Katherine slipped off her bike, following after her teammates… her friends as they walked to the center of the bridge so they could send Loki and Thor back home. She watched silently as Bruce picked up the Tesseract and placed it into a container that could hold its power. Thor stepped in front of Loki and held the container out to him. Loki glanced down before grabbing a hold of the other end. There wasn't much room to argue since he wore a muzzle over his mouth. Thor nodded to the other heroes before turning the dial and in a bright flash of light, they were gone. Katherine glanced at Steve before she made her way over to Natasha and Clint.

The redhead handed Bruce his bag before turning to Katherine, pulling the woman into a hug. Katherine smiled and hugged her back. Nothing was said when Natasha pulled away, Katherine looked over at Clint. The man watched them silently before he raised an eyebrow and gave her a small smile. Katherine smiled as she walked around the front of the car, opening her arms for Clint. She could imagine him rolling his eyes under his sunglasses as he wrapped his arms around her in a hug. She was a little surprised he dealt with the contact from someone he'd really just met.

"Thanks for everything." He whispered into her ear. She smiled before pulling away from him.

"No problem, you're one of us now." She said, patting him on the arm. He smiled back at her before he got into the car with Natasha. Katherine turned her attention to Bruce and Tony, the billionaire was shaking hands with Steve so Katherine walked over to Bruce. The man smiled at her before pulling her into a hug. When they pulled away, Steve walked over and shook Bruce's hand while Tony hugged her. Steve and Katherine stepped back from the deep red sports car as they both got in and took off to Stark (now the Avengers) tower. Katherine took in a deep breath before walking over to her Suzuki Boulevard. She sat on the seat before reaching down to start it.

"Where are we going?" She paused and looked up, seeing Steve waiting on his own bike beside her. He was smiling at her, waiting. She leaned against the handlebars, smiling back at him.

"Well, I was going home. If you want to come." Steve reached down to start his bike and that was all the answer she needed. "Alright then, let's go. We're going to Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters." She said before reaching down to start her bike, pulling out onto the streets of New York.

Katherine smiled as Steve pulled up next to her as she stopped in front of the gates. She punched in the code, waiting for the gates to open. Once they were, the pair drove up the driveway, parking off to the the side before turning their bikes off. Katherine got off, waiting for Steve. "Okay, let's go." Katherine all but ran up the steps, opening the door before stepping inside. Steve chuckled after her before following her a little slower. He closed the door behind him as Katherine looked around at the building. "I missed this place."

"So, this is where you grew up?" Steve asked as he looked around. Katherine shook her head slightly.

"I never had a definitive home growing up. I found refuge here after the Team X incident." She knew that Steve had read the files on Team X so she didn't have to explain anything to him. It came with the territory of reading her personal file. "I wonder who's around…" She thought to herself as she looked up and down the halls. There was a moment of silence before a familiar voice broke through the silence.

"Mom?" She turned to the stairs, smiling wide as she saw John standing there. He'd grown a little bit since she'd last seen him, actually matching her five foot seven height. He must've had a growth spurt while she was gone.

"Hey Johnny!" She said. The boy ran down the stairs, almost tackling the woman in a bear hug.

"I missed you mom!" She chuckled lightly.

"I missed you too…" She hugged him tight to her. She pressed a kiss to the side of his head before he pulled away from her, glancing at Steve, who was standing off to the side. "This is Steve Rogers. Steve, this is my adopted son John Allerdyce."

"Nice to meet you John." Steve said, holding a hand out to John. The boy looked at the hand, glancing back at Kat before turning back to Steve. He grasped Steve's hand and shook it tightly.

"You too Steve. So, you work with my mom… I'm assuming Captain America." John said and Steve looked at him surprised.

"How…?"

"Obviously you're not Bruce Banner or Tony Stark. You're not Thor from what I can see and you're not a woman or an archer so… that leaves the Captain." Steve glanced at Katherine, she smiled at him.

"His powers of observation are amazing aren't they?" She asked playfully. John rolled his eyes with a chuckle.

"Thanks mom." John said. Steve smiled at the easiness of their relationship after she'd been gone for so long. John glanced at his watch, taking in a deep breath before he turned to look at her. "I have to go, I have class with Scott."

"Ooh, have fun." Katherine said with a sarcastic air in her voice. John playfully glared at her before pulling her into another hug.

"Yeah, totally. How long are so staying?" He asked as he began to slowly walk down the hall to the classroom. She smiled at him.

"As long as I can, I don't think SHIELD is going to need us for a while." She glanced at Steve, who smiled back.

"Alright." John smiled. "I'll see you later mom. Nice to meet you Steve."

"You too John." Steve said, the couple watching as the blonde boy disappeared down the hall. "He's a nice boy."

"He hasn't always been that way." She said, reaching down and grabbing her bag before motioning for him to follow her up the stairs.

