Author's Note: I have reposted this chapter. When I imported it into the document manager something strange happened and I didn't realize it. I should have reread it after importing. Sorry this story has been so slow but I have kinda lost my drive but it's almost done now so I will get to work. I do have another story in the works from an idea that was given to me by a reader. I have two chapters done but I won't be posting until it's all done.
Fight the Good Fight
Felicity resisted the urge to look over her shoulder as she approached the rooftop door. There was no one else around but she couldn't help feeling as though someone was watching her. Using the lock picks Digg had given her, she unlocked the door, headed down the short hallway, and descended the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs Felicity once again had to use the picks to gain access to Isabel's floor.
The door the woman's penthouse was easy to find since it took up the whole floor. After a few steps the only thing standing in her way was Isabel's fancy alarm system. Felicity couldn't help smiling. This was going to be a piece of cake. From its design she could tell the system was going to be easier to crack than she'd anticipated.
Using the tech she'd gotten and improved from her grey market friends, Felicity shut down the alarm and the lock on the door clicked open. She slipped inside.
Taking a few moments to orientate herself to her surroundings, Felicity matched the lay out up with the blueprints she'd accessed from the city's archives. Isabel's office was off to the right and that was where she needed to be.
Quickly she set her watch to fifteen minutes so it would alert her when she had five minutes remaining until the alarm system reset. Flipping a switch she booted up Isabel's fancy computer and plugged in her tablet and began running her decryption program to bypass Isabel's password and other defences.
Studying the room while she waited Felicity wondered about Isabel. Could the woman really be as evil as she seemed? Felicity decided that Isabel was very strange; there were almost no personal items. Only two photographs could be seen. One was picture of a small girl and a man Felicity knew to be Oliver's father standing on what looked like a battered runway. The other one was a picture of a young boy who looked to be able five years of age.
Inexplicably drawn to it, Felicity picked it up and studied it wondering who the child was. Could Isabel have a child? She had never found any evidence in her digging into the other woman's background? Scanning the picture she looked for clues to where it had been taken, but here was nothing to say when or where the picture was taken. Her tablet pinged and her replaced the picture just where she'd found it and turned her attention back to the task at hand. But a moment later her attention was drawn back to the photo, there was something about the boy that bothered her.
A quick glance at her timer told her she still had twelve minutes and she knew what she had to do. Switching apps on her phone she snapped a photo of it. Then she wasted precious more time studying it trying to discover why it bothered her so before she got to work searching Isabel's hard drive.
After a few minutes she stopped searching and decided to copy over the whole hard drive and study back at the lair. There was just too much information to process in the small amount of time she had on hand.
She plugged in her the portable hard drive she'd brought along for just that purpose. She continued to keep an eye on the time, but she felt confident that she would have the time she needed.
A noise on the balcony drew her attention and she moved to the door and noticed a dark figure lurking outside the patio door. The glass portal made almost no noise as it opened and Felicity knew that she was in trouble because Oliver was here.
Oliver stepped into the room and knew he wasn't alone. The alarm panel beside the door showed it had been disconnected. He knew it wasn't Isabel who was here because he'd left her holding court with a large group of good looking men back at the fundraiser while he slipped out.
Drawing his bow Oliver knocked an arrow as he waited for his eyes to adjust to the dark room before him. He found his quarry waiting for him in Isabel's office bent over the computer.
A computer modified voice, much like his own, spoke. "We meet again, Arrow. Do you really want to fight or shall we agree to cooperate? Let me go through this information. We'll meet in a few days and I will give it all to you, to use as you will. I know that Isabel needs to be stopped and you're the best equipped to do it with some help from me of course."
Oliver studied the woman, she was dressed differently than the last time they'd tangled. She looked much more professional and looked much more confident in how she carried herself.
"Now why would I do that? I happen to have my own tech who can dig through it why do I need you, a middleman?" Oliver stepped closer to the desk where the hard drive was copying.
"Call me Willow." The woman smiled. "And I got here first; I deserve to benefit from the fruits of my labors. There is information on here that I need as much as you do, so I see no reason not to help each other out."
Willow's equipment pinged and it drew her attention. She deftly unplugged it and Oliver chose that moment to attack. He needed that information and Felicity could deal with anything this woman, Willow, as she called herself could dish out.
He swung his bow hoping to drive her back from the device so that he could take it himself but she seemed to anticipate his moves and blocked him.
"I don't want to hurt you, just let me go. We only have a few more minutes until the alarm resets and then we're both screwed."
He stepped back as she attacked wondering how she knew who he was and what would she do with that information? "How do you know who I am?"
From beneath her hood he could see her smile. "I know a lot of things, too bad you won't let me show you." Then she drew her short staffs and launched herself at him. He had to move quickly to block her strikes with his bow. He couldn't help but be impressed with her form and mix of styles that she blended so easily together making it hard for him to gain the advantage.
They sparred for a while neither one being able to gain the advantage until Willow's watch began beeping and she cursed.
Felicity knew time was running out and if she didn't get both of them out of the apartment before the alarm reset they would both be in big trouble. Reaching into the pocket of her jacket she pulled out a little device she and Digg had cooked up for just this reason.
Using Oliver's momentum she tossed him away from her and then activated the device. The room was illuminated by a brilliant flash of light and she ran for the desk. With sure fingers she collected all of her devices but as she reached for the hard drive an arrow sliced over her wrist.
Ignoring the pain, she pushed the device into her back and swung the pack on her back. Without looking back she headed out the door knowing Oliver would follow, but the most important thing was to get him out of the apartment. She'd deal with her get away once they were on the roof.
Oliver's vision cleared quickly and he saw the woman disappear through the doorway. Pushing himself to his feet he followed her out the door hoping to catch up with her before she got away. There was no way he was going to let her away with that information. He wasn't going to let her win, and it wasn't because she was a girl, he just didn't want to lose that information. Something told him that Isabel's endgame was hidden in that data and he didn't know this Willow, so how could he trust her to find it and share it with him and his team.
He closed the front door behind him and headed up the stairs to the roof and he wondered just what Willow's motives were and why was she after Isabel?
Exiting into the night air, Oliver was surprised to find Willow waiting for him.
"I could have been long gone but I stayed to show good faith. I meant what I said, I will share this information with you and I will honor that. Give me a few days and then I will contact you. I promise you, Oliver-" The woman stopped and swallowed. "You can trust me. I'm going to leave and you're not going to stop me."
Oliver was so surprised at the use of his name that he let her go. By the time he recovered Willow was nowhere to be seen and there was nothing left to do but head back to the lair empty handed and hope that Willow would follow through with sharing the information.
