"Hey I am in the kitchen." My mom yelled. Maya and I walked hand in hand to the kitchen. usually the site of this made my mom face become contorted. but this time she was smiling, I actually scared me. "Hey Maya." my mom said wrapping Maya in a hug. she whispered something and her ear and Maya smiled. She gave me a hug and said that we were having spaghetti."That's great mom we just going to go upstairs and finish packing my bags." she nodded her head and we went upstairs. "what did she whisper in your ear?" I asked. "she just said thank you." Maya said laughing. I shook my head not wanting to have this conversation right now. "what all do you need to pack?" Maya asked. "panties, bras, swimsuits, jump suits, socks, hair caps, and goggles." I said laughing. "so basically everything." "pretty much." I said laughing. I started putting everything in my bag when Maya walked up behind me. "I'm going to miss you." Maya said into my neck. I turned around and kissed her. "I'm going to miss you too but I will see you Sunday." I said finishing up packing.

we went downstairs and sat at the table. "Em I'm sorry I'm not going to be able to make you meet Saturday." my mom said sitting the spaghetti in the middle of the table. "it's okay mom I understand." I said sipping my drink. "But tell me what you and Maya talked about." I looked at her and she looked down smiling. "Oh nothing she just help me understand something." she said smiling at Maya. I looked and Maya and she was smiling too. "Understand what?" "Okay she helped me understand the how you feel she gave me some booklet on the gay lifestyle." "Really?" I asked shocked. "Yes I wanted her to understand she needed too to accept you for you." Maya said. I mouthed a thank you to Maya. we ate and had an actual conversation. Maya told my mom about how her friend was coming to live in Philly. "Emily what time are you leaving tomorrow?" Maya asked. "I leave during third block." I said taking a bite of my spaghetti. "well I have to go to work tonight and I usually wouldn't do this but Maya will you stay with Emily tonight." my mom said. I like to chocked and Maya eyes were wide. "Look I know ya'll are dating but I don't know I don't feel comfortable leaving Emily home alone and right now I trust that nothing will happen tonight." my mom said looking between us. "Yes Mrs. Fields nothing is going to happen and to make you feel comfortable I will sleep on the couch." Maya said smiling at my mom. "thank you Maya I just feel bad I can't be here to say goodbye." she said shaking her head. "Mom it's okay I understand completely." I said with compassion. "She nodded well I will clean the dishes and head to work." she said standing up. "I got the dishes mom just go before you are late." I said and she nodded, kissing me on the forehead. She said a quick thank you to Maya and left.

"okay what did you do or say to my mother because the woman seven months ago wouldn't have did or said any of this." I said to Maya with a confused face. "I told you already and for what she knows we aren't having sex so there is nothing to worry about." Maya said taking the dishes to the sink. "Mmhmm." I said rolling my eyes. "Whatever I think she is having a mental break down." I said looking at Maya. "Just be glad she trust us not to do anything okay. Now go sit down I got the dishes." Maya said pointing to the living room. "no I'll help." I said trying to walk into the kitchen but Maya pushes me away. "babe go sit and relax." I said fine and did as she said. There was nothing on TV, I got up and sat at the breakfast bar watching Maya wash dishes. "babe can you answer that?" Maya asked. "your phone wasn't." just then her phone began to ring. "How did you?" "I felt it in my bones babe." she said laughing.

"Hello… Hey Renee its Emily Maya is washing dishes…. no she actually offered to do them….. yeah she is full of surprise isn't she 'I said raising an eye brow at Maya.' "What are ya'll talking about?" I shook my head mouthing nothing. "yeah hold on." I put the phone on speaker.

R: Hey Mimi

M: hey what are you to talking about

R: nothing just how surprised to see that you are actually doing dishes you would never do them back home

M: well I had people do them for me

R: yeah me but I just got a call from Melanie back home and she told me something about you

M: next time ya'll talk tell her I said what's up

R: will do but she heard that you go accepted to USC. Is that true?

M: where did she hear that ' Maya said kind of irritated I looked shocked she didn't say nothing

R: well you know her dad is the guy that sends out acceptance letters and he seen your name and told Melanie and we all know Melanie couldn't keep a secret if you paid her too. so is it true you going back home

Maya looked down at the water and spoke

M:yeah its true I got accepted but I'm not going

R & E: What why not?

M: because I don't want to go back home okay I wasn't even my idea to apply there it was my grandmother so I did it to please her not knowing I would actually get accepted. plus I got accepted someplace else.

R & E: Where?

M: NYU I'm majoring in Music

I had this smile on my face but deep down I was sad. I didn't tell Maya that I had got accepted to Danby yet and now well she was leaving.

R: I'm happy for you Mimi I guess I'll see you tomorrow and I am looking forward to meet you one day Emily.

M: thanks re-re

E: me too

with that Maya hung up the phone and dried her hands off. "I'm sorry you had to find out like that." Maya said with her head down. "I just didn't know how to tell you that I am leaving at the end of graduation." "I know what you mean I got accepted to Danby." I said with hurt in my voice. "baby that's great I'm happy for you." Maya said walking over wrapping me in a hug. "I'm happy for you too I'm just going to miss you." I said with a tear falling down. "We will make this work okay I promise." she said and I nodded my head. I kissed her and we went upstairs to my room. I was tired and ready for sleep. "I promised your mom I would sleep on the couch." Maya said heading for the door. I jumped out of bed and blocked the door. "No you sleeping here with me she not coming home tonight." I said with a mischievous grin. "but I just got back on her good side not trying to go back to Pam hell. I think it worst than the real thing. did you know your mother is cold?" she said grinning back. "she's not that bad and who cares please." I said pouting. Maya kissed my bottom lip and nodded an okay. I cuddled into her arms and fell asleep.

the next morning everything went as usual. I got up, took a shower, got ready, had breakfast and headed to school. Maya even got up the first time I told her too. class went by super fast and third block was her in no time. Maya found me in the hall way and kissed me goodbye. I got on the charter bus and headed to the meet.
