Chapter Eleven
Layla and Klaus were walking into Marcel's home. Well, it was the Originals' home until Marcel took it. Layla could feel the tension in the room the second they walked in. None of Marcel's inner circle trusted him, but yet they all feared him. She swallowed against the threat of overwhelming emotions. She didn't want to pass out here in the enemy's territory. Taking a few deep breaths she managed to calm herself down some. Her eyes met Klaus's as he gently held her hand.
"Klaus I was being to wonder if you were going to show up?" Marcel smiled warmly at them as he walked up to them." I still can't believe you married him." He joked as he noticed her slightly paler complexion." You sick or something?"
"No, I'm fine just not use to the hot weather so it's hard for me to sleep at night." She lied softly as she followed the two men. Klaus gave her smirk.
"Yeah, I don't mind the change in weather not that I feel it anymore." Marcel stated as they walked into a living room." Why don't you have a seat while me and your husband talk." He motioned to the sofa as Layla looked up to Klaus.
"I have no secrets from my wife so let's talk here." Klaus sat down as he looked over at Layla who stood dumbfounded where he left her.
"Not the same old Klaus that's for sure." Marcel said as he eyed Klaus suspiciously before he sat in a chair next to the sofa.
"He knows in order for his life to be happy and stress free he has to keep me happy." Layla smiled as she cautiously took a seat next to Klaus. He was up to something she felt it in her bones. What is going on in that beautiful head of your husband of mine? She wondered to herself as their eyes met. He placed his hand on her knee and gave it a gentle squeeze.
"Smart man." Marcel said as he looked from Layla back to Klaus as he proceeded with caution.
"I'm tired of having those close to me stab me in the back." Klaus stated honestly as he looked pointedly at Marcel.
"Or you stab them." Marcel countered as he thought about Rebekah.
"Boys you have business to discuss." She stated firmly.
"By all means Marcel you have the floor." Klaus said with a smirk.
Layla listened intently as Marcel talked about letting go of the past and reconnecting with Klaus. He partly lied about that. He talk about the witches and how they were causing a problem with not being able to use their magic. That was the truth. Whenever Klaus brought up Davina she got mixed feelings from Marcel, but he truly believed Klaus could not get to her. Something told her that it wasn't Klaus he had to worry about. Marcel also said he was thinking of letting the witches start to practice magic. It was a lie.
"Now that business is out of the way I would like to extend an olive branch to both of you." Marcel started, but Layla could hear the lie. Both her and Klaus waited for Marcel to continue." I am throwing a party tonight to celebrate my new day walkers and I would like to extend an invitation to both of you." it was the truth she could hear it.
"Of course we will be there." Klaus said with ease.
"Great, great. I can not wait to see you guys there." Marcel looked over at Layla as he flashed a smile. She could hear a lie dancing around his words, but he hadn't flat out lied and it was bugging her.
"Marcel it's been great catching up, but I'd like to get my wife home she still needs her rest." He stood grabbing her hand pulling her to her feet.
"Of course." He said as stood up too" I forget how humans are." he smiled charmingly at Layla.
As they walked out of Marcel's home Klaus wrapped an arm around her holding her tight. They didn't speak a word for a long time. She knew Klaus wanted to wait until they were a safe distance away. That meant that Klaus had not told Marcel about her gift.
"Tell me sweetheart how much of that was truth?" He asked once they were a good distance away.
"It was confusing." she admit softly as she scrunched up her nose.
"I take it that has never happened before." He said thoughtfully.
"Usually I hear a lie before it comes out, but with Marcel I got partial lies." She confirmed." The party is really what he says, but the whole wanting to let bygones be bygones is not entirely true." she looked up at Klaus" I can't wrap my head around it, but he's hiding something." her voice became serious" Whatever it is it's big." a rush of panic hit her she couldn't tell if it was hers or Klaus's." This has never happened to me before. I can always hear a lie." She swallowed harshly as she
"Don't worry I'll find out." He swore to her as their eyes met and locked.
"We." She corrected calmly as Klaus abruptly stopped walking and stood directly in front of her and held her face with his hands.
"You are not going to be anywhere near Marcel unless I am with you understood." He was not asking her premission he was telling her.
"I wouldn't and you know that, but Klaus if he is seriously plotting against you can you really kill him and feeling nothing?" she questioned as she saw the inner conflict in his eyes and felt the conflicting emotions rolling through him.
"You of all people are asking me about my feelings "He chuckled softly as he leaned closer to her and brushed his lips against hers." Don't worry about my sorrow should I have to end Marcel's life. I assure you I will be fine." he kissed her firmly" I always am." he put his arm around her shoulders as he urged her forward in their walk.
"That's what worrys me." She said softly as she chewed her lip with worry.
