Chapter Eleven: I Won't Be Left
I won't mistake you for problems with me
I won't let my moods ruin this you'll see
I won't take everything good and move it away
I won't be left dancing alone with songs from the past
Would you stay home and keep our memories warm with me
Would you give all your love for a run in the past with me
- "I Won't Be Left" Tegan and Sara
"Coming!" Olivia snapped her law book shut with a thud and glanced at the clock on the wall. She still had thirty minutes before she had to leave for the courthouse. She'd been hoping to get more studying done before then. The continuous knocking on her apartment door said otherwise. "Seriously, hold your horses." She threw the door open without checking to see who it was.
"Hello Ms. Pope, do you mind if I join you?" Olivia's mouth popped open as Mellie Stephens, the woman Fitz was refusing to marry, shoved her way into the apartment. She brazenly took a seat on the edge of one of the overstuffed gray chairs in Olivia's living room, "Please have a seat Ms. Pope while I do my best to make an honest woman out of you."
Olivia crossed her arms, "I think I prefer to stand, as you won't be staying long. I have to get to work."
"Ah yes, at the courthouse where you work for the judge you are sleeping with?" Mellie arched an eyebrow as she studied Olivia.
Olivia didn't react to the bait, instead she said slowly, "What can I help you with?"
"You are not going to the benefit with Fitz tomorrow night. I will be there and we will be together."
It was Olivia's turn to arch an eyebrow, "Oh really?"
"Yes, you will respectfully decline and explain to Fitzgerald that you wish to act only as an employee to him for the time being. As soon as you can you will leave his employment and never speak to him again. Am I understood?"
Olivia sent her a sweet as pie smile and said, "Crystal." Walking to the door she held it open and watched as Mellie left her house with a satisfied grin on her face. Olivia shut her door with a small bang before sprinting into the kitchen and grabbing her phone.
'If you have a shift find someone to cover it. 5:30 dress shopping. Abs, find me a store where I can get something white or cream that is stunning. I'm going to a benefit tomorrow night.' Olivia sent the text to Quinn and Abby without a second thought. Glancing at the clock she threw her bags together and headed down to the parking garage.
SCANDAL
Olivia grinned as she rapped on the door to Fitz's office around 11:30 that morning. She'd been dying to tell him all morning that she'd go with him, but they hadn't really crossed paths. He'd been in meetings all morning and she'd been down in the archives the thirty minutes he was actually in the office.
"Come in."
She opened the door and shut it, "Yes."
Fitz looked up from the conference room table in his office that was an organized mess as he deemed it to stare at Olivia blankly, "Yes?" He repeated.
"Yes." She repeated with a smile and an incline of her head.
Fitz stood up, knocking the chair to the ground, "Yes to the benefit tomorrow?" He asked.
Her grin widened, "Yes to the benefit tomorrow."
He spun around in a circle and pumped his fist in the air before crossing the room to pick her up and spin her, "Go to dinner with me tonight?"
Olivia shook her head, "No."
"No?" He repeated with a frown.
"I have to find a dress for tomorrow night. You didn't exactly give me that much time. And I know that's not completely your fault, but that means emergency girl time dress shopping tonight." Olivia explained.
Fitz chuckled, "I understand. Just know you'll look stunning in whatever you wear."
Olivia smiled and stood on her toes to whisper in his ears, "Oh I plan to knock your socks off. And your pants while I'm at it."
She took a step back and grinned at the almost predatory look in his eyes. He took two steps forward and pinned her to the wall, much like he boxed her in after their date, "I cannot wait. You can knock whatever you want off me."
"Deal Judge Grant." She slid under his arms, "Now back to work we both go." She sang tauntingly.
"You fight dirty Pope." Fitz called out as she opened the door and left his office.
SCANDAL
Abby opened the door to Lily Lufrano's shop with a giggling Quinn. They stopped when they saw Olivia standing with a woman staring at a peach colored gown. Olivia looked aggravated. Abby rolled her eyes and wandered over, "Oh no Liv you can't wear that." She interrupted the conversation.
Olivia smiled and sighed, "I've been trying to explain to the woman that I want a cream colored or white dress." She gave the woman a petulant look, "She's not listening to me though."
The woman gave her a lazy smile, "Ma'am I thought you may prefer something on sale."
Quinn, Abby and Olivia all glared at the woman, "You know what Abs, I think I'd like to shop somewhere else."
Ten minutes later they were walking into Reve, a new boutique in Georgetown. "Hopefully the woman who owns this shop won't be such a bitch." Quinn muttered as they opened the door.
"Welcome to Reve." The tiny brunette with a southern accent behind the counter greeted them, "I'm Kathy, let me know if there's anything I can help you with."
"I'm Olivia," Olivia walked to the counter, "and I'm looking for a gown for a charity event. Preferably something in white or cream."