"He hasn't?" Steve asked.

"No, he had a bit of a troubled childhood with his powers and all." Steve glanced at the woman. "He is a pyrokinetic. He can't create fire, only control it. I'm sure if you stay here you're going to notice that he always has a lighter on his person, I gave it to him shortly after we brought him to the institute. It makes the fire for him. I was the one to recruit him when he was young. He has some major anger management issues, he reminds me of Bruce now that I think about it." She opened a door before stepping inside; she smiled at seeing her old room.

"This is nice." Steve said, stepping inside as well.

"Thanks, this used to be my old room. We can fit a second bed in here for you, since I don't know if we have any rooms open with the kids still in school." She said, throwing her bag on her bed before looking around thoughtfully. Steve smiled at her, walking up behind her to wrap his arms around her, pressing a kiss to the side of her head. He was really surprising himself with how bold he was being around Katherine, he wasn't even sure where they stood as a couple. She smiled, leaning back into him before suddenly clapping her hands, causing Steve to jump. "Well, we should go see the Professor." She grabbed Steve's hand, lacing their fingers together as they made their way back down the stairs.

"The Professor?" Steve asked.

"Yeah, Charles. He's the one who took me in. He runs the school." She looked back at him over her shoulder, smiling. Steve couldn't help but smile back. They came to the end of the hallway, two large doors standing tall. Katherine released Steve's hand, pushing the door open without knocking.

"Katherine! How nice of you to come home." Charles said as he looked up from the papers on his deck before rolling himself around his desk. Steve noticed he didn't look surprised by her not knocking when she entered. Katherine smiled as she walked over to Charles, leaning down to hug him.

"Oh Charles, you know I would never leave this place. This is my home." She said, standing up to her full height before glancing behind her to see Steve standing almost awkwardly in the doorway. "Charles, I'd like for you to meet –"

"Steven Rogers." Charles said as he wheeled himself towards the super soldier. Steve straightened his back and almost saluted to the shorter man. Katherine chuckled slightly.

"Relax Steve." Blue eyes glanced at her hazel before he looked back at Charles, relaxing his stance slightly.

"It's nice to finally meet you sir. Kat has said some really great things about you." Steve said, shaking the Charles's hand.

"Good, I was worried she'd say some bad things." The man said, looking back at her and winking. Katherine rolled her eyes and chuckled lightly.

"Never Charles. Say, where's Logan at?" She asked, hoping to see her little brother. Charles chuckled.

"He's currently recruiting a new student." Charles said, rolling back behind his desk.

"He's recruiting someone?" She asked with a little disbelief in her voice.

"I know, it seems odd but he's got a friend with him." Charles said without looking up at the woman. She raised an eyebrow and tilted her head slightly.

"Okay… So Steve, I think we should go take a nap… we've had a long day." Katherine said as she turned to the soldier.

"Uh… sure. It was nice to meet you Charles." Steve said as Katherine pulled him from the room. Charles chuckled as they left the room, closing the door behind them.

"Children…" Charles said to himself as we went back through his papers.

Katherine slipped back into the bedroom, toweling her hair off. She looked at the bed and smiled, seeing Steve sound asleep. The fighting had been hard on them all but as leader, not only was Steve's body pushed to the max but so was his mind. He had to worry about himself as well as the safety of not only six other heroes and every civilian in New York City. That would take a lot out of someone.

She threw the towel on the back of her desk chair before gently crawling over Steve to lie between Steve's chest and the wall. She flinched slightly when Steve began to shift, only to smile when a strong arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her close. She smiled, tucking her head under Steve's chin before closing her eyes, deciding that a little sleep would be nice.

A few hours later, there was a knock at her door. She blinked a couple of times, noticing that Steve wasn't in bed. She glanced around, seeing the bathroom door cracked and she could hear the shower running. She slipped out of bed, wondering over to the door before opening it. John was standing on the other side, waiting patiently.

"Hey mom, dinner's ready." He said, smiling at her. She smiled back.

"Alright, thanks John. We'll be down in a few minutes."

"Okay, see you there." John walked back towards the stairs and Katherine closed the door softly. She walked towards the bathroom, knocking on the door loud enough that Steve could hear.

"Steve, dinner's ready whenever you're done." She called into the small room.

"Alright, you can go ahead if you'd like." He called back.

"I don't want you to get lost. I can wait besides; with the amount of students here there is always extra food."

"Alright, if you're sure."

"I am, I have to change anyway." Katherine moved over to her closet, pulling out a black tank top, a pair of red skinny jeans, a black leather jacket and black knee high boots. She quickly put them on, standing in front of her vanity to braid her hair back when Steve came out of the bathroom. He was dressed in a tight, white T-shirt, a pair of blue jeans, and a pair of black military style boots. Katherine watched him in the mirror as he moved around the room when she felt a hard snag in her hair. Glancing at her hair once again, she saw that she'd managed to tangle her fingers up. She tried to pull them free before she sighed and turned to the solider. "Steve, can you help me?" She asked. He turned, chuckling as he walked over to her.

