A/N: Aha, the chapter you've all been waiting for! Without further ado…
"It's not just the black hair and blue eyes that are the same." He took a deep breath. "It's the ghost powers."
"Daniel James Fenton, what on earth are you on about?"
Jack blundered in. "What'd I miss Mads?"
"I'mahalfghosttoo." shouted Danny, before his mother could answer and he lost his resolve.
"You got a hat tattoo? Son, you know you're not allowed to get tattoos. Unless it's a tattoo of something really really cool. Like ghosts!"
Danny rolled his eyes. "No, I didn't get a tattoo dad." Danny took another deep breath and repeated slowly, "I'm half-ghost too. Like Danielle." Sam had reached over to lace her fingers in his, giving his hand a soft squeeze of encouragement. Val felt a twinge of jealousy, or perhaps regret at the sight. Quickly shaking off the feeling, she returned her attention to the conversation at hand.
"Sweetie, I don't think…"
"Mom, just trust me. And, well, please don't hate me." Squeezing his eyes shut and scrunching up his face in determination, Danny clenched his fist and triggered his transformation to phantom. His eyes remained shut even after the rings of light had finished their pass over his body, as if refusing to look could postpone the inevitable. Valerie, on the other hand, observed Mr. and Mrs. Fenton's expressions carefully, anxious to compare their reaction to her own earlier in the day. The elder Fenton's expressions transitioned in sync from confusion, to fear, to curiosity laced with a hint of trepidation.
The room remained silent, each party waiting for the other to reintroduce conversation. Sam gave Danny's hand another squeeze and whispered something in his ear. Whatever she said was enough to encourage Danny to release some of the tension he had still been holding and crack an eye open to gauge the fallout from his revelation.
Jack was, for once in his life, rendered speechless in the face of a ghost. Maddie tentatively reached out a hand toward her son. "D-Danny? I - what is - how?" Unable to form a complete sentence, she let her hand fall as her gaze flicked between Danny and Dani, her mind trying to process the impossible human to ghost transition she had just witnessed.
"It's me, mom. I promise. Just same old me." Danny gave his mother a small smile, but let it fall when she didn't respond. "I-I can change back. If that's easier, you know." Without waiting for a reply, he once more triggered the mysterious rings of light. They swept over him, leaving in their wake familiar black hair and blue eyed Danny Fenton.
The sudden return to normalcy was enough to shock Jack back to his jovial self. His face broke into a huge grin and the orange-clad man clapped Danny on the back with enough force to make him stumble a bit. "Ha! My son has ghost powers! That was so cool, you gotta tell me how you do that!"
Danny's smile returned, "you got it dad, I'll tell you all my secrets." Jack beamed. Danny's smile faltered, however, as his gaze returned to his mother.
"You're Phantom." she said. It wasn't a question.
"Yeaaah," he replied, stretching out the word, "it's not the best superhero name, but it beats Invisobill." He flashed her another grin.
There was a beat and then her face broke into a smile and she chuckled. "That's a pretty awful name, huh." And with that comment the remaining tension in the room faded away.
A/N: Yay! Danny's parents accept him! Of course, they do, I'm terrible at writing angst. Everytime I try, it ends up turning to fluff. Oh, but the story isn't over! We still have those pesky loose ends about Dani to wrap up. And some interesting stuff about Val to uncover. But I will say no more and get to writing those chapters you are so eager for! Thanks for reviewing :)