Kathy grinned, "You're lucky, white is in. I have something that should look stunning on you, it just came in yesterday." Kathy led the way to a rack near the back of the store. "I have other white dresses, mostly that are more cream toned, but looking at you I'm partial to this one. You're what, a two or a four?"
Olivia grinned, "A four." She followed Kathy into the dressing rooms. "Abs, Quinn, will you grab anything else you think I'd like. And pick out some shoes please. Nothing that makes me look like a hooker Abigail!" She warned as she shut the door to the dressing room.
Twenty minutes later she was standing in front of the floor-length mirror in a silk dress that was held up by thin diamond straps that criss-crossed in the back. The front dipped slightly to show just the barest hint of cleavage. The shoes were silver and simple. She should be up to Fitz's shoulders in that dress. The four were now discussing hair, make-up and jewelry.
"Curl it with a pin on each side. It's your most classic look." Quinn pulled her hair back to demonstrate for Kathy.
"Do you have teardrop diamond earrings?" Kathy asked, "Or something like that to sparkle."
"No," Olivia shook her head, "pearl drops, but not diamonds."
"I do," Abby piped up "they're yours for the night."
"No necklace." Kathy commented, "What about bracelets? Maybe a diamond bracelet."
"My mom's will be perfect." Olivia murmured. "Fitz is absolutely going to go crazy."
"You will have sex up against that door tomorrow night." Abby grinned wickedly.
"Correction, all over that apartment." Olivia winked.
"Is Fitz your boyfriend?" Kathy asked.
Quinn nudged her arm, "He will be after tomorrow night."
Olivia rolled her eyes, "Okay I've had enough girly time." She glanced at her watch, "I'm supposed to be meeting Harrison and Caroline for drinks." She paused, "He wants me to approve of her." Olivia rolled her eyes. "I'll take the dress and the shoes. And thank you so much Kathy."
SCANDAL
Fitz knocked on Olivia's apartment door at exactly 6:15pm. He grinned as he waited for his socks and pants to be knocked off. When the door opened and Olivia appeared with a black coat draped over her arm and a silver clutch in her hand. He stepped back, "Livie."
"Still got your socks and pants Judge Grant?" She asked as she leaned against the doorframe.
He grinned, "Not for long."
"After the event Judge Grant we'll fix that." She tapped his chest lightly, "And you clean up nicely too."
He took her coat and held it out for her to slip into, "Your dress is beautiful and tonight I can't wait to see it on your bedroom floor."
Olivia turned around, "Me too, especially when you see what's underneath."
Fitz's eyebrows rose, "What's underneath?"
"A very sexy, very sheer bra I think you'll approve of."
"And."
"Nothing else." She whispered in his ear before turning and walking towards the elevator.
SCANDAL
Olivia handed her coat to the check woman. "Fitz," she asked, he turned to look at her, "if I hand you my lipstick would you stick it in your pocket so I could check my bag too?"
Fitz held his hand out, "Of course Livie." He slipped it in his pocket and drew her close as he pocketed the ticket for their coats and Olivia's purse. "Let's go get you a glass of wine."
Standing near the bar, the two stood talking to a congressman from Illinois when she came up. "Well Fitzgerald there you are, I've been looking everywhere for you." And the conversation stopped just as Melanie Stephens approached.
"Why?" Fitz asked bluntly.
"Oh Olivia, I didn't expect to see you here." Mellie gave her a sickly sweet smile.
"I'm sure, especially once you made it clear that I was," she paused, "what was it, not to be here with Fitz and I was also to quit my job."
Fitz's eyes moved between the two women, "When did this conversation occur."
"Yesterday morning. At my apartment. While I was getting ready for work." Olivia took the final sip of her wine. "Fitz would you and Aaron please go get me another glass of wine?" She held her empty glass between the two of them.
Aaron looked between the three, "Of course Liv." He accepted the glass and tugged gently on Fitz's arm, "Fitz I think Olivia wants us to go away now." He grinned at his friend from law school.
"We'll be back in a minute." Fitz warned Mellie.
"Oh come now Fitzgerald, we'll just have some girl talk. Oh but I do think your father is here too." She motioned across the room to a graying man who looked remarkably like Fitz.
Olivia crossed her arms, "This should be good." She paused, "Walk away Fitz. I can handle this." Fitz dropped a kiss on her forehead and walked away with Aaron Schock. Olivia turned back to Mellie, "Alright Mellie, what is it you want from me?"
"I want you to leave Fitz."
"Well that's not happening so is there anything else you'd like?" Olivia asked.
"That's all I want Olivia and you are going to make that happen." Mellie took a sip of her own white wine.
"That's not likely." Olivia replied. "Just for kicks why don't you say it one more time before Big Jerry Grant makes his way over here though. Just for good measure."
Mellie frowned and turned to watch Senator Jerry Grant make his way across the ballroom to the two women.
Now things were going to get interesting.
