Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha or any of its characters!

A/N: I guess an apology wouldn't mean much but… sorry it's been so long! I'll be honest I've been in a bit of a rut when it comes to this story which sucks because of all the people that like and follow it! Here's another chapter, so enjoy!

"I'm glad that Miroku finally asked Sango! It was about time!" Kagome exclaimed as she walked down the hall during lunch time with Inuyasha.

"Those two need to have a sit down, it's obvious they both like each other," Inuyasha huffed.

"I think it's cute," Kagome smiled.

They continued walking and a few of Kagome's tennis teammates waved at her as she passed. She returned their waves and she turned to the football player next to her.

"Is your brother going to the homecoming game tonight?" Kagome asked Inuyasha.

Inuyasha let out an ungraceful snort, "Who knows, he's such a stuck up jerk."

"Is he going to the dance?" Kagome questioned.

One of Inuyasha's eyebrows rose, "What are you so interested in Sesshomaru for?"

Kagome's eyes shot down, "I'm curious."

"You're curious…" Inuyasha trailed off as a scowl formed on his lips.

Kagome glanced up at him and saw immediately that he was irritated.

"Are you jealous?"

Inuyasha paused with wide golden eyes but quickly recovered, "No."

Kagome sighed, "I don't like him you know… but I'm on the tennis team with Kagura and I know that he went to the dance with her last year."

"So?" Inuyasha rolled his eyes, "What does that have to do with anything?"

Kagome huffed, "You're so dense! Just because you hate Sesshomaru doesn't mean everyone does! Kagura has seemed kind of down and I found out no one asked her to homecoming!"

Inuyasha frowned, "I can't say I'm surprised. Sesshomaru hates that kind of stuff. I have no idea why he went last year."

"I feel bad for her," Kagome shook her head.

Inuyasha shrugged, "There's nothing we can do about it."

Kagome looked determined, "I want to talk to him!"

Inuyasha's jaw dropped slightly, "To Sesshomaru? Are you crazy?"

"I want to see what his reason is for not going!"

"I don't like the idea, but if you feel like you need to… do what you want because I know you won't listen to me when I tell you not to."

Kagome gave Inuyasha a smile, "You already know me so well!"

Inuyasha's cheeks flushed slightly and his eyes shot down, "Shouldn't we be getting to class?"

Kagome glanced at one of the clocks on the wall, "Yeah, I guess we should."

….

Sesshomaru sat alone in the student council office and ate his lunch. He always retreated to the office room during lunch so he wouldn't be bothered. The golfer knitted his elegant eyebrows when the door swung open and he saw his younger brother's woman. She approached him with a determined and fearless expression.

"Sesshomaru, can I talk to you for a second?"

The high school junior placed the bowl of soup he had been eating down on the table top slowly. He gave Kagome a sharp glare with his golden eyes but she didn't back down.

"I'll take that as a no but I'm still going to talk anyway."

Sesshomaru took a deep breath, his peaceful lunch was ruined and now his day was too.

"Are you going to the dance tomorrow?"

Sesshomaru's eyes widened slightly. Wasn't this girl with his brother?

"I know it's short notice, but I really think you should go."

"I'm not interested," Sesshomaru stated bluntly.

"You went last year, why is this year different?" Kagome pressed.

"Why are you sticking your nose where it doesn't belong?" Sesshomaru questioned with a dry hint of sarcasm.

Kagome clenched her fists, "You can quit with the tough guy attitude. I'm here because one of my friends is miserable because she has no one to go to the dance with… and you took her last year."

Realization spread over Sesshomaru's features and he questioned lightly, "Kagura?"

Kagome nodded strongly, "I think you should take her. It would mean a lot to me if you did."

"Why would I do anything for you?"

Kagome rolled her eyes, "Then do it for Kagura! You went with her last year so you must think she's tolerable to be around."

Sesshomaru let out a loud sigh, "If I say I'll think about it will you leave?"

Kagome frowned, "Only if you're being serious."

