Luckily for Katie and the others first year, they had the next day, Sunday, to explore and know the school better and not get lost. And they also got the chance to rest.

Katie and Mallory walked together to the Great Hall for lunch. They were joined by Pansy Parkinson and Millicent, who were in Slytherin and first year as well.

As Katie grabbed more peas, she looked to her left and watched a raven-haired girl walking to the Slytherin table. She smiled as she recognized the girl. Katie waved at her hand and told the girl to go over.

"Katie!"

"Hi Sapphire!" Katie smiled at the girl.

Sapphire Black was a really beautiful girl. With long, raven hair and icy blue eyes. Katie and Sapphire were really good friends since they had known each other all their lives. Sapphire's father was Narcissa's cousin, so Sapphire and Katie were like cousins too. She was three months older than Draco, and fifteen months older than Katie, so the three of them got along pretty well.

Earlier that day, Professor Severus Snape had given them their schedules. First years must take Transfigurations, Charms, Potions, History of Magic, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Astronomy, Herbology, and Flying lessons.

During the whole day, Katie hadn't had the chance to talk to Harry, Ron or Shannon. She wanted to talk to them, but she hadn't even seen them.

Sunday was over soon and before Katie and everyone else knew it, it was Monday. First day of school. Katie woke up around 7:10 a.m. she had no problem waking up early because she was used to it. She didn't remember a day when she woke up after 9:00 a.m., not even on a Saturday or Sunday.

Katie put on her uniform and put her blonde, thin hair into a high, perfect ponytail. She grabbed her backpack loaded with her books and notebook and headed to the Great Hall.

Once there, she spotted Sapphire and sat in front of her. Draco was already there too, eating with Crabbe and Goyle. Katie disliked them so she didn't sit with Draco. Katie grabbed some toast with jam and some yogurt and ate in silence.

When it was 8:45 a.m. she decided it would be best to start leaving to not be late on the first day of school. She walked alone to Charms, her first class, since Mallory, Pansy and Millicent were still eating and Sapphire stayed behind, talking with Draco.

Katie looked at her schedule and read the Charm s classroom was in the third floor, so she walked there. Hoping the stairs wouldn't move, which they didn't.

She found the classroom quite quickly and when she walked in she saw about six students already there, three girls and one boy from Ravenclaw, one Hufflepuff boy and a girl from Gryffindor.

Unlike them, Katie chose a seat in the back of the room. She took out her things and waited for the rest to come.

Draco smiled at her when he saw her, and sat two rows ahead of her, with another Slytherin boy. Sapphira walked smiling, towards Katie sitting next to her.

Millicent and Pansy sat together, in the desk next to Katie's. Mallory was one of the last people to get to class, and she realized there weren't any available seats. She looked at Katie frowning, Katie only shrugged. She sat next to Shannon Weasley.

Charms wasn't that bad, but Katie already knew the spell they practiced today. She had known it for years. Mr. Flitwick talked no stop and Katie got bored quickly and started to daydream until it was time for their next class.

Transfiguration. This time Katie was one of the last students to get to class but she still managed to get on time. This time Mallory was next to Sapphire and when she saw Katie, she stuck out her tongue at her, Katie rolled her eyes at her, and sat in the front row, the only desk that was still completely empty.

"Transfiguration is some of the most complex and dangerous magic you will learn at Hogwarts." McGonagall said. "Anyone messing around in my class will leave and not come back. You have been warmed."

Then she changed her desk into a pig and back again. Everyone including Katie, couldn't wait to do that as well, but instead McGonagall made them do an essay and copy some paragraphs. Katie sighed but did as she was told.

Some minutes later, the doors being opened and rushed footsteps were heard. Katie looked up and saw Ron, Harry and Shannon running to the front of the class.

"Whew, amazing, can you imagine the look on old McGonagall's face if we were late?" Ron said to Harry and Shannon, a big smile on his lips.

Then the tabby cat that was on McGonagall's desk jumped off the desk and turned into Professor McGonagall herself. The three of them gasped in amazement at that.

"That was bloody brilliant." Ron said to her.

"Thank you for that assessment, Mr. Weasley. Maybe if I were to transfigure Mr. Potter, your sister and yourself into a pocketwatch, maybe one of you would be on time." McGonagall said to Ron, in a harsh tone.

"We got lost." Harry exclaimed.

"Then perhaps a map? I trust you don't need one to find your seats."

Harry, Ron and Shannon looked around trying to find an empty seat. Ron sat next to Neville, a Gryffindor as well, Shannon sat next to a brow-haired girl called Hermione and Harry had no choice but to sit next to Katie.

Katie grabbed her backpack from the chair so Harry could seat and put it next to her on the floor, Harry sat next to her and took out his things and started writing. Katie looked at him, wanting so bad to talk to him. She liked him, he was her only friend during the holidays, he was important to her. And she was important to him, she was the only one that stood up for him.

"Won't you talk to me?" Katie suddenly whispered. "Like ever again?"

"Everyone says Slytherins are evil." Harry whispered back.

"We were friends before, can't you take that into account?" Katie asked hurt. "I didn't care you were a muggle when I met you, I still befriended you. It turned out you weren't one, but still, I didn't care about that, but if that's your decision then we're done."

"Your brother is a Slytherin and a brat!" Harry exclaimed raising his voice a little. "He insulted Ron in front of everyone!"