"How did this happen?" He asked, gently working his large, calloused finger through her hair, detangling her fingers.

"I got distracted." She said, turning her eyes from him to look to the side. He chuckled again, gently running his fingers through her hair once her fingers were free. He leaned in and pressed a quick, gentle peck to her lips. She smiled as he pulled away, turning her hazel eyes to look into his ice blue ones.

"What distracted you?" He asked with an air of playfulness to him.

"Nothing…" She mumbled before looking at the clock on the wall. "Come on, let's go to dinner." Steve chuckled, following the woman out of the room and down the stairs. They came into the dining room and while there were still some kids there, they were the older kids. "Hey, hey, hey!" She said, dancing into the dining room.

"Kathy!" She smiled when she saw every one of the kid's and adult's heads turn towards her.

"Hey everyone." She got a plate of food before handing one to Steve, making their way to the table.

"Where have you been?" Scott asked, sliding an arm around Katherine's shoulder in a side hug.

"Here and there, working." She glanced around the table. "Where's Logan?"

"Still gone." Jean said as she looked up at the other woman. Katherine nodded as she sat down beside Steve, who had taken a seat beside John. The table was quiet for a moment and Katherine couldn't help but crack a smile when Steve shifted from the uncomfortable nature of it.

"Everyone, this is Steve Rogers. Steve, this is Scott Summers, Hank McCoy, Jean Grey, Ororo Monroe, Bobby Drake, Rogue, Kitty Pryde, Peter Rasputin, and you already know John." Katherine said, pointing to each person. Steve waved shyly before turning back to his food. Dinner went off without a hitch, the kids engaging Steve into conversation. He seemed at ease while talking to them, something she'd neglected to see for a while when working with the Avengers. Of course, the Avengers had Tony Stark on the team…

"Gumbo, shut up!" She glanced to the doorway, the voice was very familiar.

"Come on monsieur. It's all in good fun." Katherine stood up; she remembered the second voice as well.

"Again, shut up." The first voice said again.

"Is that…?" Katherine turned to everyone, who smiled back at her.

"Come on Logan! You know you like having me around!" The second voice said right before two figures came through the doorway. Logan was leading the way with Remy LeBeau behind him.

"Jimmy…" She said, smiling at the man. He turned around, eyes landing on his sister.

"Hey!" She said, laughing as Logan bolted forward, wrapping his arms around his sister in a tight hug. "How have you been?" She asked, patting Logan on the head as he put her down.

"Waiting for you to come home." He said before pointing over his shoulder at the Cajun man smiling behind him. "And dealing with the bub behind me."

"You see how rudely he treats me chere?" Remy said, slipping by her brother to pull the woman into a hug. Katherine laughed as she wrapped her arms around him. She pulled away and laid a hand on Steve's shoulder.

"Steve, this is my brother Logan and one of my best friends, Remy." Steve stood up and turned to both men. He held his hand out for Logan to shake.

"It's nice to meet you, Kat's told me a lot about you." Katherine watched as Logan glanced down at Steve's hand before placing his in it. She could tell that they were having an intense handshake when she saw the muscle bulging in both of their arms.

"I think I'm good without a handshake." Remy said as he leaned over to her slightly. She chuckled lightly and nodded. Remy moved into the kitchen to make himself a plate of dinner. Katherine stepped forward, placing her hand on theirs.

"Alright boys, the macho contest can wait. At least try to get along for me." She said walking back over to the table and sitting down to eat. Steve followed her lead, after a nod to Logan. Her brother made his way into the kitchen to get his plate. The room was quiet, everyone waiting to see what Logan was going to say.

"So Steve…" He said from the kitchen and Katherine rolled her eyes. "How exactly to do know Kathy?" He asked as he came and sat on the other side of her.

"We're both a part of the Avengers." Steve said calmly, watching the large man. It surprised Steve that Logan was two inches taller than him, so knowing his power and how big he was… it kind of intimidated him.

"Hm… Captain America, right?" Logan asked before taking a bite of his food. Steve nodded.

"Yes, I am."

"The war hero…"

"Stop Logan." Katherine said, she knew where he was going with the war hero. She could hear the sarcasm in his voice. They'd fought in World War II; she knew how he felt about the whole Super Solider Project. She stood up and stretched. "Well, play nice. I'm going to bed. I'll see you all in the morning." She said, putting her plate in the kitchen before walking towards the stairs. She heard Steve excuse himself, following her. She came into the room, seeing that Charles had someone bring in the second bed. She grabbed Steve's bag, putting it on his bed before walking over to hers and lying down, fully clothed and fell asleep. She vaguely heard Steve come in and change before laying down in his own bed.
