I would like to apologise profusely for taking so incredibly long to update this little series. I hope there are still a few of you following this.
I'm not entirely sure where this went but I think it goes okay haha. I'll leave that for you to decide. I feel like you might like the ending though ;)
Snow Fall
The warm weather came and went and soon enough the snow was starting to fall. Felicity sat on her window sill cradling a steaming cup of coffee and her favourite book lay nestled in her lap. The weather was preventing many people from leaving their houses and Felicity hoped that this meant the same for anyone on the wrong side of the law.
"I can feel you staring you know," Felicity eventually said, looking over her shoulder to see Oliver leaning against the wall. He grinned when they made eye contact and pushed himself in her direction.
"I can't help it," he said, wrapping his arms around her shoulders and resting his chin atop her head. Felicity sighed and leaned back into his chest, savouring the warmth he emitted.
"We should do something fun," Felicity suggests, tilting her head up to look at him.
"Like what?"
"I don't know," Felicity said with a shrug. Looking back out the window again, her face lit up. "Put your jacket on."
"Why?" Oliver asked, the slowness of the word making Felicity roll her eyes.
"We're going outside. And don't argue," Felicity said, seeing Oliver open his mouth. "You know you won't win."
"Alright then," Oliver said, pulling away from Felicity. Felicity leant up to press a kiss to his cheek before dashing to her room. Oliver couldn't contain the grin that spread across his face even if he tried. Felicity's voice carried out to where he was, singing some song about building a snowman.
"Let's go." Felicity said, placing her keys in her pocket and grabbing Oliver's hand. They made their way out the door and stopped on the front porch. The ground was covered in a blanket of white and snowflakes were still continuing to fall.
Wasting no time, they began building a snowman.
"What are we going to name him?" Oliver asked as he placed more snow onto the body. Felicity tilted her head as she looked at the face she was trying to shape.
"We have to go with Olaf obviously,"
"Olaf?"
"The snowman from Frozen?" Felicity offered, shaking her head as Oliver showed no signs of recognising the name. "We are watching Frozen later on. I thought we were done with catching you up and teaching you that you need to keep up with pop culture."
"I have better things to do," Oliver said with a laugh. Felicity through snow at him.
"You're not helping,"
"So who's better? Olaf or Frosty?" Oliver asked.
"Both are great in their own way," Felicity said. Oliver raised his eyebrow and Felicity sighed. "I love them both. You can't make me choose." Oliver released a dramatic sigh and mumbled something underneath his breath but unfortunately Felicity heard it. She narrowed her eyes at Oliver before standing up. Oliver watched her every movement with caution.
"I'm sorry I asked you to choose between two snowman?" Oliver offered.
"That won't cut it," Felicity said and with a speed Oliver didn't know she possessed, Felicity grabbed a handful of snow and hurled it at Oliver's face. Felicity hid her grin behind her hands as the snow slid off Oliver's cheek.
"You're on Smoak," Oliver said as he jumped up. Felicity ducked behind a tree.
"At least it's better than mud," she called out.
"Debatable," Oliver said, turning over the handful of snow he had. Felicity peeked around the tree and her face froze when she saw what Oliver was armed with.
"Oliver," she warned. "Come on now."
"You started this," Oliver said, stepping closer. Felicity held her hands out in front of her, stepping back slightly.
"You're not usually this playful so I was counting on being able to get away with it,"
"You bring it out in me," Oliver simply said and Felicity blushed.
"Don't try and be all romantic right now to try and distract me. It's not going to work."
"I don't need to distract you," Oliver said, advancing closer.
"Alright then," Felicity said as she squared her shoulders. "Game on."
For the next half an hour, both were relentless in their snowball assault. There was much laughter and screaming but Felicity didn't care. The tips of their noses and ears were bright red as well as their cheeks. Felicity was sure she had bruises from her multiple falls but it was all worth it to see Oliver having fun.
"You ready to go inside yet?" Oliver questioned as he stepped forward to wrap his arms around Felicity. Felicity leant back in his embrace as she finished brushing the snow from her jacket.
"Not quite yet," Felicity answered as she spun around in his embrace. Her arms came up to circle his neck and for a moment the two just looked at each other. Felicity hadn't realised her fingers had started absentmindedly playing with the hair at the nape of Oliver's neck as she stood on the tips of her toes to rest her forehead against his. "You can totally be romantic now if you would like," Felicity whispered to him and Oliver couldn't hold back the laugh that escaped his lips.
