This is up way later than I intended! I'm so sorry!
First things first before we begin, life sucks and I'm getting busy. I have some free time coming up, but not that much. Any time I have goes away like that. I hate it. But, ya know, life.
Next, I know I should have finished Downed by now! But like I said, I don't have a hell of a lot of time to myself anymore. I'm torn between working on my class work or doing this. Gotta find a way to do both, but then as I'm doing one the thought of doing the other takes over and I just do neither, reducing productivity to a standstill. So for now, until I can get my ass into gear and do my shit, things are going to slow down a bit.
Well, I'm done with that. Without further delay, here's Amnesia Chapter 11!
Enjoy.
Weiss' eyes fluttered as she sat up in her bed. She groaned as she looked around the room, noting that she was the only one awake. The sun shone dimly through the window. She sighed, throwing the covers off of her and stood up.
Weiss stretched out and looked around, watching each of her teammates sleep. Blake was on her side in her new elevated bed, facing the inside of the bunk beds. Yang was on her back, snoring as she always did. Ruby was on her belly facing the inside of the beds in her new bed, lightly snoring. Weiss cracked a slight smile at the sight. It wasn't everyday that the heiress woke up before her teammates. She enjoyed the first run in the showers, but despised the silence in the room, save for Yang's snoring.
Weiss began to collect her toiletries and make her move for the shower. She checked the time and realized that she still had a little over two hours before class started. It would take the team one hour, maybe an hour and a half, to get ready, and less than twenty minutes for breakfast. It was a good system that Ruby had devised.
Weiss walked into the bathroom and closed the door. She turned the water on and began to remove her nightgown. All the while, her thoughts keeping on her leadership possibilities.
"What am I to do? Ruby has been our leader for so long, and now they want me to lead while we try and get her memories back?" She walked into the shower, relishing in the warmth of the water. "What if I'm not good enough? What happens if I can't live up to Ruby? She's been our leader for so long... Can I do it?"
She shook the negativity out of her mind as she ran her head underneath the shower, "Of course you can!" She said to herself, "You trained and studied for so long in this. You can do it!"
After another minute, she finished washing up and turned the water off. She stepped out and began to dry off. Her thoughts drifting to her team now;
"What if they don't like my leadership? I may be good in my eyes but in theirs I may be a horrible leader..." Once again, she shook the thoughts from her mind, "That's preposterous! If they don't like what I'm doing then they'll tell me, right? They'll let me know if I'm doing something wrong."
She finally finished drying off completely and put on her school uniform. As she walked out of the bathroom, she spotted Blake, sitting on the windowsill, reading a book. "Hey," The black haired girl called, not looking up from the text.
"Good morning." Weiss shot back, "How did you sleep?"
"Fine. Shower open?"
"Unless Nora accidentally broke all of the pipes again I don't think the sisters of destruction here will be taking it soon." Weiss chuckled, "But I will take them up while you're in there, just so you know."
Blake nodded, not saying a word, and walked into the bathroom, uniform in hand. It seemed odd to Weiss; Blake seemed to have been warming up recently, and to act like the way she was before... All of this... gave the heiress a sense of happiness. It made it feel as though there was nothing wrong.
Almost as if they were back to normal.
She broke away from her thoughts, looking to the book that Blake was once reading. She noticed an engraving on it... A rose engraving...
Inspecting the tome more, Weiss realized that Blake had gone through Ruby's journal. She set the book down and...
"Wait a minute... Blake!" She finally realized what Blake had done. If she was in the right mind she'd barge right into the bathroom and curse Blake out. But she stopped herself, letting cooler heads prevail, and began to wake Yang up. If it was Ruby that overheard everything first, she might not be... No, she won't be very happy.
Yang's eyes clenched shut before opening, then fluttered open. "Uhg... Please don't tell me..."
"Sorry," Weiss smiled, not nearly sorry, "But we actually have class today."
Yang sighed, clearly annoyed, but got up anyway. "So," She began, stretching out, "How's the morning?"
"So far, interesting." Weiss said slyly. Yang shot a curious look to the white haired heiress, who held up Ruby's journal, "I caught Blake reading through Ruby's journal."
Yang's eyes widened at the comment, lost for words. Why would Blake do that? She knows more than anyone about personal space and privacy and what not. Why would she do that?
"Do we tell-?"
