Veronica Mars: Wait, Don't Go

Chapter 11 - As Days Go By

Author's Note: Once again, I do apologize for moments in the story that may seem OOC, or AU, or has you think "that wouldn't ever happen" or "he/she would never do that"; I am still refreshing my VM memory since I have not really watched the show or movie since 2014.

The next day, around 7 a.m., Veronica was still asleep as she laid unclothed in the bed, her naked body being only half covered by the blanket.

As for Logan, who was already dressed for the day, he finished writing his note for Veronica, and left it near the bed for her to read whenever she woke up.

Then, he pulled out his phone, taking another photo of her, and left the hotel, going outside to walk over to the nearest cafe.

Once he found one, the Navy Lieutenant was about to head inside when he found himself looking at a nearby family, with their youngest one playing with a small puppy.

I wonder if I should get Veronica one of those, thought Logan, as he entered the cafe. It'll probably be a better companion than Dick if I ever... leave again...

Inside the cafe, Logan ordered a small breakfast meal for two, also making it to go, and as he sat down at a table, waiting for the order to be done, Logan continued to think about his deployment and leaving Veronica for 180 days.

"Something troubling you, young man?"

Logan replied, "No, I just... wait, don't I know you?"

Sitting at a table across from him was an elderly woman that looked awfully familiar. "Eh, some people say that to me... you sure you're all right?"

"Yeah, it's fine," said Logan. "Just thinking about..."

"Leaving the one you love for almost an entire year?"

Who IS she?

Noticing Logan's confusion, the elderly woman replied, "My husband used to be in the Navy, as well... he's retired, but sometimes we still remember how tough things were sometimes whenever we were apart from each other."

Logan simply nodded his head, and said, "Well, this is kind of a first for the two of us... and I ship off in almost two weeks."

The elderly woman stood up, and gave him a warm smile. "Well, then, I wish the both of you good luck in this emotional journey."

"I appreciate it," replied Logan, nodding his head, and as the elderly woman left the cafe, he said, "I think we're gonna need it..."

Once Logan returned to the hotel, and entered the suite, he found Veronica sitting on the couch, wearing his undershirt from last night.

"Well, good morning, sleepy head," said Logan. "How are we feeling today?"

Veronica sighed, and said, "I still feel tired... and heavy... plus the fact that my stomach feels strange again."

Logan sat down next to her, and offered her a cup of orange juice that he had gotten from the cafe. "Here, maybe this will help."

"Oh, thank you," replied Veronica. "You're a lifesaver."

As they began to eat the food he had purchased from the cafe, Logan continued their conversation. "Which reminds me... since I'm going to be gone, I need someone to take care of my convertible."

"What, seriously?" said Veronica. "Logan, come on, it would take me probably 3 years to afford a car like that, and-"

"And I am going to be stuck on a giant tin can in the Persian Gulf for about six months or so. What good is it gonna do if my car just stays un-driven during that whole time?"

With a chuckle, he added, "Besides, I know you love her, too."

Veronica rolled her eyes, and said, "I'd probably love a pony more than a car."

Remembering the puppy that he had seen earlier today, Logan replied, "Well, just keep on dreaming, I guess... how's your stomach now?"

"A little better," answered Veronica. "I guess I was just-"

"Hungry, yeah, I figured," chuckled Logan. "If I didn't know any better, I would say that you're-"

Veronica immediately shook her head. "No, don't even say it... I can handle you leaving to perform your Navy duty, but I'm not going to be one of those wives who has a kid or something when their husband returns."

Logan smirked, and raised an eyebrow. "So we're at husband now? What happened to saying loved one or just boyfriend?"

The young woman blushed, saying, "You know what I meant, Logan... can we just drop the subject of having a kid until we have to absolutely talk about it."

"Whatever makes you happy," replied Logan, finishing his meal. "I just hope you don't get fat from all of this food you've been eating since we've came here."

"Oh, ha-ha-ha," said Veronica, in a dry tone. "I can promise you right now that there is absolutely nothing inside me that will eventually become a baby."

As Logan threw away the trash, he said, "All right, Veronica, I get it... no kids... but you do have to drive my car around when I'm gone. Fair enough?"

Two Hours Later

After the flight attendant had taken their order, Logan looked over at Veronica, who was now staring out the window, looking at the clouds in the sky.

(Inner Monologue) So, now, we were leaving New York, heading back to Neptune, where we would continue to spend the remaining twelve or thirteen days left until Logan was gone... out to the ocean... leaving me with-

"You okay?"

She blinked her eyes a few times, as if waking up from a trance, and sighed. "Yeah, I just... hate that we have to spend almost half of this day stuck in a flying piece of machinery."

Logan chuckled, and replied, "Aw, come on, it's not so bad... we're together, aren't we?"

"True, but there's not exactly much that we can do up here besides eat and talk and watch television."

"Well, there you have it," said Logan. "What else more do you need?"

Veronica chuckled, and said, "I wish I knew..."
