Chapter 11 - Doors!
Keri watched the Swat team as they smashed the door in. There goes the plan of gaining entry undetected. She shot an amused look at Ben and Aneisha, but Ben glared at her like she'd just committed murder.
As they trampled over the remains of the door they immediately dashed for cover behind a conveniently up turned table when gun shots recoiled against the wall behind them.
"Right, Aneisha, Keri and Ben your job is to find the others and get them out, let the swat team handle everything else!" Frank ordered through coms.
"Ok." Ben grunts before taking a small object out of his pocket. He hands it to a swat team member, he turns to the girls and mouthed run as the swat team member launched it over the table to the KORPS guards. There was a tremendous bang followed by a serious of satisfying thuds.
The trio sprint past the KORPS agents unconscious bodies and deeper into the KORPS base.
Tom was lounging in the coms van when he noticed an unusual spike in the electricity the KORPS base was using. It was brief, it could have been a mistake, but something told him it wasn't. Fingers typing rapidly he started looking for what the source of the electrical spike could be.
His blood ran cold. KORPS had built a bomb...
Zoe tensed as she heard the familiar clacking of heels march down the corridor and the guard watching their cages stood to attention. The two girls glanced at each other, then gulped. Then the dreaded face came into view with a devilish smile on her bright red lips.
"Well isn't this wonderful, three little MI9 agents about to be blown up. Oh and about three quarters of the MI9 personal in MY KORPS base too!" She cackled throwing her head back. "You see my good little captive Doctor James has developed me a bomb by using some chemicals and a nice big electrical charge, so you don't have to worry for long as you'll all be dead in, well I say about three minutes and 47 seconds." She said consulting a her watch casually.
"A) the bomb will kill you to and B) Do you have no mercy!" Zoe screamed pointing an accusing finger at the devil.
"No, not really. And I will long gone by then. So have fun blowing up!" She replied way to happily while popping the 'p' on up. Sick, twisted rancid woman Sky thought. The Crimeminster turned on her heels and left clicking her fingers at the guards to follow her. They all scurried after her.
Fortunately they didn't see Ben, Keri and Aneisha hiding behind the corner wearing mortified looks at what was being said. As soon as he was sure they'd left Ben rushed around the corner, Keri and Aneisha hot on his heels. So much so that they crashed into his back as he abruptly stopped. A terrified expression on his face. Then the two girls got sight of Dan and also froze.
Sky glanced up and screamed as she got sight of them and instantly got to her knees shaking the bars of the cage. Zoe, however stayed frozen her eyes fixed on Dan as she stroked his hair, trying to stop him from falling back into unconsciousness. It wasn't until her cage door clicked open that she noticed her rescuers.
"Aniesha!" She yelled propelling herself out of the cage and into the other girls waiting arms. "Oh my god Neish I've never been so happy to see you." Zoe whispered choking on her sobs. They were quickly broken apart when Sky tackled Ben into a bear hug once he'd finished picking her cage, but Ben pushed her off and started to pick Dan's cages lock. Zoe didn't think Dan knew what was going on as he was staring at Ben with an confused expression.
"Tom, we need an ambulance." Aniesha whispered into her headset, "Badly."
"I know Neish your wearing head cams, but you guys need to get out of there NOW! That bomb could explode at any second!" Tom replied and she could picture him in the coms van practically biting of his thumb as he watched the monitors.
A moan of protest escaped Dan's lips as Ben dragged him as gently as he could from the cage. Ever so carefully Ben lifted Dan into his arms bridal style at the slight movement of his injured arm Dan moaned and gripped onto Ben's jacket with his good arm. A few tears slipped threw his scrunched up eyes as Ben stood up.
Once he was stood and his broken brother was securely in his arms he nodded grimly to the others.
They all charged down the corridor Ben, Aneisha and Keri had come up. Right, left, upstairs, right, left, Tom yelling at them to hurry up, Sky yelling back some colourful adjectives! At last they reached the lab they went through before the corridor to the last door. At this point Ben was flagging a bit with Dan still cradled in his arms in complete oblivion from everything that was going on around him.
Ben watched with horror as the others ran through the open door to the next corridor while a metal shutter started being lowered rapidly in front of him.
Sky glanced over her shoulder just as the metal door started to roll down from the celling. An ear piercing scream came from her lips as she realised both Dan and Ben were on the other side. The others turned to face her at the scream and Aneisha's eyes widened when she saw that the door in front of them was also closing, she spotted the metal table from earlier and shoved it in the door leaving them enough space to escape.
Ben was only a meter away from the door when he felt his right leg come into contract with something. He felt his hold on Dan loosen as he fell and the momentum of his running caused him to skid across the floor. He didn't realise, but his leg was in the way of the door as it came down onto his leg. There was this awful crunching sound as the metal door pressed down on Ben's leg causing him to scream as he felt his bones being crushed.
In his desperation to get free he managed to yank his leg out of the door letting it slam down effectively locking him and Dan inside of a building destined to blow up.
"Ben!" Sky shrieked from the other side of the door, he looked up to see her trying to peek through a tiny window in the door.
"Run!" He yelled back while he clutched his leg. He saw someone trying to drag her back away from the door and let out a sigh of relief knowing she would now be safe. Next to him Dan was strewn out across the floor on his side, barely conscious he was staring at the window Sky had been at.
"S-sky?" He whimpered looking like he was trying to sit up when he found that it was not possible he turned his desperate gaze to Ben. Ben looked back at him with the same desperation before looking frantically around the lab to look for any cover before the bomb which was destined to go in a matter on seconds did. Somehow he managed to drag himself and Dan underneath a metal lab bench.
Securely, but gently he wrapped his arms around Dan who was lying on his chest. He placed a kiss to his brothers forehead and scrunched his eyes shut in anticipation.
"Go to sleep now Dan." He whispered to his brother. Dan's eyes slid closed as there was a massive bang and both boys were sent tumbling into the darkness of unconsciousness.