"Yeah, he did. I did not." Katie said. "I know about Ron's family, and when Mallory told me his and Shannon's last name, I stayed there and was friendly to them. I didn't tell you to not hang out with them, I didn't leave or say anything rude, you are being childish, jumping to conclusions about me because of my brother, who you don't even know!"

Harry said nothing after that. He kept working on his assignment, Katie glared at him and sighed in frustration, she finished her assignment quickly and gave it to McGonagall. Soon the class was dismissed and she left in a hurry to her next class.

Katie didn't talk to Harry for the rest of the day. She was really upset. She really didn't think Harry was judgmental or anything like that. He really wasn't worth it anyway if he was judging her because of her house and her brother, who Katie loved to death.

The next day the first years had a class Katie had been waiting eagerly. Potions. She didn't know why she liked it so much, but she finds it fascinating the different reactions things have when they get mixed.

Katie sat next to her brother, who was in the front row. These desks were large tables where lots of people could fit, not only two or three.

Suddenly the door slammed open and Snape came rushing in. Everyone stopped talking at once, he was quite intimidating.

"There will be no foolish wand waving or silly incantations in this class. As such, I don't expect many of you to enjoy the subtle science and exact art that is potion making. However, for those select few." Draco started smiling at him. "Who possess the predisposition, I can teach you how to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses. I can tell you how to bottle fame, brew glory and even put a stopper in death." Most people gasped at that and Draco and Katie looked at each other excitedly.

Snape stopped talking and looked at Harry, who was writing down everything Professor Snape was saying. Snape crossed his arms and kept looking at Harry.

"Then again, maybe some of you have come to Hogwarts in possession of abilities so formidable that you feel confidant enough to not...pay...attention."

At that Hermione nudged Harry in the ribs, he didn't know Snape was talking about him. Harry stopped writing and looked up.

"Mr. Potter. Our...new...celebrity. Tell me, what would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?"

Hermione's hand skyrocketed. Seeing this Katie also raised her hand, since she knew the answer, it was really easy. Harry just shrugged.

You don't know? Well, let's try again. Where, Mr. Potter, would you look if I asked you to find me a bezoar?"

Hermione's hand shot up again. Katie not wanting to be beaten, raised her hand again, looking at Snape with a pleading expression.

"I don't know, Sir." Harry said, Snape's lips curled into a sneer.

Crabbe, Goyle, Draco and other Slytherins were chuckling while the others were just looking at Harry and Snape in complete silence.

"Let's try again, what is the difference between Monkshood and Wolfbane?

"I don't know, Sir." Harry said, not looking away from Snape's cold, black eyes. "I think Hermione does, though, why don't you ask her?"

Some people laughed at what Harry said, Seamus Finnigan even winked at him. Severus looked not pleased though, he looked pretty upset.

"Miss Malfoy please lower your hand." Severus said to Katie, while walking towards Harry. "And you, drop your hand, silly girl." He said harshly to Hermione.

"For your information, Potter." Snape said, when he was right in front of Harry. "Asphodel and wormwood make a sleeping potion so powerful it is known as the Draught of Living Death. Monkshood and wolfsbane, they are the same plant, which also goes by the name of aconite." Snape stopped and looked at Katie. "Miss Malfoy, now since you were so eager, can you tell us where can you find a bezoar?"

"A bezoar is a stone taken from goats' stomachs." Katie answered quickly. "It will save you from most poisons."

"Correct Miss Malfoy." Snape said, walking back to his place in the front of the classroom. "Ten points to Slytherin. And why isn“t any of you copying that down?"

Suddenly the room was filled with the noise of rummaging for quills and parchment. Katie didn't need to write the answers down but did it anyway, it could be on the exam.

"And a point will be taken from Gryffindor House, for your cheek, Potter." Snape said over the noise.

As the class continued, things only got worse for the Gryffindors. Snape put them into pairs to work on a potion to cure boils. It was quite simple. Snape obviously, critized almost everyone except for the Malfoy siblings, who were the only pair that seemed to know what they were doing. And Snape also seemed to like Draco and Katie more than the rest of the students.

Suddenly one of the potions was seeping across the floor. It was Neville's of course. Everyone got on their stools, to get away from the potion that was burning holes in the big wooden table.

"Idiot boy!" Snape snarled. He cleared the potion with only a wave of his wand. "Finnigan take Longbottom to the hospital wing." Snape ordered when he noticed boils started to pop all over his face, it was quite disgusting.

Another hour that seemed like it would never end, passed and they were free to go to their next class.

Katie caught Harry looking at her before they left to their next class. Katie looked back at him, refusing to look away. She didn't smile at him or anything, she just stared back. Harry suddenly looked away, gathering his stuff. Katie turned around to leave with her brother and Mallory.

Katie really liked him during the summer when she met him, but now she was really upset with him. She thought he was different. She wondered what Ron and Shannon thought about her? They hadn't talked to her, but could they also be judgemental like Harry?

She hadn't done anything to them, apart from being nice. Ron had even laughed at her brother's name and she said nothing to him, even when she had to. She didn't like that but she let it slip.

At least the other Slytherin girls, Pansy and Millicent were nice. And she also had her cousin, Sapphire, she also had Mallory and of course, her brother.