"NO!" Yang almost yelled, snatching the book away. She covered her mouth and looked back to Ruby, making sure the younger didn't wake up. After being certain that Ruby still slumbered, Yang looked back to Weiss, "No, we don't tell Ruby. We have to confront Blake, though while Ruby is out of earshot."
"Do we want her to take her shower before you, then?" Weiss asked.
Yang nodded while holding up a single index finger. Weiss nodded as Yang shook her sister, "Ruby..." She called, "We need you to get up." Ruby muttered something incoherent, probably something along the lines of 'Not right now,' or 'Go away.'. "Come one, sis! You need to take the shower next! I'm not waiting on you forever!"
"I'll take the shower last, then." The sleeping girl muttered, "A few more minutes." She tried to roll over, but Yang wasn't having any of it.
She pulled Ruby up to a sitting position and shook her violently, "Time. To. Get. Up."
"Ok, Ok! Fine! I'm up!" Ruby called, pleading with Yang to stop. The latter finally did, and patted Ruby on the head.
"Good! Blake's almost done." Yang said, standing up from her seat. Weiss held back her laughter from the exchange before her eyes. Her and her own sister, Winter, couldn't have a relationship like these two had. But damned if they tried.
Behind closed doors, what the Schnee sisters did was their business, but when out in the rest of the world, they had to hold themselves to a standard no child should ever hold themselves too:
Proper manners.
Sure, basic manners was one thing all kids should know. Speak when spoken too, don't interrupt (even though no one ever follows that rule, ever), be polite to everyone, don't eat like a madman... er, madwomen, in the Schnee girls' case. But there was so much more to their manners training. It was far more strict.
The bathroom door opened, breaking Weiss from her thoughts. Blake walked out, dressed in her school uniform, drying off her cat ears. "Alright," She called, "Who's up?"
Yang pointed to Ruby, who raised a lone hand tiredly. Ruby was normally a morning personal until recently. Maybe it was an entire sleeping habit change. Maybe she was growing some more.
Who knew?
Ruby grabbed her uniform and toiletries and walked into the bathroom, closing the door. Blake walked over to the desk and picked up her bow before noticing the glares she was receiving by Weiss and Yang. "What?" She asked, genuinely concerned.
Yang, once again, held up a finger and waited for the shower to turn on. Once she heard the water running, she began. "Why were you going through Ruby's journal, Blake?!"
Blake did a double take and stepped back, "What?! How could you accuse me of-?"
"I saw you, Blake." Weiss said, standing up, "You were going through her private journal. Why? You of all people understand the importance of privacy!"
"Ok! I get it!" Blake interrupted, "Hear me out first, alright?" Weiss and Yang nodded, eager to hear her reasoning, "I figured that if I can learn a little something about her, then maybe it can help me better understand who I'm dealing with."
"So you went through her stuff?!" Yang exploded, "Blake!"
"I'm sorry! I thought this was the best way to go! If it's any consolation I didn't look into anything prior to when Beacon started, alright? I skimmed through, looked at the dates, and began reading where it was appropriate."
"That's not the point, Blake!" Yang said, still livid, "Ruby likes to keep a lot of personal information in there! Stuff she'd rather not other people see, get it? Hell, she almost took my head off when we were younger for going through that book! One of our friends at Signal was in the ICU for almost a month because he was foolish enough to read it! It's hers, Blake. If you wanted to go through it, you should have asked."
"And what if she said no?!"
"What if who said no?" A voice called. The team looked back to see Ruby standing there, towel around her neck, dressed in her school uniform. "What's going on? Why is it so warm in here?"
The others looked away, mildly flustered. They couldn't tell her what they had just been talking about, but lying wasn't a very good idea, either. "We're talking about Jaune and Pyrrha!" Yang burst out, "We're trying to help Jaune figure out a way to ask her out! Yeah."
"Oh... Then where is he?" Ruby asked.
"Oh... Uh... Oh! No, we're trying to figure it out with her here. She'll follow him anywhere, you know?" Yang put on the best damn show she could, hoping her sister would buy it.
Luckily, Ruby was either too tired to, or flat out didn't care, and shook her head. "Shower's yours, Ya-" Ruby never finished her sentence before a Blonde blur whooshed past her. With the door slamming next to her, Ruby lightly laughed and went to the desk. Weiss and Blake still stood in stunned silence, confused as to what just happened. Ruby felt their gaze upon her, and faced the two of them, "What? Is there something wrong? Did Yang shave a smiley face into my head?"
