Author's Note: Hi, how are everybody? After nearly a decade, here is a new one-shot, can you believe it? The stories here were from the Marineford Arc and now when I read them - oh, dear, how old and nostalgic they are! So, after being away from the fandom, manga and all things One Piece for many years, I returned back only to read 200+ chapters in record time. Looks like this place is going to liven.

By the way, I love Law! On my return, the first character to write had to be him.

(And how unfair that his seiyuu is the same with Akashi from KnB? Just one word and I was a fan.)

Anyway, hope you enjoy the (short) story!

Fate and D

Law didn't know why he was at Marineford.

To witness a war between people of such caliber it was already nicknamed 'The War of the Best'? To see the legendary Whitebeard in all his glory?

Or watch as Doflamingo acted like a puppet of the World Government? Assess his fighting style - did he get stronger? What was his place among the Shichibukai and the other fighters? Could Law use any of them?

Or he finish him in the chaos of the war?

Was he here to observe how the Shichibukai acted when stuck in between Marines and Pirates? Would the title help his cause enough for him to side with the detestable Marines?

Maybe, he just went to see the execution of a D with his own eyes. A D pirate that caught after a fight with another D pirate.

(If they were the enemies of Gods, why were they fighting amongst each other?)

His reason might be a mixture of all these questions or none. It might be fate. In exchange for a D executed because of a D, the fate wanted a D to save another D.

Because the only thing he was sure in all the chaos was the fact that he was going to save Monkey D. Luffy. Surgeon of Death be damned, he would keep his fellow D alive and away from his enemies.

Law had also lost someone precious and the pain of his half-dead body was nothing compared to the anguished scream of his heart. But he had survived it and his fellow D would too. Law could just make sure his body wouldn't give up on him in the meantime.

Only after parting with his patient in Amazon Lily to the Dark King Rayleigh of all people did Law check out what happened in the world.

The Will of the D had changed the world.

Marines had a new leader and lost one of its strongest players after nearly destroying an island. Pirates were in war amongst each other after the death of a Yonko.

He might as well up his game too.

He remembered how Shichibukai fought in the war - seemingly on the Marine's side but not bothering too much with the pirates.

Law's enemy was a Shichibukai. As much as he planned for Kaido to take out Doflamingo, the title's protection and power would be beneficial for him.

So, as the world changed around him, Law updated his plan and eyed the title.

And, if two years later, his fellow D appeared in the place he least expected, like fate brought him there for the last stage of Law's plan?

Law knew how fate worked with the Will of the D.