"I didn't realise I had to turn it on and off at your demand," Oliver teased, his arms tightening around her waist. Felicity couldn't leave even if she wanted to.
"That's how this works," Felicity said with a smile as she leant back.
"Is that so?"
"Yes because I am the Queen," Felicity stated before her eyes went wide. "Not to say that I'm actually the Queen of England or related to her. The only way I'll ever become a Queen is if you decided to marry me. And I'm not saying that you are going to propose. I'm not intending to put that pressure on you because we're not ready yet and-"
Oliver took pity on Felicity, watching as her facial expression turned from humiliation to mortified. He quickly decided to put her out of her misery by placing his lips upon hers. It took Felicity a moment to react to the kiss but when she did, she pulled herself even closer to him. Oliver adjusted his hold around her waist and stood up straighter, her toes now just barely touching the ground. Both were smiling into the kiss as they pulled away, their breaths mingling together. Felicity squrimed a bit in his arms, her ramblings not forgotten.
"Time to get warmed up?" she asked and Oliver smiled gently at her, letting her take this moment feel some sort of control. He couldn't blame her for feeling awkward about mentioning marriage. Oliver was still holding back some, waiting for the moment when the shoe would drop. They were no where near ready for marriage but something within him told him that there would come a day when he would be ready for that with Felicity.
"Lead the way," Oliver said, gesturing to the door. Once they were both inside, Felicity was quick to shed her jacket and slip on a sweater of his before entering the kitchen and preparing mugs for hot chocolate. The tense set of her shoulders was visible only to him and a sigh left his lips. He moved into the kitchen, once again coming up behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist. He peppered kisses along her cheek and jawline before moving to her ear. "Stop thinking," was all he said.
"Sorry," Felicity whispered, leaning back and allowing him to support her weight. "I'm sorry. I don't know why I said that. Please don't think I'm pressuring you or trying to send some sort of message…"
"Felicity, what's going on?" Oliver questioned, knowing there was more going on than he could see. He kept Felicity facing away from him though still held tightly against him as Felicity sighed.
"I'm scared," she finally said and Oliver stilled. He wasted no time in turning her around and lifting her up onto the kitchen bench, Felicity's surprised gasp hitting his ears. He stood between her legs and brought a hand up to cup her face, brushing some hair behind her ear.
"Scared of what?"
"This. The future and what that all entails…" Felicity trailed off, looking timidly up at Oliver to gauge his reaction before she started talking again. "I just...when it registered with me what I had said, I panicked because what if you don't want that. What happens if we never get there? What happens if you leave and I lose you?"
"Hey," Oliver said softly, wiping away the tears that had slipped down her cheek. "I'm scared too,"
"You are?" Felicity couldn't help the surprised raise of her eyebrows. Oliver smiled down at her.
"Absolutely. I have exactly the same fears as you Felicity." As Oliver spoke, he could still see some of the doubt in her eyes. He knew exactly how she was feeling and Oliver knew that was all to do with him. It all had to do with him being too afraid to voice how he felt. That's evidently what it came down to. It wasn't that he wasn't ready, Oliver realised. It was all because he was too afraid to voice how he felt less Felicity suddenly not want him anymore. Looking at her now, he knew that wasn't the case. Felicity was afraid that he would leave, that wouldn't ever be ready for furthering their relationship.
"Oliver…"
Oliver leant forward and pressed a kiss to Felicity's forehead before taking a deep breath. It was now or never.
"I love you," he said and he couldn't help but smile as he heard her breath still and her eyes go wide. "I love you so much. The reason why I haven't told you that yet is because I've been afraid that once I let you into my heart all the way, the other shoe will drop and you'll be ripped away from me. If anything, right now has shown me that I can't waste time. I want everything with you Felicity. I want a future with you. One day I want to marry you and start a family and we can't do that if we're both still living in some sort of fear."
"This isn't what I was expecting when I said you could turn your romantic side back on," Felicity said as her hand came up to cover his still resting on her cheek. Oliver huffed out a light, feeling significantly lighter as he bent down to kiss her.
"I'm all in Felicity," Oliver said as they parted and the grin Felicity gave him told Oliver that this was worth it. There was no holding back now. Both of their hearts were completely invested in this.
"For the record," Felicity started, sliding off the bench to snuggle into his embrace. "I love you too."
Soooo...does that meet your satisfaction?
