Chapter 11:
They had devoted themselves to research for the next two days. Dean more or rather stealing the computer, and leaving Castiel to look through all the books. He'd given Sam a call, telling him everything they had found out before asking him to find what he could on the Pied Piper as well.
Dean was getting very fed up with the internet by the two day mark. It held surprisingly little information on the Piper, and even less on how to kill or pay the thing. He dragged a hand down his face in annoyance and looked over to Castiel. Head bent down in a book, several more at his side, his brow creased in concentration.
"What do you say you and I go out and get a beer?" He asked, looking to his friend who looked up from his books.
"I'm sorry?" Castiel asked, tilting his head to the side.
"A beer. You and me." Dean elaborated. "Take a bit of a break."
"I would, Dean." Castiel started, turning back to his book. "But I don't believe now is the time. Maybe after the case is over." He suggested gently.
"Alright." Dean said, turning back to the computer, feeling a bit disappointed. "It was just a suggestion." He mumbled.
"What?" Castiel asked.
"Nothing." Dean answered quickly.
Castiel looked at him suspiciously, his head tilting to the side again. Which Dean thought just wasn't fair. How was he supposed to think straight when his best friend, and crush he was starting to concede, was constantly around looking adorable.
He sighed as he turned back to continue research, and maybe get his mind off his current sexuality crisis. Since when did he start liking guys to begin with. Sure, in high school he may have experimented, everybody did, but he'd never actually done anything. He could admit to a bit of a man-crush on Dr. Sexy, but that sort of thing was healthy. It's not like he wanted to sleep with the guy. Could be daddy issues. Castiel and his father did share many physical characteristics, hair, height, constant five-o-clock shadow, kinda stand-offish. He certainly hoped that wasn't the reason.
He heard music coming from his pocket before he could delve to much more into his thoughts. He looked at it and, seeing it was Sam, got up and walked out of the door to answer it.
"What do you have for me Sammy?" He asked without preamble. He could really use some good news or a drink, and Castiel shut down the drink idea.
"Not much." Came Sam's hesitant answer. "The Men of Letters didn't seem to put to much stock in fairy tales. There is very little information, and what they do have is old and broken up. Just general knowledge."
"Yeah, the internet is about the same." Dean conceded. "Cas is going through some books, trying to find anything that could be of some help."
He could hear Sam sighing over the line, and could just imagine him running his hands through his hair. How he would love to take a pair of scissors to that mop. He actually had dreams about that, knowing that if he ever followed through, he would never live to tell about it. Smiling to himself, he continued on.
"He did mention that the Pied Piper was a fairy though." Dean added, in a vain attempt at help.
"Men of Letters don't have much on them either." Sam grunted in frustration.
"Great." Dean grunted. "Just what I need, a monster that kills kids that has virtually no information on it anywhere, an ex-girlfriend who thinks I'm in love with a guy, a brother who's trying to awaken me of my own feelings. All the while, I'm confused because I'm starting to think they're right." Dean finished, hearing Sam laugh on the other side of the line. "Oh, will you shut up."
"I'm sorry, it's just, it's cute is all." Sam started.
"I am not cute, Sam." Dean argued, raising his hackles.
"But you think he is." Was Sam's retort. "And I can see why. I mean, the guys just turning human, he's still learning things. His social skills are that of a child, which you've always had a soft spot for kids. Those old dog eyes, that still gives the impression of a puppy when he wants something. I mean, I don't go for that, but those are all traits that scream your type. Well, aside from easy and drunk." He finished before Dean could argue.
"Sam." Dean cut him off.
"Yeah Dean." Sam asked, smile in his voice.
"Bite me." Dean said before hanging up on his brother. He was no help.
Why did he have to name off Castiel's cute qualities like that. It was just making Dean think on them and find more things he liked. Sighing to himself again, he walked back into the room.
"Dean." Castiel said, as Dean walked into the room.
Dean looked up to find Castiel's face alight with energy, a small smile playing at his lips, holding a book in his hands. He obviously had good news.
"You find something Cas?" Dean asked, looking at his friend with a smile as well.
"I think so." Castiel stated, looking back down at the book in his hand. "It's not a way to kill it. But it will stop him."
"Great, what is it?" Dean said, sitting down and signalling for Castiel to keep going.
"A spell." Castiel started. "I told you he was Faye. But the reason he worked with people was because he was an outcast, and a traitor to most of his kind. All we need to do is banish him back to his realm, and the Faye will do the rest."
"So, you found a banishing spell?" Dean asked.
"Yes, it's easy and we should be able to get a hold of the ingredients quickly." Castiel started, before his face was pulled into Dean's in a kiss.
It was a couple of moments before Dean came to reality and realized what he was doing. He pulled his face away and let Castiel's head go, taking a few steps back. He didn't know why he did it. It was just a reaction to finding an answer, and a way of ending this plague that had taken the town. He couldn't help himself.
"Oh." He said, looking at Castiel's confused and surprised face.
This just made things more obvious..
I suck at this kinda stuff, and I'm trying to get better. So sorry for anything. On the other hand, they kissed.
Thank you all for reading. Have a nice day.
