communicator sending the data on its way to Phoenix and Tali. After loading the female into the lift kit Mordin went over to a panel and began the ascent to the surface. Just as the trio headed to the elevator an explosion rocked the lab.
"Explosion in the elevator shaft" the lab's computer exclaimed.
"Take the emergency tunnel meet me on the next floor" Mordin yelled as he and the female rose out of view.
After going through a hatch and up the ladder the trio came face to face with a Cerberus unit. Rex drew his twin pistols and fired into several soldiers while Garrus and Shepard picked off the rest. After fighting they're way through the floors and dozens of enemies while simultaneously releasing the quarantine locks to let Mordin pass they arrive at the top floor where Wrex was fighting off droves of enemies. After dispatching the enemies the group began to load the female into the shuttle before a massive atlas mech dropped out of the sky. The Mech fired an explosive round at the group that threw them cross the room. The mech walked towards the containment cell and began to slam its powerful arms against it.
"Oh no you don't" Rex cried running towards the behemoth begin to glow with dark red flame. He jumped on the behemoths back and plunged his hands into its cooling fan melting the metal along the way and ripped out the mech's power source.
The engineer stepped out of the mech and attempted to fire his pistol at Rex before being ripped in half by a shotgun blast from the Krogan Female.
"Thanks" Rex said.
"Don't mention it human" The Female said.
After boarding the craft the group and returning to the Normandy they set a course for Phoenix.
"Come in Phoenix" Rex said into his communicator.
"Phoenix responding"
"We need you to punch a whole for the Normandy to enter Phoenix space" Rex said as the Normandy entered the system. A wall of Reapers flew towards them prepping their weapons; Joker increased speed and put all of the ships power into shields. Just before the Normandy came under fire a massive explosion of orange light erupted between them and a massive warship took its place and began firing at the Reapers destroying hundreds at a time with a plasma death ray combination.
"Hot Damn" Joker said as the Reaper lines were broken by more and more ships teleporting behind the reapers and flanked them.
After the Reaper forces were destroyed or had retreated the "Mojave Dream" docked the Normandy and the crew entered the massive ship. Tali ran into Rex's arms and they kissed passionately before Rex asked "How's my baby mama doing?"
"Much better now that you're back" Tali answered reveling in her love's touch "You promise to stay this time"
"Next time you come with me" Rex said kissing her again.
Rex then felt a tug on his shirt and he turned around to see Sharon Shepard holding her stuffed salarian doll.
"What's up little one" Rex asked.
"Mom and Dad said they needed some alone time and that I should go play with you and auntie Tali" Hannah explained.
"Oh they did now" Rex said chuckling "Well then how about I show you around the ship?"
"We get to explore, cool" Sharon said as she darted forward beaconing the pair to follow.
"Is our child going to be like that?" Tali asked.
"Who knows, with parents like that I'm sure that no one is going to be like Sharon" Rex said to Tali as they followed their god daughter around a corner.
After a few hours of rest aboard the Mojave dream the crew of the Normandy and Rex's companions gathered in the war room. When everyone arrived Rex brought up a holographic display of Phoenix and the war fleet.
"Alright everyone, it's time to get down to business" Rex said quieting the room and accessing the comm system "Our first stop is Tuchanka to deliver the Genophage cure to the Krogan people. Then we'll move on to Palaven to break the siege and take advantage of the Turrian's armada. Next, we move to the Asari home world liberate their forces as and the Salarian armada as well on the return trip. Unfortunately even with our advanced fleet there are still millions of Reapers out there which makes the crucible our number one priority; so if we find, steal, or acquire any techs, engineers, physicists, or resources they are immediately to be sent to the crucible project, got that"
Rex stared at the display as the fifty ships that would accompany the "Mojave Dream" came into position around the mass effect relay and his mind wandered to the woman he loved, to the people he saved, and to the future that he and others would now have to fight the greatest enemy ever known for. Rex thought back to something his father said to him when he was young and the NCR was fighting raiders near their home:
"War, War never changes"