The two looked to each other, Weiss broke the silence first, "Uh, no. No, it's nothing, Ruby..." She thought for a moment, "Wait, why is Yang shaving a smiley face into your head the first thing...?"
"Oh!" Ruby began to laugh, "We did that to our dad one year as a prank and she promised to do that to me one day. She hasn't yet, but I'm still very cautious."
Blake and Weiss sighed, both shaking their heads. The antics of the sisters will be legendary. Past and future.
After a few minutes of tense silence between Weiss and Blake, Yang finally exited the shower and announced that it was time for breakfast. The others agreed and they were off. They were joined by Team JNPR the moment they left their dorm room. After they all made their greetings they began to walk towards the cafeteria.
"So," Pyrrha started, "Don't you four think it's pretty early in the morning to be in a heated argument?"
Blake, Weiss and Yang all went wide-eyed, away from Ruby's view, and realized their mistake. Despite Ruby not being able to hear it over the shower, they were still pretty loud. "Nah," Yang said, passing it off as nothing, "It's not too early for anything here!"
"See!" Nora yelled to Ren, "I told you it's not too late for anything!" Ren crossed his arms and looked away in a huff, not willing to press the fight. The others laughed at the display. As for Blake, Weiss and Yang, they took a huge sigh of relief, noting how close they've been to having their cover blown twice now.
Breakfast came and went and class loomed over both teams' heads. They made their way to their first class; Grimm studies with Professor Port. The teams hadn't told Ruby too much about his... lessons, for lack of a better word, so this class would be very interesting to say the least.
They walked into class, noticing the scarcity in students as well as an absence in Port himself. "Huh," Pyrrha said, "I guess we're earlier than we thought."
"Yeah." Jaune agreed, "I guess so."
With his comment the teams went to take their seats. RWBY staying more to the left side of the class, close to the door. Ruby sat next to Blake, who took the left end of the seats, Yang was to Ruby's right and Weiss was next to Yang at the end closest to the aisle.
Team JNPR took their seats a row above RWBY, but in the middle section, rather than the far end. They normally would sit in closer proximity, but Port put up a seating arrangement that put teams together.
Weiss took a look at her scroll and sighed. They were less than ten minutes early. It's one thing to be punctual, it's another to be early. She sat back in her seat and waited for the time to go by. She listened to some of the other students ramble, mainly JNPR. There weren't many students in the classroom, so there wasn't much to listen in on. Except a few people had begun whispering when they saw all of RWBY finally present in class. Then their attention turned to Ruby herself.
The younger girl was currently talking to Yang whilst Blake read one of her books. Weiss was surprised that Yang wasn't currently warning her sister about Ports... teaching methods... But the heiress figured that Ruby would figure it out the hard way.
Not a moment after this thought crossed Weiss' mind did Port walk into class. With his arrival came many other students. The class soon filled and the bell rang, causing many to fumble and rush to their seats.
After making sure everyone was in their seats, Port cleared his throat and began, "Ah, welcome back you young minds. Now, I understand that I didn't finish my lecture last time. Alas, I will not be able to finish it, as we must move on." A sigh of relief came from the class, "As I was saying, today's lecture will be about the Nevermore. Dangerous creatures, Grimm of the sky. Coming in all sizes. Let me tell you a tale..."
That was Yang's cue. She sighed and sat back in her chair, knowing full well that this was going to be a long class. She looked over to Ruby, who had a notebook ready. 'Maybe I should tell her... Nah. She'll find out in a moment.' Looking over to Blake, Yang saw that the faunus was still reading. Shifting to Weiss, Yang noticed that the heiress had began to watch the clock already. Yang chuckled.
A few minutes passed and Port got into his tale. A mountain town with Nevermore all around. Blah blah. Same crap, different day. After a while, Yang noticed that Ruby was... writing? The brawler nudged Weiss and pointed to Ruby. Weiss and Yang shared a glance, to which Yang decided to inquire further.
"Uh, Ruby?" She whispered. She got a small hum from the younger girl, "Are you... Actually taking notes on this?"
"Wha-? Oh no. No no no no no. No. And no. Did I mention no?" Blake chuckled, but Ruby continued, "I was about to, then I realized that he was probably going to talk about himself all day. So I'm just drawing instead."
"Oh? What are you drawing?"