"I don't joke around."

Kagome stared at Sesshomaru's stony expression, he definitely wasn't one for humor.

"Fine, I'll leave then."

Sesshomaru watched the sophomore leave the room and close the door. He stared down at his soup with a pensive expression.

"Stupid girl," he muttered.

….

"She's alive!" Miroku exclaimed as Kagome walked around the corner toward the classroom.

Sango ran up to the tennis player, "Did you talk to Sesshomaru?"

Kagome nodded, "I did, and apparently Inuyasha told you all about what I was doing."

Miroku shrugged innocently, "I think he was worried."

"I was, Sesshomaru is terrifying," Sango said honestly.

Kagome glanced around, "Where is Inuyasha?"

"I think he's already in the classroom," Miroku nodded at the nearby door.

Kagome strode past them and into the room where Inuyasha was nervously fidgeting at his desk. His eyes shot up when she entered and relief washed over his features.

"You really were worried…" Kagome trailed off.

Inuyasha blinked and scowled, "Of course I was! Sesshomaru is pure evil! Who knows what he could have done with you!"

Kagome shook her head, "You're ridiculous, he's not that bad."

Inuyasha folded his arms, "Well if you feel that way why don't you go to the dance with him."

Kagome's expression fell, "What are you talking about?"

"Kagome!"

Inuyasha and Kagome turned to see Kouga burst into the room.

"What the hell are you doing here? Don't you know this isn't your room?" Inuyasha growled out.

Kouga ignored his teammate and grabbed Kagome's hand, "Oh Kagome! Why do you subject yourself to being friends with someone like him?"

Kagome turned to Inuyasha who looked like he was about to explode.

"Something wrong?" Kouga chided, "It's not like you two are dating or anything, what are you so angry about?"

"Get off her!" Inuyasha barked out as he swatted Kouga's hand away.

"Sheesh," Kouga tossed his head, "Kagome he's so possessive. When you're ready for a real man, come find me."

Kagome's jaw dropped and she watched Kouga strut out of the room with confidence. Inuyasha was seething at her side and she turned to him.

"Calm down Inuyasha, it's not a big deal."

"That guy pisses me off so much!" Inuyasha snarled, "I get enough of him at practice."

"You get too worked up over little things," Kagome muttered, "He probably does things to you because he knows it will get under your skin."

Inuyasha paused and glared at the girl next to him as Sango and Miroku walked into the room.

"What was Kouga doing in here?" Sango asked with a confused expression.

Kagome shook her head, "Don't ask."

"He was flirting with Kagome, wasn't he?" Miroku asked Inuyasha with a small smirk.

"What if he was? I don't care!" Inuyasha spat, trying to act like it didn't bother him.

Sango and Miroku both shook their heads with disappointed expressions. Kagome let out a sigh and opened her notebook to get ready for class.

"What the hell is wrong with all of you?" Inuyasha asked.

Sango and Kagome had moved across the room and sat down at their desks leaving Miroku standing next to the football player.

"Nothing is wrong with us," Miroku started as Inuyasha rolled his eyes, "We're disappointed in you."

Inuyasha's eyebrows shot up, "Why the heck would you be disappointed?"

"Don't you like Kagome?" Miroku asked.

A blush crept over Inuyasha's features, "Why are you asking me that?"

"Do you?" Miroku pressed.

"So what if I do?!" Inuyasha snapped.

"Then why aren't you two dating yet? She likes you too and you've been out together. Now you're going to the dance, what's stopping you?"

Inuyasha scowled, "I don't know."

"When another guy flirts with your lady you need to let him know she's not up for grabs. You sat down and took it from Kouga didn't you? He made you look like an idiot," Miroku stated bluntly.

Inuyasha hesitantly glanced at Kagome and wondered why she seemed irritated with him as well. Miroku narrowed his eyes and could read the question in his friend's eyes.

"She's upset because you didn't put up a fight for her. It made it look like you didn't care."

Inuyasha let out an exhausted sigh, "This is way too complicated."

