I'm sooo sorry it's taken me this long to update! But thanks for reading this so far! And I'm also sorry if parts of this don't coincide with the books. I read them so long ago I'm not sure if I remember exactly.
"Well, it seems your ankle is sprained; not horribly, you should be able to walk on it in a few days. I'm also assuming that your mind is still in shock over the recent events that have happened to you as well, and that would explain the loss of breath and weakness in your legs." The Erudite doctor explains to me.
"When will she return to normal?" Tobias asks.
She shakes her head. "I'm a physician, not a psychiatrist. It wouldn't surprise me if she ended up having post-traumatic stress disorder or another serious mental disorder. If the story you both have told me is true, that trauma that you have both gone through may have lasting effects."
I swallow. "Thank you for your time."
The receptionist shows up at the doctor's office door, waiting to show Tobias and I outside. "I'll show you the door." She offers.
Tobias and I walk- well Tobias walks; I hobble as he grabs my arm to help stabilize me- over the receptionist waiting at the threshold.
The doctor nods. "Thank you for stopping by. And Tris," I turn back to face her "try and stay off that ankle if you can, don't hurt it more." She warns me.
"So do you know where your brother is, exactly? Or are we kind of just blindly walking around right now?" Tobias asks me a few hours later.
My ankle hurts, but if I try and hold most of my weight on my opposite leg the pain is somewhat bearable and I can walk on my own.
I think for a few minutes. "The last time I saw him was when I was still an initiate. I honestly have no idea where we should go."
"Do you mind if we stop and think about where to go?" He asks, dropping onto the ground.
"We can't just go around and ask random people if they know of a Caleb Prior, can we?" I ask him as I plop on the ground beside him.
He shakes his head and runs a hand through his hair.
Someone clears their throat behind us. "Can I help you?" The person asks.
My mouth gapes open when I realize who it is; Jeanine.
"My wife was just feeling homesick and missing her brother so we thought we'd stop by and say hello." Tobias lies through his teeth.
"Ah, I see. Try not to make a habit of these things, eh? But please continue with your evening." She says sharply, obviously wanting to snap at us but not knowing exactly what for.
I hold my breath as she walks away, praying she wouldn't return and hang us or something.
"Hey, look at that girl. She looks nice." I say, pointing down a road. I push myself to my feet and slowly trudge over towards her. She's young, only twelve or maybe even eleven and looks innocent enough to tell us the honest answers to our questions.
"Hi. Um, my name is Tris. And over there is my husband, Four." I point to Tobias where he's still sitting on the ground. "And we were wondering if you've ever heard of anyone named Caleb Prior? He's an Erudite too." I add, as if that would help.
She nods. "Why do you need to know if I know him?"
"He's my brother and I guess we'd just like to say hello to him. We don't know where he lives." I explain, as gentle as I can muster.
The girl grins. "He lives with me. He's my brother too."
"What are you talking about?" I ask.
She rolls her eyes with a grin on her face. "He's married to my sister."
My eyes just about pop out of my head. "Well, could you take us to him then?" I ask.
She nods.
"Four! Come here!" I yell over to him, watching us warily from afar.
"What?" He asks, getting up and walking over to us.
"Her sister's married to Caleb. She's going to show us where he lives."
"Um, okay." He says, most likely internally questioning my sanity of trusting a little girl that I just met.
As we walk with the girl, I can't help but notice the lack of chaos here. At home, everyone was a mess yet in Erudite, everyone was calm and going about their day as normal. Maybe nothing had happened here at all?
Suddenly, the girl stops walking and turns into the driveway of one of the multiple houses lining the streets. "This is where I live. He should be home right now." She explains, leading us through the front door.
"Misty? Who are these people?" A woman asks, walking to the foyer where we stood awkwardly.
"They were asking for Caleb so I brought them home." The girl- Misty evidently- explains.
"And why do you need to see my husband?" The woman demands, glaring at Tobias and I.
Tobias looked at me, willing me to talk. "Um, he's my brother. I haven't seen him in years so I wanted to drop by and talk to him again." I explain.
"You must be Beatrice, then?" She wonders.
My eyes light up. He must've talked about me to her. My brother still cared about me!
I nod. "I go by Tris now, but yes."
"And is he your boyfriend?" She asks, gesturing to Tobias.
"My husband, actually."
"Ah, well come inside and sit in the kitchen. I'll go find him."
We take our seats in the kitchen with Misty. "So, you're both Dauntless? How's that? It sure seems like a lot of fun."
"When you aren't training it is." I admit.
"I bet you have to run," Misty muses "I hate running."
"Well if we didn't work so hard, you wouldn't be nearly as safe as you are now, correct? Are Dauntless not the police of the city?" Tobias says sharply.
Misty looks scared to death. She reminds me of Lillian. "Yes, sir. Sorry." She bows her head and stares at the wood in the table.
I smack Tobias's leg under the table. He looks at me questioningly. Be nice I mouth. He rolls his eyes.
Then my brother walks in. I gasp.