"You know? Same things as always." Ruby moved over, revealing her work. It was mainly weapon designs, symbols and emblems. Yang nodded and sat back.
Class went on as everyone tried not to doze off and sleep. When the bell rang Weiss let out a sigh of relief. "And remember class!" Port exclaimed, "We may or may not be having a pop quiz next time we meet! Take the warning. Dismissed!" With that, everyone left.
"So," Pyrrha started, catching up to RWBY, "How was your first day back, Ruby?"
"I think I'm going to reserve my judgment until I get a real class." She chuckled, "In all honesty though, uneventful. Pop quiz, though. That'll be a thing."
"Yeah, that's smart." Jaune said, following the others. "So, what now?"
"Well for us," Weiss began, "We have one more class for today. But that's not for another hour or so. So we're just going to head back to the dorm."
Jaune nodded, "We've got a class to go to right now. Sorry we won't be joining you." Weiss waved him off and team JNPR left. Team RWBY went to their dorm room to kill the next hour before their last class, an elective class with Professor Peach.
When they got to the dorm, Blake commented that she would go to the library. Weiss decided to join her, leaving the sisters alone. The heiress assured she would be back, she just wanted to see something about dust use in alchemy (Something that peaked her interest in Peach's class).
Yang and Ruby entered the dorm as their partners departed and sat at their respective bunks. Ruby looked up at the desk in between the beds and noticed something... Odd. "Hm."
"What's up, sis?"
"I could have sworn that I put my journal down closer to my bed yesterday." Yang's heart jumped a bit, "I could be mistaken, though." She picked up the book and examined the front cover. She remembered engraving the rose into the front and spine, and how much of a pain it was. Still, it was worth it.
"So," Yang started, changing the subject, "How are you feeling?"
"Bored."
The older chuckled, "Yeah, Port's class has a negative effect on people every now and again. Just gotta find a way to power through it." She jumped down, "Anything you want to talk about? Anymore bad dreams? Any memories?"
Ruby thought for a moment before answering, "There have been a few memories here and there. Mostly it's a feeling of déjà vu still. The biggest memory was... the train one... Other than that, nothing too big."
Yang made a face, but nodded. She was a tad upset that after all of this time not a single memory had come up. They didn't really make an attempt, mind you, but they weren't sure how to bring back memories. They all would have hoped that things would work out on their own, but clearly that wasn't going to work.
Blake had been taking a look into using hypnotism and using alchemy for it. Both had huge effects in the past with other people, why not at least try it? Professor Goodwitch said she would help with the hypnotism; Yang didn't even know that Goodwitch could hypnotize! Apparently it was a mage secret one could learn. A relatively easy spell, too.
According to Weiss there was also some dust applications for amnesia too. She wanted to talk to her father about it, but the old man was out at a huge conference, so he was unreachable until Wednesday.
Either way, anything they could do to help would be for better. Yang was trying her best, but the only thing she could do was help Ruby with face to face. She didn't think that would help with much, but she had to try, right?
Try as she might, at this point it looked pointless.
Before Yang could say another word, Weiss walked in, a single book in tow. "Hey, Weiss! Light reading tonight, eh?"
"If only." The heiress huffed, "I could barely find this book on dust applications with alchemy, and even then I don't even think it's legit." She sat down, defeated, "I'm just going to talk to Peach later... By the way, we have under forty minutes before class. What do you two wanna do?"
Ruby turned to Yang and smiled. Yang had seen that look on her sister's face before. They've started many prank wars with just that single look. Legendary battles with friends, family, even teachers.
"Ruby..." Yang called slowly, "No."
"Aw." Ruby sighed, dejected. Weiss turned to both of them with a confused expression.
"She wanted to start a prank war." Yang replied to the unasked question, "All while we have no supplies available to us! We'd be slaughtered!"
"We'd make due!" Ruby argued. Yang shook her head, ending the conversation with one gesture. Weiss looked on at the debate, rather confused but chose to drop it.
After a while Blake returned and, like Weiss, only had a small amount of books. The black clad girl was clearly upset at the lack of reading on the subject, but made mention that most of the books had previously been checked out already. She was just too little too late.
The team decided to begin their travel to their next class, an elective writing class with Professor Peach.
It struck everyone as odd, the one who taught alchemy and biology in the school also highly specialized in writing. It was an interesting thought, at least. Peach once said that if her uncle wasn't a hunter that she would be a writer or journalist.