Miroku shrugged, "You'd better figure it out fast with her because tonight is the game and tomorrow is the dance."

Inuyasha hit his forehead on his desk with a groan, "I know!"

…..

The school day ended quicker than Inuyasha would have liked. He slowly trudged from his final classroom and made his way down the hall toward is locker. He slammed it shut after grabbing what he wanted for the weekend from it. Inuyasha turned and strode over to Kagome's locker with a frown on his features. He waited for her and his heart thudded when he saw her approaching in the distance.

"Kagome!" he called out to her.

She gave him a small smile as she approached him, "Hey, don't you have to get ready for your game?"

Surprise washed over Inuyasha's features as she talked to him as though nothing had happened.

"What?" she questioned.

"Aren't you upset with me?"

Kagome let out a laugh, "About what? The Kouga thing? No way, Sango and Miroku made a bigger deal out of it than it needed to be. I don't care about that and it's not like I want you two fighting each other."

Inuyasha let out a relieved sigh, everything was alright. She brushed by him and grabbed her school books for the weekend.

"Well I'll be heading home. I'll see you tonight, okay?"

Inuyasha nodded without saying a word as she started to walk away.

Kagome turned around at the last minute, "Good luck, you guys better win tonight or it'll make our school look bad!"

Inuyasha couldn't help but let out a laugh, "Right, we'll do our best."

…..

"Dress warm, it's going to be chilly tonight," Kagome's mom said to her with a smile.

Kagome nodded as she pulled a coat on over her sweater. She was waiting for Miroku and Sango to pick her up to head to the homecoming game. It was windy outside and Kagome stared out her front window, anxious for her friends to arrive. After a few minutes passed Miroku's car rolled up in front of her house and she walked to the front door.

"Bye mom! I'll be back later!"

"Have a good time and be careful!"

Kagome smiled and closed her front door behind her. She saw Sango wave to her from the passenger seat of Miroku's car. She pulled open the back door and got in.

"Are you ready?" Sango asked over her shoulder.

"Yep, you can teach me more about football tonight since I'm still pretty clueless!" Kagome laughed.

Sango grinned over her shoulder, "Sounds good to me."

Miroku drove them to the football field where they found a parking spot and made their way to the front gate. There were balloons and signs everywhere indicating it was homecoming. Kagome blinked as she saw a lot of the girls wearing mums on the front of their shirts and jackets. She turned and saw that Sango was wearing one as well.

"What's with the flowers?" Kagome questioned.

Sango looked down, "Miroku got this for me…" she trailed off.

Kagome frowned as they walked toward the bleachers. The game hadn't started yet but both football teams were on the field stretching and warming up. Kagome glanced over at the team and her eyebrows raised as she heard someone shouting.

"Get the hell back here you moron!"

"I'll just be a second, get off my back!"

Kagome's jaw fell slightly in shock as Inuyasha ran up to her holding a clear box.

"I'm sorry, I meant to get this to you today at school… but I was a little distracted by some of the stuff going on."

Kagome reached out and took the box, looking up at him with wide eyes, "Inuyasha!"

He visibly blushed and looked over his shoulder awkwardly, "Well I've got to get back… but I'll see you after, okay?"

Kagome wordlessly nodded and looked down at the cream colored mum in the box. A smile worked its way across her lips and she felt very fortunate at that moment to have someone like Inuyasha in her life. She glanced over at Miroku and Sango who were giving her suggestive looks.

"Put it on!" Sango urged her.

Kagome fiddled with the pin and a few of the soft petals fell on her sweater. She frowned and Sango rushed forward to help her.

"Alright, now that we got that taken care of," Miroku stated as he stared at Kagome's newly pinned mum, "Let's find seats!"

"Right!" Sango and Kagome both nodded as they followed after him.

The bleachers filled up fast and the trio was able to find a spot with a good view of the field. The start of the game arrived and Kagome folded her hands in her lap as the referee blew the whistle for the first kick.
