The Beginning of a Happy Ending

CHAPTER 11

Mitsuki POV:

"Thanks Ooshige, I'll let you know if I need a ride home later!" I said as I got out of the car to wait outside the studio building since it was closed on Sundays.

"It's no problem, Mitsuki. But are you sure you want to hang around that guy?" my manager asked with conscern in her brow.

"I'll be fine." I reassured her with a smile and a nod. She then gave me a thumbs-up wishing me luck and drove away. I was wearing a pair of high-rise shorts and a long sleeved yellow blouse which had silver buttons down my torso and tucked into the pants. I'd thrown on some pink converse sneakers and left my hair down for an effortless look. I decided to sit on a nearby bench to wait for Helios but before I could sit I heard his irritartingly smug voice behind me,

"Yo Lady-chan!" I turned around surprised at his quick arrival.

"Wow, you made it right on-time!" I said as I looked at the clock on my cell phone. He was wearing casual clothes like me; a graphic tee, some tight jeans, and a black fedora hat which looked very good on him and complemented some stylish slip-on shoes.

"A gentleman never leaves a girl waiting." He flashed his perfect teeth through a sly smile as he said this, clearly teasing.

"Ok… so where are you planning on taking me?" I inquired with my hands at my hips.

"You'll see in a bit!" he said as he suddenly grabbed my hand and started walking toward the parking lot. My heart jumped in surprise at his sudden touch.

"H-hey-" I started protesting but was interrupted at seeing the flashy red sports-car which Helios was now opening at the passenger door.

"Ladies first!" he said with a wink as he offered me my seat. Not gonna lie, I was impressed he had such a car.

"W-whoa! Uh, this is yours?" I asked dumbfounded.

"No, I stole this from the company president." he said with a straight face.

"WHAT!?"

"You dummy, of course it's mine! So get in already!" He said as he laughed at my gullibility. I groaned in embarrassment and got in the car. He's such a bully even on a date! We drove in awkward silence for about five minutes and all of a sudden I started seeing patterns of light outside the window. I realized it was a Ferris wheel.

"Are we going to an amusement park?!" I said with peaqued interest.

"You guessed right! Do you like that sort of thing?" he asked a little bashfully.

"Yes! They are so much fun! I heard there was one near work but I've never been to it before." I said excitedly. He blushed a little at seeing my reaction and quickly looked away.

"Good 'cause I'd call you a baby if you didn't!" he tried to sound jerky but it was evident that he was just trying to hide his own excitement. He reminded me of a little kid! I started to giggle.

"What's so funny?" he said as he pulled into a parking spot and turned off the ignition.

"Oh, it's nothing. Let's go!" We walked around the park looking for rides to go on. Helios automatically pointed at a haunted house saying,

"Let's go on that so you can hold me tight when you're scared!" with a sparkle in his eye, like he'd been planning for it all along.

"Ew, I would never hold you!" I stuck out my tongue at him defiantly.

"Oh yeah? Let's go in and you can try to prove me wrong!" he challenged and I took the bait. And in fact, Helios ended up being the one to hold my arm a few times as he screamed like a girl and I laughed my head off. When we got off the ride he was pretty relieved and said, "Ugh… That was not at all what I expected. Let's never speak of this again!" as he wiped some cold sweat from his forehead. I chose a carousel for our next ride which was nice. Then we went on 2 roller coasters and then we had cotton candy and played some carnival style games all with our usual banter. Helios was really good at playing darts and won the grand prize.

"Congrats young man," Said the man behind the darts booth, "You get to choose whatever you want from the top shelf!"

"Hmm…." Helios thought as he rubbed his chin. He looked at me and said, "What would you choose?" I spotted a stuffed-animal cat with a jingle-bell collar. It reminded me of Takuto's plushy form from the old days. I wonder if Takuto has seen my message… last time I looked at my phone there was no reply yet.

"I'd get that kitty over there." I said as I pointed at it, feeling a little melancholy nostalgia. Helios didn't seem to notice my mood change but instead picked the toy out and shoved it into my arms sheepishly. I smiled at his gesture and came to realize throughout the night that, Helios, although mean sometimes, really had a kind heart. He just had a hard time expressing his feelings. Towards the end of the night we went on our last ride, the Ferris wheel I'd seen when we first pulled into the park.

"Waaaah! It's so high up here!" I said in awe.

"So what? The roller coasters were high, too!" Helios mused at me.

"But that was different 'cause we were moving too fast to enjoy the view… this is so cool! I can see a lot of the city from up here." I said as I gazed out into the city lights against the now darkened sky.

"Huh. I guess that's a good point…" he said nonchalant. I looked over at him and stared at him for a few seconds, noticing he was acting a little downbeat.

"Helios, are you ok? You're suddenly not taunting me…" I half joked. He was sitting right next to me staring into my eyes. My heart beat a little faster as it hit me how physically close we were. I wasn't sure what I was feeling… Do I kind of like him?! He then put his arm around my shoulders and sighed a little exasperated, like he was nervous.

"Aah, Lady-chan… I really like you a lot." He confessed with a soft smile. I blushed at this and didn't know what to say. He slowly raised his hand to my cheek and leaned his face in towards mine, planting a kiss on my lips.

Takuto POV:

I was just getting out of the shower in my hotel room after another long night of performing when I thought to look at my phone since I hadn't had a chance to all day. My heart jolted when I saw Mitsuki had texted me hours ago! It read, Hi Takuto! Would you be free to get coffee on Friday after work?

"Crap!" I said out loud. Friday was the day I'd be going to perform in Nagano… But I just had to make time for her! I texted back, Hey Mitsuki, I can do coffee at the nearby café during lunch break at noon if that's alright? My heart raced as I waited for a reply, but none came right away. I mean, what did I expect, that she'd be waiting with bated breath for my texts? She was probably out with that guy right now… the thought pissed me off. I couldn't sleep so I stayed up late playing my guitar and writing a new song.

Meroko POV:

I was about to pull my hair out in fist-fulls as I watched Helios Grey kiss Mitsuki from above on a cloud.

"Why is she letting him kiss her! Arrggh!" I wailed to myself in frustration. I couldn't cause mischief to break up the kiss like I would as a shinigami because I was an angel now, which meant I could only do good. Then, from the corner of my eye I saw someone sitting on the machinery of the Ferris wheel in a crouched position. This couldn't be a human.

I looked closer and saw that it was a guy with blonde hair, wearing a familiar black and yellow suit, small white wings and dog ears… It was none other than Izumi! But what was he doing here? Was someone going to die at the amusement park?! No… he seemed to be just watching something. I followed his line of sight and realized he was looking straight at Mitsuki and Helios! Great, it was bad enough that Helios was getting in the way, but Izumi was definitely bound to cause more trouble. He has no business with Mitsuki! I decided to swoop down and demand some answers but just as I was flying down, his sharp eyes looked straight at me and he quickly made an escape into the crowds of people below. I stopped in mid-air, startled and looking around for a sign of him but it was too late.