The team walked into class and sat down. They weren't as early as they were for Port's class, which meant less time waiting. Peach saw the team walk in and approached them.
"Ah, hello Team RWBY!" She greeted. The team greeted her back, "I'm just going to jump right to the chase here, Miss Belladonna," she glanced to Blake, "I did some research into elixir's that could help with amnesia... I couldn't find anything specifically, but I could find something that might help with hypnosis." The team looked to the professor eagerly,. Peach continued, "It's a drink that, if made right, relaxes the mind and body and helps the person meditate better. If done right, we could make a less potent version of the drink and hypnotize your leader!"
They all looked at Peach, stunned. Blake broke the silence first, "Wow, could we really make that?"
"Of course!" Peach assured, "It requires material that are honestly just lying around my classroom! I could make it whenever you want!"
"Great!" Weiss declared, "We'll take one whenever you can make it."
Peach nodded as the bell rang. She moved back to the front of the class as the students began to file in. All of Team RWBY was elated to hear this, as this could very well help end this little issue once and for all.
With just a little more effort, Ruby's amnesia will be gone.
Peach's class went by very quickly. The writing assignment she set up was a fairly quick and easy one. This left the team to themselves. Blake and Ruby took a walk around the campus, mainly to talk. Yang and Weiss stayed back at the dorm; Weiss being anxious for the young leader to get back so they could go over the day and prepare for the next day of classes, Yang just wanted the heiress to calm down.
"It's ok, Weiss." Yang assured, "Blake and Ruby need to do this."
"I know." Weiss shot, "I just wish they could do this faster." She tapped her foot, clearly annoyed. Yang chuckled, but gave up. The brawler kept Ruby's journal close by, not trusting anyone for a second with it. Hell, she didn't even trust herself deep down.
Yang felt bad about yelling at Blake earlier and wanted to apologize, but still wanted to press the value of personal space that Blake herself lorded over the team for so long. The entire deal with the journal was just messed up, but could all be put behind them with no issue at all.
They hoped, at least.
Blake and Ruby walked into the dorm, still talking. Blake led the younger inside and closed the door, finishing up their conversation. "Like I said, if you need any of us don't be afraid to ask. We're here for a reason."
"Likewise, Blake." Ruby shot back. Blake smiled and nodded and moved into the dorm. "So, what's on the schedule now?"
"Well you and I need to-"
"Nothing!" Yang interrupted Weiss, stopping her from boring Ruby to death, "We're going to figure something out right now!"
Weiss shot an angry glare at Yang, but gave in. Blake was clearly on board for this, which meant it was pointless to fight it.
"So," Yang called, digging into the closet for a board game, "What do you girls want to play?"
Wow, that journal's a big deal, huh? Don't worry, next chapter it will take center stage!
I realized, after a while at least, that the story has been moving rather... slowly. That ends here. Well, more like next chapter it ends. Ruby's going to take a look into that little book of hers and shits gonna hit the fan. '
So, before I get into anything else, I just want to say that things will slow down only until I get all caught up. After that I'll start writing in full force again!
So, now that that's been explained a bit more, how was this latest chapter? I feel like I slowed the story down too much... Oh well. Mistakes happen. Like I said, though, next chapter it's gonna pick up a bit more. Will we see another dream? Will we find more memories? Only I know! Begins evil laugh, AHAHAHAHA!
...
Oops.
Anyway, I want to put up a retort to a certain MurderMine:
Firstly, you rock! Three reviews back to back to back, nice! I appreciate it. Secondly, the Ruby fight, that was just a bit of practice for me in all honesty. My first really big fight scene that I've written. I just wanted Ruby to be a badass. Sure, I had to have the others put up some sort of fight, but Ruby was going in top speed. So she wasn't really able to take a lot of damage.
Also, I wasn't trying to imply that Ruby was ready to cut Blake in half... It just sorta... happened to work out that way? Meh, I'll leave it at that.
Thirdly, I'm a dude and ten minutes in the shower is WAY too long. I knew someone would point that out too, but I wrote that piece at the perspective of what I know. Not the best move, but I digress.
Raven: Thanks! I'm trying to update as fast as possible. Also, you'll get your wish next chapter!
So, on that note, I'm off to do stuff I guess I have to do. I'll try to get Downed finished up very soon as well as get the next chapter up!
Thanks for reading! Tell me what you think!
Until Next Time.
